So many great choices in downtown Bozeman--it was hard to decide, but we absolutely nailed it! The cornbread was amazing... we devoured every bite. We live in the Northwest, and my husband loves King salmon but rarely orders it. This time he did, and he said it was cooked to perfection--not overdone at all. I had the seared chicken breast with a hint of sweet, fruity flavor, and it was delicious. Good chicken can be hard to find without it being dry, but this was spot on. To top off the evening, we had a wonderful server Italia--born and raised in Alaska--who was so fun to chat with and greeted us with a big smile. I really, really wanted to like Fielding's but we didn't have the best experience. We stayed at the hotel and had a breakfast credit, so we could have eaten here everyday that we were there but we decided against it after the first day. I want to say the service was nice. Our server was nice and apologetic for our service issues but I will also say she didn't DO anything about it even though there were CLEAR problems. Also, the restaurant is beautiful and has a menu that looks appetizing and I'm sure is great when there are no issues. We were excited about ordering a specialty coffee. The menu is extensive and sounds so good. However, it took a very, very long time to get our drinks (a little over 20 min.) Our food was actually ready and sitting at the pass before our drinks even made it to the table. And then the drinks were not good. Like at all. They didn't taste like the descriptions, I should have just ordered a black coffee or been fine with water. The food was alright. It sat for a long time and I noticed both of the cooks getting irritated that the food was there but it seemed our server didn't want to bring it to us until we got our drinks. I saw her look at it a few times and then look at the bar. I would have rather gotten the food and had my water with it than get food that was dying at the pass. I'm sure the quality is normally alright but it wasn't when we ate it. The French toast casserole was hard as a rock, I literally could not cut it with a knife and fork. Since it was now hard and cold, it was sweeter than sweet. Not appetizing. The huevos rancheros was not good. The portion was small and it was cold. To add insult to injury, I was so irritated I did the math wrong and tipped over 50%. So my "free" (and terrible) breakfast turned out to be extremely expensive. 3 HOUR MEAL. Nice vibe and food was pretty good (we liked everything we had - cornbread, chicken and steak...except the gnocchi dish which was overcooked and not great flavor.). However - the biggest miss was the wait time for food. Servers were attentive and restaurant wasn't too crowded, only a few tables. Surprisingly it took us 45 min to get the cornbread. Over 1 hour and 10 min to the chicken tender kids meals and then at about the hour and a half mark our food finally came out. Pretty crazy! Christmas Day - we waited 40 minutes for our food. The starter appetizer came out with the food. The food was barely warm. The 8 oz. Wickens Burger came with a piece of cheddar cheese with two tomatoes slices on the side of the plate with fries. No bacon or special sauce. Not very impressive for a $23 entree. If I could feed you anything through my screen this would be it. I found Fielding's on a whim while looking for late(ish) dining in Bozeman. Was I randomly searching for a restaurant that served Bone Marrow? Maybe. Regardless, I'm glad we ended up here. Located in the Armory, this restaurant absolutely blew us away. My favorite part? Having the Chef check in on us throughout our meal to explain each dish in exquisite detail. What a gem! Our server was a kind young gentleman. Let's get to the food, shall we? First up, the Cornbread Skillet. It's buttery perfection. Covered in burnt honey butter - this shareable did not disappoint. It has a slight spicy kick that balances out the sweetness of the cornbread. Next is the Roasted Bone Marrow. I've always been a bone marrow-lovin' girly so this was a dish after my own heart. I would've liked just a tiny bit more salt but that's just me. Served on top of brioche toast, it basically just melts in your mouth. I was extremely surprised by the Grilled Ruby Trout. Trout is always a hit or miss for me in restaurants because it's often overcooked - but not here! This little trout came in from Idaho (at least that's what we were told and was cooked perfectly). What really helped elevate this dish was the charred broccoli. Craving some fried chicken? Look no further. Every single piece of chicken was tender and evenly cooked. The crispy chicken skin was oh so yummy. Did we have room for dessert? Absolutely not but we will next time! The restaurant itself has an elevated and classy vibe. Last night we headed to Fielding's to celebrate a milestone anniversary in our engagement. We were greeted and shown our table when we arrived for our reservation. The ambiance of this place was very nice! I loved the art work, the pops of green throughout the restaurant, and I loved the silverware. The menu is curated perfectly. Maybe a little on the higher end but every bite is worth the money you will spend on it. Save room for dessert! The chocolate mouse cake with cookies and cream ice cream was a nice way to finish the meal! Portion sizes are perfect. I had the pasta bolognese and he had the chicken entree. 