BEWARE: Aggressive Upsell on a Routine Maintenance Visit [[HIGHLIGHT]]UPDATE: UPDATE: I am writing to update my experience with Stable Temp. I initially called the[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]m to fix an issue with my property's HVAC unit. Their technician diagnosed the problem as a failing control board and gas valve, which would have been a costly repair. However, the problem continued after their visit. I was forced to call another company to get a proper diagnosis. The second company was professional and quickly discovered that the expensive parts were fine. The real issue was simply an incorrect setting on the unit, which he believed was improperly adjusted during Stable Temp's visit. He corrected the setting, and the system has worked perfectly since. He also confirmed that the air filter was destroyed by the previous technician. I'm frustrated by the complete misdiagnosis from Stable Temp, which caused unnecessary stress and could have led to hundreds of dollars in needless repairs. -- The initial scheduling with Stable Temp was easy, and the technician, Kevin, was professional. I hired them for a routine $169 maintenance check on a relatively new furnace (installed 2021/2022). However, the visit concluded with a major red flag: a recommendation to replace both the gas valve and the control board for a total of $634.98. This was highly suspicious for two reasons. First, it is extremely rare for both of these major components to fail simultaneously on such a new system. A proper diagnosis should isolate the single point of failure. Second, and more importantly, the initial estimate made no mention of the manufacturer's parts warranty, which is almost certainly still active on a system this new. The recommendation to replace everything at full cost, without proactively checking the warranty, felt like a clear attempt to use a low-cost maintenance call to generate a large, unnecessary repair bill. I declined the repair and informed the company I would be getting a second opinion. *** UPDATE: Manager's Response Confirms Suspicions *** After I expressed my concerns, the manager (Vlad) responded to me in writing. His email confirmed my decision was correct. He admitted that their diagnostic process is not always definitive, stating it is sometimes necessary to "replace one [part] to see how it affects the rest of the unit's performance." This is essentially a "guess and check" approach to repairs, where the customer pays for the parts being tested. He also confirmed that the warranty was only checked after I questioned the initial estimate, which should have been the first step. This experience has shown that their process can lead to recommendations for expensive, non-definitive repairs that may ignore a homeowner's warranty coverage. I paid the $169 diagnostic fee to close out this engagement and am proceeding with a different company. I strongly advise other homeowners to be cautious. read more

This has been a nightmare. Three years ago, this company installed an HVAC package unit on my home, and now, in the middle of winter, I am left without a proper working heating system. Recent maintenance immediately discovered the system they installed--a 2-ton unit--was connected to 10" ducts, which is NOT OK. The unit they sold me is larger than the one I previously had. It's basic knowledge that 2 ton unit requires larger ducts to operate properly. Anyone can google "2 ton package unit ducting" and see 10" ducting is ~400CFM and 2 tons needs ~800CFM. Any response from this company you will see here is unlikely to acknowledge this failure - they sold me a unit that's grossly oversized for my home. This improper installation has caused significant issues. The system is inefficient, working harder than it should and driving up energy costs. It has been damaging itself by burning out due to restricted airflow. When I was using it, the system short-cycled frequently, leading to excess moisture buildup inside my home. The burning components were also releasing harmful particles into my living space, compromising air quality. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I raised concerns several times to Stable Temp after installation because of a strange smell, but they failed to identify their fundamental mistake of connecting an oversized unit to ducts that were far too small.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At one point running the system for four hours with the blower off to try and burn off the smell. It of course didn't work. I've since had three different reputable companies inspect the system, and all have confirmed that this is gross negligence. I've had a static pressure test to further confirm. All agree that the unit is completely incompatible with the existing ductwork, and modification is not a feasible option. My only choice is full removal and replacement of the unit, which has left me with a significant financial and logistical burden. Unfortunately, this wasn't the only poor decision Stable Temp made. They installed weather stripping on the outside of the unit, tried to force in an incorrectly sized filter by bending the frame, and left improper wiring. These actions reflect a complete lack of knowledge or care in their work. Since then, I've found a similar complaint on the Better Business Bureau regarding their installation of improperly sized HVAC systems, suggesting this is not an isolated incident. I requested a refund for the cost of the unit and installation, but the company has refused to take responsibility. Not only do I now have no heat during colder weather, but I am also left dealing with the stress and expense of correcting their mistakes. I trusted this company to provide a reliable HVAC solution, but instead, I've been left with no resolution and mounting costs. I had a refrigerant leak in my AC, and this company was a huge disappointment. The first time they came, they said they couldn't find the leak but charged me $441 for adding 2lbs of refrigerant and a stop-leak sealant, which they strongly recommended. During this visit, the technician broke my vent and told me he couldn't fix it because it was a handyman job and he didn't intend to break it. so I had to hire a handyman myself, which cost me an additional $160. Within 45 days, the AC stopped working again. When they came back, they spent nearly two hours inspecting, only to say they couldn't find the leak again. They wanted to charge me another $300 for further investigation, with no guarantee of finding the problem. I declined, and they still charged me $79 just for showing up. To make matters worse, I found another technician from a different company, and that guy found the leak in just 15 minutes! 