When we made the effort to put our dog away, they found another reason to kick us out; that they apparently dont even allow anyone under 21 in because they have a bar (unlike any other restaurant with a bar). The beer was awesome! I had a flight and then a large pour of the milk stout. My boyfriend had an IPA and one of the ales. It was super good and they had a pretty wide variety of different types of beer. The food is where I took off one star. We had the Black and Tan onion rings which were delish!! For dinner I ordered the black bean burger with Brie cheese and fruit jam with garlic fries. The burger was not good. The toppings did not jive with the burger patty, but the garlic fries were AWESOME! My boyfriend got the green chili cheeseburger and it was pretty tasty, along with the regular fries. This is smallish tasting room with great staff. The staff were super friendly and offered some great advice on what to do when visiting New Mexico. The bar itself is small but there is a patio. The floor is lined with peanut shells which I find gives the place quite a charm. Oh the beer, I found the pale ale to be pretty of a pretty nice flavor. And the prices were quite good. Great tasting beer at a fair price. We had the fried ravioli and it was amazing. The marinara sauce tasted homemade from scratch. I had several different beers, but I would say you must try the Dopplebock. So smooth and tasty. Our waiter was a long haired gentlemen that was super attentive and a pleasure to talk to. We sat outside on the patio and the space heaters were a perfect touch. Only reason the 4 stars come in is because we did have an order of onion rings that came really late. The waiter was apologetic, but we were charged anyway even though we really didn't eat any of them. The couple that we did eat were the exact opposite of the ravioli. They seemed they came from a frozen bag and were waaaay overcooked. Batter on the outside had the burnt flavor and the onion on the inside was basically mush. Can't say enough good things about this tiny brewery! All of their beers are unfiltered & very good. I'm an IPA gal & don't care for wheat beers, but I actually enjoyed theirs. I recommend ordering a flight, committing to a pint or three, & taking a growler home. Staff is friendly, knowledgable & passionate about the beer! They provide peanuts & popcorn to munch on, but you can also order from the Colloquium mobile kitchen. A server is on hand to take your order & you don't have to have separate food & bar tabs. They serve appetizers, burgers & sandwiches. I've only tried the queso & it was meh; tasted like velveeta & rotel. They're veg friendly, they have a Gardenburger. Other food looked really good. My out-of-state parents came for a visit, and my Dad's request was trying a new brewery. We'd been to others in the city, but a friend recommend Spotted Dog. I'm not personally a beer drinker, so I can only attest to the happy look on my Dad's face as he tried a few of their IPAs and was in beer heaven. He said it was his favorite brewery so far, and he even bought a shirt from them he loved it so much. Their beer selection was rather large, and the employee helping us was very knowledgeable about the different selections and gave my Dad a few samples to try of what he thought he'd like based on what he normally drinks. I did try the hard cider, which I thought was good, but not great. It was a bit dry for my taste. The food was good, though the menu was very minimal. My wife and I, and several of our friends have been here multiple times over the years and, of all of the places in Las Cruces and Mesilla, this is far and away the best brewery/restaurant in the area. We are lovers of strong dark ales, and there are always a few of these on the beer menu that don't disappoint. The "Wee Heavy" (Scottish Ale) is my favorite, and the Doppelbock is a close second - my wife likes the "Bier du Chien" (a Belgian Farmhouse ale) and the Brown ale. We have also tried a few other beers on the menu, and nothing has been objectionable. The food menu changes by the week, and aways has great selections - the green chili philly and the pulled pork sandwich are always terrific, and the meatball sandwich and paella (only occasionally on the menu) are awesome. Kudos to the kitchen! And the service is always excellent - prompt and courteous and worthy of a big tip. With winter approaching, the limited amount of indoor seating may become problematic, but we'll find a way to survive....... read more
