An above-average sandwich shop in Chico. It's hidden away, behind Kathy's Sew & Vac, but worth the extra effort to check it out. Restaurant's interior has a rustic look. And it has a refrigerator section in back where you can choose from a variety of drinks. The sandwiches offered are tasty and fresh. You can customize your sandwich to your liking. They also offer soups, and, if I'm not mistaken, desserts. Service is fine - employees are ready to serve you and make your experience here worthwhile. Catering is available. I know because my work ordered from them. We got a wide array of delicious sandwiches.

We were pleasantly surprised when we came in and saw the interior. This little sandwich shop/delicatessen is tucked away in a back location and from the outside doesn't necessarily looking promising but is a delightful hidden gem. We ordered the BYOS (build your own sandwich) both roast beef, one with a sourdough roll and one with the sourdough bread. We also ordered a side of the macaroni salad and a pickles. Everything was delicious.

New York Style Pastrami (Wednesday only)

certain places for certain things... at Spiteri's Deli? everything they make is outstanding -- but what MUST you order? on Wednesday's only, the "New York" Pastrami. again, it must be Wednesday, and you must say "New York Pastrami" -- the difference between their regular daily pastrami and the special is like the difference between Walmart and Nordstrom's. okay, maybe not quite that drastic, BUT! my pro tip: get the full sized sandwich on a French roll, everything on it but hold the onions, ask for Swiss cheese. I asked for au jus because I always like eating any pastrami sandwich "beef dip style" and dunking every bite -- Spiteri's only has au jus on Thursdays and Fridays, however, I'm very happy to say that the NY Style Pastrami did not need it, it was perfect as it is, savory and juicy... what I may do next time? add some Thousand Island (or Russian) dressing, not sure which one they offer. Spiteri's continues to be an amazing Chico icon... much like The Donut Nook across the street from them, but that's a different review!

Sourdough roll with roasted turkey and swiss!

First-time trying this deli and was not disappointed. The customer service was great and the sandwich was great! Will definitely be adding this shop to the rotation. My only recommendation would be to potentially toast the bread but other than that it was good.

Wow. I read the Yelp scores and had to come visit for myself. My l had a Corner Beef and I had Turkey on a fresh Dutch Roll. Incredible wild rice soup. This place is excpetional. A hidden gem. Locally owned.

Hi, I'm back! I felt the need to update this review since my last one was over 3 years ago. Since then, I've moved out of chico, and even California and now live in NYC. (The deli capital of the USA) but still..... a sandwich from here is unmatched. It's always my first stop whenever I'm back in the area. I can't express into words how happy I am when I get the chance to come back. A sandwich from Spiteri's is what I crave the most when I'm out of state. I really do love this place so much, and I hope it's always here and never changes.

Found this place through yelp during a crazy day of wine tasting. I was able to call in an order for 5 sandwiches and when I got there 20 minutes later they had them all ready to go! Not only was it super efficient and made me life so easy trying to feed a bunch of hungry wine filled people, but the sandwiches are so good! Highly recommended. read more

After recently moving to the Chico area, my boyfriend and I are on the search to find the best deli sandwich. I was super excited to try Spiteri's based on the awesome yelp reviews however was a little disappointed. The atmosphere was great, and the service was quick and friendly. The sandwich was very bland, nothing spectacular. There was barely any veggies and the lettuce tasted like it was bagged salad. I asked for everything on my sandwich and later realized that most condiments are not included in "everything" and are ordered as ad ons.. even onions? I'm not sure if we will go back to Spiteri's again. read more

Service is great here. I would have given 4-stars but the sandwiches are not as good as Fast Eddie's and the meatball sandwich was appalling. They have crunch ice and as you ice fans out there know, crunch ice is hard to come by. read more

Best sandwhich shop in Chico! They have great selections of bread and are always very generous with the amount of meat they give you on the sandwhich(sometimes too much)! The only thing is they charge(not a lot) for random items like sprouts and onions. I always make a trip to Spiteris when back visiting Chico. read more

