First time her but won't be the last time. We came on a Sunday late afternoon. The place wasn't too crowded. Service was pretty quick. We started with the scallops wrapped in bacon. Chef's kiss is all I have to say. I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the lobster roll with fries. The lobster was fresh and not overcooked, bite and tender. The fries had the perfect crispness to them. Just had dinner at SHT. Sat at the bar, When my dinner came I starting eating it and a min latter the bartender placed a container of dirty dishes right in front of me. I asked after a few min I asked is he was going to remove the dishes and his response was I am getting to it. I waited a another two min and nothing. I asked the bartender for the bill without hardly eating any of my dinner. He did not say anything just printed the bill and handed it to me. I payed an left. There was no manager on duty to complain to. I Alerted the hostess about the unacceptable behavior of the bartender. read more

I had an incredibly disappointing experience last evening at Spring House Tavern which is a favorite eatery of a friend. We took him there for his 70th birthday to celebrate. Upon arrival, the hostess discovered that he mistakenly made an Open Table reservation for 2 instead of 4. The initial hostess was able to accommodate us in the bar area, and another hostess seated us. When we were seated at the table, she advised us that we only had the table until 6:45 which meant that we had 80 minutes to eat three courses. She said that the table was needed for another reservation. My friend went to complain to the hostess at the reservation desk while we ordered our drinks. A very direct conversation took place between my friend and the manager with no resolution as to our time limitation, so my friend returned to the table. Subsequently, the manager came to our table and announced that we would not be served. We were shocked and humiliated at such treatment. On our way out of the restaurant, the owner approached my friend and asked to speak outside about this issue. She and my friend were unrelenting in their opposing views regarding this matter. The owner did say that the situation could have been resolved by offering outdoor seating which was available. However, the hostesses, manager, and owner never extended that practical option at any time. Our experience was overshadowed by the restaurant's rigid reservation schedule and the management staff's poor customer service. Having worked for owners of a restaurant, I know that seating flexibility and availability is difficult, but it can be achieved with a little finesse. I am sad to say that Spring House Tavern was an uncomfortable and unwelcoming experience. read more

We really wanted to love this place. :( My husband and I visited for the first time this weekend, and the setting was perfect--a beautiful October day, and we loved sitting outside. Since I have celiac disease, finding places with safe gluten-free options can be challenging. Given that this seemed like a more upscale restaurant, I expected gluten-free choices would be available. When I checked the menu, there weren't any gluten-free items marked, but there was a note at the bottom suggesting to ask for a gluten-free menu. So, when our waiter arrived, I did. His response was simply, "It's just gluten-free pasta." I ended up ordering a shrimp Caesar salad and asked if the dressing was gluten-free. He wasn't sure and had to check with the kitchen, which I appreciated. He came back and confirmed that it was gluten-free as long as I skipped the croutons. However, when my salad arrived, it had croutons on it. I understand that not everyone is familiar with celiac disease, but for me, it's serious, and I end up with hives all over my body. It's unfortunate that our server wasn't better informed. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

Hands down the best place to hold a private party!!! We had a celebration of nineteen people in the Hunt Room. From the day with booked with Karleigh to the day of the event..everything was PERFECT!!! Ann Marie was so attentive to ALL our needs whether it be drinks, water, rolls, coffee, etc. It was so nice to have a choice of five entrees to select from the night of the event. The easter brunch was an insult to the people who came. Clearly pre-frozen prepackaged foods, poorly warmed, spread across the entire restaurant, served to a clearly overbooks crowd. Not a single item, from the food to the drinks was worth $131 for 3 people. We could have had the same lean cuisine mac and cheese in the comfort of our home for $5, and wouldnt have had to wait 15 minutes in line for it. Im upset that we made the reservation. Waste of an Easter morning. I would like to highlight the staff however. They were 10/10. The hostess and host were clearly trying very hard to make everyone happy. They took patrons insults in stride and were very professional. The young lady who took care of us was especially good. Although she had no reason to go above and beyond for us, she did. Yikes. I'll start with the positives. We had some free bread and it was good. The crust was seeded and the butter was warm and creamy. That's where the positives ended. I tried the grouper soup as an appetizer. It was bizarre: the appearance was that of gumbo, but there was absolutely no fish to be found. It was a thin bowl of mud, with a overpowering flavor of cinnamon. Unfortunately I'd say it was the worst soup I've ever had. I tried the house specialty: crab cakes. The cakes were more like meatballs: containing ground up crab in ball-shape. The balls were deep fried and tasted like frying oil mixed with stale fish. I was pretty disappointed. Service was slow: I never got a water refill and my beer refill came 5 minutes after entree plates were cleared. Can't say I'd be back. read more

