Stacks is the first real brunch place I've tried since moving to San Juan Capistrano, and I cannot even begin to express how much we loved it. My husband and I, along with our friends, ordered plenty and shared. While their lattes weren't anything special, the food was AMAZING. The ube pancakes were delicious and authentic tasting without being too sweet, and we loved the strawberries and cream pancakes as well. Our omelette, scrambled, and huevos rancheros didn't disappoint, either. The menu is one the pricy side for brunch, but I think that everything is well worth it. We really love Stacks. It is in Dana Point, right on HWY 1. Parking is easy and the place to easy to find. They only serve breakfast, brunch and lunch. The menu is great and they have food from everywhere. It seems to have a Hawaiian flare, but they also have a Korean dish. You order at the counter and the line can be long, but it is not terrible. Once you have ordered have a seat inside or out and a nice server will bring you the food. Their selection is very good. They have these macadamia nut pancakes which are amazing. This is the only place I have ever had them and I know they are popular there. Their French toast made with King's Hawaiian Sweet Bread is super tasty. Also try their Captain Nut Mac French Toast. I don't care for it. My grandson loves it. It has Captain Crunch cereal and macadamia nuts. He always orders this when we are in town. For lunch we love their turkey avocado melt that is filled with turkey breast, swiss cheese and avocado on grilled parmesan sourdough. It come with a side of French fries, mixed green salad, macaroni salad, or fresh fruit. I love their fries so I always get that. The burgers are great and they make them the way you want. I had the kalua pork omelet with home fried potatoes and a Hawaiian latte. The pork was nice and tender, the eggs were soft and fluffy, and the potatoes were cooked well, although I would've preferred a crisper texture. Its greasy. We went once and had a lemon ricotta pancakes which was great. However, the coffee was terrible. We tried it again yesterday and were greatly disappointed. They didn't have the lemon ricotta pancakes. My daughter ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon, and it was super greasy. My other daughter ordered the french toast with scrambled eggs. It was greasy. Both girls ordered the hot chocolate and the server added whipped cream and marshmallows, except the marshmallows had blue dye and we don't eat artificial dyes. I had the fruit and scrambled cheesy egg. The fruit was past ripe, squishy. The egg tasted off. The coffee was again terrible. My friend ordered another dish and she liked hers, but said it too was greasy. My girls and I had stomachaches all day after eating there. I believe due to the greasiness. Visiting California from Vegas and I saw our hotel was super close to this restaurant! I'm a lover of loco moco and decided my fiancé and I had to have it for breakfast- especially due to the good reviews. The outdoor seating has cute strung lights and heaters for when it is cold. My food came out first, and my fiancés food came out about 10 minutes later.. he had a breakfast burrito. My matcha latte was extremely sugary and very weak on the matcha flavor; tasted like super sweet milk with a hint of green tea. If ever in the area especially during breakfast time I will definitely stop by here to eat. This has to be one of the top breakfast spots in Dana Point. We rode bikes from Doheny State Campground. Bike ride was maybe 15min or so. The uphill battle was tough but can be made. You wait in the line order then find a seat. Orders are taken very quickly and they make sure they get your order right the first time. Place is a little noisy but what breakfast/brunch place isn't. Overall, the food is very good. Ordered the iced mocha latte, and found it to be quite delicious. However, my husband and I ordered three entrees, but we were accidentally charged with four entrees. At checkout, I did not notice what exactly was ordered, but we thought that the price did not match 3 entrees and a drink. When the food was being delivered to our table, we found out that we were charged $16 for an extra entree. We sent it back and they gave us a refund. Towards the end of our meal, a couple sat next to us and the same thing happened to them. They were incorrectly charged and paid more for their meal and couldn't tell despite looking at the screen during check out. Please beware as yes you may get a refund, but if you pay a tip percentage based on the original total at check out, you will not be refunded that difference. I really wanted to like this place. It's local and always busy and who doesn't want a good breakfast joint with Hawaiian influences? This review is based on one visit so take it with a grain of salt - but, the food was pretty uninspired. We got two breakfast items: waffle and French toast with eggs and bacon, and one lunch item: Aloha plate with teriyaki chicken, rice and Mac salad. The waffle was ok - it's not hard to make a good waffle, so that's not too big of a deal. The French toast was pretty bland. It tasted like store bought bread dipped in some factory made batter and served with a side of syrup out of a 55 gallon drum. Same stuff you'd get at Dennys or IHOP. The biggest disappointment was the Aloha plate. The chicken was thin, pale, overcooked/tough - probably made once a week and heated up in a microwave. The "home made" teriyaki sauce tasted like it was actually made in a factory far far away. If it was made on site - the chef should explore some recipe modifications. The steamed rice was ok - tasted like it hadn't been washed before cooking and was made many hours before it was served. The mac salad may have been made on site - but it was not very memorable. In fairness, our child liked the chicken and rice, so, who knows... Sadly, there are plenty of other breakfast options in the SC, SJC and DP areas that are solid, so it's not likely we will be back here to try again. read more

I had the macadamia nut banana pancakes, which were fantastic--definitely a 5/5. Parking is fine, and the service was standard--nothing exceptional, but nothing to complain about either. Seating is first come, first serve, so I'd advise against going with a large party, as finding a spot could be challenging. Whenever we visit Dana Point, we always come here for breakfast/brunch. This is our go-to sit down brunch place for the past 2 years. We love their eggs Benedicts, coffee, and smoothies. My husband loves their pina colada smoothies and claims it's the BEST one in SoCal. I love their ube iced coffee; you can really taste the ube!
