In dealing with a customer service issue, I was accused multiple times of lying about an order even though I have email and screenshot proof of everything, with absolutely no vagueness present in the evidence. Honestly, I'm super thankful we have this store here in SF. Since Nordstrom closed, there are not really that many places where you can go get advice on Strollers and Car seats for babies. The newborn world is overwhelming and Sprout SF has incredible staff members that can help you navigate through all the options and narrow down your choices. The staff is knowledgeable and super friendly. Prices are standard, although I must say that some stuff is a little pricier than other places. I have been shopping at Sprout San Francisco for months to pick out all of the baby gear needed for my first grandchild including a crib, stroller, car seat, highchair, bathtub, glider chair, bouncy chair, etc. The service was excellent and I would not hesitate to recommend the store. The manager was very patient and nice about explaining the many features of the different products to me including some very unique and wonderful products like a rocking straw bassinet. My purchases came in many deliveries and I was always kept informed of the tracking information, which was most helpful. I bought a full layette for the baby which includes a number of different brands of clothes that are absolutely adorable. They are great quality and are made with healthy ingredients including organic cotton and bamboo. I just wish that I lived closer to the store so I could visit in person. We have lots of baby stores in NYC, but none that compares to Sprout San Francisco in the volume of great products and excellent service. read more

This is an adorable spot to gear up for your new baby or purchase a baby shower gift. They've got a lot of unique brands as well as the big ones and they take the time to show you the features of whatever item you're looking at, evening comparing and contrasting for you. I don't have a baby. But I know people with babies. And being a "last-minute" person, it's nice to have a place to get quick gifts for babies and toddlers. I've gone here a few times and have been guided through the store by helpful staff to point out gift ideas. I guess I come in looking flustered with a deer-in-the-headlights look, because I'm pointed to what's cool in kids toys very quickly. The products they sell are different than what I remember growing up. They play up this whole "good for the environment and your baby" vibe that seems like they've purposely defined that as the brand identity. At the same time, the toys are what I imagine my grandparents or Swedish children playing with now. Many of the toys are minimalistic and free of cross-promotion. Instead, there are boxes of wooden toys labeled "Train" or "Truck", in green and grey packaging. I'm surely out of the loop, but unless there is a tv show about the recycling icon and 100% post consumer recycled cardboard, you won't see many products with tv characters or movie tie-ins here. Overall happy it exists in's Marina. Otherwise, I'd be buying whatever I can scrounge up last minute from Fredrickson's Hardware. read more

Sprout was having an incredible sale online back in early December (?) and I managed to get a few Uppababy accessories at a discount which is so rare! Due to what I believe are supply chain issues, one of the accessories was back ordered until late-December. It was late-December before I knew it and I hadn't received any updates on shipments so I reached out to Sprout. I corresponded via email with Julie who was incredibly nice and provided the best customer service/experience. She let me know that the accessory was going to be shipping later than originally communicated which wasn't a big deal for us, and regularly sent me updates whenever she had any news to share. Absolutely LOVED this place. As an expecting mama, I was overwhelmed by the choices of car seats and strollers. I thought I had an idea of what I wanted, but I wasn't quite sure. Mika gave us hands on experience with what I thought I wanted, as well as time to compare it with what she recommended and an explanation as to why. She couldn't have been more right! I never would've known this information without her expertise! All said and done, we bought our car seat and stroller together and got a $50 discount... and 10% off the top of that because we signed up for the newsletter. Discounts on Nuna and Uppababy are rare, so we jumped on this and ultimately saved roughly $150. We plan to go back to grab some of the other necessities (carriers, feeding pillows, etc.). read more

Excellent experiences with Sprout! It's super easy to make an appointment to check out baby gear and create a registry. In fact, I was able to go into the store after hours (huge plus during COVID) and register. Whitney was fabulous and walked me through all of the various items. Tons of 'natural' baby clothes on the racks and other 'tidbits'. Not much for actual 'gear' - maybe 2-3 stroller models and likewise for cribs, highchairs, carseats and any 'big' stuff, really. They have a little play area for the kids to enjoy though, which is really great. read more