Portions are small, prices high. The crab cakes are just edible - lots of creamy filling, not enough crabmeat. The only thing I actually enjoyed was the baked potato with butter and sour cream. The coleslaw was blah. Once the waitress brought the food she disappeared. I was parched for water. I brought some work friends there. I think they were disappointed. Crab bites were great! But the entrees are really lacking! Everything was very bland. The filet is so thinly sliced that it's not even a filet at all. It seemed more like a Salisbury steak out of encore frozen dinner. The Delmonico was very thin as well. Both had no flavor and were very dry. Both the steaks and my husband's lobster tail were very overcooked. The truffle fries were bland and seemed like reheated old fries as well. The only thing with flavor was the wine. My dad and I had an absolutely delightful dinner here last night. Annemarie was our server and her service was amazing. My dad and I had just come from Artman taking care of my Mother who just had a fall and we were tired, hungry and kind of emotionally drained. Annemarie was so gracious and kind - it just really warmed our hearts and helped on a hard day after a long week. In addition to the wonderful hospitality, our dinner was delicious- we both had the crab cakes which are a favorite of my dad's! We hadn't planned on having dessert because we had to get back to Artman - but Anne Marie mentioned a housemade blueberry crumb pie. My dad ordered it and was thrilled. We had a 80Th Birthday party for our father. Karleigh Burns was extremely helpful and accommodating in helping set up the party and explain the menus available. The menu was affordable and the food was delicious. Our server/party coordinator AnneMarie was amazing. She greeted me when I arrived, helped me pick out appetizers and was extremely accommodating . She was wonderful taking care of a group of elderly people with many needs. She was so organized , pleasant and so skilled at her job. She really made the party run smoothly . Last night we had dinner at this fabulous restaurant. Our decision to make reservations for our Valentine's Day dinner here was because of our previous visits and the delicious meal we have had. The restaurant has a very attentive staff also but last night besides the phenomenal meal, we had a waitress, AnneMarie, who was delightful. Her demeanor was so inviting , you would never know that she was busy with lots of holiday guests to take care of. She checked on us to make sure our drinks were going to be exactly as we requested besides hearing what we wanted different with our meal. I went to Mothers'' Day brunch last year (2023) and it was very disappointing! ONE problem was that the restaurant does not accommodate a buffet comfortably. Food was in different rooms. We didn't know about the roast beef until we were finished eating as we did not know if was available . . . two rooms over. ANOTHER problem was that food platters were not replenished often enough. Some serving dishes were empty or near empty. FINALLY it was too expensive for what diners received. I would not mind paying a great deal for a good food assortment and a pleasant atmosphere (it was way too crowded/cramped). Mothers' Day Brunch was disappointing as I love Spring House Tavern when I go for lunch or dinner. Their crab cakes are the best! Spring House Tavern attracts old folks like us, maybe because it is so old itself, 306 years, to be exact, but it is wonderful. Food, drinks, ambience are all top-of-the-line. All crab dishes super! Make sure you go over your bill at the bar, charges were added to my bill as well as another customers bill. Not very good and I'm sure the owners don't condone that. That was not the instance I was talking about. I ordered 1 Mic and 1 Stella both bottles and when the bartender gave me my bill it was for 1 Mic and 2 Stella's. I told the bartender that we only had 1 beer each not 3. The fellow with the mustache came over to me and insisted that we had 3 beers and not 2. He kept telling me I had 3 bottles and then in a very condescending manner told me whatever and walked away. That's the instance I was talking about. I had no intentions of trying to beat you out of a beer but your bartender seemed to think I did. read more

Amazing meal with fantastic service! Very reasonably priced. Our Server, Emma N, and the management staff were wonderful. We had a table of three sitting next to us and the man in the group was so rude and obnoxious. He ate his meal and then complained about it and was rude when the manager was trying to make things right for him. He wanted the cost of his meal comped AFTER he ate it! The entire group were so rude to Emma and the manager but they both handled themselves with grace, patience and professionalism. Kudos to the team! I have been here a few times and I really like this place. I had the beef and salmon at a recent party and it was really, really good. The bar area is beautiful and recently remodeled but the other dining areas are a bit dated. I also had the Sunday brunch last week and it was a mixed review. There were some really great choices and some others that were just ok. I loved the omelette station, it was so nice to choose your own fillings and place them in a cup to give to the chef. I don't think I have seen this concept before ( if I have it's been a long time) but I really liked it. They had smoked salmon and it was really top quality and delicious. They also had salmon which was really great ( as usual ) but the shrimp were just alright, not cooked properly as the shells were tough to peel. They were still good but I have had much better. Their wasn't enough space and I couldn't even reach the salads , I think there was Caesar and two other choices. The eggs Benedict weren't very good , mushy muffins and the bernaise sauce was just ok. The star of the show was the prime rib which was not as good as it looked. It was pretty tough but tasty. I did have some stomach issues later in the day from the buffet so I probably won't be going back for the Sunday Brunch but look forward to visiting again for lunch or dinner. read more

