We went again and the service was still amazing but the food was really off. They do have great mozzarella sticks but they were odd shaped this time like one was really big and not melted all the way and one was super small. No big deal though! Our house salad was really good too! But the lasagna was not that great. It lacked a lot of flavor and needed more sauce. My fiancée got hamburger steak with peppers and onions. He said that it lacked seasoning too. We'll definitely go back one day but I will not be getting the lasagna again! It's your basic restaurant setting with tables and booths. Looked really clean. Best restaurant food this side of Patton Avenue, really nice people, a nice place to dine with great atmosphere or get a to-go order to please the family at home. I'm a 20+ year customer of Papa's, and I think they finally lost me as a customer last night. We ordered takeout, 2 orders of mozzarella sticks (which were for two different people), a gyro platter, and several extra sauces. I had a bad feeling when I went in and the person in front of me was having an argument with the checkout person not honoring a discount. I got my order, went back out to the car, and realized "these are only 2 boxes and there should be three! And I don't see a salad or sauces either!" I went back in to ask, they had combined the mozzarella sticks into one, said a salad did not come with my gyro, and gave me a couple of the sauces. I went back out to my car to recheck my ticket to confirm that it did come with a salad, and went to go back with my receipt, and they had LOCKED ME OUT OF THE RESTAURANT. I knocked on one door, went back and forth from one door to the other, LOCKED EYES WITH SEVERAL EMPLOYEES, including twice with one who has worked there as long as I remember. Finally after knocking and knocking, they answered the door, and finally gave me a salad. Once I got home I realized they had given me a Greek salad WITHOUT DRESSING. Once I got back home we realized that they STILL did not give us our entire order. We ordered two orders of mozzarella sticks, each supposed to come with a sauce, and ordered two extra, so we should have had four. Even after trying so hard to get my entire order, we had ONE sauce. Two people, who each should have had 2 sauces, had to together share one. Like I said, I have been a 20+ year customer, I live in Leicester, just about everyone I know either does or has eaten at Papa's, this was once my favorite restaurant. Been eating here a few times a year for a decade. My latest meal was not great...borderline bad even (Hamburger steak... is it still apple brandy beef?) **Takeout Order during the 2020 COVID19 Pandemic** Service- Zero of the 5+ workers at counter or kitchen were wearing masks or gloves. This was alarming, as service industry professionals there seemed to have no regard for public safety or at least the hospitality to show that respect. The pizza was below average, a little better than your chains like Papa Johns or Pizza Hut. Tastes of frozen ingredients and preservatives, especially the crust which tastes lifeless and the texture was almost stale. The cheese is heavy and greasy (which is fun, admittedly) and toppings were decent- fresh slices of roma tomatoes and pitted kalamata olives were certainly a step up from the chain stores, so that was cool. Garlic was nice and flavorful. Mechanics of the Pizzas were clearly rushed, slices were cut very uneven and cheese and toppings did not cover the full area- weird black bits of something burned speckled a section of one of our pies. We are foodies and/or healthy eaters, and we typically travel into AVL or WAVL for food that comes with higher quality ingredients. We value that. Maybe you don't, that's your prerogative, but this is my review. You do you, I'm just presenting facts. Somebody will appreciate it. Verdict- it's ok, if you like lower quality ingredients. Not anything organic or local or vegan or loved can be found anywhere on the menu. But it's better than a Hot Pocket! read more

Me and my family found this place a few years back and have been addicted ever sense. The food is all made from scratch in house, and we have yet to find something that is not absolutely amazing. I especially recommend the papas spaghetti combo! Sandwiches and pizza are all perfect as well, prices are great for the amount of food you get, I mean really, I am a HUGE eater, and I still can't finish. Leftovers are a must! Servers are always nice, though it can get a bit busy, and Don't expect a super fancy interior. They always keep it clean, Cousy, and welcoming though. Just don't expect Ruth Chris. We've eaten here for more than 22 years and tonight was probably the last. We ordered to go a chicken Alfredo and spaghetti with meat sauce with two side salads. One was for a family member and one for us. Upon reaching the family member, we discovered there were no salads. Salad dressings, but no salads. We called and they said we could get a refund. So we went by there and was given $5 for a $38 order. On the menu a side salad is $6.75 so maybe at least $10? They offered $4.50 and when questioned was given $.50 more. Seemed annoyed and not friendly. Got home with the Alfredo (which was ordered with sauce on the side) to find no sauce! Everything was ice cold by now, so we called back. Was told it wasn't ordered with sauce on the side (it was) and put me on hold for several minutes. Finally came back with an offer to remake it... three trips to the restaurant for one meal? Also the chicken was very unappetizing, not in chunks but almost ground up. We understand short staffing and mistakes but the total lack of any effort to make it right or even sympathize was slightly shocking! So.... we had to throw it all away and eat something else. I was so excited to order and pick up food from you all yesterday. when the woman brought the food out to me she had no personal protective equipment on. when I saw this I questioned her about it. I had an extra mask in the car and was goi g to offer it to her. before I could do this she told me that she refused to wear a mask and that if she got sick and died she would go to her cloud and that was what her grandmother said. I felt accosted by her belligerence. I am not interested in what her grandmother said about death and dying. I have a medically fragile child who I need to protect and I need to stay healthy so that I can care for her. if your employees do t mind getting sick and or dying that is all well and good but it is not at all ok to put other people at risk. I have eaten at your establishment for years and years. I am so sad that I will no longer eat your food again. it seems to me that if your customers were important then you wouldnt allow your employees set the precident. it was arrogant for her to tell me how she feels about her own mortality rather than concern herself about your customers. my hope is that if she does get sick that she will stay away from the hospital and deal with it herself and reserve the medical professionals for people who are humble in the face of the pandemic. read more