Customer service...this is what you do in order for people to buy stuff from you. And when people buy stuff from you, you can buy stuff yourself. Its called salary. The more people buy from you - the more you can buy yourself. Its called growing business. And the concept of that interdependent circle should be very simple to grasp. But not in this case. Therefore the idea behind being rude to people who pay your salary is illogical at best. For an independent store (which I otherwise support and hope they'll grow and not just survive in the world dominated by chains) having crappy service should be suicidal. Let me address the lady who provided the "customer service" to my wife. But firstly, the dialog (shortened and to memory): - Hey, I bought items from you. Can I return to the store in Palo Alto or return online (we bought stuff online)? - What would you like to return? - Blah-blah-blah ***an item, which colour was different on the site compared to what we've got and a clothing item with a defect*** - [Interrupting]: I didn't ask why you are returning, I asked what. I don't need to know the reasons. ***Hmm... really? Why not?!*** - I want to return blah - Yes, you can exchange in store - Can I have a refund? - When did you buy the items? - I received them today - [Interrupting] I didn't ask when you received them, I asked when you bought them? [Took the slip, checked the date] - I bought them on [DATE]th - [Irritated] Of this month or last month? ***We are based in South Bay so if we bought it last month, then they have a delivery problem, but ok*** - This month. Well, you get the idea. Was she a disgruntled lawyer practicing cross-examination techniques? Because technically she was spot on, I'll give her that :) Dear "customer service" lady. While people on this site leave 1* review for less of an "offence", I would like to tell you that the way you spoke to my wife deserved you a one star. Your tone, you ability to construct a sentence in a polite and welcoming manner, your desire to help, your desire for customer to return. All that deserved one star. Today you were unprofessional and did your job poorly. Today you were not good at your job and did not deserve a pat on the back and a cheerful "Well done!". You messed up a simple request which customer service reps from all over the world deal with daily. And to the manager of this customer "service" lady and to the CEO of Sprout San Francisco: your customer service representatives are the face of your company. They also reflect you. They send a message to the world of how professional you are and how much you care about your customers being satisfied. Your customer service reps send a message to the people who pay your salary. I'm addicted to Sprout. It's my new favorite store when I'm strolling in the Marina. They have everything and more for the nouveau mom with money to burn. Mind you, this is not a bargain basement type of establishment, which is a problem for penny pinchers like me. But it's fun to explore the organic baby clothes that will fit for two weeks yet cost more than my entire outfit. I love the fancy cribs that cost more than my first car did...by a LOT. They also have strollers, baby food, snacks, books, blankets, wraps and carriers. It's a Babies-R-Us wrapped in a Prada shell. The store is very considerate about families with young tots, which is a huge bonus when you're with a rambunctious 1 1/2 year old who has tired of shopping with mom. The playroom is a definite draw, as long as you have time to monitor your child...or have a fabulous husband to do it while you shop. In addition, they hold workshops for kids and adults alike...check their website for deets. They also offer story time at 4:00, and a changing room for wet and muddy bottoms, complete with diapers. This is a swanky place for a swanky baby. I'm not sure we qualify, but we will definitely be taking advantage of this fabulous store again. read more

I walked in here today with my daughter planning to get a little something for my kids, intentionally wanting to support a local business. I asked the saleswoman a couple questions about their strollers and car seats, since they market themselves as being up to date on the latest non-toxic and healthiest products for babies and kids. I was hoping they could teach me something new, and instead, the salesperson proved to not only be misinformed on some facts, but also shamelessly defensive, harsh, and rude. I was embarrassed for her, the way she was just dropping names and terms to sound like she knew her stuff. I was disappointed when I tried to give her information on the new research on fluorinated chemicals (carcinogenic), which some of their products contain, and she completely barked at me and told me I was wrong because they "get everything tested at Duke University and everything comes back free of chemicals." Uhhh, that program specifically tests flame retardants, and furthermore, they only test for a few *known* harmful flame retardants and not all that are used, especially the newly developed ones. Long story short, she didn't want to hear it, which is sad, because she is supposed to help customers choose the healthiest products for their children. This is children's HEALTH we're talking about here. I realize this place might spark curiosity about non-toxic kid stuff for many people, but they certainly shouldn't assume everyone who walks in is ignorant to these issues. I have done my homework and then some, and if the staff here are not open to new information that supports their mission, then they shouldn't be considered qualified to work there. If the owner is reading this, you might want to train your staff to be open-minded in conversations about the toxicity of children's products, especially if there's new research mentioned or information about brands and their disclosures. If you're a parent hoping to depend on this company to make healthy choices for you, I think you should reconsider. Further, I saw many products in their store that are very questionable--confident conclusions I've made through exhaustive research and communication (in writing) with manufacturers. In the end, it's up to us to be conscious consumers and not be so naive to trust a store to replace our due diligence. read more

