Stopped by Public Downtown after Sunday service with some friends. It was busy, especially the patio, but we were seated inside right away. The atmosphere was nice, and the service was friendly. I ordered the Appetizer Mac & Cheese with added barbacoa. The flavor was amazing, but both my friend and I received undercooked pasta, which was disappointing. The complimentary water also tasted like unfiltered tap water. Overall, I'd give it a 6/10. Great flavor and ambiance, but a few things could be improved. read more

So I had brunch here this morning. It was my 3rd time here. Gotta say, I was disappointed. First off, they are seriously limited in their brunch menu. Couldn't even order a plain omelette. Jenna and Josh are total champions. They are attentive, kind, and amazing at what they do. Josh has served me here a couple times and is personable and fast. Jenna served me on my birthday and she took time to answer our questions and wish me a happy birthday. She suggested amazing meals and was quick with everything. They are both amazing!! I've come back twice recently for lunches and this has become easily my favorite spot in Old Town Murrieta. I happened to get Darrien as our server/Bartender at the Bar again and his service is OUTSTANDING! We saw a few familiar faces of people we knew, other customers we sat beside were very polite and you can tell everyone is in a great mood when they come here. Great music, Great food, Great people. We visited Down Town Public house recently, hearing they are under new ownership. First of all, the service was great, and the ambience is excellent. It is a truly unique place, classy and bespoke at the same time, with a great seating area outside that is equally thoughtfully designed. The food was very good. I had the Chicken is the Real Dill. Okay - if I'm honest, i was expecting a lot of dill- but there isn't really much dill- it's mostly capers and onions. We also had the Eurofries - with the garlic on the side. We really enjoyed those- and we were so glad we did garlic on the side because otherwise there would have been tooooooooo much garlic. Full disclosure - and to the owners - your dish called This Chicken is the Real Dill - your description doesn't say it has onions in the sauce. The sauce is DOMINATED by onions, overpowering what little dill there might have been. As a guy with food intolerance for onions, that was a real bummer to me. I'm still giving five stars though because i like the place! But hey - that dish - with that name? Why not put fresh dill on it like on the Eurofries - and cut the onions - or at the very least be clear in the description that the sauce is dominated by diced onions. read more

I have posted a review previously for Downtown Public, but want to update the review based on a visit yesterday. Five of us went for lunch, we were seated right away. Our server Josh was one of the best I have ever had at a restaurant; friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, Six stars based on his service alone. The food, as always, was excellent. My girlfriend and I split the Blueberry Blood Orange Salad with blackened fish added, as well as a side order of fries. Delicious. We dined indoors as it was quite warm outside. Their patio has great tables with built-in fire pits and lots of tree canopy. This is truly a great gastro pub with a creative menu. read more

Used to be a favorite, but not anymore... Downtown Public in Murrieta used to be one of my go-to spots, the vibe is great, the drinks are solid, and the atmosphere is perfect for a night out. But lately, the food has been a huge letdown. On my most recent visit, both my boyfriend and I ended up really sick after sharing a meal. I barely made it home (if you know what I mean), and he felt awful the next day too. That alone would be enough to keep me from going back, but honestly, the decline in food quality started even before that. Dishes that used to be exciting and well put together now feel lazy and bland. Even simple things, like the hummus plate, are just boring: plain hummus, pita, celery, cucumber, and carrots. That's it. No garnish, no olives, garlic, no flavor, no effort. The Caesar salad used to be one of my go-to favorites, the chicken was always cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Lately, though, it's just been disappointing and bland. For the prices they charge, it's honestly disappointing. Presentation and quality matter, especially when we're spending hard-earned money to enjoy a night out. I really hope they turn things around, because the place has so much potential (food wise) and has been a favorite for years. But right now, it's just not worth it. I seated myself as the girl or hostess says they are cleaning off some tables and will seat these people (that were not here) so I seated myself the hostess brings me water. People start to come they sat down. The servers come right over and take their order never making eye contact. Finally after taking these 3 other groups orders, one girl says have you been helped? I looked at her and said no. She took my order, I asked her were their reservations as when I got here no one was her. She said she apologized the girl was new. She brings my food, but at this point I am turned off to the restaurant and service. I am a black women who came in alone where there were just empty tables. I asked her to wrap this up, so she brought to go containers. I said in the climate of this country this is unacceptable. She said sorry. If I could boycott this place I would. New ownership seems to have made a pretty big dent in their business. Wine Wednesdays are a great experience. My friend and I go and share a bottle of wine, appetizers and desert. Highly recommend the magic bar Desert. I do wish their menu for happy hour had a bit more options, and their general menu perhaps could have some more vegetarian options.
