Bone-in Croaker, Jumbo Shrimp, and Oysters - all fried!
    Fred B.

I didn't realize that I'd not written a review of this fine seafood spot for quite a while now. This is the premier fried seafood spot in triad area in my opinion, stretching from Mebane to Mocksville, from the Virginia line in the north to at least Salisbury in the south. I stop in here for lunch at least twice a month. This is a family operation that began in 2006 when George Paloumbas remodeled a John Deere dealership building, turning it into a casual seafood restaurant, that at the time was in the middle of nowhere. Despite the location, the restaurant prospered, attracting folks from Burlington to Mocksville, and north to the Virginia line, south to Salisbury! Jimmy Shipman, the current general manage, had been a customer for a number of years, often dining with his grandmother. He started busing tables there about 2015, married George Paloumbas' daughter, Maria, in 2019, and was made general manager in 2020. He guided the restaurant through the Covid time frame by concentrating on providing efficient take out orders. He had to hire someone to direct the traffic, it was so popular. This is certainly a family and community operation - a number of the employees have Been there for years, and much that the restaurant sells is sourced in the region. Seafood from Todd's Seafood in Thomasville, and deserts from Cake & All Things Yummy. I almost always get fried seafood, although the Broiled Captain's Platter is very nice as well. My favorite item is the bone-in croaker!

Let's talk about the service in this place because they've moved extremely fast. The place was so busy and they move like it was nothing they were all working together to get people in and tables clean for the next party. The food you can get fried or boiled. They have a decent selections of seafood.

If you're looking for fried fish, this is where to come! I had the create your own small with 2 fish choices. I chose grouper (1 solid sized piece with the small) and 6 large shrimp. Both were delicious!!! It was served with a small thing of slaw, hushpuppies and fries (or can choose baked potato). I was extremely hungry and had a little left after eating all in could. The sweet tea was delicious! I was definitely order all this again. Deserts sounded great but didn't try any. Servers were hospitable. The vibe was a southern/beachy vibe. The only thing is that there isn't much handicap parking close to the building.

We left zero crumbs at the seafood shack. I brought my mother here and she's super picky about her seafood...she loved it. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious (not overly salty). Great prices for a good amount of food. Very clean...didn't even smell fishy. Our waitress was patient and cheerful. Already recommended to several friends. Definitely will return.

You walk in and immediately greeted with friendly faces and such amazing aromas. You could tell it was a popular place and the best place to be on a Sunday. I had the two combination platter with popcorn shrimp and a spicy crab cake and everything was so delicious and cooked perfectly. It's definitely a lot bigger on the inside than it looks from outside and so perfectly decorated. It's definitely on my list to come back to!

Hadn't been here in years. It has the typical nautical decor, what you would expect. We gave it a try on a Saturday evening. We got there about 5:00 and had a 10 minute wait. When we left there was a crowd waiting with people outside too. Our sever was very attentive. Took our order and kept the drinks full. Overall it was not bad, but I'm not a big fried seafood fan. The best items were the fried Flounder, salt and pepper catfish, and jumbo shrimp. The oysters were mostly bread as were the popcorn shrimp. The scallops were not that great either. One of the better items was the tossed salad. You can get it for an up charge. It was good, crisp and cold. I liked the blue cheese dressing. Stay with their better items and you should be fine.

    Oysters on the half shell

Such cute decor and "fish"art. Bright, colorful and crowded. Even at 3pm I had a short wait. Oysters were yummy and came out quick. You get a lot of food for the money and the variety of non-seafood on the menu makes it a great place for anyone. Service was also exceptional. I was not thrilled with the lack of Splenda.. they had plenty of the "pink" sweetener though. Also, I noticed that the menus were not wiped down between customers which I find unhealthy. Otherwise the place is great! I'm coming back. On the weekends the oysters are 1$ ea

Everyone loves the seafood shack! If you don't believe me just show up on a Sunday after church or anytime for that matter. The service is great. The food is delicious and you always have enough for another meal The prices are very reasonable also. I noticed they have made some changes and I like them so far. The hush puppies changed and for the better if you ask me. Here are some tips. Go early, be patient and go hungry. Hope you like it as much as I do!

