The best morning bun I've ever had! The walnuts on top really made it. We were here on a Saturday morning and the line was out the door which is always a good sign. The line moved quickly and once you got into the bakery the smells were incredible. The staff was very friendly and efficient. They had a great display of their baked goods, desserts, and bread. I've been here 4 or 5 times now, and am officially a Standard Baking convert! The bakery itself is very warehouse chic but quite small. There isn't seating inside, though there is a semi-covered terrace outside with picnic tables if the weather permits. Oftentimes, there will be a line out the door, but the folks that run this place are efficient and the line moves pretty quickly. I've tried a bunch of things from here -- the asiago cheese bread, chocolate cookie, lemon tart, brownie -- but the financier is what keeps me coming back. It is just SO good, chewy on the inside but crisp and caramelized on the edges, with a nutty, chocolate-y luxuriousness. When I brought my mom here during her visit, she loved the financier so much that we ended up coming back three times in three days to order more. Pro tip: if you know what you want to order, you can pre-order for next-day pick up on the website. This'll save you from having to stand in line: you can head straight to the pick-up tent and they'll bring it right out to you! read more

Cookies, pastries, breads, seasonal offerings... my eyes couldn't settle down. It's overwhelmingly beautiful to look at, and the flavor, freshness, and texture bring it home. I bought an Asiago fougasse that was gorgeously colored, with cheese of just the right thickness: not so little as to burn, not so much as to be undercooked. Things that confused me: -They have a huge parking lot but it appeared to be staffed and possibly paid. There were signs about having your car ticketed and booted -yikes! No one was at the podium when we pulled in so I just hurried in and got my goods hoping for the best. -I asked for Irish soda bread to complete my order and the two people working the front first asked what it was and then said they didn't have it. Hard to believe at a bakery a week before St Patrick's Day. Thankfully another customer overheard and showed me where it was. The two working front said they had "never heard of Irish soda bread." Great lamination, perfectly crispy, and the perfect balance between the buttery pastry and sweet chocolate. The cardamom bun was very interesting and something I have never had before. Denser in texture, the aromatic cardamom taste was strong and delicious- almost making this pastry more savory with hints of sweetness. Overall, super great pastries and would definitely recommend. Tried a sample of their Cheddar Ale bread which was incredible and definitely tempting to get a whole loaf. Began a day in the Old Port at Standard Bakery. The ginger lime scone had a perfect texture and combination of flavors without being overly sweet. We came here on a Saturday morning, and there was a pretty hefty line; probably a 15-20 minute wait. There's a ton of parking right outside the bakery, so no issue there. We started with a blueberry oatmeal scone. This was just ok; honestly quite dry, with little to no flavor, and overall just a bit hard to eat. Probably should have used some butter or some jam, but didn't think to. The chocolate pecan cookie was pretty decent. The cookie was just a bit too soft though, without any crispy edge, and also too sweet. The pecans didn't really shine through at all. The morning bun was good! Not too sweet, pretty moist. The almond sable was definitely my favorite. Didn't realize it was basically a shortbread cookie with a filling, and this was right up my alley. A MUST stop for anyone who loves baked goods! You will want one of everything and it is so hard to limit oneself with all the delicious looking and smelling bakery items. Great selection of just "regular" bread loaves, baguettes, and boules, and a wide variety of sweet and savory bakery items. Everything we got was unique and delicious! Wish we could have tried everything there! Their galette was perfect consistency, being both firm, but crumbly as it falls apart in your mouth (and very buttery!). Croissant is one of the best that I have tasted and fantastic warmed up. An olive bread (don't remember the exact name) had great flavor and lovely crumb and texture. Chocolate chip rye cookie was perfectly soft and not too too rich. One drawback is only two parties are allowed in at a time (so you might have to wait for a bit) and it is quite small and crowded inside. Unfortunately, looks were a bit deceiving. The scone was tough - it seemed like the dough had been overworked. The flavor was there, but the texture wasn't. The croissant didn't have that flaky crust, and kind of reminded us of a store bought version. Everything here is amazing. My husband and I stopped by 3 times during our trip to Portland and ate some amazing baked goods. On our last morning there, we made sure to stop by and grab a box of goodies to take on our flight home. Some of our favorites include rosemary focaccia, croissant (i know this seems like a normal regular croissant, but it was so buttery and delicate - def a must get!), morning bun with walnuts (you would think of this as your standard somewhat dry type of cinnabun - but NO - this was so moist and delicious!), asiago fougasse (THIS IS A MUST GET - this was our absolute favorite), chocolate pecan financier - omg i don't know how they make this thing so jam packed with different textures, proscuitto and asiago croissant, and the frangipane tart (this is my husband's favorite thing). 10/10 would recommend! read more