One of my favorite sandwich shops in Chico. The ingredients are fresh and you get your sandwich exactly how you want it. I love the soup combo in the winter. The service is organized and efficient. If you are in the mood for more than just a sandwich you can try some of their side dishes including marinated mushrooms (my favorite) as well as many pastas. I would highly recommend eating here. Due note that it can be a little busy around the peak lunch times. This is a popular high school spot and can get overwhelmed with annoying teenagers who are unattended during lunch. The definition of mediocre. Nothing special. Not bad, but not flavorful by any means. If you want a good flavorful sandwich, go to Great Harvest or Fast Eddie's instead. They do, however, have good deli salads and awesome ice. read more

Spiteri's is just a great, no-frills Deli that's off the beaten path in Chico. The fact this place is still in business when it's hidden away in the back corner of what nearly looks like an abandoned shopping center just shows what kind of local love it gets. If you're looking for a great sandwich and a not-so-boring side, this is your place. You've got tons of meat, cheese, and topping options that you just don't find at more "corporate" sandwich chains. Then you have all kinds of salad options (veggie, fruit, potato) that are unique to the Deli atmosphere too. Just stop going to Quiznos, Subway, and all those other chains and give Spiteri's a try. read more

#RANT #theLaysChipsWereFresh ABOUT SPITERI's Went to spiteri's for lunch .. I have noticed lately the bread is very different and stale. So I called the owner Nicole over and said feel this bread it's extremely stale. She said sorry you don't like it but it's fine to me. I SAID Nicole ( the NEW owner) You have to admit it's changed ! She said yes we have switched bread company's and again if you don't like it don't come her! Now I'm pissed! So I said well if you think this is good bread you should go to FAST EDDIES and get a sandwich there because that bread is fresh. So she said well then go there and eat so as she is walking away I said to the lady I was with wow she is being a bitch ! So she then smacks her ass and tells me to suck it!!!! I said who taught you how to treat customer? She walks back over and says what do you want me to say to you? I said what happened to the customers always right whether you agree or not? Second you should never tell a customer to not come back you should want us to come back and make things right! Third I said if Frank Spiteri knew how you were treating his longtime customers and running this business he wouldn't have sold you this place!!She then told me again if you don't like my food don't come back. I looked at her and I said you don't have to worry about that I will NEVER be back read more

Do you want a local, authenic experience? Spiteri's is about as "Chico" as it gets. The sandwiches are the best in town, and there are tons of sides and salads to go with them. Some of my favorites are turkey with swiss on a dutch crunch roll, and also their hot pastrami. I get both with some of their classic potato salad (their smallest size is enough for a small appetite and it's only 75 cents!) It gets CRAZY in here around lunch time, as one of the high schools is close and they swarm it. Also, it is just plain popular! Locals know to not even bother between 11:30 and 1:00 unless you call in your order in advance. I highly reccomend Spiteri's. They have a large menu, make all their sides from scratch and it's just so yummy! The ambiance is a very typical deli, with 70's era brown booths and limited seating. They package all the to go food very well, so I'd suggest a picnic as the best way to enjoy your sandwiches! read more

Best place for sandwiches period. Not to mention my favorite place IN CHICO to eat. Nobodys hot pastrami sandwiches compare to spiteris hot pistrami sandwiches. The garlic olives are amazing. And I love how they never try to screw you over and put less in the containers. They stuff those olives in for me :) also I ALWAYS get a fountain drink so I can get some of their ice. They have shaved ice and its soo good. Also the atmosphere there is really nice. I feel comfortable and everyone is busy but friendly. The outdoor spot to eat at is nice. They have vines with pretty flowers out by the benches. They always make your food fast. And the price and super reasonable. Love love love love this place. I've been going there for years since I was just a kid and I will never get tired of the cute local deli place. read more

My boyfriend and I had our first date here. They make really good sandwiches, and definitely don't skimp you on what's on them! Now, we call in sandwiches from here all the time. My only complaint is sometimes even when I call in I end up waiting in line behind people who didn't...besides that, its great! read more

