Always assumed the place had a long waiting list. One day I finally decided to cruise by, I walk in, meet the owner Craig where an unplanned consultation takes place, and within 24 hours I walk out with a shinny new tat. Craig is talented. He free-hands both the concept and execution after I showed him the idea. We picked out the color and went to town. The finished product speaks for itself. As I am leaving this review I had just gotten out of the shop once again having another tat done all within a month.

I've had the pleasure of communicating with Craig (the owner) via email because I was doing my research for tattoo shops within radius of me. I went in on a whim and emailed a few businesses to see if they can give me a quote via email with an attached picture of what I wanted to get done. Craig replied within timeframe and had the most reasonable price and their reviews were great! I scheduled an appointment, I arrived, was greeted by another tattoo artist that led me to Craig. There were a few other people getting tattoos done and the different artist's had a nice vibe towards everyone! I got a tattoo in my wrist area and I wasn't in pain at all! Craig was very nice, had no judgement, extremely meticulous, and was very delicate during the process. ++ Cash only and Parking is on the street! Very clean business as well. ++ I will recommend everyone I know who are interested in getting anything done.

My mom and I got tattoos here by Jake. He was able to accommodate us on a holiday and did a great job on our tattoos. He took the time to make sure we were both happy with our tattoos and did not rush us. Great conversation and a nice guy. We both are very happy with our tattoos. Price was very reasonable too. I have already recommended them to friends. Will definitely be back!

I've been going to this tattoo shop for so long that I completely forgot about giving them a review. This place will always get my business. The shop is always clean, friendly, professional, and GOOD. They work fast and will always tell you the truth. I highly recommend booking with Sean or Craig. Enjoy.

I remember the first time I walked into American Electric in 2006. I had been to several other shops in LA looking for someone to do my first tattoo and felt put off and intimidated everywhere I'd visited. Craig Jackman's shop instantly felt like a breath of fresh air. I was welcomed warmly from the get go and began a tattooing journey with Craig that continues to this very day. We conceptualize my tattoos together-that can involve discussion but also arguing at times and that process always leads to the best possible outcome. I have learned over time to trust Craig and his tattooists implicitly. He is a true tattoo wizard and unequivocally one of the most influential Los Angeles and national masters of fine-line tattooing. Having said that though, Craig has such a broad range of expertise in different techniques and styles of ink art. His imagination and impromptu creativity know no bounds. I always love the repartee in the shop and I leave the shop feeling like I've spent time with a community and with a good friend. Craig is funny as hell btw! He has inked so much of the story of my life onto my body and the relationship with him and his shop are an integral part of the work that I sport. I give my highest, wholehearted recommendation to Craig and his small cadre of artists. A trip from anywhere in the world to have work done at American Electric will be worth your time, money and energy. I simply love American Electric!

Seriously, the linework is sweeeeeet.

Sage took care of me this past weekend; I came in a week prior, wanting to check out the studio and maybe get a tattoo. (Some of us girls get our haircut after a bout of emotional turmoil; this time I thought I'd take it up a notch.) I showed Sage the sketch I wanted, and he said he'd make it look just like it was drawn on my skin. Fast-forward to the day of the appointment. He was efficient, detailed, and best of all, true to his word - my new tattoo looks like it was drawn on my back. Line strokes and all! By the way, I got Leonardo da Vinci's sketch for a helicopter design on my upper back. The price was more than fair, and... may I just underline once again how much I love how my tatt came out? Yes! So if you stop by, check out Sage's work. I caught glimpses of what the other artists were working on, there is some serious artistry going on here.

I've been coming to American Electric for the last few years now, and no matter how wacky my requests--a "watercolor" silhouette of Elliott Gould smoking from THE LONG GOODBYE, a hyper-bright BADLANDS tribute on my entire forearm--Craig is always down to translate my weird requests into an inked reality (while also making interesting conversation during long sessions). The vibe of American Electric is like a laidback and humongous living room; everyone there is BS-free. The only place in L.A. that I'll go for a tattoo.

Got my first tattoo with Craig Jackman and it was an amazing experience! We had great conversations through the process

Thank you Craig! You wonderful chap!

