This place has good ambience--its a super quaint, dimly lit pub that's great for a casual date. The draft prices are really good, and their beer selection is pretty comprehensive. However their food prices are outrageous for a pub. Don't get me wrong, the food is good... but really? $12 for a burger? Its a burger. I ordered the cheese and meat plate... and I wish I had known that i'd be getting one of each: one type of meat, one type of cheese. That's it. For $10. fail. My brother got the pork sandwich, which they said was absolutely delicious--so no complaints there. The fries were super crispy and delicious, and I could have eaten an entire plate of them. Lastly, the menus are all up on chalkboards. Cute, yes. Bad for those with vision or neck problems, since the chalkboards are way up high and on opposite sides of the room (drinks on one side, food on the other). Go there, it's fun. The food is great and the offerings are varied. The wall mounted menu is a bit of a pain for multiple reasons. The first being that if you are seated with your back to it, you have to turn around completely and shun the rest of the table while you decide on what to order. The second and more annoying is that if you are seated directly under it you are forced to deal with every other person in the place looking right at you with squinted eyes for the duration of your meal. read more

I am going to preface this review, and the reason it gets 4 stars, is that I bought a t-shirt here with an unicorn on it. Unicorn's kick ass! Came here with the family (about 7 of us) for dinner while in town. Beer wise, very good selection. I had a couple of Dogfish 90 minute IPAs (along with Powers whisky!). I ordered the brats & kraut for dinner and man was that good. And they have Brussels sprouts here! I love those things. There really is no menu here, per se - its whatever they are serving that day on the boards. However, if it wasn't for that unicorn... I would give this place 3 stars as (1) the service was very lukewarm that night for us - they had a big party taking over the upstairs part at 9pm which made us chopped liver and (2) my wife ordered the chorizo & mussels, so of course they run out of chorizo and substituted Italian sausage instead... which wasn't too bad but there could have been a lot better communication and less confusion going on. read more

Standard's the name, standard's the game. It's pretty much exactly what you expect from the name: standard bar fare and standard local craft brews. Let me preface by saying I was a hefty amount of beers in from the free concert at the Piazza when I wandered over to Standard Tap with the drunken munchies. Pretty solid food menu and an extensive beer selection. I wish I was a bit more adventurous, but I opted for a burger with bacon and a Yard's Brawler. They didn't have blue cheese as an option for topping, which sucks, but overall, I had no complaints for he burger itself. Nothing great, just okay. One would say...standard. Friend had a giftcard so I can't comment on the prices, but it seemed pretty normal. The upstairs bar with the open windows was a nice change of scenery from the dark downstairs. Might be back here if I'm in the area, but otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

We didn't enjoy our meal. Scallops were extremely salty. Side salad was for some reason spicy. Burgers didn't have any complexity of flavor beyond the burger flavor. Buns seemed buttered or oiled (burger meat already has enough fat), it was overkill. Overall, meals were very heavy. We won't be coming back. After a long day of drinking at Frankford Hall, we were looking for a spot for dinner and ended up walking here. They had a big table for us on the second floor. I had the burger, and it was just what I wanted. It was perfectly medium rare and the monterey jack cheese with mushrooms and the onions were the perfect toppings. I've been a fan of Standard Tap for a while now. The food is excellent and the beer selection is always good. They have some decent events. My favorite would have to be there annual Pumpkin Head. Where they pour around a dozen pumpkin beers on tap and you get to drink them out of pumpkins as long as you get there before the mini pumpkins sell out. Look out for this event the Thursday before Halloween defiantly worth sneaking out of work early for if you a huge pumpkin beer fan. read more

