Had a busy busy weekend to Yelp about, I had to recover a bit as we'd spent a healthy amount of Saturday evening here at the Dancing Marlin. We started here with dinner and friends before a show at Ad Libs (review to come). Everyone here was very nice, our waitress very chatty and knowledgeable about the restaurant, it's menu and why they have what they have etc... as well as was proud to tell us what they do well. She proudly proclaimed, "we sell more tuna steaks here than any restaurant in the southwest". Well, well... alright, lets just see how good it is then. Many of us decided to go tuna steak with various sides etc... Along with the tuna steak you get the option for veggies or pasta and a ridiculous variety of sauces (too many IMO - pick 2 or 3 and do them well), the waitress with gusto fired off what each of the sauces were and she came to Diablo Tempestuous (hot but hotter with habanero), where they ask you 4 times if you can *really* handle it. I scoff and have decided that's what I'll have with my tuna. I also went with a small salad and a tasty, tart and tangy greek/feta vinaigrette... I would get it again. I'd prefer if they put some feta crumbles on there and had anchovies as an option but I digress. So between the wife, myself and our neighbors sitting directly next to us we ordered our tuna 4 different temperatures. Me - seared Wife - Medium Rare Neighbor - medium Neighbor wife - med well What we got: Me - medium Wife - seared Neighbor - medium rare Neighbor wife - medium well So, 3 outta 4 were wrong... well on the wrong plate that is. For a joint that self touted the quality of the fish (spot on it was exceptionally tasty - even the homemade tartar style), they sure as hell couldn't find the right plate... I'll reiterate so it's not lost, the preparation of the tuna and it's quality are not in question at all, very very good; right amount of seasoning and nice grill char. I wouldn't mind seeing them add a encrusted / seared variety as well. The side of pasta I got was WAY too big and unfortunately convoluted with a myriad of unnecessary vegetation and adornment. I will grant that it was spicy, but some of the spice was clouded by the array of other useless inhabitants in the sauce. My wife got the primavera and also complained that there was too much garbage in her sauce so she didn't eat it. Sorry guys, y'all need to tighten up the sauce conundrum. I'm sure you have lots of patrons that blow smoke and tell you its fine, it's not; it's over done. Not so much that I wont come back, but I won't order either of these sauce types, maybe the alfredo or 4 cheese has a more even hand? Pause, we leave and go to Ad Libs and THEN we come back to the bar for some more cocktails! So, if you've managed to read this far into my review you're probably wondering after how I beat em up on the meal they still get a 4 star? It's the BAR man!! The BAR! It's not some uber over the top stylish joint or some sort of swanky night spot. The bartenders know how to pour a flipping cocktail and they don't go light. Nice selection of spirits and reasonably priced. Next time we're in Deep Ellum, we'll choose Pete's as our bar to socialize and consume. We had a work lunch here today, for my maiden voyage at St. Pete's, and it rocked: Ambiance: huge long bar vibe (42' bar), and hundreds of suspended marlins dangling about Service: first class, fun (we met Pete himself within 3 minutes of sitting down), attentive. Great place in Deep Ellum with a huge outdoor covered patio. Went here for lunch on a Friday, specifically because I didn't want to sit inside anywhere and I remembered seeing this patio. I wasn't sure what the food would be like but we were pleasantly surprised. I had the Greek Salad with chicken - it was great. A large portion with tons of feta, kalamata olives and vegetables (not just a bunch of lettuce). My fiance had a plate with fried catfish filet and a bunch of fried shrimp - super yummy and very fresh tasting. Will definitely be back!!! read more

