Recently relocated to this area and brought my large dog in for a routine appointment. The vet tech's attitude towards my giant breed immediately put me on edge. My dog, who is friendly and non-aggressive, startled her when she entered the room. If you're afraid of dogs, perhaps being a vet tech isn't the right profession for you. The tech seemed annoyed and impolite throughout the visit. Thankfully, the vet was friendly, but the cost of the appointment was exorbitant - $75 for the visit and an upcoming appointment for vaccinations was quoted at over $250. They were pushing other expensive treatments. I decided to seek out a different vet for future appointments that has techs that realize dogs come in all sizes. read more

All of the staff at Springtown Veterinary Hospital are so patient and caring. I found them just by luck, after calling many vet offices when my dog had an emergency. Cassie was the first person that I talked with and she was so supportive and caring. Turns out my dog needed major surgery and Dr. Martin was great in making sure we were comfortable with all of the info about the surgery and during the whole process. Others have seen both of my dogs and all have been excellent. The moments that stand out most in my mind happened last week. My dog got sick again and they were able to see her quickly. As it turned out, she was too sick to save this time. Dr. Luke and his tech were beyond amazing in handling the situation with compassion, patience, and dignity. Yesterday, I received the sweetest sympathy card from Dr. Luke and staff with handwritten words of comfort for our family's loss. This is the worst Vet in San Marcos. The staff is rude and non compassionate and the new young doctor should not be administering shots as he is clearly inept at it. I took my kitty boys in for their vaccinations yesterday, and I walked in the front to check them in while they were still in the car to make sure no big dogs were there to scare them. There were two gentlemen at the counter holding a black and white cat like a baby in a blanket, and the front desk girl was taking money from them. It turns out the cat was dead and she was making them stand there with their dead cat in their arms while taking money from them. Where is the compassion not to mention dignity??? They should have taken those gentlemen into a room and taken the poor dead kitty away, instead of making them stand there with their beloved dead cat in their arms while taking money from them, which is all this place seems to care about. It was so upsetting that I started crying for that cat in the reception area. Then the new doctor who vaccinated my cat did a very bad job and stuck my poor Shamus 4 times as he could not do it right, and then finally he jabbed him really hard. He also seemed to hurt him with the thermometer up his bum. My cat has been in pain all night and really won't move around very much. I am taking him to a new vet for his follow up vaccinations. Please consider taking your pets elsewhere, this place just has bad juju all around and it was traumatizing for me and my kitty boys. read more

We have been going to them for about four years now and even when we moved an hour away last year we still make the trip monthly because they are in your opinion the best vets in Texas. In the last month both my mother and myself experienced two unexpected major medical problems with each of our female Chihuahua mixes. At the start of October my elderly mother's dog developed an extremely severe case of canine IMTP ( an acute autoimmune disease) that was quite serious and life threatening. Springtown took her on short notice as an emergency case and Dr. Dan Nowland was able to diagnose and treat her immediately. He was very upfront with us that this was a life threatening situation and things were very critical. He and his amazing staff worked diligently and aggressively to bring my mothers dog back around. She was quite difficult to treat as she refuses to take medication and Dr. Nowland was wonderful about ordering special compounded medications that could be mixed with food. The communication that we received from Dr. Nowland and staff during her 10 days of hospitalization was outstanding. I can't emphasize enough how professional and skilled everyone working at Springtown has always been. My mother's dog has continued to do extremely well upon discharge and the staff has been excellent at communicating how long term management of this disease will play out and exactly what we need to do. Following the discharge of my mother's dog my Chihuahua mix suddenly developed a large abdominal mass in the lower left quadrant and refused food. I need to preface by saying that my dog is an incredibly difficult case because she, like my mother's dog had been a stray some years ago and has an incredibly distrustful approach to anyone that isn't family. Without mincing words...she is darn nasty and will bite anyone who she doesn't know that tries to touch her. This makes vet care extremely difficult. Simple vaccinations have always been a horrible ordeal with this dog. I had a vet in Kyle actually refuse to spay her several years ago because of how difficult she is. Unfortunately she was left intact and kept away from males thinking we had no options for her. She is the most loving and loyal dog with family but Is truly a risk for strangers. When this mass developed I was beside myself because I knew treating her was such a struggle. When this mass suddenly appeared I called Springtown right away and they agreed to see her that morning even after being fully warned about her aggression issues. Dr. Dan Nowland again comes to the rescue. Springtown was able to get her sedated and via imaging was able to diagnose that she had developed a very large hernia and her uterus had prolapsed into said hernia. Dr. Dan informed us that this would be a complicated surgery to spay her and repair the hernia but assured us that he would immediately take her to the OR if we OK'd the procedure. Everything went beautifully and our super grumpy pup was ready to come home the next day. Ideally she would have overnighted with them a bit longer but her refusal to take meds and dislike for everyone made at home recovery a better option. This practice was accommodating to her issues above and beyond. Never did I feel like she received lesser treatment because of her difficult behaviors. Everyone employed there is always so incredibly nice and professional. Also, I had stopped using Springtown for routine care several years ago because we moved out of San Marcos and I had young children at home...we just wanted someone here in Kyle. When I called them for help with these two serious medical issues they were nothing but helpful and welcoming. This practice is worth the drive and every penny spent on care. I thought that using a vet close to home for convenience was the way to go but the quality of care wasn't even close to we received at Springtown. It is worth the drive, especially with convenient drop off and pickup times. If you ever find yourself in a position where a pet has a complicated or very serious medical condition there is no better place than this clinic. The pricing for the quality of care is very reasonable. After many years as a pet owner I'm convinced they truly are the very best in the area. read more