I don't know what I was thinking last time. I must have ordered the wrong thing, because I went back to Standard Tap yesterday and had a much different experience than I was expecting- I was mightily impressed by the brunch here. I got the goat cheese, tomato, and basil omelette, one friend got the burger, and the others got the avocado toast. Definitely make sure you ask if the dish comes with sides-- I didn't expect the hash brown (which is exciting!) or the size of the biscuit I received. Plus, my friends got an entire avocado on their plates! I was pleasantly surprised by the fries, which were light and flavorful. My omelette was really tasty. I thought the portions were great (even erring on the side of larger than expected). I suspect that the last time I was here, I just ordered a dish that was portioned smaller because it was a dessert. This time I had at least a four star experience. But the reason for the fifth star is where the food comes from. I asked the waitress (who was great with questions about beer, too) if they source locally-- not only does Standard Tap support local agriculture, but it also gets organic supplies as well. I hope that, in the future, Standard Tap can express this more clearly to customers, because it explains the pricing of the dishes better (and makes me feel good about eating it in the process!). read more

The place has decent food and good beer selection, but nothing too special. When I don't feel like beer I get the Mussels & Sausage and Hanger Steak & Fries, both of which are decent. Met with friends here for a late happy hour. Its located in a neat little neighborhood a few blocks away from all those loud venues in Northern Liberties. They have a nice little selection of local-ish brews, but today they failed me in my time of need for a pumpkin beer. DISCLAIMER: I didn't eat anything except for a few stolen fries (that were pretty good), so the dining portion of my review is through vicarious experiences. DISCLAIMER The food everyone else ordered looked and smelled pretty good. The sandwiches were enormous, and generously filled, but one of my friends' sandwich rolls was soggy and fell apart in her hands. I smelled some sweet potato fries that were probably good. Overall it seamed like a nice neighborhood bar, but seeing how this isn't my neighborhood, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here when I have some great options within walking distance. Their acclaimed burger wasn't memorable or great by any means and I haven't had it since. Went there tonight, was pleased with the excellent bartender downstairs and honestly... from sitting at the bar, I'd say the service was better than I remember. She was also quite knowledgable, didn't catch her name. The food was good and the "steak and fries" were surprisingly well-done. 3.5 Stars It was a late Sunday when i decided to head here. I was in the mood for a burger and some beer--and this place jumped in my head. I've been meaning to stop by here for awhile since my friend lives a few blocks away. Being that it was my first time, i wasn't sure how the place was set up. I figured that a bar that served food, was just that...a bar that served food. However, this place has its unique style. The menu (both the food and beer selection) are written on the wall, one behind the main bar, and in the other dining room. I found this out the hard way. As my group of 4 sat down (it was all our first time), I waited for our server to bring menus or simply greet us--it was a bit late but the guy was very down to earth and friendly. I ordered the standard burger and fried mussels. I ordered a beer as well, i forget which one, but it was really good. The food was mediocre, nothing too "wow". This is probably because i make a pretty good burger myself. I asked for medium rare, but it came out well. The mushrooms on the burger was perhaps the best part. The fries were too greasy for me, but its so dark that some diners might not even notice until you actually eat them. The fried mussels were over breaded (in my opinion) which rendered the actual taste of mussels. The place had pretty good music. They played some hard rock (the modern stuff), which is fairly hard to find at some establishments, so that was a plus. Overall, it was a nice night out. Would I stop here again? Sure, probably for the beer. read more

Back in June we were in the Northern Liberties section of our favorite city, Philly. We were in the area for the Philly Independent Film Fest and had some time alloted before for a great meal ... we used a "rival" phone app that rhymes with "FlurbanLoom" and were lucky enough to find just what we were looking for - a great burger and beer spot. Well neither of us actually had a Burger but I certainly enjoyed the beer. Our server Kate was right there as we sat already to get us boozin, I went with the Brotherly Suds as recommended and the FIC opted with a Ketel and Soda. Onto the Grub ... started out with some fairly local and very fresh Little Shemogue oysters paired up with a little summer vegetable medley of carrots and fiddle headed ferns ... so fantastic. For our entrees we both went with seafood, She with the Seafood Stew and I with the seasonal Softshell Crab. Now we had a little hiccup with the entrees .. the stew was a bit bland ... really nothing to scream (or Yelp) about ... the softshell did everything it should have ... served with a cliche corn salsa, ultimately we probably should have gone burger for the entrees. I'm not complaining -- this was a killer place, at one point apparently it was an Inn and it was brilliantly converted into a great place that is a local fave. Service was spot on, ambiance fantastic and we will certainly be back next time we're in the area. I just think we may go a little safer with the entrees ... read more