I'm sort of torn about the rating I should give this place. I'm not a mother and I don't shop at baby stores often and only when giving a gift so this is purely from the prospective of a single childless woman. The store is absolutely inviting from the outside and it certainly does draw you in but once you're inside, it's pretty much like every other kiddie boutique but with kind of a "Marina" attitude. I walked in one early morning looking for the perfect gift for a super fab girlfriend of mine who is expecting her first child. She had a jungle theme with green and brown as her main colors so that in mind, I browsed through the clothes, shoes, and accessories trying to stay within a practical budget and yet at the same time, not walk out with $30 eco friendly bamboo baby booties. Having kids is more expensive than I thought. I agree with the other reviewers when they note that items are more expensive compared to other retailers (boutiques and Babys R Us etc.) and a fair amount of the items for sale are not neatly stacked, organized or folded. I would think that a store at 10 a.m. with no customers in it would look immaculate and yet it looked like a half assed effort wasn't even put into maintaining the outward appearance. For a $75 swaddler, I'd want a beautiful display and gracious service to excuse the disheveled appearance. Speaking of service, there is none to speak of. Now, I realize having a child would probably draw more attention to me but I had spent a good 15 minutes looking for a jungle theme gift and never once did someone say "hello" or offer help. Rather, the two clerks were busy talking about how tired they were and how they wanted coffee. I don't see why there are two people at that hour anyhow but maybe they're there to keep each other amused as it was blatantly clear they weren't there to help anyone else. I'd skip this place next time I'm looking for a special gift and head up to Lola of North Beach for more personal gifts and service next time. read more

I can honestly say that I have never been more underwhelmed or disappointed by a customer service and shopping experience that I have been in working with Sprout on several items of furniture (including crib and changing table) for our baby's nursery and his stroller/ other key baby gear. Sprout truly turned what should presumably be one of the most exciting and fun shopping experiences into a chaotic, completely disorganized and frustrating mess. Busy San Francisco parents and parents to-be - there are so many great baby boutiques and wonderful resources in the bay area for adorable items and great, eco-friendly and contemporary nursery furniture, and baby gear. You can do way better than shopping and ordering from here. Right Start in Laurel Village, Giggle on Chestnut or Natural Resources in the Mission are places to start and I only wish I had stopped in there first. I am sure Sprout is great for foot traffic (central on Union) and picking up a cute shower present but I can assure you that they do not take good care of their customers - if you are busy parents willing to pay extra for quality if it comes with the peace of mind of great customer service and convenience you should absolutely invest elsewhere. I can't un-recommend our experience enough! I (like most people I am sure!) believe that shopping for expectant parents should be as stress free and fun as possible. I am not a negative or critical person and don't want to sound like this is unsubstantiated so details below if interested. Thanks! We paid in full for all our items the day we ordered everything. Our furniture arrived over a month late (we ordered it 3 months early and it arrived 2 days in advance of our due date) We were also delivered somebody else's crib initially and had to pick up our stroller 3 different times from the store because the sales people couldn't keep track of what components of the stroller were actually in stock. The sales girls and the SF store manager are completely clueless and nothing in terms of the communication with customers is centralized so there is never a record of what you discuss and no one is on the same page. It took me a week to get a response for a request for a tracking number. When our furniture did arrive, a large chunk was missing from the changing table. Literally the worst customer service ever. I felt profiled when I walked in. I asked specifically for cotton baby boys pants and the lady snapped at me and said I can look myself it's all there. Seriously?!?! The worst thing about it was I independently walked into a Town and Country Palo Alto Sprout without knowing it was the same company and was met with literally the same treatment. Two ladies worked at the counter and didn't get out of their seats at all when I asked them where the boys clothing were at. They remarked that everything was mixed in and that I should just look myself. I felt treated so similarly that I looked up where I went in SF and realized it was the same company. How do the owners train their employees?!? I'm sorry, but if you're going to charge $50 or more for a pair of baby pants, you'd think that the customer service would be phenomenal. read more

The people at Sprout are extremely nice, helpful and just plain awesome. They have a ton of great clothing, furniture and toys for kids of all ages--and the organic stamp is very nice to see. I picked up a glider/chair there recently which was exactly the same price as you'd see on Amazon--so no major markup that you'd expect from a small independent store trying to make it in SF. The only warning is that some of their clothing is very pricey. But, some of it is rare and some of it is high-end so it is what it is. read more