They massively over charged me and lied to my father about symptoms in order to approve additional testing when I was unavailable to answer the phone. They did tests that I specifically said no to at check in. They also let my senior dog sit in her pee and then gave her to me all wet but sprayed with perfume. This place is disgusting. If I could give no stars I absolutely would! You lost my business as a primary vet and a way to board my dogs. We have called to keep the clinic updated that we are stuck in stand still traffic. And also keep in mind we just came back from a last minute funeral! So of course the first thing I want to do is give my pups and big ol hug after a stressful weekend. We called to let the clinic know we are 11 minutes away and we understood it's after hours but we've let you know a head of time. And the manager said we would have to board another night. We explained we do not have the money for another night because we just came back from a last minute out of town family emergency. And explained we did not pack food for my BLIND dog who is on a SPECIAL DIET because if given anything else he will have diarrhea. Also the fact that the manager said "well then you would have to feed him when you get him tomorrow" excuses me?! So your saying that my dog will not eat tonight nor tomorrow until I go and get him. I've been in the vet field for 4 years and not once Im my whole career nor will I ever tell a client in the future that their dog will not be eating till they pick them up. As a current vet technician it is to my understanding that we are to put the pet and the clients needs first. But you want to go ahead and say "our team has worked so hard today and some have plans after work so we can't wait 11 minutes for you to come and get your pups." I have waited and hour or more for clients and not once did I complain about having to stay over hours because as a vet technician this is what you signed up for! The pet and client come first! If your not wanting to do that for any client regardless then this isn't the field for you! Because to me what you are saying is if a pet were to get hit by a car and it's 5:59pm and you close at 6pm, your going to turn the pet and client away because you have plans after work? So you would rather have an hour of fun or whatever that could wait than save a life that needs you stat? This is not the type or clinic or team to be Handling my pets ever again. read more

The vet techs here are incredible and the vets are very caring as well. My kitty has a lot of stomach problems and recently some skin issues. They were quick to get her in and when something didn't work they were quick to find a new solution that would work. They even text me to check up on her after her visits which is so sweet. Last summer I was brought a severely starving, stunted 8-week-old kitten and not long after he had a rectal prolapse due to a massive parasite overload. I took him to an emergency vet clinic for the surgery procedure since I hadn't found a regular vet after moving, and I decided to try Springtown for his follow-up care. I was very impressed. Because he was so tiny and stunted, the one little stitch to hold his rectum in while it healed blocked him up completely and he couldn't poop. The first time I took him in they kept him and very gently manually cleaned him out. The second time, Dr. Dan and I agreed that even though we would rather leave the stitch in as long as possible since he was so anemic and might need extra time to heal, it was just causing him to suffer, so it was removed. Because his little body was so fragile, Dr. Dan made sure that I had the after-hours number to call in case there were any complications that night so he could meet me at the clinic. I have worked for vets in the past, and behind the scenes it can be rare to find one who actually cares about the animals and sees them as the individual personalities that they are, much less encourages someone to call the after-hours number, and a brand new client no less! Dr. Dan and his staff truly cared. They are now my regular vet! read more

