I am so sad the dry cleaner on Fairmont closed. This is the next closest dryer cleaner and its ok. The guy can be friendly but has also not been. They prefer cash and give you a discount (I think). The dry cleaning is fine, nothing crazy. I have never been rushed and usually forget to pick it up for 2 weeks so I am not sure how quickly they actually service the items. read more

I brought in a summer dress that just needed to be taken in a little on the sides, the owner was polite and accommodating and said he would call a few days later with the price for tailoring, which he did. He said it was $38 which I thought was a little steep for just tapering the sides of the dress, but nonetheless I agreed and picked it up the next week on the date I said I needed it. Overall the tapering was fine and the dress fits well, but the underskirt of the dress is now about an inch longer than the lace over top of it, so it sticks out at the bottom. Not sure why that ended up happening, but I will probably end up trying a different tailor next time. read more

My review of this place is WAAAYYY overdue. In a world where customer service is a long forgotten concept, this place is the proverbal diamond in the rough. Their prices are beyond reasonable and you can't get a friendlier staff. Whether its Nikki, Claire, or the owner herself I've never walked out without a smile (usually after a 10 minute conversation). If you want the best dry cleaner in town and prices that can't be beat this is your place. (it doesn't hurt that EVERYONE in the place is gorgeous) P.S. I highly suggest you do not take anything here for alterations or sewing work. I typically never write reviews but I had such a poor experience I want to make sure others don't make the same mistake and mess up their garments. I took my winter coat in in August to have three of the four pockets fixed for holes - the seams were coming apart. The owner put a safety pin in all three holes to identify them for the seamstress and told me he'll call me with a quote to fix it. He called and left a voicemail saying it's be $16. When I go in to pick up the quote, he charges me $18. I ignored the discrepancy and paid and left with my coat. I didn't start wearing it until November when it started getting cold. When I put it on I realize that 2 of the 3 pockets weren't fixed. One was half fixed (meaning the seam was only half re-sewed) and the other wasn't even attempted to be corrected. The safety pin the owner put on was still attached. When I brought the coat back in, he said he would have to charge me to fix the third pocket and that he should have charged me $35 to begin with. He agreed to fix the half-fixed pocket for free but ended up refusing to fix the third pocket even though I was quoted from the beginning to have it fixed. Lastly, the sew job was done poorly. The pocket ended up being much smaller than when I originally took it in and you can tell where the seamstress cut the coat open to attempt to fix the pocket. It looks very sloppy and some of the feathers are peaking out. Overall, the service was done extremely poorly and the customer service was awful. Please do not make the same mistake as I did for alterations. read more

However, I brought my wedding dress here hoping for it to be preserved and I paid for the "preservation service." But it is not a true preservation. It was dry cleaned and put into a nice box with tissue paper. If someone would like a true preservation where it is displayed and prepared in an air-tight box, this is not the place. read more

This is awkward.... this is my second 5 star review for a dry cleaners in 2014. But before you judge me as a loose 5 star giver allow me to explain myself. To illustrate my 2014 dry cleaning experience I think it would be best to make a comparison to "Benjamin Button" heartthrob Brad Pitt's dating life. In the beginning of the year I had a Jennifer Anniston. Well established, respected in the community, a real knock out when it tried. Sure we had our episodes, and there were things I definitely would have changed but at the end of the day I know my friends envied what I had. Well people change, situations change, and I took a job offer that would move me from 16th and Chestnut to 15th and Spring Garden but more notably out of walking distance of Jennifer. Our underlying issues didn't manifest immediately but I guess distance can either make you or break you. The move became my Mr. and Mrs. Smith. During a casual lunchtime stroll I met my Angelina. Of course the first things you notice are superficial, fresh vibrant storefront with a Fairmount vibe, loading zone parking for ease of pick up / drop off, hour glass body that just won't stop. Whoaaaa my bad I let my mind wander. I didn't go inside that afternoon but I didn't need to, SGC remained on my mind. At first it was just a necessity thing (at least that's what I told myself) and Jennifer was still my number one. My new position demanded daily suitage which increased my dry cleaning demand and even though I didn't publicly commit to Angelina right away she had my heart after my first drop off. I remember it like it was yesterday, it was a Friday and they asked me if Tuesday would be ok to pick up.... that's something I would have had to beg for from Jennifer. Metaphors aside I've never been to a friendlier, more helpful dry cleaners. The staff is great, the turnaround time is amazing, and I'm paying half of what I was paying before. Recently they added a feature where they can keep your credit card on file and you can get your receipt by email which is nice for tax purposes. Jennifer will be fine, she's always fine, and now that I'm with Angelina I've finally found my counterpoint in another. read more

