PIAS is generally known throughout the area as being a solid place to come for your sports and fitness needs. One of the biggest differences between here and other sports stores, is that they feature new and used items! This is a great way to shop on a budget if you're looking to save some money, or buying for multiple kids / sports. They have gear and equipment for all major sports. For example, if you're looking for baseball equipment, they have several racks of baseball bats, plus baseball gloves, balls, helmets, catcher's gear, and even raglan style baseball tees and socks in many colors to accommodate whatever team your kid gets drafted to. They of course have other sports stuff for basketball, soccer, football, pickleball, and even lots of outdoor games for parties, picnics, and beach outings! There's also an entire downstairs basement type area that has gym / workout equipment . Everything from weights and dumbbell sets, to punching bags, to treadmills and ellipticals. The staircase is a little small, so be careful when going up or down. It had been a long time since I'd stepped into PIAS, so we thought it would be fun to stroll through on a recent trip to have breakfast nearby. The staff we all saw were younger looking dudes, but friendly and attentive. Somebody approached us when we were wandering downstairs to ask if we needed any help, and to not hesitate to ask if we did. It was fun to walk around and see all the different sports equipment and games they had. The space is relatively small, but is PACKED with stuff. Everything from their tchotchkes to their surf and SUP boards are first rate. The artisanship is over the top. They don't merely talk sustainability, they practice it as fully as possible. They use recycled wood from fence posts, wine fermenters and water tanks just to name a few. Oh, and wood recovered from the original 1937 77' Western Flyer made famous by John Steinbeck and Doc Ricketts in Steinbeck's book "Journals From the Sea of Cortez" published in 1951. In the various pieces of artwork, yes it's artwork, you may even find slices of golf balls recovered from slices and hooks into the ocean at Pebble Beach. The epoxy covering these beauties is tree sap based by Entropy Resins. They also use a soy based resin by Ecopoxy. OK, I told you so. Plus, you gotta catch the nifty RC dune buggy with headlights, a key nd a driver that turns its head and waves. And has its own surfboard, and fly rod. Fly rod!
