This visiting gator alum wanted to try out some of the new places in Gainesville particularly around Celebration Point. Pros: I liked the vibe at Spurrier Grill and was impressed by the many vegetarian options like the roasted head of cauliflower, eggplant fritters and brazillian cheese bread for appetizers, or the veggie burger, sweet corn ravioli or the eggplant rollantini for entrees. The house salad's crispy chickpeas did not disppoint and it was paired well with a tangy white balsamic vinaigrette- super refreshing and light for the hot weather. CONS: All of the food was fine but could have had a bit more flavor. I felt the brocolini was a bit thick ans flavorless. My husband, who ordered the ravioli, felt it was a bit too sweet even though the menu mentioned a savory cream sauce to balance the sweetness of the corn. read more

We had a nice experience here and plan to be back in the future for some occasion I'm sure. Service was great albeit for one slight omission but still overall really good. We tried a lot of things! Cocktails - Lychee martini and sangria 9/10 Apps- rolls, calamari, burrata -The cheesy rolls are so yummy! Worth the charge. Comes with an order of 6 small rolls -Calamari was delicious. Warning that the red fried peppers are SPICY but they don't rub off any heat on the calamari if that would deter you. -Burrata was creamy and well paired with peaches and heirloom tomatoes. Only complaint is maybe not enough crostini for the amount. Entrees - shrimp and grits and a ribeye steak. Steak was good but a little overdone. Not bad enough to have them redo though. Mac n cheese was okay but not my favorite. My bf liked it though. Now those shrimp and grits are fantastic!! I loved how cheesy the grits are. The portion was a good size but could've used some more shrimp for the price. Desserts- bread pudding and the sticky toffee pudding. Yes, yes, YES!!! Both were soooo good. Not many places here do a sticky toffee so I had to have it and it did not disappoint. Here was our only slip up. Thus far our server had disclosed every upcharge except when we ordered dessert. She asked if we wanted ice cream with the bread pudding, which obviously was a yes. We order bread pudding everywhere. We are warm dessert people. Usually ice cream comes with it... well it ended up being an $8 side of ice cream. That was not worth it. For the price of everything else that should not be that much, $3 AT MOST. We got bamboozled on that. No disclosure by the waitress. Ambiance is interesting. The memorabilia is really cool. I love the modern and art deco vibes from the decor. My only wish is that it wasn't so bright lol. This is not somewhere with a sultry date night ambiance especially with how many kids are running around. That puts this place's situational role in an awkward spot for me because the prices and menu aren't everyday eats but there are better date night atmospheres at that price point. read more

This place is so good! The food and the service was great. We sat in the room with all the trophy's and it was like eating in church or a museum, people just slowly walking by admiring everything. The short rib risotto was incredible, the seafood pasta was a unique and delicious dish, and the steak was perfect. Our party of four ended up sharing a lot and everyone had something good to say about their meal. The drinks were unique and amazing. Our waitress did a fantastic job answering our questions and making our experience even better. Also, I can say this as a person who is an FSU Fan. GO NOLES!!! read more

