Since my gf and I were visiting Minneapolis for a short time we decided to have one nice meal before we leave. I yelped around and came across a few I wanted but narrowed it down to Spoon and Stable. And it was near out hotel. I immediately loved the atmosphere, layout and design. It reminded me a lot of LA restaurants. Very romantic and open space, with an open kitchen as well. Chic and modern, but also had a cozy and warm feeling to it. Reservation was all closed but luckily when we got there, there were a few bar tables that were available.
The menu has some great appetizers and entrees to choose from. I love that the pasta dishes comes in 2 prices, for smaller dish and entree size. We just went all out and got a little of everything. Our waiter came with complimentary bread and butter. What attracted to me about this place at first was the whipped butter placed on a small marbled plate. The bread comes in 2 and it was fresh and warm. The bread was sourdough, and you can really taste the subtle sourness from the bread. The butter was nicely whipped, but I think some sea salt on the butter or bread would have been perfect.
_Scallop Crudo ($12) Kumquat, black lime, celery hearts. This was a very tiny portion. The scallop was very fresh but was not a fan of the sauce. I think it was some carrot juice that was overwhelming and took away from the scallop as well as the sharp flavor from the celery hearts.
_Winter Green Salad ($14) Haralson apples, stracciatella, black walnut, banyuls vinaigrette. A great salad, simple but flavorful. I love stracciatella, similar to burrata texture so this was a win. The dressing was light and the perfect amount, without outdoing the salad itself. Great textures and flavors, a must.
_Seared Foie Gras ($22) Carrot sourdough, baby carrots, elderberries, horseradish. I'm not huge on foie gras so this is based on personal preference. My gf got this and loved it. I will say the flavors were great and bold. The bread was amazing, and whatever sauce was on top or around it had depth and was perfect with the foie.
_Spaghetti Nero ($18/$25) Prawns, mussels, octopus, fra diavolo, fines herbes. I got the small size on this, and it was still pretty a pretty good portion. The seafood were all fresh and tasty. Good amount of seafood to pasta ratio. The sauce was great, a very warming tomato sauce. A bit sweet and acidic, you get the flavors from the seafood. I was not a huge fan of the pasta itself. It was good, but maybe too al dente or not the right pasta. This is a good dish, but there are so many in LA just like this, I can't say it was amazing, but a flavorful seafood pasta dish.
_Alaskan Black Cod ($30) Roasted cauliflower, polenta, aji amarillo, persimmon. The cod was perfectly cooked and butter. The fish itself did not have much flavor, it was very subtle so if you get any meat dish, I'd eat this first, otherwise it will taste too bland. I love polenta, so this was a great pair with the fish. The roasted cauliflower added nice texture and the amarillo on top added flavor and freshness to the fish.
_Tamarind Glazed Pork Chop ($30) Spicy carrot-cucumber pickle, bok choy, tatsoi, natural jus. I'm not a huge fan of pork chops, so take this with a grain of rice. The pork chops were cooked well and pink in the middle, but the cut was super thick and heavy for my liking. One part of the pork that had the bone was rare, more like raw so my gf could not eat it, even though that was her favorite part. My gf enjoyed the dish so If you like pork chop, you will probably enjoy this.
Nothing on the dessert menu intrigued us so we skipped this. Luckily towards the end we got complimentary desserts. A few bite sized cookies and macarons, so that was a nice touch to the end. Complimentary bread/butter and dessert with good service, it's a yes in my book! read more
