Day 61 of Coronavirus lockdown and I'm tired of my own cooking. St. Pete's was a random selection that we could all agree on and have delivered by Postmates. Best decision ever! Club sandwiches are my thing. If it truly meets the criteria of a club sandwich--three pieces of sliced bread--even a mediocre club can scratch that sandwich itch. SPDM's is no mediocre club. It might very well be THE BEST CLUB SANDWICH in DALLAS. What makes it so outstanding is the toasted marble rye and the generous portions of turkey and ham. Well played Pete. My one complaint is that I had to add bacon for $1. Every club should come with bacon. Period. I was also impressed with the fried pickles. While Pluckers is still champion in this category, SPDM is a real contender with their breaded dill spear pieces and the amazing homemade ranch for dipping. My son loved his fish and chips, and my daughter was a fan of the meatball pizza. They were both happy with the sheet cake dessert. Thanks for a great meal Pete! read more

Kitschy DE bar has better food than I expected! We had driven or walked past St Petes a thousand times; so glad we finally ate there last night! Decor? This bar looks like it was decorated by 7 drunken fishermen after 'smoking wet' - but that def adds to the ambiance. There is no shortage of visual distraction while waiting on your food or drink. If a seaside garage sale vomited in DE - this is what it would look like. Drinks? Regular bar fare, with the added plus of a plastic dancing marlin to stir your drink with! Remember getting a cool toy in the cereal box? This is the adult version; mega bonus-points for any drink that comes with a toy! Food? A variety of appetizers and entrees ranging from pseudo-Italian - to Tex-Mex - to the trendy seafood you might expect at a place called 'Dancing Marlin.' My wife really enjoyed the steak fingers, and we had to help her finish! My son & I loved the fried tuna burger - imagine a thick tuna steak, fried, and held inside a large hamburger bun!! Awesome! This is a dive bar that wants to be an Italian seafood restaurant. The beer and cocktail selection was decent, but you can get that anywhere in Deep Ellum. The server was quick and attentive. Now onto the food. We got a Hot Dog with good all beef sausage, but the chili tasted like it was from a can (not fresh or good). The Pasta was absolutely dreadful! There was maybe half an ounce of the Italian sausage as you can see from the picture, and the Quattro Formaggi sauce had less flavor than milk. The hubby and I were strolling through our new hood, so decided to have a small bite and a drink here. Our waiter was very nice. It was "officially" 3 minutes before happy hour, but he let that fact slide. My well drink was only $2.50 and the bartender didn't skimp on the rum. Also, the rum was not poor quality, which was also appreciated. My hubby's Shiner was perfectly ice cold. The calamari was good. It was crispy and not greasy at all. The marinara sauce was pretty good. We also split a plate of steak fingers with fries. I agree with other Yelpers that the steak fingers are yummy. One order of them was plenty for two if you aren't very hungry. My hubby went nuts over the gravy. I'm not a huge fan of white gravy, but it did go perfectly with the steak fingers. There are TV screens along the walls, so I'm sure this place is packed on game days. The atmosphere is truly laid back, casual. There's also an outdoor patio that looks perfect for hanging with a group of friends and grabbing some drinks and grub. AMAZING. That's all I have to say. The soup, salad, entrees and service was excellent. I got the chicken breast with veggies and WOW. The veggies were so good and the portion of protein they provided is great. My boyfriend got a white sauces pasta (not sure of the name) but he said it was amazing and he's a big pasta lover. The fish and chips I was told was again, a great option from our friend who was joining us. The atmosphere is very calm and enjoyable. Have gotten take out from saint Pete's many times and have always enjoyed. The chili, chicken Alfredo, fish and chips, and chicken fried steak are all hearty meals and excellent. Recently dined in for the first time and the experience was marvelous. The kitchen closes at 1000 and we arrived at 930. The waitress was very gracious and told us we had plenty of time to eat. The restaurant has a bit of a dive feel but is clean and spacious. A few patrons sat at the bar clutching cold ones and taking in Thursday night football. Large model marlins and deer trophies decorate the walls, as well as cool and historic pictures and memorabilia. For dinner we started with some queso which hit the spot. It went great with a cold beer and had a side of salsa that had a surprising kick. I got the diablo tempests pasta. It is a pasta with habanero sauce and jalapeño and shrimp. It was outstanding and certainly had me sweating- and is not for the faint of heart. I am a spicy food aficionado and found this blistering spicy pasta dish satisfying My girlfriend got the fish and chips and as usual they were great. Large beer battered and perfectly fried cod comes with salty and fresh French fries. A side salad was crispy and fresh. Food came out quick and service was friendly and prompt. I really like this place. The food is very good and the variety is astounding. Favorites of mine include the grilled tuna sandwich, the Cowboy Cut Bone-in Ribeye and the Greek Salad w/ grilled tuna. The rotating soup of the day is also very good. I think they're up to 10 soups that they rotate through. read more