The food was a solid 4 star. Our burgers and fries were good and filling, but maybe not 5 star level. However, the restaurant is decorated very well and is very bright and clean. There is tons of cool football memorabilia here too and lots of cool details about Spurrier's wife and career. The staff were all friendly helpful, and prices are reasonable- but more expensive than the average "college kid" hangout. It was busy when we went too; make sure to make a reservation! The chocolate chip cookies (his wife, Jerri's, secret recipe) for dessert were really good too. Overall, strong 4 star food with a 5 star atmosphere. My mom and I came here on a trip to Gainesville and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is located in a mall area with plenty of parking and the interior is very nice. The memorabilia was super interesting and the place had a great college town atmosphere. Our server was very nice and attentive and everything came out pretty quickly. I got the chicken with mashed potatoes and it was delicious, a simple meal done well, and very comforting. My mom got the steak and enjoyed it as well. I can't believe I got to have an incredible meal AND meet Dan Mullen! Went there for my anniversary and i'm so thankful I did. My boyfriend went there for the building of the place and I wanted to surprise him so he could see it when it was complete. Everyone working was extremely nice and the service was exceptional. They brought us some wine to cheers to when we sat down for the special occasion, but when we went to order drinks they asked for our ID's. I thought it was a bit funny since they had already served us drinks. Nonetheless, I ordered the Spurrier's Sparkling Sangria and my boyfriend got the NY sour. YUM!! They were delicious. When sitting down they offer you the cheese rolls which are not complementary but definitely worth getting as a quick snack. The only thing I wish they did was add some sort of sauce on the side of the cheese rolls. We split the Truffle short rib appetizer and it was probably my favorite thing of the night. I love truffles so if you like the flavoring of it in oils, it's a must have. I ordered the seafood pasta for dinner and my boyfriend got the mushroom risotto short rib dinner (he just couldn't get enough!). My pasta had a good amount of seafood in it, which I was delighted to see since most places barely put seafood in seafood plates. My boyfriends dish was incredible and it left him wanting more although he was so full. We kept sharing our plates because both were nothing less than amazing and packed with flavor. Lastly, we had to get dessert because my boyfriend says no good meal is complete without one. We got the homemade cookies with their homemade ice cream. WOW! These were so good. I was so full but I couldn't help but eat some. Overall, the experience was amazing, atmosphere was electric, and I would recommend everyone to come here. I will definitely be back. The various separate seating areas and multiple bars keep it cozy and exclusive feeling but it's open and close enough to have a lively atmosphere. There's a private area that can be closed off as well. The drinks were excellent. They even serve Buffalo Trace for my husband's Old Fashioned. I ordered a couple of their signature cocktails and they were excellent. I would recommend the punch one with tequila (sounds gross but it is tasty). Food was pretty good. We had a short rib crostini starter, burger and the chicken. All were fairly tasty, no complaints. I would say stick to the medium priced items, as you likely won't be wowed by the cuisine. Where to start? We arrived slightly prior to opening hour, at 4:00 pm doors were opened promptly and we were greeted with a smile. Lively atmosphere, beautiful decor and a bar that has no rival. Upon being seated we were met with a server assistant (unfortunately I can't remember his name but he was very attentive) who filled our water glasses and asked us if we had any questions before our server arrived. Our server, Yasmin K., arrived and what a delight she was!! In a day when customer service is not the standard in most places, she blew us away with her knowledge of the menu and with her kindness and sweet spirit. We asked so many questions because we usually don't eat from Billboard sign suggestions, that's how we found Spurriers. She was gracious to answer. My husband and I wanted to share an entree because we are traveling and didn't want to have food leftover. She gave us her professional suggestion based on the size of entrees. For a starter we ordered the Eggplant Fritters - that's a must, 4 slices with delicious basil, cheese and marinara sauce. The tomahawk pork chop was a home run (if you're a Braves fan ) ! Don't forget the chimichurri to go with the pork chop, (it's an extra charge but you'll thank me) When asked about the Mac n Cheese, Yasmin was an absolute YES! Don't forget to take a look at all the football memorabilia. The Swamp Head Brewing- Big Nose IPA was 10/10!! The only bad thing we could say is that it's 300 miles from our home. Stopped in here during our roadtrip. At first we were disappointed that we couldn't order off the menu since they were only serving brunch. Once we tried the brunch we forgot about our disappointment. We enjoyed the shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles. We LOVED the banana fosters French toast casserole! What a great experience we had at this restaurant! We went to Spurrier's on our last night in Gainesville, and it was an incredible way to end the trip. The man who came and poured our water for us was lovely, and soon after, we met our waitress, Ava, who was amazing!!! We started with a number of appetizers, which were all delicious. One of the appetizers that we ordered were the shishito peppers, which took a very long time to come out. After a bit, Ava brought us three more starters on the house (she even modified one of them for one of the people in my party because she didn't like the oil that typically came on it) and explained that there was a large party and their orders were rang in right before the peppers and thoroughly apologized. In case anyone was curious, the peppers did end up eventually coming out and were delicious. Our entrees and sides came out pretty quickly after the shishito peppers and they were all great. I split the short rib & mushroom risotto and the shrimp & grits with another member of my party. These are their two most popular items and it was easy to see why! The rest of the table got the veggie burger and the 6 ounce filet, which they both spoke highly of. We got the broccolini and the miso Brussels sprouts as sides, the broccolini was decent but the Brussels sprouts were phenomenal! Then, we were offered a free dessert because of the wait for the peppers. We got the dark chocolate mousse which was a big hit as well and ended the evening very nicely! Ava was incredible - she went above and beyond for us while we were waiting for our peppers and took care of so much for us, which was completely unnecessary but extremely appreciated! She even gave us a list of recommendations for hangout spots and other restaurants in Gainesville for the next time we are in town. I have lived in Gainesville for approximately four years and I've been to Spurrier's often over the course of my time here. I want to first say that the food is absolutely phenomenal. Everything I have tried has been cooked to perfection and with love. I regret to say that my most recent visit was underwhelming to say the least. I will admit that we came with a large party due to a friend having recently defended her dissertation. However, the restaurant was not overly busy and yet out waitress took excess time getting drinks and checking in. She took so long with drink orders that a member of our party canceled the order, only to find out that it was never actually put in in the first place. Our server mixed up the checks of two people twice, causing another extensive wait time. After further reflection, this is typically what I experience at this establishment. While I would like to blame my server, this is clearly a top down issue. Please use caution when dining here. read more