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and immediately made to feel at ease. The shop itself is very clean and welcoming. The jewelry is beautifully displayed. I just wish I remembered the name of the woman who helped us because she made such an impression. She walked us through all the options at different price points in a way that felt completely neutral and respectful. There was no subtle steering toward something more expensive. It genuinely felt like whatever we chose was the right choice. Ivy, my piercer, was incredibly thorough and precise. I really want to stress how pleasant and painless this piercing was. I am talking pain level 0 out of 10. I AM NOT MAKING THAT UP. She is extremely clean in her process and talked me through every step so I always knew what was happening. The room itself felt like a doctor's office in terms of cleanliness and professionalism. I wanted to write this because there aren't many reviews here about septum piercings specifically. When I was searching for where I wanted to go, Oak and Poppy kept coming up but I didn't see many septum reviews. Ivy is a true professional in this work. It's clear she knows exactly what she's doing. The staff cares about the customer's experience and it shows every step of the way. If you're looking for a septum piercing and want an experience that feels comfortable, this is the place to go! Thank you Ivy! Thank you Oak and Poppy!

My husband and I got matching tattoos here and for the tattoo itself it's 3 stars. Today, it has been 3 days since we got the tattoo and although the tattoo itself is small, has fine lines, and is on the wrist, it appears as if it has a smear/smudge on one of the corners on both tattoos. This isn't my first tattoo, and my husband and I have been following the after care and have been careful. It's on the healing stage, but you can tell that the corner line differs and there is a smudged area on both tattoos. For both these it was $240 total and done by Chris. I will update this review once the tattoos heal completely.

Not only is this woman one of the most talented humans alive, but she is such an amazing and kind person and getting to be tattooed by her has become such a highlight of my life. When I first met her, I was in a really bad place with my health. I was living with some very serious health issues and was just overall struggling so much and truthfully, I felt like a foreigner in my own body. I first got a Wicked tattoo done by her and when I walked into Supersweet, I was so nervous. I had many other tattoos but I was just in a very vulnerable place and at that time, everything made me anxious. When she sat down with her designs, what she had come up with took my breath away. It was so much better than I could have ever imagined and it was the most stunning design I'd ever seen. As we sat down to get started, she could tell that I was nervous and was so gracious, gentle, compassionate and understanding, and really took her time to make sure I felt safe. This meant the world to me. After that, I was scheduled to have a tattoo with her again, and I needed to cancel bc I ended up having emergency back surgery. She was, again, so kind, loving, understanding and supportive. I have since come in and gotten quite a few more tattoos with her and for the first time in so long, my body feels like my own again and I am excited to look down and see my beautiful tattoos done by her. I fully intend to be her client from now until, honestly, however long she'll have me. Her work is stunning and I have so much fun at our sessions. She is someone I deeply appreciate and I truly couldn't be more grateful for Alexa! She's such a kind human, that my husband, who SWORE he would never get a tattoo started warming up to the idea because he finally felt safe and comfortable and that was solely because of her. He officially just got his first tattoo from her. I am so excited for more tattoo fun and I HIGHLY recommend booking with her!

I was definitely giving toddler energy by kicking my feet and asking questions and she totally entertained every second of it. We talked about movies, tv shows, travel, music, etc. The conversation totally helped distract from the pain and before i knew it the session was over. I thought parking would be tough, but i went on a Saturday afternoon and found parking relatively easily a block away on Lake Shore Ave. The quality of work is top notch and my tattoo came out exactly as i wanted it to. Strongly recommend!

He wanted double bands around his forearm and Sam was able to sketch it out and do the tattoo on the same day. We were in and out within 1.5 hours. He explained the process and aftercare which made getting a tattoo seamless and less daunting. I was on the fence about getting a tattoo but my friend said if he got one I would have to get one too. I decided to get a runner with an ekg as I thought it was fitting for me. I wanted something small for my first tattoo and easily to keep hidden from my mom (sorry mom). He asked me to send him a picture of what I wanted and scheduled an appointment for Monday at 11am. Once Monday came I walked over and signed the consent form. He then printed out the tattoo and placed the outline on my chest and asked me if it was where I wanted it. Being a tattoo noob I trusted his judgement. After letting the outline dry I laid down and he began working on the piece. He said since it was a small tattoo and mainly lines there shouldn't be much pain and the healing process wouldn't be as long. It took about 30 mins to finish up the tattoo and the quality came out amazing. There was no pain at all and he went over the aftercare as well. I showed Sam this other tattoo I wanted and he said he would be able to do that as well. He says his art style is realism and anime so I can't wait to get more work done by him. He has been tattooing for 2 years now along with his apprenticeship. He told me to message him when I'm ready for my next piece. Maybe this tattoo thing is an addiction and will keep you coming back for more.