I live one block away so I really wanted to love this place. The people inside are very nice and seem to be genuinely friendly and pleasant people. However, for someone who is really busy and needs things available on time, when they are supposed to be available, reliability is a key factor. So I dropped off a few work shirts here around 8am on a Tuesday. I just started a fancy new job and don't quite have enough money to buy a ton of quality work clothes, so I rely on the few nice work shirts I currently have to be on constant rotation. They offer next day return if you drop off early enough, so when they offered to have these shirts back to me by Wednesday, I was thrilled. I did not need them by then, so I said Thursday was fine. Now, the hours of this place are more limited than any other dry cleaner I have used in the city. Instead of the normal 7am - 7pm, which Adams Cleaners, Fairmount Cleaners, and my personal favorite, Master Tailor and Clearners, use, this place operates from 8am to 6pm. For someone who works 25-30 minutes outside the city and has to be in the office by 8:30, this is a very tight fit. Also, I definitely don't ever get home before 6pm on weekdays. Anyway, with these work shirts supposedly available by Thursday, I had just enough shirts left to make it through the end of the week. I absolutely needed to wear one of these shirts on Friday, but their Thursday guarantee made me feel confident. Since I don't get home before 6pm ever, Friday morning I get dressed with pants, shoes, undershirt, and coat, and walk over to the dry cleaners expecting to put a shirt on while in the car and be good to go. When I walk in Friday morning, my shirts aren't there. The woman at the counter is really nice and apologetic, but that does not change the fact that the shirts were not there a day after they were supposed to be. This was disappointing, but I was late for work, so I had to make do with whatever I had left at home. I go back to pick up the shirts the next day, and most are fine. However, my nice white dress shirt, was actually dirtier than when I had dropped it off. It had brown flakes all over it. The woman at the counter thought it was just lint and tried to lint roll it a few times, and the flakes did not come off. So she offered to send it back for more cleaning. Great. I'm not sure what they were, but I have to go back and pick up the shirt still, we'll see how it goes. Also, another white shirt I dropped off had that annoying browning around the neck area that white shirts worn by dudes with brown skin tend to get. At Master Tailor and Cleaners in Center City, they have always been able to get these out for me. However, this place returned the shirt with a sign that basically said "we tried, it didn't work, we don't want to ruin the shirt by trying more." I guess that's cool, but other places have managed to get the brown out without ruining the shirt, so I don't understand why this place couldn't. Also, no offers for a refund or discount or anything for the inconvenience and poor quality. So, this place is likely awesome for others, based on the rave reviews. However, I am always weary of places that have to send their stuff out to be cleaned somewhere else, and this is one of those places. Also based on their hours, inability to keep a promised availability date, returning a shirt with more dirt on it than before it was "cleaned" and inability to clean a white shirt to the same level others have, this place is not for me. read more

I wish I could figure out how to give this place an extra 1/2 star because they are truly wonderful. I started going to them because of their proximity to my apartment, and I just kept going back again and again. The dry cleaning is great, plus very recently I received a phone call telling me they wanted to clean one of my sweaters again because they found a makeup stain that hadn't come out. They simply wanted to let me know, because the process would take a few extra days but it would be free of charge. I have also brought in tons of items to get taken in and with each one, they did an excellent job. I have referred friends and now i am referring all of you: this place is good. read more

