We decided on Squire house for dinner on NYE! They had a special limited menu for the occasion. We decided first on drinks- the Purple mist and The Bozeman. They are as delicious as their descriptions state. The Bozeman is definitely a drinkers drink. Looking for fruity - try the Purple mist, it was strong but smooth. Appetizers - we wanted to try the Calamari and side salad. A little after our order was placed, we were told the Calamari was no longer available. Instead, we tried the Mac and cheese. Got a side size portion vs. full. It did not come with bacon. We later learned that only full size came with bacon. Mains- decided on the Elk Bolognese and the Scallops with mushroom risotto Our superstar of a waitress was able to bring some bacon to crumble on the Mac! Mac was good but needed a little salt. We would always rather add it than a dish be too salty. Side salad and dressing were delicious! Elk Bolognese was flavorful and hearty. Scallops and risotto was perfect for a lighter appetite. Perfect amount of food. Scallops were perfectly cooked. Risotto was creamy and cheese perfectly sprinkled. We were greeted at our table while dining and thanked for coming in. We found ourselves downtown for Ladies Night last November (I know, it's been a bit) and the Squire House is where you start for the Kenyon Noble raffle (I really wanted that outdoor furniture package). With time to kill and having seen everything there was to see, we decided to grab a bite at Squire House. The burgers were great, as were the sides (broccolini and brussels) but what you *REALLY* need to know about are the beignets. Served with 2 dipping sauces... chocolate and *something else*. The second, which really doesn't matter when chocolate is included. OH! And the Old Fashioned. Get the Old Fashioned! The staff is so kind and friendly. Went here a few months ago and it was AWFUL!!! I hate writing bad reviews but I cannot believe this place is still open. I talked to a lot of friends after my experience to find out that bad experiences are very common! Here's what happened in my experience: my boyfriend and I walked in and it took a while for anyone to even seat us. We were there just a couple hours before they closed so they weren't very busy at all. There were about 3-4 other tables. The owner (I assume because he was in ordinary street clothes) sat us. Our waitress was new but very kind and was doing her best. She got us our drinks quickly. We ordered our food and an appetizer, then our waitress came back to tell us that the appetizer was sold out. No problem, we understood. We ordered 2 burgers - 1 elk, 1 normal, both with cheese. After over an hour of waiting for our food, we were visually irritated. The owner came over and asked us if we were too cold. The temperature wasn't the problem. When we finally tried leaving and asking for our tab, the owner said that the waitress didn't put in the order but we knew that was a lie, as she had put in the order when she learned the appetizer was out. The waitress was right there and said she did put in the order. The owner argued and finally ended up comping our meal and giving us our food. I'm a traveler and foodie. Always seeking the best that a city or town has to offer. Not only is Squire House the best restaurant in Bozeman, it might be the best restaurant I've ever eaten in. Upon entry we were greeted by Tanner. We asked if we could give the menu a quick scan as we weren't sure if we'd ultimately stay. The menu boasted salivating options so we were quickly sold. The owner, Michael, wound up seating us and treated us to some great conversation about life in Bozeman and all it offers. He also shared some menu tips and we'd have been remiss to ignore his suggestions! We started by sharing the Brussels Bravas and wow! Those were excellent. They utilized unique flavors instead of relying on the standard bacon trimmings and drippings. They were crispy and just full of bright flavor. It's a great app that won't overfill you. And believe me, you HAVE to save room for the entree. I ordered the scallops w risotto and my friend the salmon. If only I could experience that first bite of scallops a million times more. I know that Montana is steak country, but Michael and his team know how to prepare stellar seafood. This scallop cut like butter. And while they were perhaps the star of the dish, the risotto was just as strong. Prepared to perfection. The fragrant flavors were savored via smell before taste. As if we weren't treated to enough of a five star experience, Michael insisted that we save room for the chocolate pot de creme. I was intimidated by it because it was made with chili flakes, but, intimation quickly turned to delight. The chocolate was sweet but tamed due to the chili. It was a warm flavor, but not spicy. The actual best part though was the house made whipped cream. Cool whip has no home in this kitchen. The service from Tanner was excellent. The service from Michael, the owner, was above and beyond expectations. This man knows no strangers, only friends. I felt like more than a dining patron here. Any place that offers up fare from local game is a must check out. They have jazz going in the background with the Sunday night game on tv, it's a bit quiet and apparently the mussels sell out before the end of the weekend. The menu rotates frequently, the current menu shows the dates Oct 1-31. For me it was a toss up between seared scallops, seared duck (local), or elk bolognese and I opted for the elk since it's hard for me to get. It tasted a bit salty at first, maybe the pecorino or maybe the pappardelle soaked it up but the end result was fantastic, enough so that on my way east I will stop for the seared duck. The green beans were good, but could've used a few more minutes cooking to be a bit softer. My father in law got the elk bolognese - said it was good but he wouldn't get it again. My husband liked the shrimp scampi, but had the same thoughts. I got the carbonara and it was the weirdest taste of sauce I ever had. Checked out Squire House for the first time tonight. After a long day of traveling, we were stoked to find a nice restaurant on the ground floor of the Element Hotel - our go to place to stay when in Bozeman. Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed by several staff, including the proprietor himself. We were offered our pick of where to sit, and then kindly led to a table in a quiet corner of this sleek yet comfortable restaurant. The husband ordered an Old Fashioned, which was easily the best I've ever tasted. Not shockingly, I had some chardonnay. Starters included the crispy Brussels with the sauces on the side (great tip that came from a fellow Yelper - brilliant!). The lemon aioli was fairly tasty but the brava sauce was actually pretty meek - uninspired and lacking flavor, as if it came straight from a can of tomato paste. The only real disappointment in the entire meal, which in itself is the upshot. On the flip side, the blue cheese arancini were my favorite thing by far! They were perfectly prepared and that diavolo marinara packed a potent punch in just the right way. Mmmmm... For our mains, he went with the elk bolognese while I opted for the seared sea scallops over wild mushroom risotto. Both were very rich and delicious. The risotto was just a tad under, but not crunchy. The depth of flavor made up for it, as did the sweet scallops expertly cooked. My one regret was ordering so much that we were too full to order one of their dessert offerings. Next time! We enjoyed our experience here, especially the friendly service. Grad night 2024, family in town from all across the country. Where to start? The "full bar" had no cranberry juice. The elk burger was way over-cooked. They did at least give it another go. The calamari tasted really fishy and was just not good. Two of us ordered Steak Frites... they tried cooking the steaks 1st time, both ordered M Rare. Both came out med- med well. They brought two new steaks and one was nearly raw, the other still over cooked. I applaud them for at least taking the steaks off the bill. One positive... the beignets were delicious! read more

If i could give zero stars I would. We went for Thanksgiving dinner and I had to ask myself multiple times if what I was experiencing was real life. I looked around at other customers for confirmation, and it was certainly reality. Everything seemed fine when we got there. We thought maybe they were just understaffed, but as the night went on it seemed clear to me that 3 or 4 of the staff were under the influence of something-- maybe alcohol maybe drugs. Things took a turn when the waitress spilled a drink on my friend. She seemed pissed and reassured him she'd get a towel for him. Only a towel-- nor apology ever came AND she was like "who spilled? Me?" Our dinner took a long time to be made and served which normally isn't a big deal, but all of the staff besides the bartender and one of the cooks were basically having a melt down. One waitress dropped all of the dishes, many shattering and she just left it all there and started arguing with other staff members. Then our waitress broke wine glasses and other glasses when cleaning up another table. When my friend's food came out, she grabbed a knife for my friend which she set on the table and had blood on it. We let her know that there she may be bleeding and she was like "yeah probably", took the knife and CONTINUED SERVING FOOD. Then mine and my husband's food came and she basically slammed and slid it towards us on the table. I am usually someone with a lot of compassion and empathy for others but I have never seen such unprofessional service nor have I ever been treated so poorly. read more

First off, when our family (2 adults, 2 older children) came in, it was a Friday night around 6pm. There were maybe 4 tables seated in the entire restaurant. We stood at the hostess stand for about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We are a family of foodies so we are not opposed to paying high prices for meals. With that being said, the food was extremely overpriced for the portion and quality that was given. We paid $36 for scallops and risotto. The scallops were tiny, there was maybe 2 tablespoons worth of risotto on the plate and the rest of the plate was covered in large shaving of Parmesan cheese that were inedible. My husband had the beet salad and he said the beets tasted like they were straight from a can. We should have caught the red flag when the table next to us had to send their Oder of French fries back because they were completely burnt! read more

