I had a first time appointment with Marissa for a cut and color. I wanted a blue/lavender on my ends and I have very dark brown hair. I went in with pictures and she explained everything and gave me the pricing beforehand. I decided to do a partial instead of a full, just to experiment and see how it looked. My hair came out amazing. She reassured me it would fade nicely and made it extra vibrant to last me through my vacation. I definitely will be back. It had been 6 months since I'd gotten my hair done and I suddenly realized I needed a cut and color but my normal salon couldn't fit me in for 6 weeks so I searched Yelp and found Spoleti! They were able to book me for the weekend so I made the appointment with Slava. It turned out to be his first day (though he has 13 years of experience in Russia). The woman at the front desk (Nicky I think) was super helpful and asked some questions about what I wanted and let me know that Slava's English wasn't great but she could help out. As it turns out, he seems to understand super well so no worries there at all! I let Nicky know that I was looking for warmer blonde highlights and to keep most of my length. But when I sat down with Slava, he suggested shorter layers and going lighter. I decided to trust him and let him do his thing as I'm not super picky as long my hair is professional and works with how I normally style it. I ended up with a much cooler and lighter blonde than I expected but it really looks great and the cut is amazing! His process was so incredibly thorough. He washed my hair and did the initial cut. Then he gave me a blowout and finished the cut. Then he did the highlights and toner and then another blowout. He explained that he likes to see the cut before he applies color so he knows exactly where to place highlights and everything blends well. This totally makes sense but adds time to the process which is why I'd guess many stylists highlight and the cut. He clearly knows what he's doing and treats hair like art. So if you're unsure about what you want, just let him have at it! Otherwise, bring pictures or be super explicit about what you're looking for. Oh, and the salon is super sleek, they have mimosas and waters with cucumber/fruit, etc., and the sinks were more comfortable and more. I did spend a bit more than I normally do but I was also there for over 4 hours and really think the precision was worth it. I'll be back! read more

Kate fixed my bad experience with coloring! She used a technique (high lift?) that gave me a beautiful and subtle balayage/highlight mix. Best part was my hair didn't have to be covered in toner so it didn't fade! She made my hair look better than the pictures I showed her and did it in a way that grew out beautifully. No harsh lines at the roots or anything. She obviously knows her stuff, is super friendly, and will make awesome recommendations for color care and style. Plus the price was great! Go see her for your hair coloring needs. I'll be back next time I need any coloring done! read more

I finally thought I found my hair stylist soulmate before my real soulmate moved me to California. Heartbreaking to say the least! Kate is, hands down, the best hairdresser I have ever trusted with my locks. I moved to Austin in 2013, found her on Yelp (thanks, Yelp!) and I have never looked back. Kate is a perfectionist with both color and cut--she will not rest until she is 100% certain your hair is the best it can be. She also gives great advice specific to your hair type--aka she's talked me off that "SHOULD I GET BANGS" cliff that I find myself on the edge of every so often. Also, importantly, Kate is a real funny gal and a pleasure to spend a good chunk of time with every 6-8 weeks. read more

I've been here twice for haircuts and I've been very happy both times! I would definitely recommend this salon. I haven't had any issues with making an appointment and they seemed to be able to accommodate me without a problem. I usually hate everything for a few days after I get a haircut. I hate the cut, the styling, the smell of products....but this is the first place where I've looked in the mirror after the cut and dry and didn't have to lie through my teeth just so I can gtfo of there. She is spectacular at taking my rambling, 20 picture, abstract description of the look I'm going for and turning it into EXACTLY what I'm envisioning. She's also a healthy hair advocate and has helped me resuscitate my sad lifeless blonde into a shimmering, dimensional color that I get frequent compliments on. She's managed to strike a perfect balance between my high maintenance desires and low maintenance reality while also evening out a years old shag/mullet I could never seem to shake. She is a magician. She even removed an impulsive swathe of fuchsia from my hair with nary a trace left. HOW?! I will truly miss my appointments with Kate and I didn't even mind the drive from Northwest Austin to South Lamar - which is really saying something. Oh my gosh, I could go on and on about how wonderful this place is. I got my hair totally botched at a different salon, (it turned out a totally purple red when I just wanted to be closer to my natural ginger red hair. Pics below.) I came here again just yesterday to get my hair done, this time an overall color! I was seen by Jace, and he speaks hair! He understood what I was saying and delivered a good color and a cut that works well for me! The only reason that I'm not giving it 5 stars again is because I found that after I left the salon I found some of the leftover red hair dye on my head (not my hair) and I had to go in and get it out with a washcloth, but other than that I had a good experience! read more
