I went to Spoons for the first time on the weekend and I'm a fan. The wait time was long but that is understandable for a Sunday brunch. I ordered Tom's Benny and a caesar. The food was tasty and the caesar was average. It was very noise which made having a conversation kind of difficult. The decor was hipster/nerdy which was cool but seemed a little over done. It is the kind of diner food and ambiance you'd imagine a diner to be in your best road trip dreams; so much so that it is fucking mind magic. Very disappointed in the restaurant and the food. Got the Breakfast poutine. When it came out I couldn't make out what one of the ingredients was supposed to be. It turned out to be scrambled eggs. Found that everything tasted like days old leftovers. The gravy was so spicy, I had to keep drinking to cool down my throat. The only edible thing really was the toast, which was cold. SO YUM! If you're looking for classic diner food in Vic this is the best you can get! I love coming here, they never disappoint. Their 90s trivial pursuit cards are fun, as well as their amalgamation of different quirky mugs. 10/10 would recommend, I always suggest coming here for brunch to my friends. Food was ok, typical greasy, diner food. Our male server was super nice, he served us quickly with a smile. My only issue was a femal server, who wasn't watching where she was going, she spilled water all down my left side, arm, side and shoe got soaked. When I mentioned to her she could have apologized, she was rude and said it was only water then demanded to see the spillage. I'd already found napkins since she didn't offer me any. 3.5 STARS. Connected to the Super 8 Motel, Spoons Diner is a retro style eatery that offers somewhat larger portions in a diner atmosphere. The food is good to very good, the portions are larger and the service is cheerful and understaffed which translates into longer waits and food that might not be as hot as you would like. I hade an omlette that was good, larger and generally fresh but definitely not hot. My friend had one of those breakfast basics that turned out to be half a plate of rather dark potatoes, two eggs and some toast - it didn't look all that good. I doubt my friend will order that one again. So there you have it. Good, some parts great and they try. I don't think I would go out of my way to find this place. We come to this place for breakfast a few times a month. We almost never have to wait and they give the most friendly service. Love all the Benny's and the coffee is nice and strong. They also have a really fun meal called the Prusa. It's chef's choice and they let you flip a coin to pay for it or not! I haven't eaten a bad one yet! I have a not-so-secret love affair with Spoons. I bring every friend, family member and coworker that comes to Victoria here. I have been to dozens of breaky places in town, most very good, but Spoons is the BEST! The service is so fantastic - everyone is always so friendly and happy, and our usual server Tania is the funniest most attentive server I have ever had (love her as much as the food!). The food portions are gigantic - enough leftovers to feed 2 people (those that don't want left overs, request a half portion). All of the bennys are to die for - my fav: The Idol, but with feta cheese instead of brie - I dare you not to groan in pleasure every bite. They have a rewards card - buy 10 breakfasts get 1 free. I have eaten here enough to get 4 free breakfasts, so I hope my word is legit! read more

Visited Spoons on a recommend. This quaint little cafe was a convenient location with ample parking in the Super 8 motel on Douglas Street. We were warmly greeted and provided with our beverage of choice for breakfast - coffee - which was very good. I ordered the basic egg benny and hubby had 3 eggs with ham & toast. It was about 20 minutes before our food arrived. The hash potato chunks appeared over cooked but were soft inside and tasty. Hubby ordered his eggs sunny & runny. They arrived soft on top but solid so this was disappointing. Grill was obviously too hot as the eggs were "lacy" and over cooked. My benny was very good with soft yolks. Service was very good altho a bit slow, friendly staff. Great variety on the menu. Will return to try another breakfast based on the menu. read more

I think the left out the word "Greasy" in front of their restaurant's name because after eating there my spoon was a greasy mess all evening. Where do I start; the hashbrowns were super crunchy and tasted like they had been through the deep fryer a couple times. The ham was soggy and soaked, the sausages were greasy and fell apart, and the bacon was a soppy slimey consistency that was worm like. My over easy eggs were actually cooked quite well but that being said my partners scrambled eggs had egg shell bits in them. Oh I almost forgot their toaster seemed to work well.. So they got that going for them at least. All in all id give them a "I'd rather choke down Denny's" out of 10. Disappointing. Shame on you. read more