10/10. We want to say thank you to our awesome server Maxx. He was very attentive to the table, friendly, quick, and ensured we had a great night out. The black-eyed peas were decent- just as they are when poured from a can, but there was, maybe, 2 tablespoons. Awesome hotel restaurant! Normally I don't like to dine at hotel restaurants but the quality of the food was great. We had reservations for a Saturday night at 7:30pm but we got to the hotel faster than anticipated and we were able to get a seat around 6:45pm. Our server was Sabrina and she was fantastic! If you like mezcal, The Pearl is your drink - smokey but not overpowering. Easy to drink. My fiancé got the tasting menu and it looked so good! I got the Goat Parpadelle and it was very yummy. Since one of us had the tasting menu with a few starting plates, we ordered Mussells for the table so I could eat while my fiancé was eating. However, when the first two tasting courses came out, a plate of Brussels came out. We weren't sure if they came with the tasting menu but about halfway through the meal we figured our server probably heard Brusells instead of the Mussels. Although I was craving mussels, the Brussels were perfectly roasted with some pesto at the bottom of the plate and I believe pistachios mixed in. The tasting menu was awesome, my favorites were starters: the beet salad and the mushroom bacon soup. I love beets in general and the soup is right up my alley for a mushroom lover: umami but not too much due to the bacon. It is not often that I see shitake mushrooms outside of Asian restaurants and this was a pleasant surprise. The main entree for the tasting menu was bucatini spaghetti and meatballs. Tasty! I did prefer my Goat Parpadelle over the bucatini though, the goat was more flavorful! Chefs Mark, Zach, and Joe went above and beyond to make our visits memorable and special. While MT is big on game, this team happily created plant based dishes for us. Amazing breakfast experience! I travel often through Kimpton, and this was one of the best meals we have had while staying at one of their properties. We had breakfast at Fielding's this week. It made sense since we stayed at the Armory Hotel. The portions were huge, we were seated promptly and coffee was plentiful. I think they were training a new waitress the day we were there. Nothing huge, she just didn't know they had a kids menu - and I admit it's a high end dining place so it does seem strange to ask for cereal. Our picky eater doesn't do eggs and other than the granola on the menu .. it was an everything bagel.. Breakfasts are always are hardest travel meal! And so we ask for the kids menu and cereal when we can. They do offer it for those of you traveling with the under 18s. The place is lovely to look at, and the bar would be great to hang out in after a day of hiking. read more

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Bozeman, and arguably the finest meal I had during a two-week excursion through Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. Located inside the Amory Hotel, design feels more like something you'd find in Brooklyn than Montana. Pips of color with dark wood and tile floors. I ate early, around 7:30pm, but by 8pm the place was packed and stayed that way past 10. Food was beyond impressive, even if it comes with a high price tag - which truthfully is no more than one would pay in NY or LA. That's the price of Bozeman and Jackson these days. I order the braised lamb shank which blew my mind. Incredibly delicious, cooked to perfection, and served on a simple yet highly appreciated bed of mixed vegetables. Desert -- just, WOW!!! Bourbon Pecan Chocolate cake. I wanted to order a second, and if it were my last meal, I would have. Service wise, I sat solo at the bar and was well looked after. We had an incredible experience at Fielding's in Bozeman, MT last evening!! We felt so spoiled! Our server Molly was polished, knowledgeable and on point all evening. We ordered the chef's tasting menu. Chef Preston Novak came to our table to ask what caught our eye on the menu, and took it from there. We went on a culinary adventure for the next several hours! Met friends for dinner on a Thursday night. Cute place, gorgeous floor tile. Our waitress announced they were going more 'supper club' and described the prime rib and the relish tray. Very supper clubby to my way of thinking. Anyways, after drinks were ordered I got the bone marrow as an appetizer. Got two bones. Amazing. Then I ordered the prime rib, which is always hit and miss for me--I think it is for everyone. Had they offered another steak (rib eye or filet) I'd have gone that way and I'd have missed out on the best prime rib I have ever had. The piece was huge. The negative was half of it was fat. I didn't really think much of it since the part