Pretty good food. wish i could give it 4.5 stars, because it's almost perfect for the kind of place that it is their chicken is really good! their Greek potatoes are like a surprise- you never know: if they are good that day - they are really good. but if not they are either partly raw, or too blan, or too oily. it's about 50/50... their gyros are good, just wish they didn't try to save money by serving EVERYTHING. because when you get those dry pieces in there... yick... ruins the gyro. i am not sure about the spelling, but their sulvaki (the skewers) are also pretty good. the staff is almost always great. a few people that have been there for years give it that local homey feel... including the one lady who is.. ahm... a bit less than delicate (if it wasn't for their chicken, not sure i'd be back BECAUSE of her. but we just laugh it off and come back for the food) read more

Delicious. I have had the greek chicken salad and its great. I have also had the the half chicken dinner with the salad and once with the potatoes. I usually get food from here and the service is usually barable, but today it was horrific I had to just leave. The culprit was the older heavy-set woman with blonde unkempt hair and glasses. As I entered the establishment I was not greeted, but had to greet the worker behind the counter with a pleasent smile and a hello. I received a cold "hi"... As I was perusing the menu I asked a simple question about the chicken on display and I recieved a sarcastic rude response. She acted as if I was bothering her and actually making her work, although all she has to do day in and day out is take orders from customers. She has probably been doing this for the past 20 plus years. So I guess she would become a shrewd woman. Well Squabs just lost a valued customer for life. Good stuff. Squab's menu is pretty versatile. I would say their featured items are their broasted chicken, gyros, and greek salads. All are really good. Right now, I find their Athenian Chicken sandwich really tasty. It's well marinated grilled chicken, feta cheese, lettuce on a greek pita. Sooo good! Honestly, any of their chicken items are really well done. I recommend ordering ahead because they get pretty busy around lunchtime. They also sell some of the tastiest greek potatoes I've ever tasted. I have no doubt you'll find something that tickles your pickle on Squab's menu. read more

This local restaurant has got to be one of my favorites. It's a great place to eat in general and especially in comparison to all of the many fast food chains down Mannheim. It's REAL food, it taste delicious, and the serving sizes are abundant. It's evident that many people enjoy this place for the parking lot is consistently packed with cars all the time. It satisfies the taste buds of all different types of people whether it's the gyros or beef for the meat eaters or the pastas for the carb-lovers or the Greek salad for the people who prefer vegetables. No matter what you prefer, I'm almost certain that you will find something to satisfy your hunger at Squabs. Amazing Greek (baked) Chicken-Half Greek Chicken Plate I don't think I've ever had better baked chicken anywhere (and I'm old so I've tried many). The portions (salad, fries, broasted potatoes, bread, rice, etc.) are pretty huge too; so either skip the meal before or plan to take half of it home. I've also tried the gyros and accidentally got the broasted chicken once. They were both good but, honestly, the 1/2 Greek chicken is what I always get now because, well, it's so good it's almost like they inject it with crack or something. Squabs is a great name for a restaurant. It might mean something, my guess is not, but how fun is it to say "SQQQUUUAAAAABBBS"...I digress. Hit up Squabs for lunch with some coworkers. Kind of a diner-y place where you have to make decisions fast, order, and get out of the damn way and find a table. Hard to satisfy a vegetarian (me) here, but I just wanted a Greek salad...and a Greek salad is what I got. About 4x the size I thought it would be, based on the price and the rest of the civilized world. That being said, I pretty much devoured it...despite it's simplicity, the dressing was so delicious and the feta cheese was just the right amount. Coworkers for gyros and said they were pretty damn tasty. The fries that I kept stealing off my colleague's plate were sooooo good - hand cut and perfectly fried - and so so good when dipped in tzikiki (sp?) sauce. Need to go here again. The gyro wasn't bad (nothing special); priced similar to others in the area -- $6.21 with tax. Workers' attitudes are as noted on previous posts. Could be partly the fault of the owners -- they won't allow you to use a charge card for purchases below $7, so it makes it a hassle for both the workers and customers. The premises are on par with the neighborhood -- kind of old, tried & dirty. Not sure if the people working there lose interest in their appearance from where they work or if people with this appearance are the only ones who want to work there. read more

