Very cute diner like vibe. The service was great! My waitress was fast & super friendly. I was completely underwhelmed by the food. I had the chicken parm omelette & the cinnamon roll pancake for my side. The omelette was decent but the fried chicken on top was so bland and the breading was peeling off of the meat. It was very much giving frozen chicken. As for the side, the pancake itself was again, decent but the cream cheese icing that was drizzled on top tasted like the little can of cream cheese icing that comes with the pillsbury cinnamon rolls. I visit often for the Philly Omelet, but today's experience was a huge letdown. The omelet was severely undercooked (liquid eggs inside), and the biscuit tasted like it was directly out of the fridge into a mitco. I ended up leaving 80% of my meal on the plate. This place is at the end of a strip mall and right beside Chilis. The parking lot is pretty small. This place has a digital waitlist on Yelp that we previously used but today was a slow day so we just walked in. This is a brunch spot favorite on the weekend but during the week it is not busy at all. You are welcome to sit down at any open table. You wait in line with the menu and place your order up front. You have to pay and tip before your experience starts. Then you sit down and wait for your food. The food was great and the service was much better this time. We got our food in about 15 minutes. I ordered the Cinnamon roll pancake and chicken parmesan omelet. Be sure to ask for syrup. The pancake tasted good and just like a cinnamon roll. You will need water to wash down all the sugar. I picked a sweet spot time to visit, which was around 11am on a Sunday. Most places would be packed, but they didn't start getting a line until after noon. They have an interesting counter service order procedure where you need to secure a table (on your own) prior to ordering, so they can bring your food to that table. I enjoyed my chicken sausage skillet, but it was oddly kinda sweet. So I put a little Cholula on it, but it didn't change the flavor. Terrible customer service and very unprofessional. I booked a reservation for mother's day and they cancelled the day before due to being "overbooked". They claim their system overbooked them but I booked last week over the phone not online. I was told I did not confirm my reservation but was never sent a confirmation text message, only a message telling me I had to move my reservation because a table was no longer available. My one concern is that it can be quite loud between the music volume and the natural noise of the diners. I read the reviews about wait times and was nervous about coming here but we like to eat local and it wasn't too far from our hotel. We literally got there right before the crowd rush did so things worked out for us. Basically, you get in line at the counter, order and tell them what table you'll sit at. My friend got two pancakes, a side of bacon and grits and regular coffee. I wish I had gone with the two pancakes. The pancakes were amazing and they were huge! The short stack came with four. My friend and I could have split that order. The blueberry syrup was more like a compote to me. It wasn't the texture and taste I was hoping for. The eggs were the liquid/powder kind which I wouldn't have ordered if I knew that. My friend said her bacon was good but her grits looked like oatmeal and did not taste good at all. We decided that maybe it was actually cream of wheat or something because they were definitely not the grits we expected her to receive. Service is top notch. I think this place needs some work. They day we went the system was down, which meant all non-cash orders had to be placed online. This added $1-$2 per item which was annoying. Also, alcohol wasn't available online so that changed the brunch game for us. Food was alright. I've had better pancakes. Wow, just wow! Staks is SO good! This place came recommended when we planned our trip to Memphis, so we made sure to check it out. Specifically the cinnamon roll pancakes, we were told to for sure try those. When we arrived there was a wait, but they got through the line pretty quickly, we maybe waited 15 minutes. Once you get in, it's counter service, and then you go to your assigned table the host gave you. It really is a great set up that I think a lot more restaurants would benefit from. We ordered the cinnamon roll pancakes of course, and then went with the biscuits and gravy for a savory balance to our sweet. Cinnamon roll pancakes, wow, you don't need syrup for these! They are sweet, but not cloying. The perfect combination of a cinnamon roll and a pancake! It still has that classic pancake quality, but really has the bread/doughy consistency of a cinnamon roll. With just the cream cheese frosting on top, it is plenty sweet. We used none of the syrup (and I LOVE syrup) Biscuits and gravy, holy cow. These were DELICIOUS. The biscuits were the biggest, fluffiest, most delicious biscuits I think I've ever had. The gravy was savory to a T, so much flavor packed in I could barely handle it. Such a disappointment. I was really looking forward to brunch here. I ordered the Monte Cristo and my boyfriend ordered the traditional French Toast. We also ordered the Pancake Beignets and the Bacon Sampler to tease our tastebuds. As they were listed as shareables, we expected they would come a little earlier than the food. Unfortunately this was not the case. I did get my mimosa right away, however we were seated close to the bar and I noted the lady making drinks gave me a short pour as she was too lazy to open a new bottle of bubbly. My glass was only half full at best and I later watched her walk by with almost overflowing glasses in every other direction. I have to give it to the business owner though, he gets you locked in from the get go. You join a waitlist, however the waitlist only gets you in a line to order your food. You then have to pay and tip up front. After which you are able to be seated at your assigned table. We were in the wait list for 45 minutes, even though we were quoted 15-20. I'm not too bothered by that though. I love a bougie breakfast and have been known to wait up to two hours for some of my favorite eats (Saddle Creek Breakfast Club in Omaha, I'm referring to you love - always worth the wait). After we waited for more than an hour for our food, we noted those sitting around us receiving theirs before ours arrived. The server finally realized this too as the girl at the next table said "Wow, we got our food before them and we were several people behind them in line". Yah, girl! And your complex food looked amazing. We simply ordered French toast and what was essentially a grilled hot ham and cheese. Finally our food began to arrive. The beignets and bacon did come first, however the French Toast accompanied them. The beignets were not disappointing, I recommend the Carmel dipping sauce! The bacon was mediocre, but don't waste your money on the chocolate bacon. Literally a slice of bacon with Hershey syrup poured over it, which I scraped off after one nibble - can't waste good bacon. With my companion's French Toast plated in front of him, I eagerly awaited my Monte Cristo. Sadly, I had to wait another fifteen minutes before it arrived. My poor boyfriend, being ever the polite one, had to endure his now chilled French Toast because he was waiting for my food to arrive before he began. The bread for my sandwich was soggy, it wasn't dusted with powdered sugar and the meat was three times more hot than the bread itself. My hash browns were missing the cheese that had been added and upcharged for as well. I did point that out and they were quick to correct it, however the correction was added a little shredded cheese and tossing it in the nuker. The server handed me the scorching hot plate with the now sweaty shredded cheddar and I was done. I did eat half of the sandwich and left the rest. Before tip, this meal cost us $55. If your food is good, I will pay high dollar without a second thought. Like I mentioned earlier, I love a bougie breakfast. This was probably the most disappointing breakfast I have ever had. As we left the restaurant, we noted most of the tables had a large amount of food left behind and I can promise it wasn't from the generous portions. There are several other places in Memphis to eat. I love staks. It's one of my go-to places to bring my out-of-town friends or family for breakfast. This was my first time at the East Memphis location. Parking was easy, Staks is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. So you should be good to go if you come for breakfast. When you arrive, you walk up to the counter to order. Once you order you are placed at a table to wait for your food. We ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes, smores pancakes, and the breakfast eggrolls. Everything was delicious! I got to try everything and nothing disappointed. The eggrolls were stuffed, flavorful, and had a crispy outside shell. The smores pancakes were very chocolatey and fluffy. The Lemon ricotta pancakes were good, I do wish you could have tasted more lemon though. The blueberry sauce was pretty powerful. But still a good dish. The service was pretty slow though. It looked like they had a good size team working, but we waited over an hour after ordering when it didn't even seem that busy. So that was a bit frustrating when we had lots to do.
