We almost always see the parking lot packed with cars when it's around breakfast time at this restaurant. We decided to try eating here one morning for breakfast while I was visiting my parents. It's in a small plaza up from the intersection where the Aldi and gas station are located. The parking lot as I mentioned tends to be very full whenever I've passed for breakfast, especially on weekends. When I went in early February, we had to circle for a spot and eventually parked in the plaza where the brewery was. You put your name in with the host or hostess and once your whole party is present, they will seat you. I waited maybe 5-7 minutes before a table cleared up for us. They have a good menu with a variety of options to enjoy from hash scrambles to bakery items seen up front. They also offer fresh squeezed orange juice as well. We all ended up ordering hashes with eggs, cheese, and bacon in them and the potatoes on the side, plus a biscuit. Food took 7-10 minutes to come out. The hashes are served in the skillet pan and are a good size. The food was good and there was enough for leftovers later. I would say the biscuit was okay - it wasn't bad or amazing, but I would admit that I prefer somewhere like Vicious Biscuit for an amazing biscuit. Noise level for breakfast was pretty up there - no one had to shout to hear the conversation at tables, but it was very busy. Staff were pretty on top of things getting dishes out to customers and were pretty polite. read more

Hands down, this is our new favorite (or perhaps I should say an older place that we wish we frequented sooner). We love this location more than the other because it seems like the consistency and quality is just a nudge better here. The food is always fresh when you pop in on a weekend. The waitstaff keeps things moving along but not in a "hurry up and get out" kind of manner. The front folks are always smiling even when you'd think they'd be downright exhausted from managing a waitlist, etc. We really expect this to be added to our normal rotation for weekend brunch - but you have to get in early to beat the rush or just be patient. The parking lot is dreadful, but that's everywhere. The skillets are delicious & the hashbrown potatoes with a heavy dollop of Texas Pete is one of my favorite breakfast sides. As soon as we sat down, I said "black coffee please" and the waiter delivered a whole carafe of coffee for me to keep on the table for refills! If you know me, you know I'm a pot-a-day type of gal so for me this was huge! For the meal, I ordered the Western skillet which came with a base of hashbrowns, sautéed onions and mushrooms, diced ham, and topped with two over easy eggs and cheese. The portion was massive, I'm telling you, massive. I took home leftovers and had breakfast for the next two days! I don't usually reach for sweet breakfast food like pancakes and French toast, but I took a bite of the Challah French toast and WOW! Honestly, I wish I had gotten that. Oh! A little larger and less seemingly crowded than the Waxhaw location, but we found it to be different, preferring the cozy and warmness of the Waxhaw location. Menus are the same, but to us, the kitchen in Matthews was not producing, taste-wise, like Waxhaw. Also, given that there is more space in Matthews, the dining areas are more open and therefore, more chilly. We put our coats on. As with both locations, come early or late if you want to avoid a wait, that can be up to 45 minutes. No call-ahead reservations, and if you have a large group, your only hope is the Matthews location. Try both locations and share your opinions. read more

This Matthews institute of breakfast food has been on my list for a while...the diner style menu has something for everyone. I enjoy smoked salmon and the benedict was a treat! After looking through Goggle to find a breakfast spot to eat at. While our car was being services, we came across Stacks. We pulled up, and the parking lot was full, and I thought it would be a wait. Oh, no, there was no wait and plenty of seating area in different parts of the building. With it being busy, you would expect a little mess, but not they were all working together. Love it! The manager was even constantly scanning the floor and helping the staff as well. Our server Chanita was definitely spot on making sure we enjoyed our breakfast time. She had that same energy at each table. I wanted to try one of those specialty drinks I saw posted on the wall. Chanita kindly said we no longer offer those drinks but gave me another option. Half coffee/ half hot chocolate with whipped cream, oh Yea, it was yummy. I'm calling it the "Chanita Morning Rush" she came up with a solution to keep me happy as a customer. That's what you call good customer service. Now that Big Dad Skillet was a beast, all the best breakfast meats all in one dish. That country ham was light and not too heavy so they knew how to prepare it. I highly recommend it. I must say this mom and pop restaurant is gem you never will forget. Went here about 11:00 AM on a Sunday with sister-in-law and nephew, by his hearty recommendation. Went at this time hoping to arrive between early visitors and after church crowd. Not a chance. No time seems to be not busy. Parking is a huge problem! Limited parking for the strip shopping plaza with some spaces marked for other businesses. Nephew let us out to sign in then circled the lot to find a parking spot. After signing in, about a 20 minute wait for our table, just what we were told. I had perused the menu beforehand and wanted the Elvis French Toast, stuffed with creamy peanut butter and bananas but it was only available on some special days. There were numerous breakfast and lunch choices but I was interested in their special dishes, pancakes, waffles & French toast. I chose the Challah bread French toast stuffed with cream cheese and covered with strawberries and blueberries. It was perfect and the fruits were fresh, not frozen. Sister-in-law got the gravy biscuits and nephew the fish & chips. Both said their dishes were also excellent. Highly recommended, just be aware of the parking issues and wait times. read more