So convenient to downtown for lunch or anytime in the heart of Deep Ellum. Parking tends to be tricky, but during the daytime hours the meters are free. Service and the staff, along with the great food is why I keep coming back, but don't let the huge Marlins and other oddities hanging from the ceiling scare you off! Today, I went for a rather large meal since I'm storing protein for my next marathon. The Surf & Turf with side salad & baked spud would be choice from a very extensive menu to make anyone happy. The New York Strip steak with it's great flavor (Medium) hit the ball out of the park. Add in the grilled shrimp was like putting the icing on the cake. However, the shrimp could have use more cajun seasoning IMO. And don't forget to try St. Pete's special blended ice tea (You'll Love It)! I live in the neighborhood (Deep Ellum) and St. Pete's is one of my favorites. The service is always great, and the prices are great for the quality of food they have. My fave is the fried shrimp platter - it never disappoints - but the menu is big enough to have something for even the pickiest of eaters! read more

We used to go to Pete's frequently when our offspring was much younger; she really enjoyed the spaghetti! We're happy to report that it's still the inviting, friendly neighborhood joint with great food that it has always been. 'A' had a tough time deciding between Cam's Fish & Chips or Mikey's Fish Tacos. She chose the tacos but I'm pretty sure that neither is the wrong answer. I had the dancing tuna sandwich with tater tots...yumm! Be sure to go with the chef's recommendation (medium rare) on doneness for all of the tuna offerings...think sushi, but in a bun with tater tots. We enjoyed a few pints of craft beer too. read more

St. Pete's is almost always a good experience. Service is really server dependent. I've had amazing service and other times just so-so. There is plenty of space inside and outside on their patio. It's Deep Ellum, so find street parking (& pay attention to times you need to pay the meter) or find a paid lot nearby. I've been here more than several times. I often order the tuna, either with the Greek salad or in a sandwich. It's great when they cook the Tuna correctly as ordered, but I've often had it well done when I've requested medium to medium rare. The salads are huge & full of fresh tasting ingredients. The grilled veggies as a side to a sandwich is a great option & is plentiful. Their wings are consistently really good! They are big & tasty (TWSS). Pasta dishes are also excellent & versatile depending on customer preference. I've tried the fried pickle spears, which are good & different from other restaurants, but I prefer pickle chips/planks. As far as drinks, I often order Sauvignon Blanc here. I honestly don't know why, but I do almost every visit. They have a full bar and an extensive bottled/canned and draft beer list. Also- gotta love the blue Marlins that come with your water and lemon. read more

Gosh dammm place was awesome. Came in on a recombination from our Uber driver for a late night dinner. Kitchen closed at 11 but our server was happy to serve us at 1055. I got the fish and chips, and the wife just got a not so small Chicken Caesar salad. Service was a 10/10, Rachel kicked ass and was very fun to have wait on us! We will be back!! read more

St Pete's never disappoints! The drinks and food are always good. The bar has a nautical theme, as you might expect, because the owner Pete is an avid fisherman. The decor is comprised of other kitschy things, like signs that say 'It is what it is' and a clock that's always at 5pm. In other words, awesome stuff! I really like that drinks are served with a marlin stirrer. It's those little things that go a long way. I've tried most of the things on the menu. The food is always prepared fresh. My favorite appetizer is the stuffed jalapeños, hand breaded and stuffed with cream cheese. Even the house salad is amazing! Oddly enough, even the ranch is extra tasty. Check out St Pete's! The service at St. Pete's is amazing. So much better than other restaurants/bars in Deep Ellum, and in my opinion, theirs even rivals the fancy-pants $$$$ dinner spots in uptown. Pair the impeccable service with a nice interior space (lots of wood - big bar area), a huge covered patio for those who like to dine al fresco with dogs and smokers, and seriously delicious food, and you end up with a wonderful spot to waste away an afternoon or have a cozy dinner date. Their salads are always crisp and fresh, and the house vinaigrette (greek whipped with feta) is so good I dream about it on those nights that my thoughts aren't subsumed by the lemon vinaigrette from Twin Peaks (don't judge - it's freaking fantastic). The tuna is always cooked just right. The drinks are strong and served in proper glassware (though not cheap). They even have cloth napkins and real silverware. It's hard to not feel like you get what you pay for here, and that's seeming more and more rare these days. If you're hungry, and tired of the shitty service at Tanoshii, waddle down the block to St. Pete's where you will be treated like both your business and happiness are important. read more