Decided, based on reviews, to venture to Papa's Pizza. From what I read, I wanted to love this pizza. Service upon pickup was good. The place was hopping and the lasagna and meatballs coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic- huge portions. We got a Greek Pizza and Pepperoni Pizza. It was just fine. I don't like to give bad reviews for locally owned establishments, but I feel I have to for this one. We moved here two years ago and this place is close by. We ate here quite a bit, because it's slim pickings out this way, restaurant wise. The food seemed pretty good. We liked their subs. One night, we got an antipasto salad with our meal. I ate the majority of the salad and became very sick. I've since heard of several people getting food poisoning from this place. I will never go back. This place really needs to clean up their act. Disappointed. I ordered the spaghetti combo and Greek salad. Two stars because the portions were large, but the quality of ingredients were just awful. The sauce was not enough to color all the noodles white to even pink. The bowl held a massive 13 - 16 ounces of noodles (store brand, no doubt, from the store down the road. I recognize it). In the sauce there were 3 bland meatballs, about 7 - 10 sliced mini sausages (canned?), about a tablespoon of diced green peppers, a tablespoon of diced onions, and about 5 small sliced mushrooms. If it weren't bad enough, all the veggies tasted like the frozen mix the store down the road sells...probably from the same grocery store they bought their store brand noodles from. The salad was a bland combination, called Greek because feta cheese was tossed on top. The dressing was, again, the store brand Italian dressing from the store down the road. I got take-out trays rather than try to eat it there. I figured I could doctor it up at home by adding more sauce maybe...but the quality of noodles present a challenge. Besides, there was an aggressive house fly that I had to swat away between bites. I gave up and packed it up in to-go trays. I realized the restaurant seemed entirely run by kids. It's summer. School's out. My bill came to $14.71 tax total. When the cashier asked if I enjoyed my meal I said "no it was awful". She replied "that's nice, your total is $14.71". I don't think she ever looked up at me. What plagues this restaurant, I think, is an utter disregard for its operation and what it presents, from the greasy re-used salad dressing decanter to the lack of care and preparation for the meals, to the swift, dismissive and inattentive staff. This type of restaurant may work fine, profit wise, by an interstate perhaps. But this restaurant serves locals, primarily. And although this restaurant has been there for a few decades it was always vacant looking in the parking lot. Now, finally, I know why. read more

I have been on a quest for a real Gyro. Mist places have Lamb strips from the food supplier. I am searching for a real gyro with carved portions if seasoned Lamb. I ordered the Gyro platter. The portions are generous and the Greek salad was flavorful. But the lamb was flat am mostly flavorless. The atmosphere is informal and I see a lot of families dining here. I drove a few miles out of my way to try this place and unless I find myself in the neighborhood again I probably won't be back. Lastly, upon arriving home my clothes smell like Grease. It's a common problem at many restaurants but they should do a better job of controlling atomized grease in the restaurant. read more

My husband and I go out of our way to go to Papa's Pizza. In our opinion, they have the best cheesesteaks in the area. Their salads are good. We've had the Greek pasta, eggplant parm, the spaghetti dish with everything in it, and so many other menu items. The fries are homemade and good. We've enjoyed every meal we've had at Papa's Pizza. I should have written this awhile ago but I'm doing it now! Papa's is the most wonderful place and not just because their food is great. I'm from a small town in PA and one of the things I missed most was local restaurants owned by good people, where I could become a regular and get to know the staff. After only a few visits to Papa's they knew me by name and I always receive the warmest welcomes :) If you haven't been here do yourself a favor and go! I'm convinced one of the reasons their pizza is the best in town is because it's owned and operated by such wonderful people. read more

Two visits. On both occasions I felt that the pizza was OK. Nothing special, nothing bad. The crust was average at best. They put the cheese over the toppings to bake. Personlly I like that style, especially if the cheese is top quality and thick which gives each bite a smooth consistency. The problem with this method of baking is the toppings don't crisp up at all. Soggy veggies is a big turnoff for some. My second pizza was way off on the distribution of the toppings. One slice I get a ton of them and they're dripping down my chin, next slice not much at all. It's close to home and I'll be back. Consistently very good food with an awesome waitstaff. Hamburger is beautiful to look at and just as tasty. Eggplant on spaghetti VERY good. Chicken gyro platter will not disappoint.
