    Hot Big Squid

Super delicious! This cute little stand was continently located right outside of the Japanese village plaza on E 1st St. They have 4 items: scallion pancakes, hot little squid, hot big squid, and bobo chicken. They were having a promotion BOGO of the hot big squid so we decided to order that. The gentleman running the stand was super friendly and everything was made to order. After the squid was finished, he asked us if we wanted to add spicy powder to which we said yes. The squid was super soft and had a mala flavor. Not too sure about their hours or when they're there but would recommend and go again when I come back to little Tokyo!

Was walking around Little Tokyo at night and saw this cart parked out front of the plaza, thought I'll give it a try. Currently running a deal where for $13: two for the price of one, hot big squid. Little squid is $10... so mathwise I just had to for get the big squid. Squids came out on a couple of sturdy bamboo skewers, piping hot as advertised. Appreciate the couple of napkins given, as the squids were dripping with spicy oil and seasonings. I would say the squid is more of a medium size than a big. I wouldn't pay $13 for just one, happy for the deal. They take cash and Zelle, QR code and phone number posted on the side of the cart. No credit cards!

Squidward is the best. Everytime I see his cart outside of Little Tokyo, it brightens our day. The Hot Big Squid is some of the best squid skewers I've ever had and you get 2 for $13! It is quite spicy though so I ask to add a lil bit

Cute old man selling squid made to order so it's fresh! It's spicy but not overwhelming spice. I have to get one anytime I find his cart

The squid skewers are amazing here. Be sure to get them spicy! They are cooked to order, so they are hot and fresh when you eat it.

Was stopping by little tokyo for a pop up store and saw this cute cart! I recognized this place instantly because i remember seeing a tiktok about it like a year ago and never got the chance to see him. But! Today was the day! I asked for spicy and the kick was really nice paired with the squid. SO GOOD!

Chicken skewer on left and squid skewers on right. The chicken hits every time.

Highly recommend. Chicken skewers are super tasty for those who can't handle spice. The big squid is worth it for 2 big squids for $13. Love the old man at this food stall. He's very friendly.

    Food cart motorcycle. Skewers.

Street food on a skewer. It reminded me of Taipei back in the early '90's. Skewers are cooked to order, so it's a little bit of a wait. The food cart is attached to a motorcycle, kind of a cargo max 3-wheeler. Very creative.

The food was so amazing and well seasoned! Ask for mild spice if you don't have the best spice tolerance! The man running the shop was incredibly sweet and accommodating. There was also a sweet lady playing music and both of them were super kind and friendly. The vibe reminded me of late night food markets in Asia and I'm so glad I stopped by!

We got the Big Squid The guy at the stand is very kind Very worth spending on and yummy!

The first time I went on a weekday in the middle of the day, so it was super empty and not the best because nothing was being made fresh- the meats and potatoes were kind of just sitting in bins so although the flavor was there, the cooled down temperatures really affected the taste. HOWEVER, I visited a few more times after that, these times all late at night, which really turned my experience around. I think at those times there were a lot more people and long lines, so everything was being made fresh and it being hot just made the food taste so so much better. I love how the toppings are all self-serve, and the hot potato is my favorite side. Carne asada, lengua, and al pastor are my go-tos. You'll want to add hellaaa green sauce to everything- I could literally drink that stuff straight. Love the big easy parking lot here, I'll mention that I saw a few security people checking all the cars and plates so I wouldn't recommend trying to park here and walk somewhere else!

One of the best al pastor burritos in LA! A friend…read morerecommended it to me and I traveled 19 miles and wasn't disappointed. You could see the freshness of al pastor on their vertical rotating grill and the meat seemed leaner as well. They cut a new batch of al pastor and then they chop it to smaller pieces than you're normally used to seeing and somehow, those smaller pieces preserved all the delicious meat juice inside. The al pastor was very tender, juicy, well-marinated and had the sweet and savory notes in a perfect balance and the guys adding some fresh, ripe pineapple on top was a nice touch! I got served my burrito open-faced, I added the salsa, pickled onion and chopped fresh onions and then sent it back to the crew for the final wrapping. Just a great, tasty burrito that absorbed really well. The quality could really be seen and felt and the $10 price tag was unbeatable. The customer service was very friendly and there is plenty of parking right behind the taco stand on the CVS plaza. Will definitely come again!

I watched a burrito be made right in front of me in a minute and it turned out to be one of the best burittos I've ever had. And it was only $12. I understand now. The added pineapple in the buritto added just enough sweetness. They smash the tortilla into the grill and they also smash the meat to make sure it's hot. The meat has no gristle and it's very soft and flavorful. This is why we live in California. I applaud the taco stands opening up in the same block. The line was intimidating but the festive music only made me hungrier. I am surprised at how friendly the staff can be while they are "at work". I've only seen such positivity at Howlin Rays. Luckily, the line moves much faster. They had a cactus salsa which would have gone great with salsa chips. It's the type of salsa that you get at great mexican restaurants and they just let you choose an unlimited amount of it. I asked for rice and beans in my burrito and they put just the right amount of it, being careful as to not overpower the meat portions. I also appreciate that I can add my own salsa, onions, cilantro, before handing it back to them to wrap it. Sometimes the hype of LA places are blown out of proportion especially with blog posts and social media. But I can vouch for this place. It really is worth it. I will be back for sure.

The place is Alejandra's, and the creation is some of the best quesadillas you can get in LA. Coming up to the stand, you eye the menu and make your order, $8 dollars each or $10 for a dual topping type. There is potentially a bit of a wait due to every meal being freshly made on order, but it is a good and worthwhile wait, the staff, clientele, and food being most hospitable. At your order, purple dough is flattened to a blue corn tortilla, each tortilla freshly pressed and grilled in front of you. You watch it sizzle and rise brown, flip over, and continue its cycle to grow crisp. Topping highlights for me include squash blossoms and pork, which is chicharrones with a surprising crisp and crunch better than almost any other I've had, the ring of each bite echoing autumn leaves crunching under my feet, its condensed jerky flavour hemorrhaging in the still present sweetness of a meat once juicy. The stand provides a salsa bar with red and green sauces available, and other vegatative essentials- onion, cilantro, and pepper- serve as a lush and fresh forestry for the surprisingly substantial spice of the salsa to lick upon; piled upon the mountain of food and flavour, the green and red splatters evoked the Hollywood Hills, the red salsa smokey and particularly burning like the fires of last year. It's an addicting taste well worth the visit and short walk to sit and enjoy the meal in Echo Park. I'm excited to come back and try more ingredients for sure, very likely two or three quesadillas at a time to help expedite the process, as it can't be helped. 6.4/10