I recently read a review from a Yelper I follow and knew I needed to give SPDM a try. I felt at home the second I walked in. The décor is simple, old school neighborhood bar and dining, very similar to a neighborhood Chicago bar/lounge. Nice long bar on one side of the room and table seating around the rest of the room. One area has a pretty awesome collection of signs, both neon and tin. The other thing I like; just a handful of TVs near the bar area. A server greeted us at the door and told to sit anywhere we'd like, it was after lunch and not crowded. Our server took our drink order straightaway, very friendly guy. The beer list is very worthy, I counted over 45+ bottle beers and at least 10 draft beers. I'm really liking this place already! I ordered the Fish & Chips and she had the Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich. The one thing I love is when a restaurant use fresh ingredients. The Fish & Chips came with a fresh and creamy tartar sauce that was heavenly. The Fish batter was light and crispy, not oily at all. The fish itself was fresh, tender, and flaky. And the fries too were light and tender. The dish was very satisfying and plentiful with four pieces of fish on a plate covered in fries. The Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich was over-sized and full of flavors, especially from the fresh grilled jalapenos, very warm and tasty. Another bonus for me was that our server bought out the malt vinegar with the Fish & Chip. I know it doesn't sound like much, but I often have to ask for it at some places that server F&C. And half the time they don't have any. Hmm, F&C and no malt vinegar. *sad face* This was a grand first visit, but it won't be my last I assure you. The bar alone will lure me back in, but the food is a requirement too. I can see coming back for lunch real soon. read more

Where do I begin. I haven't had lunch at St. Pete's in ages and I'm really not sure why. This place has so much character and personality. It was a very relaxed and laid back atmosphere. It was after 2pm.. so you expect the place to be empty. But there were a few people sitting on the patio enjoying the sun & a several people sitting at the bar. So worked my way towards the end of the bar. There are a couple large flat screen Tv's on each end of the bar. Since I came here during the world cup, they were showing a couple of the matches on them. So skip forward to my lunch. I ordered the fried catfish with a pasta salad. It didn't take more than a few minutes and I'm telling you it was more catfish than I expected. You can't tell from my picture, but the order came with 2 large pieces. I usually put a bit of hot sauce or Tabasco on my catfish, but this time I decided that I would just go with out. I have no complaints about that choice. The cocktail sauce that comes with it is a bit spicy and that worked just fine for my tastes. The fish was lightly battered and not the thick heavy batter that some places hit you with. Service was prompt, friendly and social. I have to admit that for $11-, it was worth my money. As I said previously, I'm not sure why I haven't come here more often, but I'm about to put St. Pete's on my lunch list again. read more

I popped in this place on a Saturday evening during the Deep Ellum Arts Festival, because all of my usual favorite restaurants in the area had a crazy wait. Trust me, I wasn't expecting much! My tummy was pissed off from being neglected all day and I needed food - any food, stat! Holy smokes, was I in for a pleasant surprise! Tip #1, seat yourself and avoid standing at the entrance like a moron for 10 minutes like me. So my husband had the Fish and Chips - yummmm! But the coup de gras was my dinner. I had the grilled chicken breast (I know, boring right?) and a side of pasta. Normally, when something is labeled "spicy" it's not. I mean, it is for most people - not for me. I enjoy ghost peppers, so when someone considers a jalapeño spicy, well...that just doesn't apply to me. Anyway, I couldn't decide between two of the pasta sauces. There was the Diablo and the Diablo Tempestuous, so I asked my server to recommend one. She said the Diablo Tempestuous was too hot for most people. So of COURSE I ordered the Diablo Tempestuous, I would have been a fool not to! It was spicy! Like genuinely spicy, there was a pleasant burning in my ears and my nose watered - perfect! read more