This has been on the "to try" list for a really long time, and it seemed like its number had finally come up. Sitting outside is nice, and it isn't too crowded on a weeknight. Just be aware that you are outside, there are bugs, there is smoking, and dogs are allowed. Otherwise, it's a nice area to enjoy a summer night in Dallas. The service was excellent - Nathan was very laid back, not overbearing, and had good and honest suggestions on the food. There aren't any descriptions on the menu, and he was kind enough to explain them, as well as answer any questions we had. The nachos come highly recommended, and they're absolutely delicious. Next time, I think I'd get a whole order of that for my dinner. We also got a tuna steak sandwich and fish and chips. The bread is a bit deceiving, as the tuna was about half the size of the bun, and probably could have used something to moisten the bread a bit, but the fish and chips were really good. Slap some malt vinegar all over the fish and the fries, and call it a night. I'm not usually one for tartar sauce, either, but it was a good batch. Overall, very nice night and great service. The food is solid, it's a fun place, and it's very reasonably priced. Worth the walk to Deep Ellum any night. read more

This is one of my go to places in Deep Ellum. Owner is great. Food is from scratch and no corners are cut. Little things like the BBQ sauce and tartar sauce and beer varieties just make this a little slice of heaven for me. Prices are right. Oh, Pete. You are the farthest thing from a saint but we love you just as well. My velvet hammers are served in the frostiest glasses and the mountains of food we order are the most delicious, fattening noms you can get in all of Deep Ellum. The fried calamari is a must! The potato and beer soup and the cream of mushroom soup are ever so decadent and delicious. Then there's the tuna steak.. Oh, that tuna steak. Seared rare with a side of angel hair ala vicki. Then there's the grilled chicken breasts with a side of angel hairs with clams in white sauce... Yum! Cant forget about the chicken fried steak with the mountain of french fries! I have been coming here since 1995 (you do the math) and have NEVER been disappointed. For my money, this is the best dining value in Dallas. Great food, varied menu, moderate prices. My personal favorite is the Tuna Steak with their incredible green sauce, followed by Chin Chin's Chicken Sandwich and the Pasta Diablo. If you want to save money, order the Tuna Steak Sandwich, and just dump the bun. LARGE portions of food, which I enjoy. Even my three kids love this place, and they are the pickiest eaters in the free world. Tip: Go here for lunch on Sunday after you get out of church. The pasta was really great. I had the Quattro Formaggi with Italian sausage and t was absolutely delicious. The pizza on the other hand... gross. The crust was obviously a cheap, frozen crust that was just disgusting. They are still getting 4 stars because of the great service and amazing pasta. During a work training in South Dallas, my coworkers and I decided to go to St. Pete's for lunch and boy did we leave happy and quite full! We arrived around 11:15 and there was only one more table of people already there. So we sat ourselves and were promptly greeted by a waitress and she grabbed our drink orders. As we looked at the menu, we were able to notice all the bar decorations. They are definitely not everyone's taste (as notated in other reviews), but we loved it! Tons to look at with a classic dive bar feel. The "creaky" wooden floors, while annoying to some, gave St. Pete's an antique-y vibe in a good way. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with a side of tots and it was amazing! The chicken was juicy with a wheat bun and provolone cheese as recommended by the waitress. I have to say the wheat bun was a little stale, but I devoured it nonetheless! The tots on the side were literally a mountain high and I was completely surprised they would give so much! This has become my very favorite place to eat, hangout. The vibe is funky, cool and weird. The staff is awesome, the food is really, delicious, everything I have ordered consistently good. I personally recommend the tuna steak, either salad or pasta to go with...yumm!! Solid drink variety and they always remember my order. I will take my laptop and work, the wifi is great...bonus huge patio! If you are one of the plastic people looking for the latest see and be seen trendy spot, this is not for you. A great new add to the appetizer menu is a tuna crostini that has to be tried. Today's tortilla soup, which can be put up against any in town, and their Cobb salad continues to shine. I have no idea how this place has 4 stars on Yelp. I was seriously disappointed with my meal on NYE. First, I ordered the "baked garlic" because I LOVE garlic (and feta). Basically this app is garlic bulbs fried and thrown on a plate with some rye bread and feta. While, I love all three of those ingredients on their own - the combination was really weird and kinda gross.... For my meal I ordered the tuna steak sandwich. It was OK. The cilantro sauce that it came with did NOT seem to go with it. The tartar sauce was meh... Where are the hush puppies, cole slaw, grilled fish, etc etc? This is NOT a seafood place. It is a bar with crappy, overpriced food.... I wish I would not have wasted my money :( read more

