Managed to get there on a good day, easy parking. it's a small shopping center, y'know? Walking in, it literally was wall-to-wall vintage collectibles. Many still in their packages. Walking through it all brought a sense of nostalgia, but at the same time I felt a dull pain--in my wallet. Whatever your focus is, collecting can be expensive and time consuming. Star Wars, Barbie, He-Man, Star Trek (to a lesser extent)...DC/Marvel superheroes. Collectible toy cars (Hot wheels, etc.). There's a lot to look at. Some in their own package, some bagged specifically for the store. 85% of what's there are action figures and such. The rest is a mix of collectible comics, toy cars, and other odd bits. I'd say the prices are reasonable, though a handful of the limited edition collectibles (such as a Sideshow figure of Ghost Rider on his flaming bike) had prices which gave heart palpitations. Era-wise, I'd say the vast majority of toys there are mid-70's on. So there are toys related to "The Six Million Dollar Man", as an example. There were some older 50's era pieces as well. And, like i said, some comics. If I had more time to look I would've stayed longer, but time's the one thing I didn't have. Speaking of which, they were out of the one thing I was looking for. Not a problem, though. If it's not there I won't be tempted to buy it. One more thing: They opened up a 'dollar store' version of the shop a few doors down. It has what you'd expect to find there.

I was told by the manager that teachers receive a 10% discount, but when I asked to apply it, she insisted I present a physical teacher ID. I explained multiple times that I didn't have a physical ID on me, but that I am the owner of a preschool. I offered to show my professional email and even attempted to log into my school's website to verify my identity. Unfortunately, the reception inside the store is very poor my phone calls dropped as soon as I walked in making it difficult to pull anything up online. I asked if she could simply look up my school on the computer behind the counter, and she refused. For a toy and bookstore that promotes educational materials and community engagement, I expected more effort and support toward educators and school owners especially those who have direct access to hundreds of families and students. Instead, I was met with rigid policy enforcement and no willingness to problem-solve. It's disappointing to see a business that markets itself around education and community be so unwilling to work collaboratively with local educators over a modest 10% discount. Customer service should feel supportive, not transactional and dismissive. I think I should take a peek at when their contract is over.

The owner is super sweet so you can call and she'll usually be able to open up, but there have been a few missed opportunities where we were walking by and would have popped in but they were closed. The shop has a large variety, but it is highly disorganized, you will need help if you're looking for something specific. It is packed to the brim, almost claustrophobic to me. Very hard to manage if you have a tiny kid who wants to touch everything.

One cover was the wrong size…read more So, upon exchanging, was charged a 20% restocking fee (after initially being told they could not take it back) due to the packaging being opened. The cover / product was unused and in new condition. I would imagine kids open gifts fairly often and realize something is amiss like a speaker cover being the wrong size. Making an even exchange instead of charging a minimal $2.69 would have been frictionless and avoided losing a customer who would continue to spend hundreds of dollars a year. So, while we love the variety of toys and work hard to support local business, it's hard to overlook the lack of customer service.

The store is so wonderful, located right across the way from Eastern Market on Capitol Hill. All of the staff is not just incredibly friendly, but quick to offer advice on games and puzzles to take home. There is a room where you can attempt puzzles and games. We spent several hours here just enjoying all of the entertainment. It's a great rainy or snowy day activity. The bookstore just next door is a perfect pairing.
