I've only been here once but I can't wait to go back. I had the yakisoba which was enough for 2 meals. The chicken, noodles and vegetables were all cooked perfectly. Love this place, food is always fresh and excellent tasting. The wait isn't typically too long either. I docked one star due to the fact that during the lunch rush I can never get a hold of anyone on the phone to call in my order so I have to drive there to place the order and wait. No place to sit down while waiting for to-go food so I typically go sit in my car. read more

Wow! This just opened and I have to say they have the best teriyaki chicken and shrimp I've ever had! Their prices are very competitive and the quality of the food seems pretty fresh... They just need a better ventilation system as you are sitting at the dining room and you feel you are actually inside the kitchen. As others have mentioned, don't expect to get what's pictured. My teriyaki was just chicken, rice, and a lettuce-and-thousand-island salad, which was mingled with my teriyaki sauce...far from ideal. Chicken was a bit heavy on fat/gristle. Overall, it was okay, but I didn't finish it. Orange chicken was better. Good chicken, well cooked and seasoned. More spicy than normal for orange chicken, but not a problem. No veggies, just chicken and rice. Pretty good value. Expect to pay in the neighborhood of $7 for lunch, + bev. I've lived St.John's for a good 25 years. The location of St.Johns Kitchen at one time was called Dus Teryaki. They closed,and seemed to re-open in the Ranger tavern across the street. Then they closed in the Ranger and St.John's Kitchen(Teryaki) opened across the street. Often it seems like the cooked chicken is reheated, not freshly grilled like the old Du's. I recently ate at the long standing Du's on 50th and NE Sandy Blvd and they are definitely not comparable. In all the times I've eaten at St.Johns Kitchen it's been 50/50 good to no thank you! read more

My wife and I came to this place on a recommendation from one of our customers. The location is not the best, but the owners, Ho and Yeung are truly nice and accommodating. We have been here several times. It will take a few more trips to taste test most of their menu. First time I had the Chicken Katsu. The breaded Chicken was very good. The Katsu sauce needs some work. Star of the show was the Teriyaki Shrimp. It was seasoned to perfection and more importantly it had such a clean taste. (Nothing worse than fishy tasting Shrimp). my hubby and I ate here last night and I was so happy to find this place. It was affordable and very healthy. I was able to substitute white for brown rice, no msg and the chicken was grilled. It's fast food style meaning you order from the counter and get your own silverware etc.. which I prefer. I have only been to the place once so far but the experience was great. It appears to be a small, family operation and the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. There is quite a mix of different styles of dishes too. The inside is small, so its not great for groups larger than four but you could always arrange take out. Although I would like to keep this gem all to myself, I want to spread the word that this place is good so that they stay in business! read more

This place is great. Super convenient and close, the teriyaki is delicious and the portions are huge. I've had several other things like the gyoza, vegetable stir fry, chicken and green beans and everything has been great but the teriyaki chicken is my favorite. Normally it's heaps of so-so ambiguous asian food for ~$8 served relatively quickly. Today I wish I could have held off on a tip, but they make you sign immediately: crushed dead ants on the front counter, and a bothced order they refused to fess up to. My girlfriend and I both heard me say my order correctly, and then the order taker repeat it to us. Then they delivered something completely different. I could eat the botched order they gave me, or I could order again they said. Steer clear and head up to Kung Food. Great service, good food and even better prices. To the owners: I hope this costs you more than the $6.95 meal screw up you refused to fix. read more

Food is good if you can ever figure out what the restaurant is out of that day or forever. I live around the corner, and the male waiting on me for the last two years is rude, and gets mad because I can't read his mind about what he is out of and why he won't take the step of publishing current menus in his restaurant or on a website of some sort. He actually gets offended if you can't read his mind and know that he is out of the tacky paper signs he posts too. Some of the best teriyaki at a good price to be had in Portland. Has a steady stream of business. I've eaten here at least a dozen times and no issues. Seems some are very picky over the generous portions you get for under seven bucks. I can't speak for their curry or chinese style dishes that they seem to dislike... I suggest you either go for the teriyaki or the Korean dishes. The bi bim bop is pretty good and so's the kimchi when they have it. read more