    6oz. Sirloin and Popcorn Shrimp
    Jessie D.

Walkertown Seafood Shack has always been a 10/10 for us! I typically go for the popcorn shrimp and fries, but opted for the 6oz. Sirloin and Popcorn shrimp with a baked potato tonight and I ate every bite! It was so yummy! The steak was well-done like I ordered, without being tough and chewy. It was perfect! Although the waiting area was full upon arrival, we were seated rather quickly and a waitress was at our table immediately! We started with an appetizer of buffalo shrimp that were piping hot, crispy, and covered in sauce without being soggy. The whole meal was great! The atmosphere of this place is fun. It's colorful and has neat decorations all throughout the restaurant. Highly recommend anyone nearby to give them a try!

One of the three standing and texting while people wait and food gets cold.

All the fish was cold and literally had no taste. The fries with fish and chips were not cooked fully. We ordered fried pickles and had to wait 10 minutes to get ranch dip, then when dinner arrived we wanted another 10 minutes for butter for the baked potato that was with my wife's fish, which also had no flavor. The food runner never even bothered to ask if we needed anything else, hence the wait for condiments. Sitting 10 feet away from one of the stations you'd think you could get someone's attention and some assistance but the girls were too busy on their phones texting.

Seafood here is always fresh and delicious. Various seafood options available including Crab legs and Oysters on half shell. Two people with drinks and an appetizer for around 48$. Not sure where you can go and get the same caliber& amount of food For the price .. They have nightly specials , and Soups are very good too!

Friend told me about this place in Walkertown. Short drive from Winston. We had a 20 minute wait on a Sunday. Expect it to be crowded but worth the wait. If you love seafood this is your fix! Service quick and happy to answer your questions. I liked the varied artwork on the wall. Excellent menu selections. They have a kids menu.

Quick and friendly service. Had a lot on the menu to pick from. Great variety of options. I had the fried captains platter and shared it with my two young children, still had a lot left over. Love getting my fish salt and peppered. Everything was cooked fresh. Great side salad option if you don't want the slaw. The slaw was a little too runny for my liking. They get ready busy on the weekends, a party table would take longer to seat than a table of two. The red snapper was so good

We finally had a chance to try Fishbones on Walker Avenue. We were looking for something casual and…read moreinviting and what we found was a rustic, engaging vibe at Fishbones. We started out with cocktails. I had a Hendricks dry martini straight up (it was delicious) and my wife had a Don't Call Me Sweetie which is mix of Hendrick's Gin, Lemon, Cucumber, Basil, Simple, Saline 15. It is very citrus heavy, so be advised. She had them cut it with a bit of cranberry to offset the citrus. For main courses, my wife had the grilled salmon and she chose sautéed garlic spinach and wasabi slaw as her sides. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my side was blackened green beans. Let's talk main course first. My wife's salmon was terrific. Flaky and moist and very tasty. My shrimp and grits was unique because it was a real balance between large pieces of shrimp and the grits. Many times you'll order this dish and end up with a pile of grits with some shrimp sprinkled on top. This version is very tasty and a really nice balance of flavors. The Cajun seasonings have it some kick, but it did not overpower. The side dishes are where we had a couple of surprises. First off the sautéed spinach was really delicious, but my wife's wasabi slaw was bland. It's a huge shocker because when you see the word wasabi, you expected to have some Asian kick to it. This did not. It was hard to even identify that it had wasabi in it. That was a disappointment. The surprise was the blackened green beans. They actually were one of the stars of the show. Their flavor and texture was just awesome. We could've ordered a huge bowl of it and eaten all of it. While it didn't need it, there was a dipping aïoli on the side, just in case we wanted to add that to the green bean experience. As I mentioned off the start, Fishbones is a very casual experience. It's very pub-like in that way. We really loved it and the wait staff, which is a team approach as anyone who passes you makes sure you're doing OK, were kind, upbeat and helpful. Even with the bland slaw, we can't lower our rating because overall the experience was terrific. We will definitely come back.

