If any Minneapolis restaurants engage in the Michelin star system, I think this establishment would be one of the first, if not the first, to earn at least one star. Not saying I like that system, but I am just tryinh to magnify the fact that Spoon and Stable is a comprehensively amazing establishment. I have spent two birthdays within the past 3 years here and I have to conclude that they were both worth it in terms of my dinner experience. Amazing. Some of the photos I have chosen to include contain items that no longer exist, but I did re-order some of the dishes that were still there, namely the Spaghetti Nero, the Bison Tartare, and the Honey & Cream Cake. For appetizers, the kanpachi crudo perfectly allowed me to take one bite with everything included (fish, ponzu, peach, and lemon balm) to have a completely new flavor profile experience. I have not had the same experience with crudo in general yet in other places, so yeah, this was amazing. The bison tartare was amazing as well because the aïoli and radish really created a contrast from the raw beef flavor that just happened to work. Every pasta was a hit! I have had the spaghetti nero twice and I thought both times the dish was perfect because nothing was overpowering! It was very easy to make the sauce very sour or dominate the flavor but it wasn't the case. Including octopus, prawn, and mussels worked very well, too, because some of the small bits were just enough to provide the squid ink pasta with a flavor and texture balance. For the pansotti, I really enjoyed the black garlic soubise on the outside and the juxtaposition its flavor created with what was inside the pasta: ossau-iraty cheese. Two completely different flavors that worked beautifully. The raviolo was great as well, with all flavors that managed to mesh together. The mushroom was very pronounced once taking a bite into those bits. It was slightly too oily, maybe due to the abundance of butter, but great regardless. I also ordered the rainbow trout which was a new experience but I ended up concluding that it was a dish that I could personally try to replicate. The coriander flavor was very strong and that wasn't something that everyone could get used to. I enjoyed it overall, especially with the crust perfectly cooked to crisp and flavorful, but I did have to dip the fish into the cucumber broth for even more flavor beyond the coriander-infused crust. The creamy spinach having cheese curds on top was a pleasant surprise and wow it worked very well! Eating some spinach with the cheese curds really just created this new flavor that worked like charm. Dessert was simply out of this world. Honey & cream cake is a must and it looks like they are using red currants now instead of blackberries, which is cool! But man, those tiny pieces of cookies they included... I don't know what they were made out of, but they were the best I have ever had in my life. Even though I had only one piece of it, that piece really astonished me. The pistachio pudding waa aesthetically very pleasing and tasted like nothing else I have ever tasted. The raspberry granita and yogurt dip n' dots both provided taste and texture, making the whole dessert an entity that one has to enjoy by including a little bit of everything on a spoon. The peaches and cream was just so interesting in terms of flavor, which I deduced it was due to the anise hyssop, but it was very evident. The thinly sliced peaches contained that flavor as well, so the contrast between that heavily emphasized taste and the cream taste was so huge that I ended up treating this peaches and cream dessert as its own unique entity among all desserts of similar types I have had. Uniqueness is the key. Other than food, the atmosphere was lovely. We could visibly see the room with a ladder and lots of types of alcohol. The chairs and couches were clean and comfortable, and my partner and I could visibly see the chefs giving their best shots. Perfect place for a date. I would recommend reserving their dinner service a long time in advance, so if you intend to come here, please ensure you check as early as possible!! read more

You can always count on having the best crêpe cake for brunch at Spoon and Stable! It's been a few good years since my last visit (and review). While I am thankful that the quality and service has not diminished over the years since my last visit and I can always count on having the best crepé cake that is on par with renowned "Lady M", the menu options did not make me feel like there was anything more interesting that would make me feel like I want to come back soon. I visited more recently for brunch and will focus my review on that occasion. Although a rainy Sunday morning, it was as if the weather outside had no influence on the people within. Even as clouds moved overhead, the skylight provided natural rays of mid-morning light. Seated in a comfy corner booth, we were free to watch other diners while glimpsing the staff hard at work in the open concept kitchen. I ordered the spinach & Gruyère quiche which had a decadent, thick crust and creamy, soft eggs punctuated by texture from the spinach and mild, nutty notes from the cheese. My friends were also pleased with their choices (soft shell crab sandwiches and a pasta dish). We of course finished with the infamous vanilla crêpe cake and a pistachio filled croissant. Highly recommend for the out of town guest, the special occasion, or the rainy Sunday morning where the outdoor conditions have no bearing on the bright and open interior of Spoon and Stable and its guests. read more