The dry cleaning here is good. However, the customer service experience for tailoring can be uneven (I've read that the quality is good but can't speak to that). Be aware that the tailor is off premises and is only available for appointments that she does not always make. I and one other customer were told to wait a few days and arrive at a specified time that was convenient for the tailor and then we were told to wait 20 minutes before the tailor decided it was too much trouble to make her appointment and belatedly announced that she was not coming after all. Not only did the tailor waste our time, but she told me to come back the next morning. I felt like the tailor was my customer and I was working to please her before I decided to bag the whole deal and find a cleaner that values its customers. UPDATE: the owner did reach out to me a week after I posted this review, apologized, and offered a discount on future service. I saw a review complaining about the price of tailoring a suit. I came here after I lost some weight and needed to basically get ever inch of my suit completely altered. It was around $130 but for the quality of their work I would never blink twice. I picked up the suit and when I put it on I couldn't believe it was the same suit. The people who run this place are wonderful! Last week, I took two pairs of pants and a blouse to the cleaners. I must have incorrectly remembered their hours because I thought they closed at 7:00. I walked up to the building at 6:40, just as the owners were walking out the door. Instead of sending me away (which they had every right to to do - their hands were already full and the lights were off) they invited me in. They turned their lights and computers back on just to help me out. Although the people are great, it is a bit picey. When I lived in Jersey, I loved having a local cleaner do each garmant for $1.99, but that is the exception and not the rule. I ended up paying $16.50 for my three pieces, which was a bit much. But, I guess I can make up for it by using their free delivery service for pick ups & drop offs. If you're local to the Fairmount/Spring Garden area, you can't go wrong with them. read more

I was so pleased when I walked in for alterations on a dress I needed. Was assured that the gentleman doing the alterations has 50 years experience. Picked the dress up yesterday and the dress is not wearable. A zipper was put in that completely ruined a black and gold overlay which now has a gigantic cut zipper with a white backing. Not only is the zipper horribly sewn in but it has made the dress no longer wearable. Searching for a new dress for a wedding. The biggest waste of a 100 dollars. One positive is that the gentleman that greeted me was very kind, however, he was incorrect when telling me his best person would be working on my dress. Beyond disappointed. read more

Don't Go Here. This is the first negative review I've ever written. However, I truly believe that my experience with Spring Garden Cleaners should be heard so that others don't go through the same experience that I went through. I went to Spring Garden Cleaners 3 times before I determined that this was absolutely not a place to give my money. The first time, I had a pleasant experience. My clothes were dry cleaned in a timely fashion and I received all of my items back (can you see where this review might be going?) The second time I brought a dress to be taken up. When I picked the dress up, it was still way too long and the hem wasn't straight at all. The hem was so crooked that when you put the two sides of the dress together, they didn't line up at all. In fact the hem was less like a line and more like a wave. They did agree to redo the hem for free, so I decided to keep going to them. Then, I brought them a large load of clothing to be dry-cleaned and found out that it would take two weeks to get all of the items back. While it did seem like a long time, since it was a big order, I said that would be fine. Two weeks later, I returned to pick up my clothes and one of my favorite skirts, a $75 skirt from JCrew, was missing from my order. They said they had shipped it to a different place to get a stain removed from it, so it would take longer for me to get it back. This was strange to me since the skirt had no visible stains. I called back a week later, still no skirt...A week after that, still no skirt. I asked them if the skirt was lost and they said absolutely not, it just wasn't ready yet. A month after I had originally brought my skirt in, I finally asked to speak with a manager. After several calls he finally called me back. Up until this point, they had not reached out to me at all. It took two more months before he admitted to me that the skirt was lost. He then offered me a credit to the dry cleaners. Obviously, I had no intention of going back to Spring Garden Cleaners once this was settled, so I asked for money instead. I also requested that they reimburse me on my dry cleaning order since I clearly wasn't satisfied with their service. The manager seemed shocked that I didn't intend on using them again and then literally laughed out loud at the suggestion of reimbursing me for my dry cleaning. He said that that was "ridiculous." He explained that he was going to have to go through his insurance in order to give me money for my skirt and that this would take several weeks. During this time, I followed up every week to see if the insurance had processed the claim. After a month, he said he could give me 60% of the cost of my skirt. I explained that I expected to be reimbursed for the whole skirt that they lost. The manager said he'd have to file a separate claim with another insurance company for this, I said I'd wait. Over the next two months, I continued to follow up regularly. No one from Spring Garden Cleaners took the initiative to call me or seemed sincerely sorry for having lost my skirt. The manager seemed annoyed by my persistence to get my money and very unwilling to be accommodating or make the process less extensive. I honestly felt like he was just hoping I would go away without paying me a dime. After nearly six months and a whole lot of energy and time, I was able to pick up a check for my skirt. It was still not for the whole amount. This story is long, the process was tedious and unnecessary, if you don't want to deal with a similar experience, I would suggest looking for a different dry cleaner. read more

