Everyone knows I'm not a big fan of dessert (I'd rather eat a second lunch than eat dessert normally), but not at this place. My friends and I ordered a half-dozen to bring home for New Year's, and all the flavors we got were fantastic. The only flavor I wouldn't recommend was one that had some sort of Orange Glaze on it. I simply found it too sweet as it tasted like the donut had been covered in Fanta, or some other orange soda. Best donut by far was the coconut one that had some sort of coconut-vanilla creme on the inside. Other donuts were great as well. Service was very quick, and prices were great (only about $1.50 per donut). read more

Absolutely amazing donut selection! My favorites are the orange old fashioned and the dreamsicle. The only drawback for this place is its inconvenient location. There is no place to park (without getting booted or ticketed) so you can jump out and grab a few donuts. read more

I LOVE STAN'S! They have Intelligentsia coffee, my fav! This place never lets me down unless you go close to closing time when the pickins' are slim... It's yummy donuts and if you have a problem with this place it's because you have no taste and you are that person who loves Dunkin Donuts (boring, basic, ordinary plain and not willing to go outside of the box!) I've had every donut they sell -- not all at once, over time :) -- and they are all fluffy and sugary and just amazing. Btw I am a huge fan of sweets, like, no joke lol. The one exception is the peanut butter pocket, that one is yuck! I still give this place high marks because they have more than enough different flavors to overcome one crappy mistake! read more

Dunkin Donuts, WHO? I am a donut addict. So when I walked in, it was donut galoreeeee. My oh my. My absolute favorite is glazed.. Always has. Always will be. Of course it was delicious. Best donut I've had in a while, and yes I have been to donut places other than Dunkin Donuts. I love the décor in here. Cute 1950's feel to it. I don't really frequent the blue line, because red line all the way. However, if I am in the area again, I will surely make an effort to stop in and try few other flavors. I usually don't write negative reviews and often give a place a second chance but the customer service at this place is so bad that I have to let others know. Mind you, I tried (in good faith) to contact the owner, Rich, about my complaints (see below) before yelping via phone and email several times and I got ZERO response. This was almost a week ago so clearly poor customer service is present across the staff and management at this joint. Here's my experience: I go to the Wickerpark store with my 2.5 yr old son, 15 month old daughter and my sister/nanny almost weekly after my son's Lil Kickers soccer class. My son loves the donuts, which are good but EXTREMELY overpriced. When we ordered, I asked the girl behind the counter for my son's donut (chocolate frosted) to be in a separate bag because I didn't want the chocolate to get on the other donut for my daughter and my son loves having his own bag. We go to pay and the girl put the donuts in the same bag even though I asked her minutes before not to do that. We were the only ones in line so the employee was not busy just didn't listen since she was clearly distracted my the other employee/friends behind the counter that she was talking to. I again asked for another bag and separated the donuts myself. This is the THIRD time that this has happened to me :( Ok, no big deal. We moved on and ate our donuts. When I was started to clean up, my sister attempted to put my overtired daughter into her stroller. She threw a temper tantrum and started screaming. Granted, my daughter DOES have a very loud, shrieking scream but the employees behind the counter were so rude and obnoxious I truly couldn't believe it. Once my daughter screamed, two employees (one with freckles and very short brown hair; one with dark longer hair and dark glasses) started jumping up and down while covering their ears. I could hear them saying "oh my god, my ears, my ears..." Then they were starring at us (covering their ears) saying that my daughter needs to be quiet. Um... She's 15 months old and we were trying our hardest to remove her from the store as quickly as possible (we were the only ones in the store at the time). All this time, my sister is trying to buckle her into the stroller and I was sincerely apologizing for my daughter's tantrum. Nobody acknowledged my apology. The employee with the dark glasses just kept covering her ears and starring at us. Once my sister had taken my daughter outside of the store minutes later, this employee was STILL covering her ears as I was finishing the clean up of my son. I told this employee that she can uncover her ears now because "it is over. You can't hear my daughter anymore because she is outside!" As I left with my son, she still covered her ears. I won't be purchasing these donuts again. There are tons of other places in Bucktown that I can get overpriced breakfast desserts (Goddess and The Grocer; Glazed). I just hope the employees do not decide to treat other customers in a similar manner. I am sure my daughter is not the first (nor the last) to throw a temper tantrum in a donut shop. Hopefully, the owner can resolve this and work on his customer service skills because I believe this is the key to any good business!!! read more

An 'A' for the biscoff pocket! Stan's was my first experience with this spiced cookie spread aka speculoos, and I'm a fan. I don't believe any other doughnut shop in the city is using speculoos/biscoff in a doughnut, but I could be wrong. The yeast dough was soft, and the biscoff filling was a nice change of pace from jelly doughnuts. I also purchased the twisted cinnamon sugar pretzel-shaped doughnut. This one I found to be unremarkable and slightly dry; however, I arrived around 5pm on a Saturday so it might've tasted better had I picked it up in the morning or early afternoon. It seemed most of their flavors were sold out for the day at this time so if you want a larger selection of doughnuts, I recommend stopping by earlier. From photos I've seen when the case is full, it seems Stan's offers more flavors each day than Doughnut Vault, Glazed and Infused, Firecakes, and Do-Rite Donuts. I would like to go back and try some of their old fashioneds and compare them with Doughnut Vault's. I've heard Stan's orange old fashioned is great. There's counter seating and a communal table to enjoy your doughnuts. read more