I cannot believe I have lived in deep ellum for several years and have never been to this place! My boyfriend and I were walking down the street and decided to stop by for a drink and we were so glad we did!! Josh and Gina at the bar were so hilarious and has us giggling and laughing the entire night! We found ourselves making friends with others at the bar and trying different drink concoctions Josh was making up! Also there was this wonderful performer playing all sorts of instruments and talking to different groups in the bar! I seriously found this place to be so refreshing and low-key fun. Sometimes going to some of the newer "hip" places in deep ellum can be stressful just based on how crowded it is but I'm so glad we have a stand-by for a night of fun! read more

I've always loved St. Pete's. Now we are in a no dine in environment. I called in an order for lunch earlier this week. I ordered a little more than just lunch. The order was ready when promised. They brought the order out to my car promptly. Easy Peasy. The food was well packed. The Greek Salad w salmon tasted delicious, as good as if it had been served in the restaurant. The Tortilla Soup was a generous portion and very tasty. I highly recommend them. In this time which will be so financially stressful for restaurants, I have committed to ordering a take-out lunch at least 5 times a week. I will order from locally owned restaurants as frequently as I can. I encourage you to do the same to support these businesses that we all love. read more

First, I've always wanted to give St. Pete's a try & today was the day! I'm so glad we did! We were welcomed & greeted right off the bat from the friendly bartender & wait staff and were told to sit wherever we'd like. I love the dark old creaky wood floors & cool bar! The walls are filled with all kinds of old fishing pictures, fish/animal mounts & tons of pictures of people who have dined at St. Pete's & personally know Pete. It was around 1:45 on a Monday & the lunch crowd was starting to clear out. We picked out our cozy little table & were immediately approached by our friendly waiter, Drew. He's very helpful and accommodating. He immediately brought us over our own pitcher of Pete's special blend of Apricot Tea.....man, how I wish I could get a gallon to go! I love it! We first ordered the mushrooms w/warm marinara sauce & a side of ranch dressing. The mushrooms were perfectly battered....probably the best I've ever eaten. I ordered the Fried Shrimp with some really delicious tarter sauce, for my entree. I enjoyed the shrimp but, I like a little lighter batter. Hubby ordered a cup of Chili & the Grilled Chicken Salad. He loves Chili & said it was loaded with beef. He also said it was some of the Best Chili he'd ever eaten! WOW, that's a large compliment! We ordered a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup to-go for dinner. It is sooooo good! I'm looking forward to my next visit to St. Pete's & trying something different each & every time. Two guys at the bar ordered a heapin' plate of "Wahoo Wings " & "Angel Wings".....we will be sharing a plate of those bad boys for starters next time! They looked YummOla! The Tuna is a must try! My wife and I met up with some friends at St. Pete's. First thing I noticed when we walked in was all of the fish on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. Guess that explains the Dancing Marlin. I'm smart like that. They have a great menu. Tons of choices. We went with the Fried Pickles and Chin Chin's chicken sandwich. The pickles are cut into chunks and are lightly breaded. They were pretty tasty. The chicken sandwich was huge. It's served on a wheat bun, which is a plus. I thought it was delicious. We limited ourselves to a couple of Blue Moon's because we had that looooong drive back to the 'burbs. Service was good and Pete was slinging drinks behind the bar and checking on customers. I really like establishments where the owner is present and hands on. I guess parking could be a beating but we really didn't have a problem. We parked on the street and pumped quarters into the meter. $.50 will get you an hour. Not bad. We're already planning a return trip so we can try the pizza and sample a few more beers off the menu. This would be a regular stop if we lived in the neighborhood. read more