that was amazing was just enough. When our lovely server asked if I wanted a to go box and I said it was all fat, she disappeared and a bit later a lovely fellow in a suit came by to apologize and comped my meal. Unexpected and unnecessary, but absolutely good business practice since half was inedible. It was so good tho. My beloved had the trout, also hit and miss but this was excellent. We also had the skillet cornbread which was a must-get. Affogato for dessert and I left happy. Great martini to start, wonderful wine to go with the prime rib, and kind people running the joint. From the ambiance to the staff to the chef and his food even the wine menu, your going to enjoy your time here! We had a party of four of us and had a vegetarian and a full in meat lover for the extremes and everyone loved their food. The wine specialist knew his inventory and was spot on with recommendations and assistance in choosing pre dinner wine and flavor appropriate paring to our dinner choices making the experience event better! I am not one to typically complain but this was mind boggling! I am very shocked, disappointed and disgusted! I had made a reservation on Thursday at Fielding's Restaurant for a Father's Day brunch, tomorrow for my family on OpenTable. This was insane! I honestly thought it was a scam! They, were on speaker and my mom was standing right there! We were both in awe! So they called me tonight to "confirm my reservation" which was for the wrong time and party size. However, I received confirmation via text earlier today that was accurate and it is also accurate on my OpenTable app. When I mentioned this to the gentleman, he was immediately argumentative and said that "when I had confirmed back via text there is a big glitch that changes my reservation time and party size!" I explained that I hadn't confirmed it until just then when we were on the phone, to which he explained, "causes an even bigger glitch?" Uh, Alright? Unfortunately, I was disconnected, he called back. At this point he was very agitated. I asked to speak to the manager, he informed me that"I had better be nice to his manager, as he has a short fuse." (At no point was I being rude.) As he was passing the phone to his manager I heard him say "just speak to this f-ing b****! I am done!" (And More explicit yelling)... The manager got on and was somewhat gathered, but explained to me that "his best waiter had just quit and he was not sure if I had just yelled at him?" I said no, and I was very apologetic. He said "it was Father's Day tomorrow and he wasn't sure if I had come from a broken home or something? but he was really short staffed, as is." I apologized and said "if anything I am so grateful for those that work right now, as everywhere is short staffed!" Then the "waiter" walked back in, he said "hang on he is back, let me have you talk to him." (I assume between passing the phone back and forth they thought we were on hold and couldn't hear them talking.) He was speaking to the "server" and said, "don't quit over this, just deal with this now and then you can get her tomorrow!" "You can p**s in her drink and j**k o*f in her food tomorrow! Just deal with her now, you got this buddy!" I mean, WHAT IN THE WORLD??? Needless to say, we definitely won't be eating here! They called me? I don't know if they over booked for Father's Day and the manager was making the "server" call people on already confirmed reservations? It was all bizarre but this was just so inappropriate! Also, I still have an "accurate reservation" on OpenTable which I paid $50 for! $10/person in advance! So I get to deal with that separately, I guess? I attached my reservation screenshot, I have! The look of this restaurant is great. Colorful, cozy and inviting. The service was spectacular. We stopped in for some appetizers and sides since it was getting pretty late and we didn't want a whole meal. The seasonal bread and side dishes were very tasty and well presented. The tomato soup tasted like Ragu sauce and the calamari breading had the texture of sand. It's a bit pricey but I'd come back to try out some other great looking and smelling dishes others around me ordered. read more

The restaurant is located inside the newly built Kimpton Armory hotel (fantastic hotel, btw). We had dinner here while staying at Kimpton and it was a great experience. While the menu doesn't list a ton of options, every item is well thought out and looks appealing. The interior was beautiful and clean. We went with the Angry Trout dish and despite its scary looks, it was delicious and well cooked. For dessert, we got profiteroles, coffee, and tea, and they also tasted perfect. Our server was really fun to talk to and very attentive. Only giving it 4 stars because I think it's a bit overpriced for what it is, but other than that it was excellent. read more

