He was super knowledgeable with the in store selection as well as areas to look for. He was so patient and spent about an hour with me finding the exact fit and allowing me to really feel the boot out and making small tweaks to ensure the best fit. He did mention that Proctor does allow you to bring back boots for refitting within the first year. While I hope I won't need to come back for adjustments, makes me more confident in my purchase. I have nothing but great things to say about Fire on the Mountain. A year ago, I went into the shop…read morelooking for skis, knowing nothing about what I should be looking for. I was new to skiing, so I just wanted to get some gear where I could continue to build my confidence on the slopes. One of the employees asked me all of the right questions without being judgmental or condescending. He asked me what my skill level was, the price I would like to overall pay, etc. With that, he brought out some boots and they fit perfectly and comfortably. He then showed me some skis that would be good for my height...and with that I left only paying $800 for boots, skis and bindings. Each step of the way, the employee kept making it clear that he wasn't intending to sell me anything, and that he would understand if I wanted to shop around elsewhere. Again, this set me at ease knowing that he was providing me with non-pressured service. Since then, I have returned to Fire on the Mountain to service my skis regularly. Recently, I brought my skis to get serviced, and I asked them about my boot, which had a buckle that was bending. They quickly offered to fix it, and when I went to pick it up, they completely fixed the boot and added a double screw to ensure that it was fastened in. As previously stated, I have nothing but great things to say. If you are looking for ski or snowboard gear in a nonintrusive environment, I highly recommend Fire on the Mountain! The young man helping us out was very knowledgeable, and super helpful. He helped us find an affordable pair of used boots that were in great shape, and worked with us to pick out a helmet and goggles. The whole time he shared a ton of information drawing on his own experience. We were lucky that we walked in when it was quiet, and he was able to devote a big chunk of time and attention to us. By the time we were finished the place felt packed and the staff was bouncing around, but still seemed to try and offer a great experience to all of their customers. I will definitely go back when we need more gear.

We were greeted instantly by Brian, who was more than helpful during our whole visit. I explained to him we were new to the sport and did not want/need the most expensive equipment. He hooked it up with a lot of discounts (since we were buying in bulk) and made sure we took a look at last season's gear to save money. I received some of the best service of my short 28 year old life...I'd gladly go back anytime, although I hope I don't need to...Brian even offered to help with our bindings as well. Have I mentioned how cool the shop is? Highly recommend - would not go anywhere else for gear or snowboard insight.

This year i wanted to get my board tuned up there and shop in their store as a Thank you. I was surprised the outdoor sports store had no snowboards to look over for purchase. I was debating on getting a new board instead of tuning up my board from last year. Since there were no boards to purchase i brought my board inside from my truck. Nice kid named Owen looked over my board & brought it to his manager to inspect. They concluded the tuneup required extra work bringing the job to 65$. I left my board and took my receipt. Fast forward a week and i get a call telling me the price is now 95$. The employee on the phone referred to Owen as just a high school kid who created the order and gave me a receipt. I explained i watched Owen bring my board to his superior and they agreed 65$. I explained my dissatisfaction over the phone and the employee said he'll look into what he can do. Told him 95$ is 20% of a brand new board & i wih i could look over new snowboards if it wss going to cost 95$. He said he had no idea when snowboards were going to be in stock. Instead of waiting for the possibility of a call back i instead drove to the store and picked up my snowboard. While there i noticed more employees at s&w working than I've ever seen at one time. That told me how much of a priority my situation was to them as a company. Not only that but I saw an employee setting snowboards out for sale and the employee on the phone never mentioned that. I would only recommend them as an absolute last resort. I have so many good reviews for businesses on here, and very few negative reviews. I would overlook a small price adjustment if this company didnt treat me like dirt last year and make me run in circles before the owner stepped in and fixed all issues. The owner cares about this business but his employees lack of care is astounding. Owen seems honest but the rest of the employees ive encountered are seedy. Buyer Beware!

However, the help I did receive was superb. Pam helped me select the right footbeds for my ski boots and made sure they felt good and fit right. A few years back, I was finally able to buy a good quality ski set up, and purchased some not…read moreinexpensive boots from a retailer in Nashua. A teenager helped me, and I didn't really know what I needed, so I got some boots. I thought they were fine, but eventually I was getting numb spots, and cramping. At the end of last season, I went to Skinners, and they measured me and checked out my boots, and they were too big. It was the end of the year, so I'd hoped to get a good price on boots that would work. I wish I remembered his name, but the man helping me spent HOURS working through boots and patiently working the process. In the end, we found a boot that seemed to be great, and I picked them up. After 4-5 days of break-in, I was skiing them every weekend, and now, halfway through the season, I realized I've had no cramps, no sore spots, no random numbness in the boots. They're perfect. I'm worried that as we move forward, shops like this, with real honest-to-god earned expertise, and taking the time to do it right, will not be around much. It's already hard to find in New Hampshire. Get to Skinner's. Support them. You will get the right equipment for your need and that makes everything better.