I really wish I could give them more stars. The people at the front were very nice to my dog and me, but the actual visit was weird. I was just bringing my dog in for a routine check up and booster shots. The nurse tallied up how much it would cost and hit us with a bill of around $420. The vet we visit when we're in Houston charged us $128 last time. Somehow this vet was three times as expensive. The examination room was fine, albeit a bit bare. The doctor was fine, but the nurse was kind of gruff with us. When it was time for his testing and shots, they took him to a back room (leaving us in the examination room). Our dog was pretty unhappy and scared when he got back. I've had dogs all my life, and I've never ever seen a vet take my dog away for vaccines. Sketchy. A lot of the $420 bill came from an expensive heart worm and flea preventative medication. After talking to them about it, we found out that they had a different heart worm and flea preventative medication for almost half the price. Again, sketchy. Overall, I'll go back if I have a real emergency. If it can wait, I'd rather drive down to Houston to see our other vet. read more

I have had our pets to Springtown for almost 15 years but after moving out of San Marcos several years ago I used their sister clinic in Kyle for most of our routine care. When it came time to neuter our new adopted cat I wanted to take him to Springtown as they are the only ones I fully trust for anything surgical or anesthesia related. Dr. Dan and staff are always incredibly kind, knowledgeable and communicative. We were not treated any differently even though I use the Kyle clinic for routine care due to convenience. They were as professional and outstanding as always. My husband ended up stuck on zoom meetings at his office and was unable to pick our cat up that evening following his procedure. I phoned the staff and they kindly boarded him overnight for us! If you are looking for the very best veterinary care available in the Austin metro this is your place. They are worth every penny and more. Over 10 years ago Dr. Dan and staff completed a very complicated orthopedic hip and patella surgery on our young Pomeranian and she healed beautifully and is still going strong at 13 with zero complications. when I first went here I loved them but recently I had a bad experience. When they called to check in on my cat they chose to make a comment over the phone about how my cat was one of the most difficult ones they've had to handle. I felt that was very unprofessional especially when they gave her multiple shots and shoved a pill down her throat. I've taken my dog here for years and always loved it. Recently I've felt that they try to push you on things that aren't necessary and kind of talk down to you when you decide against it. My last visit they told me my dog needed a dental cleaning and quoted it at $465, which as a college student is just way too expensive for me. I've been going here for years. I love all the doctors and staff. Everyone is always excited to see my dog and all are friendly and helpful every single time I've been in. The technicians go through the cost of anything for your pet before they do anything,and it's much appreciated! My dog has allergies so I have to bring her in more than your typical healthy dog. Dr. Seaton has been wonderfully helpful giving an immune supplement suggestion for my dog and recipe ideas for my dog's meals. I also love that they e-mail a detailed medical record after each visit. After we broke up with our last vet, we began the quest to find competent medical care for our kitties in San Marcos. A colleague of mine who used to work as a vet tech in Austin said that she had heard good things about Springtown Veterinary Hospital, so we gave them a call and made an appointment. This first thing I noticed upon walking into this place was how competent the staff seemed. From the ladies working the front desk to the vet tech who greeted us and ushered us into an exam room, everyone clearly knew what they were about, which was a refreshing change. They all also seemed to have a genuine love and concern for the animals under their care. Due to one of our cat's poor health, we've been back here several times in the past few months and we have been very happy with the care we've received. We've had appointments with Dr. Seaton and Dr. Jordan, both of whom were incredibly nice ladies who took the time to explain all the treatments they recommended and why they recommended them, and then went over the results with us like we were competent human beings and not ignorant neanderthals encountering fire for the first time. When we've asked for a recommendation on whether or not to get a pricier test done, I did not feel pressured in the decision at all. We were presented with the facts and then a very honest appraisal of cost vs. benefit. I really appreciate not only the care we received for our pets but the care they give to their human clients. One caveat to this review is that Springtown is not cheap. They do offer a few payment options to lessen the financial burden, including an open line to CareCredit, a zero interest credit card company specifically for medical costs. They also except two major brands of pet insurance that I know of, perhaps more. For the quality of care that we've received here for out pets, the increase in fees has been well worth it. read more

Honest vets, thorough, they actually care about your pets. I took my dog here for a while and the vets have always been very kind & pull me aside to explain everything. Recently my dog has had seizures and I went to another vet in my home town to get her checked out and they prescribed a medication that will basically cause liver failure. I drove 5 hours because I trusted this vet and they gave me better medication that doesn't harm or devalue her quality of life. They were extremely kind and got me a appointment the same day, they answered the millions of questions I had and they not only sent me home with the better medication but they went the extra mile to print out a emergency contact sheet, an article on seizures, and security that my pet got the best care. read more