Husband and I popped in for a week night dinner after doing some holiday shopping. It's a small, but very cute place. Can sit at the bar or at one of the high top tables. I enjoy sitting by the fish tank they have toward the back. I love their peel and eat shrimp, so we decided to get a pound as an appetizer. These shrimp are the big guys and I highly recommend asking for the Old Bay seasoning on them. I tried to limit my use of the melted butter (of course yum) which wasnt too hard as their cocktail sauce is pretty darn good. The balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy in their preparation is spot on. For entrees we went with two of their most popular dishes. Hubby ordered the farm-raised catfish. This dish comes with certain sides but you can customize, he got the slaw and blackened green beans. I got the blackened ahh tuna medium rare which comes with your choice of two sides. I went for corn and the blackened green beans. My tuna was perfectly prepared and hit the spot. I received two big half pieces of golden yellow corn. It had nice subtle sweetness. Their blackened green beans are a must try. Perfectly seasoned. The creamy dipping sauce is also delish but tried to limit use. This was a lot of food and very healthy. I left plenty full with no guilt. Everything was superb. The service was also very attentive. No issue getting a table on a weeknight. There is something for everyone on the menu. I've never been able to convince myself to get anything but seafood as their specialty, but they do have options for meat-lovers and even some vegetarian and vegan options available. I bet they are good too. Be sure to look at their Facebook page and website to see their weekly Specials. After you give Fishbones a try you, like me, are going to think you should come more often each time you do!

Big blow when we were told they didn't have bangers to go with the mash. Disappointing. We went with the fish and chips and got a side of the garlic mashed potatoes. Also tried the scotch eggs. The eggs were actually really good and nice and hot. Served with a Dijon mustard they were probably the best part of the evening. Nice crunchy coating of breadcrumbs and sausage. Good app. The fish and chips were ok. Lots more batter than actual fish inside. Very greasy. Chips were not the steak fries thick cut like they use to do awhile back. We asked for curry sauce several times before we actually got it. As this is a must anytime you have fish and chips. They should just serve it with it. The mashed potatoes were awesome. Very rich and buttery. We ordered another side as it was the best thing on our table. We also had a round of vodka sodas. Standard good bar drink. I really hoped this would be the great pub experience for my friend but it wasn't what I expected. Hopefully next time round will be better. Hope the get some bangers in soon !!

It's in that same TGI Friday's/Ruby Tuesday/Applebees tier, yet its full parking lot suggests brisk business. The location - it sits on a busy stretch of 66 - may explain some of that though Sixty Six isn't without other virtues. Spacious and well-staffed, Sixty Six isn't the kind of place where you'll have to wait long to find a table or receive food. It's dark and a bit noisy but not headache-inducingly loud. The menu is decently large, boasting everything from apps and wings to burgers and sandwiches to Tex Mex and pizza. There aren't any real surprises, but there's enough variety to accommodate most diets. For our lunchtime visit, my wife and I split a fried pickles app followed by a jalapeno burger (with sweet potato fries) and a Nashville chicken sandwich (with chips), respectively. Admittedly, the fried pickles didn't make for a very attractive-looking plate. Instead of golden brown pickle chips, there were thicker, lightly battered slices. However, they tasted just fine and paired well with a zesty dipping sauce. Speaking of zesty sauces, the chicken sandwich had it aplenty, and it made for a satisfyingly messy bite. The chips were homemade and rated above average. Unfortunately, Sixty Six overcooks its meats. Under all the sauce, the chicken itself was a bit dry. My wife ordered her burger medium well and received it well beyond well done. As with the chicken, it was still flavorful despite the doneness issues. On food alone, Sixty Six isn't a strong draw, but factor convenience and versatility into the mix, and it becomes a solid lunch option.