One of the best meals I have ever had. To start, we got out table upgraded to a booth and a friendly greeting from the manager. We began with a hot bread sampling which was basically a homemade cornbread in a rectangle cast iron which was very tasty and just sweet enough. Usually I am hesitant to eat at restaurants and hotels because their food generally isn't as good in my opinion as the restaurants that are in downtown areas more of the local establishments. Boy I was wrong about this one the food was excellent from the starter Kale and blueberry salad to the bison short ribs and halibut. As well as fantastic desserts and margaritas. The management and cooks do not want to hear the truth so they make up lies. I'm in customer service and would highly recommend the employees of this establishment. Someone lied about my complaint about the ribs that my daughter got. Some times it's hard for management to hear the truth. If a meal is bad, it's bad. Please don't blame your shortcomings on me or your staff. I have never yelled at cooks, management or staff. I would highly recommend the staff but management leaves doubts. We had breakfast there two mornings of our stay. Both days, the breakfast was very good and reasonably priced. I would like to mention the wonderful service I received from Francisco the first day. When I first walked in, the rest was just getting busy and he hustled around taking care of anything (from bussing to serving) until more help appeared to arrive. He is a very nice young man. Sam was my actual server and he is excellent. He not only took great care of our table, but helped us with any tourist questions we had. He is a great asset to the restaurant. Overall we had a great experience. Unfortunately I am unable to give five stars as the prices were outrageous. I do not recommend the war and peace mixed drink. We had two people in our party who ordered it and did not finish it. I also would not recommend the steamed mussels as they were extremely chewy (and I love mussels!) I would definitely recommend their wedge salad and parmesan halibut. The ribeye was covered in mushrooms and butter and very tasty. We could have done without the potato. It was advertised as "loaded", but had very little toppings and no cheese. The half chicken wasn't anything compared to Copper's chicken (per Lyndee). Great service and fun atmosphere. I'm visiting my daughter who is a student at Montana State from California. We went here for dinner and it was really delicious! We started with the duck popovers, the smoked trout rillette. They were both delicious. Their new bread service is amazing too! I ordered a cocktail called the secret garden and it was so good. Refreshing and flavorful but not too sweet. For the main course we had the scallops. They were cooked perfectly. For dessert we had the profiteroles and the brown butter blondie. The entire meal was really delicious and the service was great! Definitely worth a 5-star review. When we were first seated, there was a gentleman dining alone next to us and he told us that everything that he had ordered was so delicious and that we would not be disappointed. This place still has quite a few kinks to work out. The food was subpar and overpriced. The atmosphere is stylish but bring a warm coat or jacket, the AC was blasting! Our appetizers were served without napkins or cutlery, soup was served without spoons. As a party of four, no one was impressed by the appetizers (twelve hour onion dip and the special that evening; "bruschetta" with mozzarella, prosciutto, and arugula pesto) nor the entrees- burger, scallops, hanger steak and angry trout. Everything was bland. I had to ask that they remove the head of the trout (with fish tail in its mouth?) as it was totally unappetizing. And unnecessary. The only saving grace was the cocktail: I do recommend the Secret Garden. Tasted very fresh. However, the wine list needs work too. I hope they can make the necessary improvements soon. A few weeks in advance I booked a 7:15 reservation for dinner. We arrived at 7:09 and were placed right next to the chefs. Typically this is a great seat but in this case it was quite unpleasant. Expo manager and cooking staff were arguing, chef was cussing and constantly upset by other staff members, servers were annoyed and displeased as well. They had ran out of two of their main dishes and we were urged to order the second most expensive menu item, the Delmonico. The server gave raving review of the taste and assured we would love it. She heavily upsold us on every little thing and it felt like we couldn't truly explore the menu. It took an hour and 20 minutes to get our food and I was so saddened by what we received. The steaks were cold and partially undercooked, the potatoes had an off taste, and it was missing all of this "flavor" she had preached about. We also ordered a side of brocolini which came out severely burnt. The waitress said they make everything fresh in house yet I saw them unwrapping our precooked cornbread and heating it up, so is this truly made in house? For the $200 bill we walked away with I was extremely disappointed. Many tables who arrived after us were served before us and I felt like making a reservation meant nothing. I was so excited to try this place out but I sadly do not think I will be returning or recommending it to anyone. read more