Stopped in to see if they could same day an alteration. Got there around 730am and was met by an extremely rude man. He told me i was making his life difficult because i needed the dress the next day. I was dumpling stopping in to see if it could be done. I told him no problem i will continue to look and find someone and he informed me that they are professionals and i won't be able to find any professional. I took some clothes there to get cleaned back in janurary. I got all of the clothes up a few days later except for one. Apparently either they ruined it or lost it cause I have still yet to get it back in april. I think 3 months is more than enough time to get this sorted out. Slow turnaround time, high cost, and Brian can go from being inauthentically friendly to rude and condescending at the drop of a hat. I recently ended up taking my dry cleaning to Chestnut Organic Cleaners after Brian refused to do a 2.5 business day turnaround. Not only could Chestnut Organic Cleaners do 2.5 days, the cost was $44. The same batch of clothes runs me $80 at Spring Garden Cleaners. I was shocked. I've found a new dry cleaner. Another item to note-Brian took over ownership in approx. 2014. The photo listed in this review is pre-ownership change. The 20% discounts, holiday cards, and courtesy pickup reminder calls left with the prior owner. This place used to be great. read more

There is no better place in the city to go for any tailoring or dry cleaning! I recently moved to Hoboken from Philadelphia and I needed to get 3 suits altered. I called Spring Garden Cleaners on a Monday and let them know that I was moving to Hoboken on Saturday of that week. Somehow they fit me in to get sized up after hours which I didn't know until I went there. The sweetest old lady took no longer than ten minutes to get my sizes down. I wasn't sure what to think because of the one bad review that was written but I had gone to them for dry cleaning before and they had never been anything less than excellent with it. Needless to say, they had less than a week to alter 3 suits for me as well as take on the rest of their workload. They not only did it on time but the suits couldn't have been done better. And on top of it, it is the most friendly environment to walk into. From the beautiful ladies to the professional gentlemen, hands down the best customer service I've ever received. They definitely deserve this rating and any time I'm ever in Philly, I'm going straight to Spring Garden Cleaners. Great job guys and thank you so much! read more

I recently had a moth invasion in my closet and found a few of my fancy (expensive) cashmere sweaters had turned to swiss cheese. Moths are no joke, but I laid the smack down on them. It was a massacre. Anyway, I had to drop off a TON of sweaters/tops/dresses to get cleaned. I wanted to try Spring Garden Cleaners since I have not had good experiences in the past with other cleaners. Either they're too expensive or not very friendly (not naming names, but that place at 20th & Locust could use an attitude adjustment). This place was NOT the cheapest, not by any means. My dry cleaning bill could have been airfare (domestic, not international) but they did a great job. Bonus points for getting all the pug hair off of my wool coat. read more

I needed to get a bridesmaids dress hemmed in a hurry (4 days). They agreed to do it and the it was done on time. The dress was hemmed perfectly. I haven't used their dry cleaning service but I would go back for alterations! 4 stars only because $65 for a hem seemed a little pricey. read more