I love this place and am especially such a place exist near me. First of all, great beer selection from local breweries and brews from surrounding regions. Everything (beer and food menus) is on various black boards and I never got a portable/paper menu there. That is definitely part of the charm. Typically, I go straight to the bar and grab a pint before standing in front of the food board while tasting whatever random beer I settled on. The inside of this place is very interesting, because they created different 'atmospheres' in different areas. The downstair has more of your local bar feel and it feels more divey, and gets more quiet near the back. Upstairs is a whole new place. There are at least 4 atmospheres up there: a cafeteria like area, a cozy-romantic bar area, a great heated patio, and something that looks like a reading room/cafe. Basically, this place probably has a place to fit your taste. Food: generally they have been good. I admit that there is no one food item that keeps me craving for, but I do like how they change the menu to keep things interesting. Overall, yes I will be back. read more

Really disappointing. Our waiter was either inexperienced or disinterested. I ordered their chicken pie which is their specialty. It comes on a bed of greens with a mustard vinaigrette. I don't care for mustard so I asked if I could get something else. He said no- it's mixed in something about onions. Now I'm confused thinking it's in the chicken pie, so he says you can get it on the side. More confused. I end up getting it without the vinaigrette, so no dressing only to find out the chicken pie is simply sitting on a bed of greens exactly as described. Apparently, they have no other salad dressing. We were there for brunch 1/2 hour after they opened. Only 1 other couple so far and they don't have any orange juice. Really? You can get OJ anywhere. You should've known the day before you were out of OJ and someone should've stopped to get it on their way in. Mimosa's on your specialty brunch menu and no OJ. Got diet sodas. They were flat. Waiter #2 stops to check in on us and he tells us they're aware and haven't been able to figure it out. Just keep selling it and not saying anything. We stopped in for a quick drink on our wanderings through the neighborhood a week ago on a Friday night. They have an interesting list of beers available, even if it isn't the most extensive list. If you go in with your heart set on a specific brew, you might be disappointed, but I was able to find something that fit my palate. In my opinion, beer joints that force you into this situation have staff that fall into one of two categories: beer snobs that look down their nose at you, or beer enthusiasts who want to make sure you find something you'll like. Standard Tap falls into the latter category. It took us a minute to decide on a beer, the bartender was patient (went to help others, but kept an eye out for us), friendly, and helpful with suggestions. We tried a couple of pretty good beers, but I can't really remember what they were. This place seems like a home town pub with a focus on an interesting rotating draft list. It seems like a good place to go and hang out all night. I can't speak for the food. read more

I have been to Standard Tap a bunch of times. The burgers, duck salad, beet salad, and fried oysters are effin' delicious. The hangar steak is tougher than Mike Tyson before he became a bumbling idiot and started biting peoples ears off to save face. The atmosphere has to do with the crowd and the staff, and changes on a nightly basis obviously. You can't beat a cheery server, but I'd like to beat the shit out of a crappy one. The problem with Northern Libs is that the egos take up more room than the people do. With that said, if you want good food, go to Tap. Beware.. you may drown in hipster sweat. read more

