I got the meatballs again and they were as good as before. I ordered a new entree - Lobster Ravioli! It was heavenly - perfectly cooked pasta with a good amount of lobster! The sauce was so rich and creamy - my partner and I loved it! She got the Lobster Capellini again - it, like the meatballs, was as good as we remembered! Of course the view from the enclosed veranda was as gorgeous as ever! Amelia's will be our 'go to' restaurant whenever we visit Spring Lake.

We were seated right away in what they call the lounge. Don't let that fool you. It's made for a more intimate dining experience with tables for two or four. (The main dining room is more noisy, large, and great for parties of five or more.) The waiter (Sean?) was very attentive but not overly so, and that was great. In fact, it seemed that all the servers were attentive and made each individual table feel welcome. The menu is varied and the prices are actually reasonable for the quality. A wonderful crusty bread with a shaved cheese topping, olives, and a light olive oil was at our table right away. Which brings me to what we ordered. I had the prime filet which was buttery tender and cooked perfectly, my friend had the wagyu skirt steak which was also very good and had a lot of flavor. We shared the crispy potatoes, which was more than enough for both of us. Order those--they were delicious! We had the tiramisu which was a bit different from what we were used to, but it was still good and very filling, even though we shared. We each had a glass of wine with our meal, and coffee with dessert, and that all came out at appropriate times. As I said, the servers are very attentive and the kitchen has the food timed perfectly, which is hard to do on a busy weekend night in the summer. While two of the sides were piping hot and quite tasty (jambalaya with andouille sausage and corn maque choux), the hush puppies looked like black golf balls. The blackened catfish was delicious and the plating was very nice. What happened? Old oil for some of the preparation? New help in the kitchen? I don't know but it needs to be looked into. Our server, JP, was excellent and attentive and conveyed our concerns to the kitchen. That said, we will return in the future as I believe this was a "one off". The decor has been improved a bit since our visit in February, but is still miss the old vibe.

Then she added another appetizer, spicy garlic shrimp. Generous portion of 6 shrimp. My other friend had the crabcake & shrimp plate, which came with a side salad that our waitress was savvy enough to bring first when our other friend was enjoying her soup. Some crumbled feta on the side salads, a nice touch. When she ordered, my friend asked if the crabcake had a lot of breading and our server assured her that it doesn't; that turned out to be accurate! I also got that side salad with the Ahi tuna bowl I ordered. This was a bowl of dry, bland white rice (might have been jasmine rice but not strong flavor). On one side atop the rice was a good portion of seaweed salad, which I love. Piled sort-of artistically on the other side of the rice mound were several small slices (6? 7?) of perfectly "black and blue" tuna crusted with both black and white sesame seeds. The fish and salad were delicious but not terribly filling. I ate most of the rice. I noticed that there was a marinade at the bottom and began to mix the rice with the marinade that was tasty. They do add 2.5% for credit cards, but that's fair enough these days. Entrées are on the pricey side, I thought ($39. for the crab/shrimp dish, 32 for my tuna, 12 for the lobster bisque), but there aren't any bargains dining out these days. We had no complaints, other than my somewhat dry rice. I'd like to give it 3 1/2 stars but will err on the generous side. We'll probably return next year on our beach day!

We were told yes by our server (who was a dear really, she was great I don't really blame her for anything) that they could leave out the chilies. Well we ordered them and there was definitely chilies! My friend could not eat them at all. I like spicy and even my eyes were watering. I just question getting bread rolls served with the mussels when the usual service is sliced toasted bread. So, as I said, I think just temper your expectations. This place does have the beautiful view going for it.

This is actually the best restaurant on the Jersey shore. I have been coming down here for 10+ years and nothing comes close. Nestled in the heart of charming Spring Lake this seafood focused establishment is sure to impress. Cafe and seafood market by day, full service restaurant by night. Clearly this chef is inspired. The menu is well rounded and priced appropriately. The portions are proper and the execution is flawless. Ambiance and decor don't skip a beat. Clean, tasteful and inviting. One small thing that bothered me: when I ordered bottled water, the glasses appeared to be taken from a neighboring table that had been sitting there. They may have been perfectly clean and unused, but psychologically I'd rather receive fresh glasses. Not a huge issue, just something I noticed. Now for the food. The crab cake was excellent - easily the highlight of my meal. My friend ordered oysters, and I tried one as well. They were fresh and delicious. For my entree, I asked for a salad recommendation and was steered toward the peach salad. Unfortunately, this was a miss. The peaches were hard and unripe, and the dressing was so vinegar-heavy that I found it nearly impossible to eat. My friend was hungry and less picky than I am, so he ended up finishing it. I politely mentioned the issue to our waiter, making it clear I wasn't looking for anything removed from the bill since the salad had still been eaten. After that interaction, though, it felt like he disappeared for much of the evening, and we had to flag him down to get a dessert menu. Ironically, I decided not to follow his recommendation this time and ordered the chocolate cake instead. Great decision. It was absolutely delicious and ended up being another highlight of the meal. Have you ever had one of those experiences where every recommendation is somehow the wrong one for you? It happens. This is a beachfront restaurant, and maybe the salad was just an off day. The only reason I'm mentioning it is to save someone else from ordering that particular salad if the kitchen is preparing it the same way. Overall: friendly staff, great location, excellent crab cake, fresh oysters, delicious chocolate cake, decent drinks, but slow service and a disappointing peach salad. Chef Bass was out on the floor greeting guests and bringing out plates. He has really terrific energy. Bistro by Bass is a great dinner date spot and I also observed many larger tables having shared food. Next time, I'll order the pork chop for myself. I also saw several orders of escargot go by that looked really good. I wish I got the tableside bananas Foster. I've had it before there and it was fabulous! I ordered the almond Amarado gelato that tasted like a delicious almond joy, coconut, and almond crunches throughout. When we asked if we could sub the French fries (allergy safe) for the side offered with the meal (it was either mashed potatoes or a pasta/rice and it was not safe) we were told no, but we could pay for a side dish of fries. We just felt like they were not super accommodating; they would have been fine putting a protein on the plate with no sides and calling it a day. Though our meal was very good. I don't think we will go back due to how crowded the space felt and not being able to accommodate allergies.