If you're looking for great Gyros in the burbs, this is the place to go. They have very good food and the service is always friendly and helpful. While their gyros are the best, their fries are even better. They are hand cut and fresh. If you're in the burbs looking for some good Greek food, give this place a try. No doubt the food is good here. They have great gyros, great ribs and a bunch of other awesome food. But the reason I'm writing this review is because of the horrible costumer service. The cashiers are always rude they can be seen rolling their eyes at customer, never greet people who come in and just plain out seem bothered when spoken too. The food is good but not always worth the negative interaction. Still love coming to this place, just thought it would be fair to mention that service is getting better here. When you are hungry in a strange city, finding good food can be hard. While there are plenty of fast-food places to tempt your palate with first-class marketing and third-class food, if you are looking for something real that isn't covered in batter, dipped in boiling fat or smothered in salt or sugar, your options are limited. We stumbled into this place, only a few miles south of Chicago's O'Hare airport, purely by accident. A family-run restaurant, the appearance and decor are "lived-in". If you are looking for good home-cooked food, this is a welcome change from the mass-produced, mass-marketed stuff out there. My personal favorite is the "Greek Plate Dinner" -- half a chicken on a bed of rice with a piece of pressed, toasted flatbread. Every thing I've ordered from here has been great. I usually don't like Greek potatoes, but these are great. I usually get the 1/2 Greek chicken. Lots of food for a great price. I do love this place. But I will have to agree with others. The service just sucks. How one can screw up a cheesy rib eye and a cheesy beef is beyond me. If you hate your job so much....quit. That being said. The food here is great. Tasty and inexpensive, but they will nickel and dime you for extras. I tried this place about a year ago, little pricey for sub-par food. I decided today to maybe give them another try. I walked in to look at the menu then an older blonde lady yelled "what do you want?" - so i continued on to order. 2 gyros plates - and a large side of broasted potatoes. I swear the look she gave me could've killed someone or was speaking a different language. I figured out why--it takes 17 mins to make the potatoes. I then asked to her to just cancel the order. I tried this place for the first time today and it was outstanding! I walked in to place a pick up order for a Greek chicken salad. The last at the register was very friendly and informed me that they are now on grub hub and DoorDash with delivery. I was pleased to hear that I can now deliver! The inside of this place was very clean and modern. When I got home and opened the bag, they had provided utensils and napkins which is very important. I opened the plastic salad box and was very pleased with how well put the salad was. The grilled chicken was great quality and a very good amount as well. After four years that I haven't been in this place, the broasted chicken and Greek chicken are always the best for my palettes. When you order it's plate it comes with garlic breads , salad and rice. They satisfied my cravings. I think I'll get them to cater at my wedding. read more

I have been a loyal customer for years. Just two weeks ago I bought Gyros and although they have gone up in price ($7.25), you still got alot of Gyros for the money, you could actually make two meals out of one, especially if you got a large fries. I purchased Gyros on Sunday and they were literally HALF THE SIZE! I was SHOCKED. Both the size of Pita bread and the amount of Gyros Meat was SIGNIFICANTLY SMALLER. In my opinion, it is no longer a good deal and I will not buy Gyros from Squabs again, especially after this "Bait and Switch". I suppose if you have never gotten Gyros here before you wouldn't know, but if you have then prepare to be DISAPPOINTED. All I can say is "Buyer Beware" - Ask them to show you the size before you buy. To be honest they should have a sign displayed that says "New Much Smaller Size at the Same Price". read more

This is a solid dining choice and the suvlaki I had was great. My friend did not have a similar experience but my lunch was terrific. He had the Italian Beef and has also tried their "best ever" broasted chicken and said that both were terrible. I did try a bit of his Italian Beef sandwich and it was horrible. However, my opinion is that if you know what to order, you should be fine. Given that this is a Greek establishment, why would you try to order non-greek items? The suvlaki was prepared to order and so it takes a bit longer than other items but I was given there sticks of juicy, fatty pork. Some of the pieces were drier than others but you can discard those as the portions are large. I also enjoyed the rice, which is pretty normal stuff but flavorful. I had a great lunch and I'm sure you will too...IF you know what to order. read more

Really great gyros! We just moved to the area im September and we had a craving for a really good gyros and this was the first place to pop up on google search. I got the gyros combo with fries and a drink with extra sauce on the side. The meat is flavorful, pita bread is perfectly warmed up and the tzadziki sauce is nice and thick unlike some places in Chicago that's as thin as water. My husband had the beef sandwich and he recommended telling them not to dip it next time because it was just too soggy. Good food, decent prices, parking lot is my only complaint as it can be a bit tight at times. Definitely will be coming back! read more