I drive by this place often and never had the chance to stop by. I finally was able to and it was pretty good. Came here on a busy Saturday morning and the wait wasn't too bad- 20 minutes. They have a shared parking lot, but it was pretty hard to find parking. You can sit outside or stand within close range and hear your name being called on the loud speaker. The staff was welcoming and the food came out quickly. The texture and temperatures were great for the items ordered. I had the lumberjack breakfast which was yummy. The prices are reasonable. Stacks get 4 stars basically for the fresh squeezed orange juice. It's something so common in my birth country and here it's so rare. That in its self was worth the visit. The food looks very good (my pic slammed if I may say so myself) but unfortunately everything but the eggs were cold... sadly. Bacon was crisp and fine tasting but cold, toast cold, even the hash browns were cold.. I still ate everything but felt cheated, I didn't say anything because it was noon and maybe most of these are made earlier and then I didn't want them to be warming it up in a microwave or bother anyone to make it from scratch ( also it was during my lunch breaks and I had limited time). I feel bad leaving a not so great review but I was not impressed by this cute little diner. It has the amazing small town dinky diner feel and I'm here for it! But the food was subpar and my omelet was dry and the hash browns were soggy :( The service was great and she was phenomenal. i would not go to this restaurant unless you absolutely have no other choice anywhere. I spoke with the manager. they care more about their process than the customer . I asked for them to assist me with a dietary restriction and refused me. I even said I would pay full price. All of this for 1 egg. they lost the sale, the waitress lost a tip, and if I have anything to do with it this restaurant will loose business weekly. It is now my mission to let the city know you care about your process more than your customers and their dietary needs. read more

I vote for a switch. Any breakfast place in South Charlotte can relocate to Matthews, so Stacks can be within the city limit. I rarely get to enjoy an early morning sit down meal on my days off, because I detest getting up early when I don't need to. That means I can only look at other people's brunch pics and say to myself, "One day." That day finally came. And I was presented with the more glorious pieces of French Toast you could imagine. Word of advice, go with the small stack. I was not only hungry, but a bit greedy, and I still couldn't finish it off. One of the slices had to be 2 inches high. This is the real deal. The place is packed, and there is no surprise as to why that is. All I had was French toast, but my friend had other breakfast options like eggs, grits, sausage, etc. You can't go wrong. Breakfast was a thing for us this morning, and one of the places we decided to try while we were in town was Stacks Kitchen. I called in the order and went to pick it up. I'm so glad I did because the food was really good! Here's what we ordered: Western omelette with cheese ($8.50) One egg scrambled ($1) One pancake ($1.95) Biscuits and sausage gravy ($4.25) Coffee Orange Juice So let's start with the positive...The western omelette was perfect! I love the thick cuts of peppers, ham and onion kinda sticking out of the egg. It was seasoned really nice and was filling! With the omelette came my choice of an English muffin and a cheese grits. The English muffin was nothing special, but the cheese grits were pretty good! My Gf had the biscuits/gravy and single scrambled egg. The homemade sausage gravy, I was told, was everything. I didn't have any but the smiles and mmms seemed to give that seal of approval for ordering this! The amount of gravy you get is a pretty good size too! The single scrambled egg was, well, just an egg and nothing special. Lastly was the single pancake. I like that you can order single serving items like a pancake or an egg if you don't want to commit to a stack. Now, it could have been that I didn't tackle the pancake until the end, of my meal, but it was a bit dense and I really was unable to finish it. I do like the smell of vanilla and fluffy pancakes, but not so much here. I'm keeping in mind this was a to go order that sat for about 20 minutes, so if we dined in it could have been a different story. As it stands it was my least favorite part of my meal. When I paid my visit here customer service was nice and the restaurant was pretty full with diners. Parking lot was a nice size, and I did find a spot but man it was full. In addition to breakfast, Stacks also serves lunch, so if breakfast isn't your thing, come back a little later. With that said, they serve some pretty good breakfast!! We really enjoyed our meals here at Stacks, and if/when we return to Charlotte, we may have some breakfast again right here at Stacks Kitchen read more

This place is crazy. Mike ordered French toast and it was so big of a plate that he couldn't even finish it. He ordered bacon and eggs with it as well and was regretting it because there was so much French toast. The French toast was delicious and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Service was excellent. I had more of a problem than Mike did because the restaurant was packed. It was the first time that I have been in a packed restaurant since the pandemic started and I was not comfortable. I had a waffle and it was very heavy and dense. I had wanted some thing light and I thought the waffle would be light but it certainly wasn't. It was tasty and the fruit on it was delicious as well as the fruit cup that we shared. I would not get that waffle again but I would certainly like to try some thing else on their menu. read more