The table got the Chicken Marsala, Shrimp & Grits, Tomahawk Porkchop. Everything was really good, but the Porkchop was one of the best I've had. For the sides we had the carrots, grits, and Mac n cheese. The glazed carrots and grits were excellent. But the Mac n Cheese was a different level, and shouldn't be skipped. Finished with the bread pudding, which was really good. Service was very attentive, and really helpful. Went to have dinner the night. Of august tenth i was in town because my wife was in the hospital. Having back surgery decided to go to spurrier's grill because I've heard good things about it now. During the course of the day, I spent most of it at the hospital. So I really wasn't dressed to go to a restaurant when I arrived there. The bartenders immediately. Demanded, if I was going to be ordering food in which I replied that I was, I ordered a Caesar salad, small, 8 oz, filet, medium-rare, and some macaroni and cheese, the Caesar salad. It was good. The steak looked good at first, but was incredibly well done. So I returned it When I got my second steak, it looked like someone had beat it with a hammer and did not resemble anything. Looking like a filet, I figured these guys just felt that I wasn't appropriately dressed for their establishment and decided to brush me off as soon as possible. But you have to understand I spent the day in the hospital with my wife. read more

Our party of 4 started with 2 appetizers. grilled peach and heirloom tomato and burrata wth crushed pistachios served on a grilled baguette. Hints of smoke from the grilled peach and baguette paired well the acidity of the heirloom tomato and burrata cheese. Our 2nd appetizer was the Spinach Artichoke Dip . Artichoke & spinach in parmesan reggiano fondue served with fresh made blue corn tortilla chips. The flavors of the appetizer worked well and paired well with our glasses of white wine. Entrees The Chicken Marsala, chicken breast with a blend of cremini, shiitake and oyster mushrooms in a traditional marsala suave, served with mashed potatoes. The earthiness of the mushrooms and Marsala worked well wth the mashed potatoes. Slow-braised beef short ribs, served with a wild mushroom risotto finished with beef demi-glace was an excellent choice. Tender fall off the bone beef, served over the creamy risotto. Pan-seared Macadamia-Encrusted mahi, finished with a lemon citrus beurre blanc, lobster cognac sauce.served with a side of grilled asparagus. The richness of the Mac nuts brightened by the acidity of the lemon beurre Blanc Spurrier's Bacon Cheese Burger 16 Signature short rib, brisket and chuck blend patty, bacon, white cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion on a brioche bun. Relatively new on the food scene in Gainesville, Spurrier's Gridiron Grill is located in Celebration Pointe. So before anything else, you know it's going to be expensive. I could care less about all the UF football memorabilia inside but the actual Spurrier's building is nice. There's seating on the roof, inside, and outside. I came with a group of work colleagues and we sat outside. We were a large group so our service was impressive, handled by one young gentlemen who was very attentive. The drinks were about average in cost and flavor. I went with the Harvest Mule, which interestingly added orange juice in with the classic ginger beer. The food menu is a mixture of expensive to over-priced to wildly outrageous, so I opted to only order the Brazilian cheesy rolls. These rolls contained mozzarella, fontina, and parmesan cheeses and were warm out of the oven. If you're looking for the ultimate date night or a place to take a candidate you're trying to woo into joining your firm, check out Spurrier's. Otherwise, this restaurant that celebrates the classic American game of football is not really in the budget for the typical American. read more

I don't hand out 5's easily and as an FSU alumna this review is even harder for me. However, this is best meal my husband and I have had while dining out in, possibly years. We were seated promptly on a Thursday night that was still quite crowded. Melody I think was our waitress and she was great! The entire wait staff was phenomenal in fact and we had not one, but two managers check on our satisfaction with our dining experience. The cheesy rolls and tomato bisque started off our meal. Both were quite good. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his blackened redfish entree almost as much as I enjoyed the sweet corn ravioli. They melted in my mouth and were packed with flavor! We ordered the bread pudding and chocolate chip cookies to go! Best choco chips and bread pudding ever IMO. The atmosphere was pretty cool as well. I didn't know who Steve Spurrier was when I chose this place to eat, but I do now and his establishment is AWESOME! read more

Wow! That was a great experience. From the moment we sat, Jim took great care of us. He suggested the Tuna Tar Tar appetizer, which we got and enjoyed. For entrees, I got the Seafood pasta and it was fantastic. The squid ink noodles gave a saltiness that complimented the seafood perfectly. It had great flavor. Hubby got the short ribs and mushroom risotto which he thoroughly enjoyed. He said the meat was perfectly cooked and pot-roast tender and paired greatly with the risotto.