After attending their FUN GRAND OPENING Party of their new Mill Valley store- I decided that I should write a review. I have been shopping at Sprout SF for years. I love their selection of green toys, wooden cars and organic children's clothing. They make great gifts! I also have brought some of their toys for the playspace we have at our SF children's enrichment center. My company offers classes at their SF store on Union Street and now is offering classes at their new Mill Valley location. We have had such a great experience working with Sprout and their team of staff over the past couple years. They are always so warm, helpful and knowledgeable. Being in the industry I can say I truly admire, love and respect how much Sprout supports other local businesses and the community. We have created partnerships with so many local companies because they are always going above and beyond to make sure that parents, educators and service providers connect. They are a drop off location for a wonderful local company called Fresh Baby Bites. They offer a wonderful selection of classes and workshops for children and parents including Baby Sign Language with Touch of Blue Sky (who are simply the BEST in the industry). They offer CPR Certification along with dozens of other educational classes and workshops for parents and nannies. They have a fun selection of weekly classes for children including music, dance, storytime and yoga classes. Sprout also host lots of fun events throughout the year many of them free to families in the community. Once a year we hold a raffle and I am always surprised by the generous donation that Sprout makes year after year! Thank you Sprout! I also just recently learned about their involvement with The Breast Cancer Fund, The Environmental Working Group and The Children's Environmental Health Fund! All amazing organizations that you can donate to right on their website. Sprout is not just a store- it is a destination! A place that supports the environment and small local businesses! It is a company that gives back to the community and really cares about the families that live in it! I am newly obsessed with this store, which is easily now my favorite baby boutique in the city. The premise of the store is excellent, and if you're wiling to pay more for organic, fair trade goods, you certainly won't find a more attractive selection elsewhere. Everything feels so soft - just as it should for a baby - lots of bamboo fabrics. The designs are so unique, but still very practical. And there is a ton to choose from. I actually went back into the store 10 seconds after leaving with a bag full of goodies, because I was distracted by some things in the window I hadn't noticed when I was in there - and I bought yet even more! It's worth noting, too, that there is a decent range of prices here - $14 pants alongside $70 rompers. The space is beautiful - bright, spacious and organized. There is a large, precious play area for children, and a secluded nursing area in the back of the store near a convenient, private changing and weighing station. They ofter story time for children, yoga and pilates for moms and moms-to-be, music hour...you name it. It's so much more than JUST a place to shop. I didn't have any problems with the service when I was there. Both staffers greeted me politely, offered me help finding anything I needed, held on to items while I browsed - and didn't look at me sideways when I exchanged a couple of things for new things I liked better approximately 10 minutes after making the original purchase. And while I can see where reviewer Burrito M. is coming from, I do think the owners of this store have nothing but the best of intentions and really do want to provide a safer, more earth-friendly product for children. I overheard one of the saleswomen saying that they didn't have any blocks because they hadn't found any organic ones yet to stock. This suggests that they take their mission seriously. And to be fair, the store promises organic goods, not local goods - and those two things are not mutually exclusive. I definitely will return - thrilled by this place! read more

Nor did they offer to help me with anything, both times. I was going to buy a skip hop mat but decided to spend my money else where. Don't think I will come back again. I asked them to show me how to take a car seat out of its base and 1) she couldn't do it. Maybe if they are going to sell a product, they should know how to use it. It's a pretty important feature to know how to take the car seat out of its base. 2) It took her forever while she looked online instead of just asking the other person at the store, whom she "thinks" knows how to take it out. After standing there for 10 minutes, trying to do it on my own, I finally just said... well see ya. Overall, they seem pretty lame on their product knowledge and their willingness to help their customers. For a store that sells car seats for $300, maybe they should do some training or hire better people. read more

Pretty good selection of things for babies and kids. I dont have kids (hooray!) but a lot of my friends do and now my sister is a brand new mom so that means I must go into children's stores more often than I would prefer, which is never if I had my way... This place is better than the other baby boutiques in the area. The girls are friendly enough at the end of the transaction. I've gotten so used to shopping off Amazon and Etsy that I forgot about the novelty of going into a store and touching and feeling the quality of items. I needed a gift for my sister who has a toddler and is expecting. The store was being safe by allowing limited people in the store at a time. The selection was amazing. Was it expensive? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes! I felt good supporting a local business, the selection was large and varied, the service was exceptional, the quality was awesome. I was there last month, when I was about 6 mo. along. I am by no means affluent, and just to make it clear to the sales staff that I likely not going to buy anything that day, I even told them that I just noticed their store and needed to kill some time before a hair appointment - YET, despite all of this, the staff were still extremely nice, helpful, and pleasant. The selection is almost entirely all natural & organic, so if that's important to you, or to someone you're shopping for, then this is THE place. The only other place that comes close is Organic Grace, and they are in Eureka, so you have to order online and hope for the best. They actually have cribs out, fully assembled, for you to view and they were surprisingly affordable. If having an all-wood, really pretty crib, that's not mass-produced, is something that you're willing to invest in, take a look here. The only reason we venture to the Marina and Union Street is for baby items. Otherwise it is a dead zone for us, but now that Sprout is there, we may make the journey more often. The clothes were my focus on this trip and what I immediately noticed and greatly appreciated was the quality, color and design of the clothes. My son does not need to confirm his almost 5 months of masculinity via his clothing. Greens and yellows are just fine--not that a blue outfit does not bring out the lovely hues of his eyes--he just doesn't need his entire wardrobe made up of BLUE, BLUE, BLUE. The prices are not cheap, but for quality and selection, I will indulge. Check it out and see if you agree. read more