Writing this review, I'm feeling torn. Generally, I really like the people here (the owner and most of the staff are incredibly nice and accommodating). I've only used them for tailoring, so I can't speak to the dry cleaning. They do a really nice job and they're able to work on short notice, but I had a HUGE issue the last time I used them. I was maid of honor in a wedding and my dress was supposed to be ready on a Tuesday and I had a ticket with that date on it. I wasn't able to pick it up until Friday morning (on my way out of town for the wedding)...but my dress wasn't there. Apparently they had sent my dress out to be pressed (free of charge-very nice) and it wasn't going to be returned from New Jersey until later that afternoon. I had to leave town in order to make it to the rehearsal dinner in NY. The girl working was incredibly nonchalant about the whole situation, which was not cool as I was FREAKING out and totally at a loss for what to do. The owner was able to take over the situation and my dress made it back to the shop in about an hour. She was very apologetic and offered to drop the dress off at my house, if that would make things easier. It caused a pretty significant amount of stress and crazy driving that was pretty unnecessary, had the dress been there when they said it would. She did do a wonderful job with the tailoring and the pressing was great. Additionally, a year and a half ago, I took a bridesmaids dress in there that was INSANELY big on me. I honestly don't know how she did it, but the tailor did a wonderful job somehow making that dress into something I could wear for the wedding. I'm hesitant to use their services again because of the recent mix up, but would probably be willing to give it a go with a serious conversation about when my things will be ready. This is probably the worst dry cleaning service in the entire city. I recently moved here from a nearby suburb and started experimenting with their service by taking a few of my clothing items. I am a little particular and wanted to make sure the standard was what I was used to. Most of the first items were good. They were cleaned and while the turnaround time was a little slow, the items looked pretty good. Fast forward to a stain on a polo shirt. Drop it off and show them the stain, the gentleman replied with "no problem, we can do it." Upon pickup there was an even LARGER bleach stain. The part that falls on me is that I didn't notice it until I got home. Regardless went back and showed the gentleman the issue that had all of the sudden compounded. The pin for the dry cleaning tag had been put through the back of the shirt creating a hole. After multiple arguments and no resolution, I left the shirt there and will never go back. Don't let them have a chance to ruin your clothes! Trust me. But if you need an extra polo with a hole in it, feel free to take it! read more

Do not go to this place, they claim to do shoe repair but it is not done on site. I was given a slip on a Friday for repair on 2 pairs of shoes that required stitching, with no price and told that I would be contacted on Tuesday with a price. No one called me on Tuesday so on Wednesday I went to get my shoes so that I could go elsewhere because I wasn't used to this business practice of not being given a price. The owner called the show repair woman and she said that the price would be $40 per pair. $80 was ridiculous and I did not want the service. The fact that the shoe repair doesn't happen on-site should have been a clue to me but I saw the number of stars and thought that it would be reputable, more like shady. I wanted to give zero stars but the app required that I at least do 1 star. In the future this establishment should not advertise that it does shoe repair. I will never go here again for any services. I got my shoes and took them to a reputable place and they are charging me $16 for both pairs. read more

This place was WONDERFUL. I am getting married in January and needed a few alterations on my wedding dress. After going through a horrible experience with my sister with her wedding dress at a large bridal dress business, I was looking for more of a "mom and pop" type of place. As a resident of the Fairmount area, I did not have to go far. They were sweet and accommodating and allowed me to return numerous times in order to get the look I wanted. I really can't say enough about my experience. They were honest and affordable (I've had to pay more for bridesmaid dress alterations in the past at other places). I thought I would love this place and it would become my go-to spot. The first time I went to get a pair of pants tailored and I had to return three times to try them on in their shop until it fit me correctly. I can understand human errors, so I gave it another try and brought in a coat that my cat slept on and a suit jacket for their dry cleaning service. They charged me premium and gave me back a coat with slightly less cat hair and a suit jacket that smells the same as when I gave it to them. I doubt they dry cleaned my items at all, I assumed they made a mistake. They said they would have to charge me more to get rid of all the cat hair and refresh the smell. When they first evaluated my items when I brought them in at the beginning they could have told me that what they are charging me won't cover lint rolling cat from my jacket. I already paid full price when I dropped off the items because I trusted them. The owner did not deliver what he promised and I feel taken advantage of. read more
