This is a sports bar, so if your into sports this is the place. However that said and done the food is good. The portion sizes are also good. If you coming here to relax and enjoy a quiet evening, not the place too be. They also have a band that plays here on Friday nights. After shooting some balls at the nearby Van Nuys Golf Course, I was in need of a beer to remedy my throbbing back. Apparently my posture while golfing is still very much subpar. With the Springbok literally right next door, we decided to go get a few beers and grab some lunch there. We spent about two and a half hours here, sitting outside on the patio, sheltered by an umbrella from the menacing sun. Amazingly, it was actually quite comfortable sitting outside. The breeze cooled things down and, perhaps thanks to the lush green jasmine climbing all over the fence, it was actually pleasant sitting outside. I ordered the Bok Lager and my wife had a Hefeweizen. Well, actually we ended up ordering several rounds, but this was, after all, over a 2.5 hour stretch. We started off with the Buffalo wings appetizer, a great value at $6.95 for 12 home-made hot chicken wings. No siree bob, these weren't Costco manufactured hot wings. You could taste the sauce was most definitely homemade and the wings were very tasty and had a serious kick to them. Sadly, our waitress Sharon was the only waitress there and service took a while, so our wings weren't really "hot" (in terms of temperature.) As for our main course, I got the bunny chow, which sounds way nasty, I know, but it's actually a South African curry in a bread bowl. It was delicious, if it completely sidetracked my idea of curry. Certainly there was curry powder in this "curry", but it was more of a beef stew with onions, carrots, and potatoes, and curry. It was very good, actually, and the bread used to make the bowl was fabulous. Although I left probably half my plate intact, it was a very tasty dish! My wife had the turkey sandwich with avocado. I tasted a bite of it and it was really a great sandwich. Again, the bread, which I don't quite know where they get or if it's homemade, was very good. It was completely unexpected. I had thought I was simply meeting a friend and some of her gang for a drink and a bite to eat at a neighborhood sports bar. It was a UFC fight night and I happen to be a fan. The moment I entered, I knew I had walked into someplace special. And Springbok Bar & Grill certainly proved to be that not only on that night, but on future visits as well. The food is sensational. Everything. A favorite of mine being the authentic fish and chips. As I mentioned, I was with a group, so I got to taste of a number of other dishes. Each one was a little unique and delicious. But there were some other things not on the menu that really made the night. Robin, the South African owner of Springbok, when you meet him, greets you like he's been "your mate" for years. He's gracious, down to earth and instantly makes you feel welcome. It's like you're an invited guest and not just another customer walking in off the street. If you're a sports fan, you'll be in hog heaven as you find yourself surrounded by high quality screens whichever direction you look. But somehow, perhaps it's the way they were arranged, it's not intrusive. So if you're there just for conversation and good food it's still a fantastic choice. Obviously, I love the place and feel like I found my new neighborhood hang. Good people, good food, friendly atmosphere. What's not to like? Do yourself a favor. I was enticed by the garlic fries. Good, but not out of this world. I like the multiple deals they offer. They have one for 50% off when you check in through Yelp. Good vibe in the bar. Springbok is great for people watching and sports watching. Rocky (I believe he was the manager) was so helpful to find Lissa G and I a table on a busy Friday night. He made sure to get the Kings game on right away that I was interested in watching, and most importantly, even took care of our drink order. What impressed the most was their food. If you get anything with Peri Peri sauce you can't go wrong. It is a hot and fragrant sauce used in African cooking and it was great with chicken liver. We also had their buffalo wings which were also good with a beer and a shot of whiskey. My friend loves this place so he wanted to have dinner here. I, of course, yelped it first and decided to give it a try after reading some of the reviews and looking at pictures. At first I almost missed it while driving because of all of the trees around. There's a small parking lot in the back of the bar or street parking. Whatever you do, DO NOT park in the lot across the street. They were towing cars when I was there and the waitresses were going around asking people if they had parked in that lot. Service was great! I arrived around 5:45 PM so it was still early. Bar was full, but plenty of tables were available so I sat myself in the quiet dining area. I was immediately attended by a nice waitress. She got my drink order and I told her I was waiting for a friend. Right before happy hour ended, she asked me if I wanted to put in any appetizers while I waited for my friend so I did. I ordered the calamari and the potato skins. Both were amazingly delicious. The potato skins were perfectly crispy with the right amount of cheese and bacon bits. For our meal, my friend and I shared an African platter that consisted of shrimp, lamb chops, sausage, chicken in a spicy sauce, and chicken skewers. All on a bed of crispy, lightly salted, French fries with a salad on the side. Everything was delicious!! We couldn't even finish the meal. It's probably good for 3 people. It's served with the regular toppings and the bun is different but