4.850 stars. Excellent company. We had a Daikin Minisplit that was throwing an error and initially hired another company to come out who correctly diagnosed the issue. After that company suggested we try to go through warranty, we called the "preferred vendor" Bill Howe, who suggested repair at $1250. Ivan from Stable Temp was excellent. He was willing to, with photos and through messaging, unlike multiple other companies, who insisted on having to come out to the property to assess, to give us a bid to repair the problem (the printed circuit board had gone bad), and also gave us a bid to change out the system for a new system. He also did the research for us to find out if we were actually covered under warranty, which we were not. At the time, Daikin was only offering 5 year warranties on parts, so we were outside of that window. We ended up just repairing out current system by replacing the PCB for about $800 and everything works great now. A+ outfit. Will call them again for any issues. read more

Dmitriy and his team gave us an estimate to install mini split units. After shopping with 4 different companies I elected to go with Stable based on their honesty, warranty, and price. They gave me options for different units and I elected to go with A/C Pro made by Gree. The install of the 4 units went smoothly and they referred a good handyman to do some patch and repair work on window coolers and wall furnaces we wanted removed. The installers were hard working and finished it up in 1 day. Dmitriy also gave me the good advice to mount the pump on the exterior to the siding so our pup didn't pee on it. The only hiccup we had was with the unit not connecting to the mobile app (that I paid a bit extra to add). It took a few techs to come out on different occasions but Ivan finally resolved it. I appreciated the follow up and the units work great so far. The test will be in a couple years if they still do well! I have also referred them to clients for Hvac issues and they even stayed late on a Friday night to resolve an a/c issue. I checked Yelp and found Stable. Gave them a call and they said, "Sure -- we'll send someone over today." Say what?!? I told them to come on over. Vlad showed up -- with a mask, thank you -- checked out the system for about half and hour, and decided I needed a new control board. He called the office and they had one in stock. It was already toward the end of the workday, so we made an appointment for the next morning. This company operates in bad faith, advertising comprehensive services for low prices and once an appointment occurs pulling a bait and switch, demanding more money for services that were supposed to be included in packages per their website. I booked an AC Tune-Up for $89 which was supposed to include a condenser coil cleaning per their website description. When the technician arrived he informed me that the condenser coil cleaning was an additional charge and would cost over $300. I contacted their office to ask for remediation and they confirmed that they're operating in bad faith and claimed that when an appointment is booked for an AC Tune-Up there's a different description provided which indicates the service is merely to "check air conditioner parts and functions" which is not only untrue but even if it were true, would be admission that they're operating in bad faith. I will be taking this matter to court if I'm not offered a full reimbursement. I'm surprised to see so many positive reviews if this is the manner in which they operate... read more

Dinara is a saving grace at this company because she is a good person to communicate with, very friendly and it was easy to schedule appointments. The technicians took a little longer to diagnose and fix my Carrier brand Minisplit but in the end, they did not give up and it did get fixed. It was VERY hot here in San Diego around August to September - We live in a 1 bed/1 bath condo and had NO air conditioning. It was miserable! So we decided to look into getting AC. Called Sunday night, got an answer, they came out next day. Extremely professional and responsive. Edit, They claimed everything was fixed and left. I specifically asked is it working 100% no issues? They claimed it was and left. Next day AC is blowing hot again. Call them back up and they send a tech out after 2 days so now were at 4-5 days of hot air. The tech Vladimir comes out (same guy that fixed it all the first time) and quickly finds a leak, states it will be an additional 360 (added onto the 640 we already paid just for repair). He even argues so loud with me that my kids and wife are freaking out in the other room... Us not being happy with having to pay a new bill after they left stating there were no leaks, I call his manager Demetri. The manager states he understands why we are upset and he will call his technician and figure out what the issue is. After supposedly speaking to his tech, he calls us back and states we still have to pay for the recharge (even though they should of checked for a leak in the first place, causing us to have to pay for 2 full recharges now) and the fee to check if there is a leak, but he said he would give us like 40 dollars off.... manager even said "or we could just leave" giving us the ultimatum that we have to pay the 640 to them and now turn around and pay another company similar and hope they fix it BIG WARNING, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY lol I guess its my fault not using more professional people in the first place and trying to go with a cheaper company. At the end of the day, the company got a thousand bucks out of us for just adding a wire and recharging the system..... The technician arrived and instantly began reciting