    Blueberry lemon tart

This bakery is popular for a reason. Yes, there can be lines but on the week days it moved very quickly. If you're on vacation for a week, definitely add this spot to your to go list for breakfast on a week day. There is very limited seating outdoors. Literally 2 tables so don't plan on eating there unless you get really lucky! We tried a lot of the bread here but notably the caramelized onion & olive foccacia is extra delicious. The Maine 5 grain and Maine Miche loaves were great even after bringing on a quick flight and freezing it after getting home. My favorite item was the blueberry lemon tart which we went back to eat again the next day. When in Maine in the summer, you have to try the blueberry items. You won't regret it!

"I wish this smell was a candle" are the words my husband used when we walked in! We could've ordered one of everything We got there around 3 and just in time to beat a rush. The items we tried were ball delicious and sadly gone too fast. My favorite of what we tried was the plain Croissant and the vanilla bean Madeline!

Stopped by Standard Baking Co. and left very happy. The croissant was perfectly crisp, shattery layers on the outside with a soft, buttery interior. The lemon tart was a standout: bright, tangy curd with a crisp shortbread crust, not overly sweet. The poppy seed bread was another highlight, dense and nutty with a great chew. And the frangipane pastry rounded things out perfectly almondy, rich, and not too sweet. You can tell everything here is made with care. Will definitely be back!

Terrific bakery! We stopped by Standard Baking Co. We got lots of stuff to sample. The croissant was fair. But the financer was amazingly delicious. The blueberry tart was excellent. The morning bun was delicious. This is a great bakery.

Wonderful! They have a great system down to efficiently manage the amount of visitors. We ordered a baguette and blueberry lemon tart. Both were fantastic! We will definitely be back next time we are in Portland and try some new items.

Came here in the morning while we were walking around. So excited to try! Inside is full of so many delicious looking pastries. I ordered a cheese pastry and loved it! It came out warm and it hit the spot on a cold morning. No seating inside but the workers were so friendly. I would come back to try another pastry or get the same one! Yum!

Stopped by Standard bakery for some goodies on my way home from Portland. They never disappoint. The wild rice porridge loaf is really good. Hearty, wholesome, crusty outside, soft inside. I also had a cheese, egg, ham Danish that was fantastic. I also tried a chocolate chip cookie that was phenomenal. And a scone with blueberries that was fantastic. Service was kind. It was a straightforward experience. But the visual of getting to see all the breads for me was awesome. No seating. And they did have some coffee. I will be back for more.

A Maine local friend highly recommended Standard Baking to us. He said their sourdough is out of this world and also reminded us to skip the scones (they are rather dry). Honestly, I truly think this bakery is truly living up to its hype!! The line was very long on a weekend morning, but it moved fast. We only waited 20 minutes in line. The Maine Miche Bread, a whole wheat sourdough, was my favorite of this haul. Crunchy crust, soft and tangy interior. Only $8.50 for a big loaf. 10/10. Blueberry Lemon Tart blew our mind. It was SO DELICIOUS that we almost went back to wait in line again. We should've tried more tarts and fruit pastries. The croissant texture was perfect, and so as the pain au chocolate. Flaky and buttery. Morning bun was sweet, sticky and satisfying. Just a note that many baked goods are made with almond flour, like the fruit tarts. For those who has nut allergy, remember to ask the staff.

This bakery is all over Instagram as a must do, so we put it on our list of places while we were visiting Portland. The service is fast, people friendly, and the establishment clean. I have to give it a 3 because everything tasted alike. We bought the ham and cheese croissant and the chocolate croissant. Both were mostly air and puff pastry. I had one small piece of ham in the ham and cheese and it was at the very end of the croissant. The same issue with the chocolate croissant. There was very little filling in both. We also tried their morning bun which appears to be made of the same dough, and was lacking flavor. We also bought a lemon tart, but have not eaten it yet. I'm hoping it redeems the disappointment of the other items. Not a place I need to buy from again. Just okay.