Our first time visit proved to be a delicious early dinner meal 08/06/24 with their chicken Parmesan on a bed of angel hair pasta smothered by great Italian tomato sauce for myself and lump crab cake with Cole slaw and mixed vegetables for my Wife. Paired with glasses of house chardonnay wine was very enjoyable. The special on Tuesdays menu was $10 off their prime rib (which most other patrons chose that night) looked very good - we will try in the future. Tonight a bunch of us were at the bar approximately 9:30 pm. The restaurant was clearly getting close to shutting down. Most of the customers have left and staff was cleaning up. Obviously a sign for us to leave soon. Went to use the bathroom and the older guy with grey hair and the small ponytail turned the light off while I was at the urinal. He didn't ask or look to check if anyone was in the bathroom. Obviously he knew what he was doing especially since I walked past him to use the bathroom and where the bathroom is located it's obvious I was going to use the bathroom. Why would you turn off the light knowing about 15 customers haven't left yet. I've worked in the restaurant business for about 10 years about 25 yrs ago and he was unprofessional. You could always say to the customers we are closing or last call. Otherwise the bartenders and other staff were great. read more

We hosted a baby shower here (60 people) and it was wonderful! From first contact with Karleigh to the waitstaff, AnnMarie and Morgan, along with manager, Doug. The food was amazing, served hot, and in a very timely manner. Doug worked with us on the set up (balloon arch and poster on easel) where we could still enjoy the historic charm of our room. I noticed on my way to work, a retaurant that I have yet to explore... The Springhouse Tavern. The Springhouse has a rich history dating back to 1719 and was once a stage coach stop for weary travelers...Well explore I did ! I secured a seat at the crowded bar and met my server, Jessica. I ordered a chalice of Stella Artiois while I studied the menu...The days specials caught my eye ! I started with The Soup de Jour, Roasted Scallop Creole ! I followed that with, Lobster Ravioli, and finished with, Lobster Imperial, creamy imperial sauce/mashed potatoes. I then asked Jessica to recommend a wine for my meal...McMurrys Pinot Noir it was !!! The soup came first, and was loaded with fresh scallops in a spicy creole broth... It was wonderful ! Then the Ravioli ! The Lobster Ravioli were breaded and fried and served with a blush rose cream sauce on the side, for dipping... I wasn't expecting that, but what a great suprise ! YUM !!! The main course soon followed...The Lobster Imperial was packed with lobster and the Imperial Sauce and spices that accompanied it were perfect ! It was served with mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus, As I was ordering an interesting couple, Mike and Judy, took the stools next to me. After talking with Mike and Judy, I found that before Mike retired, he was involved with trade unions and that we knew a lot of the same people. He and his wife Judy were also big time foodies ! We talked about food, and retaurants, both of wich they seemed to have extensive experience ! I then told Judy about my page on Facebook, and she wrote it down and told me she would look it up... Sometimes accidents lead to tasty meals. When we made a reservation for Sunday brunch, my mom thought she was calling somewhere else with a similar name but closer to home. Later when we realized the error we decided that maybe fate was telling us to check this place out. So we made the 50 min trek south and the rest is history. Upon arrival you notice how beautiful this place is, a historic building dating back to the early 1700's. Inside the building is full of original wood,intimate dining rooms and a beautiful bar. Our server for brunch, Jimmy, was outgoing and personable and took great care of us. Now onto the food, so much food! Included in brunch was a build your own omelet station, waffle station, carving station with ham and roast beef, peel and eat shrimp, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, eggs Benedict, French toast, chicken piccata, Mac and cheese, veggies, salmon and tons of pastries and desserts. The amount of food was massive and the price was affordable at $19 a person. All of the food was delicious particularly the roast beef with homemade creamy horseradish sauce and the omelets. We recently dined at the Spring House Tavern. We stopped in for a late lunch early dinner this past Saturday. The place is beautiful and it's like taking a step back in time. The building goes back to the 1700s and a lot of the old charm is still left to be enjoyed. There is a ton of natural wood elements and numerous dining areas. Our server was great! She was very personable and accommodating. The crowd is on the older end but the food was worth it. I started with the French onion soup. It was good. The onions were perfect and the broth had just the right amount of spice and salt. My only complaint would be more cheese. My wife had the turkey club with tomato soup. The soup was delicious! Perfect amount of acidity and spices. The club was equally as good. The bread while good was a bit on the thin side and didn't hold up to the packed sandwich. I had the crab cake croissant. Wow! The crab cake was on point! It was packed full of meat, moist and delicious. I would go back just for that. Overall it was a really good lunch and if were back in the area we would stop back in. Took my wife here for date night, we had never gone before. Very nice ourdoor patio. She ordered the seafood combination. Lobster was great. Calamari was all breading and very heavy on the pepper. The crab cake, supposedly the signature item in this dish, was actually missing! We asked the waiter who said "hmm I knew that didn't look right" (but brought it to us anyway, perhaps thought we wouldn't notice?) I got the chicken parm, would not recommend. Sauce had no taste at all. Our waiter was not at all attentative, yet the restaurant wasn't that busy that night. This is a pretty expensive place, I expected much better.