I must admit, I tend to get better service at The Memphis Taproom, but this time our waitress was great. Had the smoked rabbit quesadilla, beet salad, and split some asparagus with the wifey. Great spot in northern liberties! This places has a great atmosphere and a really awesome outdoor spot on the second floor. I've been outdoors during warm and cold weather and it's always comfortable due to the heaters. The only downfall is the drink prices. I really enjoy the food at Standard Tap. It's high quality, the portions are big, and they always have a lot of specials. The chickpea sandwich and the burger ar e really good, and they had a stellar rabbit stew on special recently. The fries are also excellent. They have a great tap list that always has some classics but also some interesting beers that you don't see at most craft beer bars. However, I do not really enjoy the chalkboard menu. The problem isn't even so much that I have to get up to read it, it's more that I have no idea what is in any of the items and it's hard to know if a 'lamb sandwich' is going to be more like a gyro or a lamb steak on bread, whether it comes with cheese/veggies/sauces on top or anything except that there will be lamb and bread. I don't mind asking the server but it's nice to be able to compare options to be prepared to order when the time comes. Also the beer prices are very high. They were sellingsome kind of rare special beer aged in wine barrels for $11 a glass the last time I was in...literally the next night I was at a bar in Old City and the same fancy beer was $8. If anything I would expect the prices to be higher on drinks in Old City. I've always felt that Standard Tap is a little more expensive than it should be...it's always satisfying but for No Libs I think $10-15 for entrees is more reasonable than $20-25. Brunch is really hard to do reasonably here also- they sell a lot of brunch mains that are over $15. I'm sure we'll keep coming in though because they have great food. read more

Overall: good food, good atmosphere, good beer. Standard Tap is almost exactly what you'd expect when going there. I'm sure by that point you've Yelp'd it and are looking forward to a good restauranting experience. It lives up to that, I'd say. The food is spot on for a gastropub and you won't be disappointed with the selection. I had the Double Standard Burger (12oz versus 8oz for the Standard Burger) and it was fantastic. One of the best burgers I've had in the city so far. As usual, I would recommend this no more cooked than medium-rare. Very tasty, very filling. Fries were average. Wife got the duck salad, which was also very good. The duck was actually warm which is always a plus in my book, as oftentimes they throw cold meats on salads which isn't to my liking. The duck was juicy and just the right amount of salt (read: a little too salty for some people). The greens were...greens (sorry, the duck is really all that matters on this dish). Friend got the ham and brie sandwich. I would say the best thing about this entree was the portion size. One might expect a ham and brie sandwich to be two slices of meat with a little bit of brie and some veggies. Wrong. There was about 1-1.5 inches of ham on this thing. And the flavor was great. I'm not a HUGE brie fan, but I still enjoyed it. Again, the fries were average. Dessert was peach cobbler a la mode. This was very nice, and very different. By different I mean that the breading was extra thick, so that your first bite has barely any peach in it. This was actually not as bad as it may sound, because their breading is awesome. Beer: solid selection, but nothing to write home about. It was "Flight Night" when we went so were were able to get two different flights of three beers each. One was $6, the other $9. They have a fair selection of the usual brews and plenty to keep you entertained for the night, but maybe not enough to keep you coming back to try to types (unless they rotate their list out regularly, which I don't know). The bad: we sat on the terrace which was great, however, they use two chalkboards for their menus (don't even have paper copies) and these were annoyingly placed where you have to be at one of two or three select tables in order to read them. We had to keep getting up to look at the menu before we could order another round. All in all: I'll be back! read more

I went here with a coworker for lunch and had a so-so experience. The service was pretty good and the atmosphere was fine--pretty typical gastropub decor. We shared a large salad and a burger. My main gripe is that the waitress asked us how we wanted it done and I specifically said, "I'm not picky, just not pink." That was the pinkest burger I think I have ever had. It was hard to enjoy it because I was so disturbed by how bloody it was. I got a little bit sick later in the day and I think it was because of it not being cooked enough. The salad and fries were tasty although nothing outstanding to make up for the pink burger. I think I would probably try this place again but I wouldn't get a burger next time. read more

Went upstairs on a weeknight and it was empty with music blaring so loud we had to yell to hold a conversation. Burger was what was to be expected. The mushroom cuban sandwich was really small and lackluster for the price. The chef used not pepper but half cracked peppercorns (ton of it). It was overpowering, made my stomach and sinuses hurt. I am sad because I have been going here on off for years... probably won't be back. read more