I've been off and on with St. Pete's over the years, but I can honestly say they have been consistently good. The real reason I go here? Paul. The bartender. That classy gentleman will mix you the DRYEST of dry martinis if you ask. He is a gentleman and a scholar--knows his craft well. Tall guy, always with a crisp white apron on--like what you'd expect in some film noir or a detective movie from the 30s-50s. Also there's a nice long bar. Food-wise--alright they're somewhat famous for the tuna steak sandwich. That does not float my boat in general. It isn't St. Pete's specifically--I just don't dig that sandwich. What IS good? For my tastes, they will definitely oblige you if you request extra extra crazy insane hot on both the wings (which are really good) and the Diablo pasta. Good lord they should bring you a towel with both of those. Cool place. Creaky wood floors that I like. Nice covered patio that is very friendly to dog owners (bleh). NOM! Have you ever had a place on your to-go list for so long that you completely forget about it? That is St. Pete's for me. I've seen this place for years upon years but I am not sure how I've never bothered. Maybe because I thought it would be more expensive. Well, that was illusion number 1. This place is so reasonably priced. I ordered the Zorba's Greek Salad and I cannot express to you how HUGE it was, and it only cost $11.95. The salad was crisp and loaded to the gills (no pun intended) with fresh veggies, olives, feta cheese, carrots, and bell peppers. I was so happy with this salad. Also, the house Greek dressing is not to be missed. I will say thought that the salad totally started intimidating me. I swear that it just kept growing and growing. Thankfully, I was starved and I also did not order chicken with it, so that was a win-win. The only down side I found to the menu was the abundance of fried options. I really would have preferred more grilled foods, but that is my only complaint. As many Yelpers know, my big peeve is bad customer service. Let me tell you that you don't have that problem here. The patio waitress we had was great. I wish I could remember her name. She had the cutest fro, well done cat-eyes, and a seriously warm smile. She wasn't pushy and was super laid back while being unobtrusive yet very attentive. That is my type of service. I will definitely be back, especially if I can sit in her section. read more

I'm in Dallas twice a year for the past I can't even remember - Pete's has been THE GO TO for me. One of the most comfortable, laid back, friendly restaurant / bars I have ever set foot in. The food is incredible, drinks served with that awesome Lexi attitude and the proprietor, Pete, he is THE MAN. The staff is TOP NOTCH as well, you can tell they like working for Pete, smiling all the time. The place is filled with a collection of stuff that could only have been assembled by the man with his name on the joint. If you have the good fortune to meet Pete, you'll for sure be back. You have to get the dancing tuna sandwich. It's a giant tuna steak (not tuna salad), cooked to perfection on a soft, wheaty bun, with some kind of tangy coleslaw heavenly topping. My family and I never miss a chance to eat and drink here! This is a classic neighborhood bar environment with very little pretense but is not lacking on warmth and personality. There is a full-service bar and plenty of beer choices. The food is exquisitely prepared pub food. St. Pete's burger is cooked to order with a variety of customization options. After reading several glowing reviews on Yelp about this establishment and their tuna steak sandwiches, I had to come and check it out. We came for a late lunch, so there weren't any crowds to fight. A few people at the bar and a few at the tables...we pretty much had our pick of tables. Our waitress, Missy was her name if I can remember, was awesome! Service is a real plus for me, and she was good. She made awesome recommendations, was real personable, and has started my girlfriend on the kick of mixing cholula hot sauce with her ranch dressing for a little extra flavor! (I tried it, and I must admit, it was good). I had the tuna steak sandwich with some pasta salad on the side. Excellent! The beer was soooo cold. I love when my glass has been frozen, and the beer on tap is so cold, and you get those small chips of ice in your beer. Ahhhhhhhh!!! Sooo refreshing! I had no complaints at all about my visit.