A customer presented me with a box of goodies from here and wow! Super fresh and super delicious. Pretty to look at too. I've wanted to go here for some time so I was so happy with my gift! Delish! *I gnawed on a cookie before I took the photo

Every one of our road trips to Portland always ends with a trip to Standard Baking... we are seriously addicted to this place and have no self control when it comes to buying boxes (yes, plural! haha!) to bring home with us! Standard Baking is a Portland staple. Their homemade pastries and bread are top tier. We can't pick any favorites, because we always leave with a little bit of everything! I recommend ordering ahead of time for pickup, otherwise you will be waiting in a super long line! If you are like us and prefer to go in person to see the selection, make sure you go early in the morning to avoid a long wait (but we promise you, the wait is always worth it!) Parking is like most of Portland - there are paid street spots or lots available in the area.

One quick update: as a cooking school graduate, it's easy for me to fall head over heels for cooks and Bakers who do incredible things. So my heart beats faster for Standard Baking. But here's why I'm writing the update: I bought their pastry cookbook before I left Maine, because I so enjoyed their vibe and their breads and pastries. The cookbook was produced with the same level of enthusiasm, attention to detail, and awesomeness as all their breads and pastries. So, if you love cookbooks or would like to be able to take a little of Standard Baking's heart and soul home with you, treat yourself to a cookbook!

Standard Baking was one of the most recommended bakeries, so we had to see what the hype was all about. Reviews suggested there would be a line, but don't let it by a deterrent. There was a line, and it did not move as fast as expected. There were so many bakery items to chose from, so we ordered a variety. Some items were ham and cheese croissants, granola bar, chocolate chip cookies, brownie, and morning buns. We were not disappointed by any of items, except the ham and cheese croissant had mustard , which we did not expect, but it was notated on the sign . The brownie and cookies were excellent, so fresh. The croissants were flaky and buttery. It does help if you know what you want when it is your turn , for faster service. I would have liked to try their breads and tarts..highly recommend .

Best chocolate croissant I've had since living in Paris some decades ago! Also, the lemon tart was light and had a lovely sour bite to it.

We enjoyed the multiple various treats. The rye bread was a favorite. Looking forward to trying additional options when back in the area.

My wife and I really wanted to try this flavor. Located in the busy Scarborough Walmart plaza area. Located right next to Jersey Mike's with plenty of parking nearby. Walking inside you will instantly have your eyes catching all of the delicious looking Bundt cakes staring back. They have a huge variety of flavors available including the Biscoff speciality and another limited flavor "New-Fashioned Marble". Due to wanting to try both of the limited flavors we decided to grab one of each of their smaller sized cakes aptly named Bundtlets. The staff member was friendly and it took no time to receive the cakes. Gladly we were able to enjoy the cakes once we got home and they were great! Both cakes were excellently made and the smaller sized ones were perfect to enjoy with no leftovers. The frostings used leaned quite sweet so for larger cakes it maybe would have been too much. They are limited flavors but if either one sounds tempting to you make your way here before they go away! Look forward to returning in the future to try out more flavors. Worth giving a try!

She was absolutely lovely to work with! Very responsive to emails and phone calls, and super flexible and helpful with pairing flavors for us. She made a variety of mini-cupcakes and frostings for our tasting and each were delicious--even the margarita cake! As someone who does not like chocolate, I would have eaten the chocolate ganache frosting with gusto. We ended up choosing traditional flavors: red velvet with cream cheese frosting for the bottom (12") and top (6") tiers as well as vanilla with chocolate ganache for the middle (8"). We had just shy of 60 guests at our wedding and were able to take the entire top tier home. She understood the type of design we wanted for our cake (very simple and clean, which required the use of fondant). Our guests enjoyed the taste, though they thought it was "a bit sweet" (probably due to the fondant). The style was what was in my head but not executed as cleanly as I would have liked--in the days before Pinterest, brides didn't have 1,000 images to show their baker, after all--but I was still happy with the price, taste, and service and would recommend her to friends. I'm pleased to see that she now has her own storefront. I have yet to visit, but plan to rectify that soon.