Wow. I went the other day hoping to buy a couple doughnuts but as I walked in they told me they were closed. Before I could express how ridculous me actually walking into the building and yet they were "closed" felt to me, a lady who I only assume was a supervisor or manager told the guy at the counter to give me whatever doughnut I wanted on the house. Wow. That alone was awesome and what was even more awesome was the Pistachio/Lime glazed doughnut that I picked out. It was delicious. Awesome doughnuts. Awesome first experience. I went back just yesterday on Valentine's day for some doughnuts for my family. Service was great , even though they were very busy. Picked out some doughnuts that were delicious including a blueberry fritter ! A peanut butter, banana with chocalate glazed "pocket" and a couple heart shaped cherry filled chocolate doughnuts for my daughters. The one thing that I didn't like was the price. $15 and some change for 6 doughnuts? Yikes! Great taste. Great service. Way too pricey. read more

I don't think I actually had good donuts until I moved to Chicago. Seriously. This location is awesome - right by the Damen Blue Line stop, so you can grab a coffee and/or a donut before you head to work. The place itself is tiny, this is a grab-and-go joint. They have a whole case full of all different flavors of donuts, not to mention gluten free options (if that's your thing! I want to try them all!! They had a few samples out, so I tried those. Donuts were good but they were out of the two best donuts on the menu at 10:00 am in the morning. I certainly can understand since it was St. Patricks day and many people were walking by to go to the parade. What I couldn't understand is that after paying $25 for three donuts and two drinks the staff told us the two bathrooms were out of order. Stan's imitates other gourmet donut shops and tries to distinguish itself only by over charging. 3 bucks for a large lukewarm coffee. Another 3 or 4 bucks for a donut that is on par some mornings with other nearby donut shops, and sub-par most mornings. This place will probably be around for a while given the profit margins. At least its interior seems appropriate for a saccharine donut shop. read more

I love real donuts. So, a place like Stan's seemed welcome at first, but three visits have confirmed this faux retro donut shop is just another in the line of overpriced assembly-line bakeries serving sickeningly sweet and gigantic versions of a pastry that used to be meant for one person. The main issue is the glazing, so sweet and cloying that the cake donuts are virtually inedible and definitely a health hazard. Not that donuts aren't inherently unhealthy, but you really don't have to try to make customers ill to prove a point. On each of three visits, the servers were rude and not at all helpful, always picking up the wrong donuts at first and then saying things like "well you should have SAID cake". For the price of one Stan's donuts, you can get a half dozen truly traditional and superb donuts at Munster Donut in Indiana. If you like donuts, get a few friends together and take a ride to a REAL old time donut shop in Indiana and you will see how cynical this place really is. The 2 stars is for the blueberry yeast donut, which was not as sweet as the cake variety and had a nice texture. read more

We were blown away by how much better Stan's glazed donuts are compared to Glazed and Confused. We also ordered the Bacon long-john - again amazing flavors . Stan's is a solid choice for donuts, truly a great choice among the ocean of donut shops around Chicago. The donut selection here tends to be a little heavier and sweeter (the banana biscoff, chocolate glazed, fruit danishes, etc) than some of the other shops in the city. I love the banana biscoff pocket in particular but am also a fan of the various old-fashioneds and their glazes. The only problems I have here are that the donuts can be on the heavier side and the more unique options often run out early, leaving only staples like the biscoffs or buttermilk bars if you go anytime in the afternoon/evening. read more

On 5/10, we bought 4 Old Fashioned: 2 pistachios, 1 vanilla orange, 1 chocolate - 3 were dry and stale. They tasted like leftovers from 2+ days ago. Most of Stan's donuts are good. I ordered a half dozen to split between friends and some coffee. We tried the blueberry cheese, plain glazed, apple fritter, chocolate glaze old fashioned, Biscoff donut and a Boston creme. We made a mistake getting a plain glazed because it was fairly average. The Boston Creme was disappointing because the creme wasn't sweet at all. The apple fritter and old fashioned were good and are probably very good when absolutely fresh. If you have experienced the apple fritter from Old Fashioned donuts it's hard to eat one after that and not expect disappointment. My personal favorites were the blueberry cheese and Biscoff. The blueberry cheese is a danish but in donut form. There's just the right amount of cream cheese to blueberry. The Biscoff tastes just like the cookie but was a tad too lite with the filling. The service was very good. I liked that one of the employees took drink orders as people waited in line. It was operating very efficiently. I think they did a nice job with the design and getting the most seating out of the small shop. Personally, donuts aren't worth driving great distances for but if you're near by and craving something sweet, Stan's is a solid option read more

I was visiting the Chicago area and ended up at the Woodfield Mall. My husband and I had plans to eat downtown later in the day but had not eaten all day so we decided to get a snack to tide us over. We saw Stans Donuts and I did not have much desire to even look because I do not eat gluten. While my husband was browsing their amazingly colorful showcase, I saw a sign that said 'gluten-less' donuts. I asked about it and they showed me 3 choices. I just started a diet and was tempted not to get one but I caved. OMG - the BEST gluten-less donut I have ever had. I do not regret it! I actually went back 3X to buy a box of donuts for my kids and of course a box of glutenless donuts for myself for the freezer! I had another one today (so much for my diet lol) but day 2 was almost perfectly fresh as yesterday. I am not allergic to gluten but I also get a classic stomachache if I each some and I have had no problems at all. This will be my #1 treat to purchase when I go to Chicago. They have both yeast and cake like donuts but the gluten-less donuts are cake like and they literally melt in your mouth (NOT hard or tough). I wish I could meet Stan and give him a big hug!
