I have heard some very positive feedback about Standard Pizza, but I have to say my experience was very average, if not absolutely below expectations. I visited the location on Haywood, and well I can't rave about the experience. Maybe it was a busy day or maybe the manager was out on extended leave with health issues or maybe the whole team decided to take a fail on my order that day. Either way, the service was not friendly, not fast, and not impressive. Look, I get this is just pizza, but I had hoped it would at least be memorable. I have lived in NYC and I have had great pizza .I didn't expect NYC quality and flavor, but what I got was something akin to a floppy, slightly more tasteful than average tasting vegetarian pie- and without a hello, smile or thank you to top off the service in the cramped, dingy pizza kitchen. I got the pie to go, and I had a few leftover slices. I love second day pizza. not this one though. Threw it out on day three uneaten. The pizza gets a 5/10, as it was average,and even a little disappointing, but the service and location get a 1/10. Service is the easiest thing to get right- it's practically free and shows you care and want the business. Give me an overpriced pizza pie from a pizza chef who takes pride and treats customers like they are welcome. Come on guys, I know you can do better!! Overall, Standard Pizza on Haywood gets a 3/10. I personally like my pizza a bit crispier plus when we arrived there were no more slices, so we had to buy a whole pizza which I was not exactly wanting since my wife, and I like different toppings. After brewery hopping downtown Asheville all day, we needed something to soak up all the alcohol! Standard Pizza Co. was a convenient half mile walk from our Airbnb. The menu is straightforward with simple options, no frills. We ordered cheese sticks and a pepperoni pizza. It was an easy 15 min walk so by the time we got there, our order was ready. Got some to-go brews as well! The guys behind the counter were super friendly & provided great customer service. The pizza and bread sticks were delicious. Perfect crust to topping & sauce ratio. I like regular and wood-fired pizza. For regular pizza I go to Standard PIzza on Haywood. The employees there are particularly nice and fun! Plus, they make great pizza and they sell slices, but their slices come from a 20" pizza, not 16". They are big. And filling. And really tasty. They have one called the "Supreme." It is literally loaded with quality deli meats. The "Garden" is loaded with vegetables. They are generous on all their pizzas. Hey, they have fresh basil and black and green olives! They have top notch local beers and carry PBR, regular and non-alcoholic! Last, but certainly not least, they are all truly nice and kind. They always take care of me. We were in search of a nearby pizza or pasta place and found Standard through a Yelp search. After looking at the menu, I settled on a side greek salad and two slices of meatball pizza. Several others in my group did the same. Ordering a salad and a slice. Our salads came out quickly and it was amazing. I know, it's just a salad but it was the right balance of toppings with a flavorful dressing. Nothing I hare more is being left with a ton of lettuce at the end. Each bite had some toppings and lettuce. It was delish! My two slices were really good. They are larger slices than if you ordered an actual pizza so count on being full from 2. The meatball was really flavorful and the pizza sauce was really tasty. My only eh was that because they are slices, they tend to dry out. The cheese gets funky and dry when they have to be reheated with the toppings. Not the end of the world, but I miss the cheese being stringy on a good hot pizza. It just didn't happen. Very classic style pizza with a crust that is fresh, soft in the middle, but keeps its shape under the weight of your toppings. We had half Supreme and half veggie, both classic, not much to say there. We ate in the dining room and I was surprised with how decent the red wine was, not stale, and a good pour (whew!). This ol' standby on Haywood Rd. offers good pizza for a reasonable price. You can order a large (16") or a medium (14"), or you can just order a slice. All the specialty pies can be bought by the slice, which is nice. I've done so thrice, twice while splicing iced rice with Bryce. Somebody stop me. Our Garden Salad was good, although the choice of dressings was pretty limited (balsamic or creamy Italian, that's it). Our Margherita pie was great, LOADED with fresh tomato and basil. Where to begin. Stopped at Standard Pizza Co around 9pm because they are open til 2am and we were feeling pizza. Brought a group of friends and got a bad vibe right after we opened the door. First guy in the group went to hold open for the rest and as we start walking in, and an employee basically pushes through so he can light up a cig. Ok... Meanwhile we get mean mugged from the man at the cash register as the rest of our group comes inside to order. We decide to give them the befit of the doubt and decide to stay and order. As soon as everyone (9 people) are in line another individual, maybe the same employee that ran out but can't tell because now he's wearing a mask comes up to us and tells everyone to GET OUT OF THE WAY. Ok good sir please direct us where to form a line to order? Whatever, we want pizza and do our best to "get out of the way". The cashier continues to roll his eyes at us as we order and makes several offhand and rude comments. Everyone in our group was polite and did our best to order efficiently. We finish ordering a sit down. After about an hour and 15 minutes the first pizza comes out. Over the next 20 minutes more are delivered by a third employee. The very last pizza was coming to the table and the employee slides the scorching hot/steaming pizza into my friends lap and onto his hand. Several slices land upside down on the table, and a substantial portion of the 'za is ruined. The employee looks at him and asks if he "needs a rag". We get that accidents happen and it probably wasn't intentional (who knows) but to not offer an apology, of any kind, was appalling. The employee never offered to remake the pizza, comp the pizza or anything of the sort. A few minutes later another employee walked by and we informed them about what happened and they apologized on behalf of the culprit. After nearly all the pizzas were finished (1.4 hours in) the breadstick appetizer was finally brought to the table. This was a trying experience and so ridiculous it's almost comical, aside from wasting almost 2 hours from our collective lives, and burning my friends hand and ruining his shorts. Aside from the appalling service and treatment of us customers, the pizza wasn't all that great either. HUGE disappointment and never somewhere I or my group will recommend. read more

This is a "hole in the wall". But their pizza is pretty good! We both ordered by the slice where they add the toppings on a slice of cheese and heat it up. 1. Supreme - generous amount of toppings are topped off with cheese to keep everything held together. 2. Veggie - loaded with standard pizza veggies but not cheese sprinkled on top so it is virtually impossible to eat without a knife/fork. Also they include large onion slices that are very overpowering. I've been ordering from here for over a year, but I feel like the quality has taken a dive.