I really don't know what all the fuss is about over this place. It's a very typical deli ... no reason to write home about. The place was definitely busy, but everybody on line was either overweight or a cop (I think cops eat free). I had the Garlic Rosemary Turkey on Dutch Crunch. I noticed in the deli case they were serving Foster Farms turkey. C'mon guys... spring for the Deitsel brand at least. I didn't actually try any of the side dishes, but from their appearance, they looked like standard Safeway deli salads or worse. The drink selection was typical with nothing out of the ordinary. Outdoor seating and clean, comfortable booths and tables. Cheerful people working there, so that was where the 2 stars come from. Probably much better choices in Chico. read more

Best deli in town! Great options for side dishes (not just chips or soup). They also have NY hot pastrami on occassion, which is my boyfriend's absolute favorite. They have soft bread, great staff, load up the meat, and are locally owned. Doesn't get better. read more

Service was good. The kids working were fun. I had a bagel dog, which was okay. But I honestly can't judge this place as of yet based upon a bagel dog right?! They seemed to have a lot of pasta salads and veggie salads. They have a ton of drink options! They have Sprecher which is hard to find. The sandwich was delicious, hands down. The crushed ice is one of the many things about this place that was delightful. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is it was pretty dirty. The table had sticky stuff caked on it and there were crumbs on the table I was on. Then again, it was lunch time and the hard working crew was extremely busy with the food service. Overall, it's a gem in chico and very unique. read more

Just went to Spiteri's for lunch and it reminded me I need to give them some love! This place reminds me of a place I grew up going to. Spiteri's has been around for about 25 years and it seems not much has changed since they've opened-which I love. And its always packed so if it's not broken don't fix it! You can build virtually any kind of sandwich your hear desires. Their case is full of homemade deliciousness like potato salad, macaroni salad, lasagna, stuffed mushrooms, cole slaw, meatballs and the list goes on! The red red roasted potato salad is a must! read more

Ever wonder why this place is sooooo damn busy. Go there and eat.....NOW! Thursdays you can get Ike's pulled pork with BBQ sauce and coleslaw...A MUST HAVE! I don't know if they have a certain day to bring out the NY pastrami, but if you see it on the special board, ORDER IT! Oh my %$#@ it is the best! The best part about this place is the employees. No matter how long that line gets, they are quick and efficient. read more

And if busy the little place is stacked. A couple of tables to eat. It's fine. Lots of flies all over and I'm assuming from the open side window and the door opening all day. But that kind of grossed me out. It's a local institution and worth trying but for me it's just okay.

For me, I find that a sandwich with a lot of ingredients needs to be eaten right away, otherwise the bread will become soggy from one of the sauces or juices from the vegetables, and soggy bread is a recipe for a bad sandwich. Keep that in mind when ordering a specialty sandwich or any sandwich. If you are not going to be eating it on the spot, then the quality might be different after even just a car ride home or a day at the lake etc. I recommend and look forward to more return trips.

Spiteri's is a decent sandwich place. It looks like the place hasn't changed in 20+ years. There always seems to be a line out the door, so obviously a lot of people like it enough to keep coming back - myself included. For the price, I would probably give Spiteri's 4 stars, but overall, I just don't think the sandwiches are good enough, so I give it a 3. There is nothing really to dislike, just a solid average in the sandwich category. Even with the long lines, the service is pretty quick. DISAPPOINTING - employees are not wearing masks! Spiteri's employees continue to work side-by-side with each other behind the counter - no social distancing, no covering their mouth or nose when preparing customer sandwiches, no gloves. I asked the Manager why Spiteri's was not providing or requiring employees to wear masks in order to protect both their employees and customers from COVID-19. The Manager said she was not required to period. Wrong answer and choice. I regularly chose to support local Chico businesses like Spiteri's - not anymore. read more

I came into Spiteris again the other day, and thought I should say a few things. This place has got to be one of the best sandwich shops ever. The staff is clean and efficient, pumping out sandwich after sandwich for all their loyal customers. The portions are great, I always walk away satisfied, and I know I always will.