Yikes, hate to be a downer, but the chef should consider this note: Sat down at the bar, ordered the salmon to go so I can grab it and head out. Bartender was super cool, and the drink was great. But then the salmon showed up and I thought it was a mistake because it came in a tiny box that was maybe 3" x 5" in size. I said doesn't this come with some sides and other things for $30? Bartender said he asked the same thing and they said yeah that's it. So I open up the box and my $30 salmon is literally 1" x 4", and that might be a bit generous. The "sides" we're maybe two or three strings of peppers and that was it. Kind of embarrassing honestly. I ate it in maybe three bites and I was done. The bad reviewers must have hit a bad night because I can't say enough good things about this place. First time dining here was on Saturday and from beginning to end, phenomenal. The gentleman that seated us (must be the owner) was very friendly and gave us a couple different seating options, super accommodating. Our server was so friendly and sweet. She went out of her way to find me a wine that I liked and a beer for my date. The FOOD!!! I had the special and I want to say it was short rib, with mashed potatoes, green beans and some kind of glaze...WOW. It was so delicious. I finished every bite. She ran into walls, left all wine glasses in front of the two 18-year-olds, piled dirty dishes on the table next to us, couldn't open champagne. At this point 2 of the 8 arrived. then another 20-30 minutes, then 2 more entrees arrived cold. Those were sent back and returned a bit later, still cold. First off, the bartender and the speciality drinks were fitting of an upscale restaurant..oh and of course the final bill. Everything else was underwhelming from the service to the food. There was only 2 tables in the restaurant, but our server rarely checked in to fill our water or clear our plates. Then there was the highly recommended shrimp scampi, which was a plate full of pasta and 3 shrimp. This no better than a pasta dish from Olive Garden. As for my daughter, they didn't have a child's menu, but the cook said he can make anything. I thought this was ideal until she got the 15 dollar max and cheese...mostly cheese, crème, and butter. She wouldn't eat it since she could not find the pasta. How do places like this stay in business? It must be the college town of Bozeman. Additionally, most of the staff is inexperienced trying to impersonate a high end experience. I regress because we went to blackbird, which was more of a high end experience with a lower price tag then this place. read more

This place is a real treat! The family and I were actually down the street waiting to try a highly recommended sushi restaurant. After waiting for over an hour, our toddler just couldn't wait anymore and neither could we. We quickly ran into the Squire House who welcomed our entire party of 8 in from the 20 degree weather and sat us down immediately. The simple menu was perfect. Not too many options which sometimes causes headaches. The servers were very accommodating, bringing the food out quickly for the kiddos. They just kept making sure we were all comfortable at all times. Finally, the food was amazing. Sure, we were hungry but the food was actually really good, which for me was the Cherry on Top of their awesome customer service. We just finished brunch here and we were ALL very impressed! Beignets to start (with chocolate and fresh whipped cream for dipping) were a hit. Our kiddos split the creme brûlée french toast with bacon and cleaned their plates. My husband had the pork belly Benedict and couldn't have loved it more (he's picky so that means it was REALLY good). I had the short rib hash and it did not disappoint! No grease and so fresh. Except, we ended up waiting 30+ min with 4 parties being sat in front of us (only a few had a reservation), ignored by the "host" who was an older man with clearly no direction in the hosting position. Constantly on his cell phone, several missed calls to the business and chatting with people while the host stand was left empty. Which also was cluttered with papers that looked like they belonged in an office. There were also boxes of Christmas decorations blocking the seating area, which was surprising to me that they'd prioritize decorations over seating... What a great find - yes it's in the Element Hotel but the food, service and staff were amazing. Kierstyn our server was so gracious and worked with my gluten allergy and then Michael the manager was so knowledgeable. I didn't take any pics but I can share that the staff worked with me to make sure I had a gf (gluten free) meal that was scrumptious while my hubby ate traditional foods that had gluten. We had muscles to start with regular bread on the side and they brought me a gf bun so I could dip in the sauce - love it! I had GF risotto with shrimp and it was scrumptious and the hubby had the flatiron streak and frites and the end result was a clean plate! My family and I went for our first time last night . There was a a group of 11 of us. First tof all its really irritating as a parent when you go to a restaurant and there's no changing table I literally had to change my baby on the floor. If you have high chairs to accommodate for a baby then you should have a changing table. Another thing , it took an hour and a half to get our food, and my food came out 10mins after everyone else to where i ate alone and everyone else was done( i ordered the pork chop and others had steak and pasta.. About 35mins for appetizers,my kiss were not happy as I ordered their food with our drinks( as I do anywhere ) atleast the dessert was fast as it was just ice cream.. .
