The quick ~ maybe the best General Tso's Chicken in PDX ~ tender chicken, good batter and sauce not overly sweet. The portion was huge and price cheaper for the amount you get. (This might sound funny) Real Chinese owners that actually cook the menu. Sure they make the classic Chinese American choices but also authentic Szechuan and Cantonese cuisine. Awesome service! The small family hustling attending to dine-in and door dash, pouring cheap beer and answering the ringing off the hook phone. The lounge ~ the embodiment of dive bar. Ages old drink posters collaged wall to wall, video lottery machines with permanent customers sitting for who knows how long, worn out pool table that still gets played, all lit up by classic neon fixtures. Food~Combination plates are always very good and piping hot. Potstickers were amazing. Fried Shrimp was fried just right and hot. Pork Egg Foo Young was good but, lukewarm. Offered us Egg Flower Soup which was very tasty (suggest adding salt and pepper) and, it was well needed on this cold day. Service~The service was actually surprisingly superb. Waitress was very attentive, polite, and very welcoming. Ambiance~ It was very pleasant vibe and, we were served immediately. Giving ice cold water and, all the needed condiments. I love the food, I always get the general tso's tofu to go. It doesn't come with broccoli, so you know. The service for takeout is touch and go at times. We ordered rice noodles, chicken teriyaki, and broccoli beef. We also had the gyoza and crab puffs. It was your typical Chinese food. I do like that it's a mom and pop shop and it's locally run. If you're looking for definitely affordable Chinese food in Portland, happy House won't disappoint from the hot and sour soup to the egg drop soup to the family style dinner and portions. It was enough to feed at least six or seven people even though it said it only said for do not miss out on the Mongolian beef and also the General Joe's chicken was definitely delicious. The appetizers were just a bit OK, but they more than make up for it and the other dishes. Also they have different types of beverages you can buy from beers to coax even some on one I believe I saw forget the ambience for a second and really want something delicious. Don't want to break the bank. Definitely worth a try the Portland area. read more

It is your typical Chinese neighborhood restaurant with granny sitting there and cutting to go boxes out of boxes that contained everything they use in the kitchen. That way they reuse and save money - and that money is right given back to you the prices are phenomenal low and it feels almost like a steal to eat there. For Chinese American food this place does a great job. Most places like this tend to get so so reviews due to the usual dive bar nature and the style of food. Everything we have got here has met or exceeded expectations and during this covid time it appears they are doing a good job with the distance, to go and all the extra cleaning that is now involved. So far we have only done take out since March of this year (they were closed for months) Happy to see these nice people back in business. It's true what they say about Chinese restaurants with 3.5 star ratings being legit. lol This is my go-to Chinese spot in the Overlook neighborhood. They're friendly and food is always ready in 15-20 mins when I call my order in for pick up. Plates are large and prices are great! My personal favorites are the bbq pork ends, orange chicken and the crab puffs (rangoons). If you want to linger, the bar in the back is a chill dive-y hang. They have slot machines and lots of regulars in there that are always down to chat. read more

I know it was from here because I ate nothing for 24 hours before ordering and 24 hours after eating sesame, chicken, bbq pork lo mein, and crab puffs. I was throwing up and had massively bad stomach issues at all I'll say It lasted five days . I brought the food home and ate it immediately so it wasn't something I left out . Second time here and it's solid. Our go to now. Szechuan chicken has the exact kick I love in a meal. The broccoli is plentiful and good, it also has carrots, onion, and celery. Sauce is excellent. This place it's great for lunch. FAST friendly service, clean, inexpensive and tastey. As soon as we sat down the waitress brought us menus and a couple minutes later she brought us water and tea. A few minutes later she returned to take our order, then immediately returned with our soup. The egg flower was delicious! My friend had sweet & sour soup, which he said was also delicious. Our food was brought to the table less than 10 minutes after we ordered, no joke! I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that they prepared the food also quickly, and it was fresh and delicious. My shrimp lo mein was very tasty, although I prefer the larger spaghetti type noodles vs the super thin angel hair noodles they use. But still, delicious flavor. The spring rolls were just right... nice and crispy, but not super greasy like most places. Again, pleasantly surprised. I have driven past this place everyday for years and never considered eating here, because it looks really sketchy from the outside. When the food arrived, there was so much quantity for the price you pay so it was worth it. I enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken and crab puffs, the hot n sour soup not so much. Soup, crap puffs and a spring roll are included, as is a pot of hot Chinese tea. A great lunch for under $10. (And that includes the tip!) If you want to linger and sip your tea, while pouring over your fortune cookie, no one seems to mind. Perfect for a rainy day. Added plus, the dimly lit adjoining dive bar offers drinks at low prices including a very drinkable house beer at $2 a pint. There is a pool table and state gaming machines as well. About a half dozen large hi-def TV screens show sports and CNN. Open until.10 pm, you can have your food in the bar, if you choose. The bar staff is usually friendly, but they are on "Portland time" and not in any hurry to accommodate those who wonder in. Chose it because it was close to home and one of the few Chinese food restaurants open later than 9:00 p.m. Pay no attention to the exterior... looks can can be deceiving! I must say the food did not disappoint! We will definitely be back! The sweet and sour chicken had a crunchy coating, was tender, juicy and not some weird red color. It wasn't overly sweet either.