that we needed a new system (which we already knew if we could get past the HOA rules) even before opening up the system. After going through the system and taking pictures, he said there was nothing he could do . Instead of showing me pictures and proof, he again said their lead estimator would call. When the lead estimator called and I explained the HOA rules impasse, he tells me arrogantly - have them CALL ME and I'll explain why by law they must allow a new A/C system - an HOA board that doesn't listen to me is certainly not going to call at my behest. Then when I ask if there is a way to squeeze a 410 system into the exterior casing of the 422 system I have, he says he'll ask his boss if they want to take that on, and will call back. Had an issue previously and my air conditioner went out during a heat wave and they came out and fixed it quickly at a reasonable price. I tried to use them again recently for a tune up which is the reason for the lower stars. The tech spent the entire time trying to get me to replace my equipment. I have older equipment that's slow and I probably need to think about it but it's still working. I want to prolong what I have even if it's not optimal. I was verbally told a number that doesn't sound right but have to get the estimate they promised me for that almost a week later. I am having one issue with a vent not blowing any air right behind the hvac equipment in the attic. It's about 3-5 feet from the system and the only vent in the house with an issue. I asked the tech if he saw a switch or any vent disconnected while he was in the attic. He didn't see a switch but I have no idea on the vent. It's the most pressing repair for me. Now I'm wondering if it's disconnected or clogged and which type of tech to call. I had made the mistake of assuming a tune up included a filter change as they had done it with my previous call when they changed out a part. The tech asked me to pay the invoice before he left. Once I got the receipt I saw in the fine print the filter was an additional charge. He was already one foot out the door or I would have done it too and paid the extra fee. I'm really surprised neither the receptionist or the tech even asked if I wanted it done with my tune up. The lowered stars is based on this last cal, not getting any info on the vent, not getting an estimate, not getting the filter, and needing to hire another tech to come out now who will repeat most of the same work. read more

I obtained three quotes for a new HVAC system in my 96 year old craftsmen home in San Diego. All it had was an old wall heater, no ducts, nothing else. Dmyitri from Stable Temp spent a long time at my house, patiently answered all of my questions, explained and educated me on different manufacturers, pros and cons, warranties etc. He provided a quote using high end variable speed units which compared almost identically to other quotes using Trane, American Standard, Lennox etc. No other contractor provided different manufacturers, each used Lennox, Trane etc, but nothing else. He also provided a quote using AC pro, explaining the differences between the units and the value using AC Pro which is what I went with, saving over $3,000 yet receiving a SEER rating of 19.5 vs 20 with other top brands. The SEER is an efficiency rating, so the AC Pro was almost as efficient as top brands yet at a significant value. Also, a 10 year manufacturer warranty whereas Lennox offers only a 5 year. Stable Temp scheduled install one week later, told me exactly when they would show up and the entire project would be completed in ONE day. This is a smaller 2 bd one bath home, but one day to install everything, including the ductwork, seemed incomprehensible. They arrived at 10 am, Dmyitri walked his crew through the house with me, told me it would be finished by 8 pm. By 7:30 pm, Art (the foreman) helped me program the Google Nest smart thermostat and we fired up the system. They finished exactly at 8 pm. I've been loving the system since. Stable Temp also scheduled the required testing and permit to follow. If your looking for a small, professional HVAC company in San Diego, that provides excellent professional installation, and great value, look no further than Stable Temp. PS: during the install, another guy showed up to help in the attic, turned out to be the Owner, Vlad. He didn't mention he was the Owner, I found out later. Thank you Vlad for always being there for your customers. As background, our home in La Jolla was constructed in 1972 and while it was very well built, there were definitely some unique decisions that were made when planning for the original heating system. Right after we moved in a couple years ago, we had Vlad and his team come out to replace both units with new furnaces and AC units. One of the furnaces and AC units which fed a large part of the house did not seem to be working effectively (not heating and cooling enough) and Vlad came time and time again to troubleshoot. With the cold winter that we just had, it became apparent that we needed a 4 ton 80,000 BTU unit vs. a 3 ton unit which was installed previously. Despite installing this 1.25 years ago, Vlad took it on himself to replace our 3 ton unit with a larger unit out of the goodness of his heart and after replacing the unit, we still ran into issues as the prior duct work were still feeding air to vents which were closed off. Our AC is one that I considered "ancient" but still in working condition. Whenever we turn it on, it leaks tons of water to the outside of the house soaking our window and the outside wall. I looked on Yelp and found Stable Temp HVAC. Requested a quote, and Vlad responded that he can fit me into his schedule that same day! Vlad arrived at the time that he said he would, identified the problem, gave me a a quote which I approved and returned the next day to complete the job. Why I will always be referring Vlad and his team is because of all of the above, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, he is HONEST and here is why. My A/C was out of R-22 Gas, and I know NOTHING about how much an A/C unit should hold. All I wanted was some relief from the heat. He quoted me 6lbs on the estimate and went up on the roof.