Drinks and dinner at Spoon and Stable. It has been a while since I was able to make it out here again but it did not disappoint. From the fantastic wine selection to its masterfully crafted cocktails, there is always something for everyone. The Bison Tartare was a treat and was not tuff as you would envision bison to be. The Waygu Flat Iron was divine and the squash, leeks, and corn complimented each other well. The Peaches and Cream were amazing and you got the right amount of sweet and fruity flavors. All of the food was beautifully plated and the service was amazing. Trey at the bar was very friendly, helpful, and was very prompt with everything. Allyssia was an amazing server at the table. She knows the menu well and provided great recommendations. We were surprised to learn that she has not been there long. Spoon and Stable is lucky to have such talent! Spoon and Stable give a very upscale and trendy vibe. It has very high ceilings and feels open. You can also watch the chef prepare food in a chef's seating area. Helpful comments: -the bar has gorgeous seating for 2-3 at little tables with great staff -the house margarita was nothing to write home about. Good, not great. - nice wine list by the glass - arrancini good bar food. 4/5 stars due to the cost and how hard it is to get in! We booked a reservation over 3 weeks out and still only got an 8PM option. We got seated right away in the main dining area. Very very cute atmosphere and design! We started with a side as an app - the creamed spinach with cheese curds. Wow! You don't even need the cheese curds the spinach is amazing, 5/5. We also received complimentary sourdough bread and butter, one piece each that looks freshly baked on site. Super yummy! For dinner we split the Wagyu Denver steak, ravioli (not pictured) and cacio e Pepe with the cauliflower on the side. The steak was really good and perfectly done! We weren't a huge fan of the ravioli, interesting mix of flavor and small portion. The cacio was awesome, probably my favorite! I personally didn't love the cauliflower side but my friend did. Didn't have a ton of flavor to me, was just okay. We ended with a dessert that I can't remember the name of and didn't picture. It was their top seller but just thought it was okay. The other items we had for dinner were more standout to me but I'm not a huge dessert person. Overall the meal was really good, food came out fast, and service was on top of it. I've been here twice now and can officially say that this is one of my favorite restaurants ever. There's a reason why reservations are hard to come by and the reviews are nearly perfect-- Gavin and his team have something truly special here. My recommendations: the side of Brussel sprouts ordered as an appetizer, the pork chop was out of this world, and the ganache tart dessert. I've had their cab sauv and their Sangiovese--both are excellent. And always an after dinner decaf cappuccino. The service has been consistently exceptional. Perfect evening. Highly recommend reservations - and they aren't the easiest to come by for a reason. One of the best dining experiences in the TC. We found street parking within a block but valet is reasonable at a mere $7. We were early for our reservation and they were able to seat us immediately! Our server was attentive - couldn't ask for any better service. The food! Nothing short of amazing! At the beginning of our meal, the server had asked if we were celebrating anything. I causally mentioned it was my first day in a new role at work. She surprised me with some celebratory ice cream topped with a candle and cotton candy. Such a nice touch. I honestly had such high expectations for this place that I thought that I would be disappointed but was pleasantly surprised by the food service and ambiance here. Such a beautiful building and set up. This is a great place for special occasions or even just a meal that you'd like to treat yourself with. The staff was super welcoming and helpful in helping us pick our items and they were really accommodating with the fact that we wanted to share all dishes (something that has sometimes been controversial at nicer restaurants). By far our surprise Favorite dishes was the bison tartar and wagyu steak, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We were able to find street parking nearby but it was kind of pricey. Silver lining is that you're right by the river and can go for a stroll after the meal. read more