in a good way. You scored Springbok. Fries were great. We also got the wings as an appetizer because a waitress walked by us as she delivered them to another table and the smell is irresistible. Loved the size of them, big with a lot of meat. The Philly steak sandwich is not half bad. THe burger is still our fav. They have a nice selection of beers on tap. Stone IPA to Green Flash IPA to PBR because by then it just sounded good. I really like this place. I come here with my boyfriend for dinner and drinks from time to time. (He's been coming here for a long time). Went to Springbok today with friends to watch the football game. Very nice and attentive waitress, always refilling my ice tea. I got the Fish and Chips - which was actually Sole. It was very good. A few friends got burgers, another friend got sausage. Everyone really liked their food. We were deep in conversation, but we kept looking up and catching the game. There were many people there who were glued to what was happening on the TVs. And they have lots of TVs for the game. A very fun place, with a good menu. Great for watching sports. read more

This place is mostly A+. I attend their comedy nights at least 2x a week (though they have it 3x, Wed, Sat and Sun) which I've been doing for almost 2 years now. It's such a great time. Billy, the host is awesome and friendly and Sara and AK are the BEST staff they have there! Food is good and reasonably priced, it's clean and overall a great place. The comedy nights are fantastic. Great line up of professional comics, good laughs. The only downside is the music from the bar. They allow the music to be far too loud and it can sometimes ruin the experience hearing thumping base while trying to listen to the comics. Ordered food for my family yesterday(8/10/20) and the female who took my phone order did not provide me with amount owed. Prior to picking my food I calculated the bill at $60. When I went to pick up my order she did not show me my check, but instead blurted out a $94 for a burger, chicken tenders, garlic , Philly cheese sandwich, and ribs. I can't believe with the times that I've been here that I never reviewed this place. So let me fix that now. It's a sports bar on Victory Blvd in Van Nuys. They serve everything from basic bar food to Indian and South African and everything in between. They have a great selection of beers. The staff work their tails off, especially during the weekend. I've been coming to Springbok for several years, it's one of the better and more unique bar&grilles in the valley. For as cosmopolitan as LA is, South Africa doesn't have a very big culinary representation around here, so it's nice to experience the interesting flavors here. The Chicken Peri-Peri and the Boewors Roll are my two favorite choices, not just because of the amazing marinade slathered on the chicken breast, or the sheer size of the sausage sandwich (served with yummy "train smash sauce"), but because you can't quite find anything like it elsewhere. The selection behind the bar is pretty traditional, the craft beer selection has gotten a bit more diverse over time but it won't blow the waxed moustache off an acolyte of the church of hops. I find a simple Guinness pairs well with most of the food. The service is generally good and friendly and if I've ever had a reason to complain, I sure can't recall it so it must not have been a big deal. It's a fun place to watch sports, with a lot of screens and two big projectors in the dining room. The only real con to coming here is the parking, which is limited to a few spots in back that are almost always taken, as well as curbside stuff. It's not like there's a crippling lack to it, but the neighborhood has annoyingly long red zones all over the place, so sometimes you have to walk a bit. On the plus side, the Woodley Orange Line station is right there across the street. read more

I normally get great service, but I've had a couple less than stellar visits, which is why they get 4 and not 5 stars. The appetizer tacos (filet mignon and fish) are good, the fish is fried and both come with a yummy salsa. The Guinness stew isn't bad, but it could use a better gravy. Showed up for the early NFL games. Chantel, the bartender, was very friendly and super competent about the menu, which games were on which tvs etc, so it was easy to get situated. The decor is a little old looking, paneling etc. The good is they have TVs showing every game. The bad is some of the TVs are very small. Plus they are spread out, so you can't really follow EVERY game at the same time from your seat. I ordered Garlic Fries (average) and wings (slightly above average) and a Cadi Margarita (EXCELLENT). The food came out rather quickly for ,made to order. The places was not packed, but it was a solid group of fans rooting for their teams. We actually went here coz I was curious about South African food and I happen to love peri peri and I was so happy to learn they have peri peri. I ordered my usual which was the strongbow cider and some wings from their happy hour menu. The food, service, and vibe was VERY good. I even learned a new billiards game in the process. Despite the fact I lost in round 2 of that new game. I ALWAYS enjoy coming here for a good social vibe and sublime happy hour food. My bartender Janette was Very professional, and hardworking. She did all in her part to make sure I was satisfied. It is these kinds of bars that REALLY stand out to me. It is NOWHERE else in the food service industry where both the management and service staff alike will make sure you are satisfied, and/or welcomed with open arms. It is 110% likely I will be coming here A LOT more often than before. The odds of being in a bar other than Springbok is insurmountable.