Every time I got to St. Pete's I sit at the bar. It feels very comfortable, I always get awesome service and I never run out of things to do or TV to watch. St. Pete's is another staple of Deep Ellum that has been around for years, a landmark of sorts now. And why shouldn't they be? They have wonderful food, a great location and strong drinks. I LOVE their pastas. They do an amazing white primavera sauce with veggies that I usually get with fettuccine. The pesto and the diablo sauces are noteworthy, also. Their caesar salad dressing will make me sing (not literally but my heart loves it). And with Marlin in the name you have to know that all their seafood will blow you away. The tuna steak is one of my favorites. I have Pete to thank for my love of Screwdrivers. After two of those with food I would be feeling pretty good. read more

Walking the streets of Deep Ellum on a busy Thursday night, and I ran across this unique restaurant. One would think that with the name and the décor it would be a seafood restaurant. WRONG. Anything but. The menu was complete disarray. There was maybe at most 3-4 seafood items, but the rest was all over the place from lasagna to burgers to chicken fried steak. Our wait staff was nice and very accommodating. The cooks well lets just say I'm happy I didn't face the kitchen or I would have left. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak and I ordered the fried shrimp combo. In less than 10min our food arrived at the table. The shrimp was well seasoned and big, as for the chicken fried steak it lacked flavor and it was super tough. I tried to remind my friend it wasn't our last meal and that we could now check this place off as a place not to return to. After paying for dinner my friend then told me how the cooks were in the kitchen eating and cooking and that the kitchen appeared dirty. Had a busy busy weekend to Yelp about, I had to recover a bit as we'd spent a healthy amount of Saturday evening here at the Dancing Marlin. We started here with dinner and friends before a show at Ad Libs (review to come). Everyone here was very nice, our waitress very chatty and knowledgeable about the restaurant, it's menu and why they have what they have etc... as well as was proud to tell us what they do well. She proudly proclaimed, "we sell more tuna steaks here than any restaurant in the southwest". Well, well... alright, lets just see how good it is then. Many of us decided to go tuna steak with various sides etc... Along with the tuna steak you get the option for veggies or pasta and a ridiculous variety of sauces (too many IMO - pick 2 or 3 and do them well), the waitress with gusto fired off what each of the sauces were and she came to Diablo Tempestuous (hot but hotter with habanero), where they ask you 4 times if you can *really* handle it. I scoff and have decided that's what I'll have with my tuna. I also went with a small salad and a tasty, tart and tangy greek/feta vinaigrette... I would get it again. I'd prefer if they put some feta crumbles on there and had anchovies as an option but I digress. So between the wife, myself and our neighbors sitting directly next to us we ordered our tuna 4 different temperatures. Me - seared Wife - Medium Rare Neighbor - medium Neighbor wife - med well What we got: Me - medium Wife - seared Neighbor - medium rare Neighbor wife - medium well So, 3 outta 4 were wrong... well on the wrong plate that is. For a joint that self touted the quality of the fish (spot on it was exceptionally tasty - even the homemade tartar style), they sure as hell couldn't find the right plate... I'll reiterate so it's not lost, the preparation of the tuna and it's quality are not in question at all, very very good; right amount of seasoning and nice grill char. I wouldn't mind seeing them add a encrusted / seared variety as well. The side of pasta I got was WAY too big and unfortunately convoluted with a myriad of unnecessary vegetation and adornment. I will grant that it was spicy, but some of the spice was clouded by the array of other useless inhabitants in the sauce. My wife got the primavera and also complained that there was too much garbage in her sauce so she didn't eat it. Sorry guys, y'all need to tighten up the sauce conundrum. I'm sure you have lots of patrons that blow smoke and tell you its fine, it's not; it's over done. Not so much that I wont come back, but I won't order either of these sauce types, maybe the alfredo or 4 cheese has a more even hand? Pause, we leave and go to Ad Libs and THEN we come back to the bar for some more cocktails! So, if you've managed to read this far into my review you're probably wondering after how I beat em up on the meal they still get a 4 star? It's the BAR man!! The BAR! It's not some uber over the top stylish joint or some sort of swanky night spot. The bartenders know how to pour a flipping cocktail and they don't go light. Nice selection of spirits and reasonably priced. Next time we're in Deep Ellum, we'll choose Pete's as our bar to socialize and consume. One of our go to places in Deep Ellum. I am obsessed with the roasted garlic app and the veggie pasta is legit. I'm a little sad that my favorite beer they used to serve is no longer being made, but the service is always stellar and they made great recs for a replacement.