I admit to being a bit picky but have found myself really liking this place out of the restaurants/bars I've tried in Minneapolis so far. Got what we needed out of the food and drink we tried. We may have gotten lucky with finding seats at the bar without reservations on a Wednesday night around 7pm. The location has nice clean aesthetics to it. The bartenders we had were all very friendly too. I really like how they have a few zero proof / mocktail options, perfect for lightweights like me. Went here for the first time and it was really good. The restaurant is located across from Porzana and there is street parking around the building. The restaurant is very modern and nice. I ordered the burger and fries while my girlfriend got the meatballs. We sat at the bar but the tables look very comfortable and the service was great. The food and atmosphere was great but I wasn't too big a fan of the service. We got the lamb two ways and spaghetti nero. The lamb was cooked great and was very flavorful. The spaghetti nero was the real star of the show. This dish was so good that I couldn't get enough of it. A North Loop staple. We snagged a Friday reservation here to check out the spring menu. Everything we tried was light and delicate and perfect for the changing weather! The dining room is always packed so make sure you jump on the reservations early! As always, we had to order The Daily from the bar which is a rotating cocktail prepared by the bar team each day. This place has been on my radar since I saw it on one of Andrew Zimmern's shows. I was really happy I got back to Minneapolis in June but was only there for one night and arrived late. I was thankful they even let me sit at the bar to have a meal so close to closing time that I kind of rushed the visit. For an appetizer they had lamb meatballs with non-bread which was fabulous. For my main I did the Cacio e Pepe Pasta which was delicious but I really regretted not getting the dry aged duck when our bartender was talking to us about it. For dessert my friend and I shared a strawberry honey cake which was the perfect ending. I hope at some point I get back to the city to try some more of this menu because it looked spectacular. This was our first time at Spoon and Stable and it was a memorable one! We made reservations a few weeks prior to have early dinner on a Wednesday for my other half's birthday (book in advance!). I know why... this place spoiled us! Not only the food, but the service! S&S was so busy from open until we left... and that was a non peak night. They make you feel special here... we informed them we were celebrating a birthday... Don't worry... they DON'T sing!! They actually brought out some cotton candy with the check. What a cute and quirky touch! When we go out... we go out! There were too many items on the menu that intrigued us... so why not try them all?!? Starter: They came out with some fresh whole wheat style sourdough bread. We also ordered the special... which was cured Spanish Mackerel with citrus cucumber broth. This was a colorful and refreshing dish. I am not a huge cured fish fan.. it was a little fishy but it had nice crunch and flavor. Pastas: We couldn't pick between the two... so we ordered both! It was amazing that they offer a smaller size... we would have eaten it all if not! Haha Spaghetti Nero and Saffron Gigli. Spaghetti Nero was a squid ink style pasta with red sauce and an assortment of seafood. The depth of flavors in that was unbelievable... it had an umami quality and we were trying to figure out what it was... so good! Saffron Gigli had king crab and uni cream. Yumm! This had rich flavor without being over the top. The noodles weren't quite al dente but the flavor made up for this. Did I mention... we are adventurous and enjoy trying any new kinds of seafood?? Well... we ordered the Sturgeon... it was a fun one to try, but I am glad it wasn't my only entree. The texture of this fish seemed similar to fresh mozzarella. I wish it had more of a crispy outer edge. The sauce tasted like Marsala and am unsure of how much I care for that flavor with the sturgeon. I wouldn't order this again, but glad we tried it and appreciate the use of this neglected fish. Sides- Get the creamy spinach with the cheese curds! This was one we saw recommended on Yelp and so glad we got! What a combo! Crave worthy! Hahah not kidding. Cocktails- Old fashioned with roasted pineapple ... tasty and a fun take on the classic cocktail. Mai Tai- Tasty! Not as sweet as we were expecting. Loved the crushed ice with this cocktail. Lion's Tale - our favorite! These went down really easy! Plus the color was so pretty. Dessert- Honey & cream cake. This was another Yelp recommendation and glad we had it. It was sweet, but not too sweet. The added meringue and poached fruit elevated it. Oh yeah.. we also got some other goodies with the tab. Overall this experience was epic! The staff made sure we had everything we needed and also cleaned and cleared the table between courses. This attention to detail was so perfect. We appreciate all the hardworking staff! There is a large 21% tax for employee wellness added fee was definitely higher than most places. We tipped additional! Thanks for everything. read more

This was very hard to give it 4 stars- let me explain. Top notch ambience with an open kitchen view is so fun. Bakery items were delicious and were the highlight of our meal. My steak and eggs were good but did not blow me away. The steak had been sitting and was not "hot off the grill" when I received it. Our server was very sweet but was new and did not know the service "rhythm" that the rest of the staff had. Overall, I would like to go back for dinner and see if this stands up to the tall order of being named one of the best in town. read more

I can only speak to the cocktails, but if you are coming to drink, I would be surprised if there are even a few places that make a better cocktail than the ones at Spoon and Stable. I don't have any issues with the drinks. However, there's a required tip here that I believe was 22% of my final bill. The idea that this is required led to an interesting conversation with the management at S&S; I'm still debating where I land on the idea that I basically am being told that the service is exceptional, when the definition of tipping is subjective. Spoon and Stable is an old favorite of ours. We had some family join us for dinner and we had a great experience! The restaurant ambiance is open and light and friendly and not overly crowded. Our server was friendly and extremely helpful with suggestions. We started our dinner with a bottle of wine - a granache mix that was a steal for $45. We split the salmon carpaccio as an introduction and it was one of the best bites of the night. It was light, citrusy, and the spring flavors were very welcome. We also shared a large plate of the sourdough bigoli which seemed like a play on a carbonara. We wish we would have gotten just a small serving and tried another pasta - the bigoli was a bit salty and while I liked the thick noodles, others thought they were too much. For entrees, I had the scallops with spinach risotto and my husband had the halibut. The scallops were perfectly cooked with a great sear. The spinach risotto was a bit heavy for a spring dish, but overall it was a great plate of food. The halibut was a slam dunk - the light flavors were perfect for spring, the fish was perfectly cooked, and a dish I would highly recommend.
