They don't have an optometrist in house. The exam is done by remote control and the off premise doctor is supposed to read results and write a prescription. I was there for two solid hours trying to get glasses-i have never spent that long. And most of that time was waiting on the optometrist, it seemed. The optician I had was very good, but he can't finish an order without the doctor's input. The icing on the cake was being slightly overcharged because they rushed on the receipt knowing how long I had been there. This is my first time using an optical shop that was not a true optometry office, and I won't do it again. If you have vision insurance, there's no advantage or discount to coming here. If you don't, and you have a lot of time to spare it may be worth considering. And this shop can do walk ins, which could be convenient for some folks. read more

I hate to give such a low review, but I have to give others a heads up about my experience. For awhile I have been thinking it might be time to look into glasses or contacts. I saw the ads for Stanton, and they had a deal. Free eye exam with glasses or a package for contacts. They were able to see me same day so I went for it. First I had to do a series of eye tests and then I went into a room where some guy, (the doctor?) is on a tv screen and proceeds to run through another bunch of tests with me. At first I wasn't even sure if he was real person, that's how stiff he was. It was kind of awkward. After that the girl who did the first tests walks me to the front to wait for my prescription, and suggests I look at the glasses. I am pretty particular about my style and I can tell within the first 5 minutes that none of the glasses are for me. As I'm waiting, the guy in the front who I assume is the manager, calls the back and rudely barks orders at someone working in the back. And I mean, he's being a total dick. Then he walks over to me and tries to push me into buying glasses. I politely decline and he presses further, wanting to know why I don't want to try any. I explain to him that I am looking for a particular style that I don't see, and he is visibly annoyed with me. After waiting for about 20 minutes the girl comes out and tells me they don't have the right contacts so they have to order them. A week later they tell me they have arrived. Unfortunately I have the flu. I also don't live very close to that area, but my husband happens to be over there the next day so I ask him to pick up my contacts. He calls me and says they refuse to give them to him. I HAVE to be there. I ask to speak to them and remind the girl that I paid for my prescription, (more than what the advertised specials was, btw) but no dice. I finally go back in to pick up my prescription and she gives me ONE pair of contacts. I tell her I want to buy more and she has to ORDER them. Why couldn't they let me know this over the phone? It's now been 2 weeks with no contacts. I ask again for my prescription because at this point I'll just get the contacts somewhere else. She says the doctor isn't there and they'll email me my prescription. Never got a call. Then the quarantine happened. Cut to 2 months later and I finally go down there to get my contacts. The only reason I gave the place 2 stars was because the lady that was there yesterday was super nice and apologetic and gave me an extra pair for the long wait. However-They're not even the right prescription. I have to go back again!Conclusion: go here for cheap glasses and nothing else! New update: So I was just contacted privately by the customer we hide prescription was accidentally given to me! She has been waiting for a month for her contacts. So not only are they giving out patients information, they didn't resolve the problem by sending her a new prescription, which is what a professional business would do, but they've made it the customers' problem! No customer should have to track me down- or be able to- to get the prescription that they need and paid for. I went to my first appointment in January. Still nothing, except somehow I now have the responsibility of getting a stranger her contact lenses. I'm outraged and so are they! UNACCEPTABLE! I have had a wonderful experience with Stanton Optical on Murphy Canyon Road, San Diego. Everyone I dealt with have been professional and accommodating. The staff are awesome with their positive attitudes and willingness to assist however they can. I, also, purchased the buy one pair and get the next pair free and very happy that I did. Both pairs are progressives and one pair I added the platinum blue anti-glare coating as well as the UV protection for the computer work I do for ten+ hours a day. They have a huge selection of frames to choose from and I couldn't be happier! Today, I had an appointment with the Optometrist, Dr. Houchin, and she was excellent and had a great sense of humor. On the day of my appointment there were two of us arriving at the same time. She handled us both effectively and without delay. I was there for the "two pairs of progressive lenses for $99" deal. After the exam I was directed to a wall of frames and they were all $169 up. After a few minutes of looking I inquired about the frames included with the deal. There was a nice selection of frames and I was assured that they all contain a one year warranty, or was it guarantee, not sure. The bill shows a sub-total of $503 minus discounts and taxes. The total came to $106.67 and that I "saved $454". I expected an up-sale pitch, but Layla said my prescription wasn't very strong and therefore the lenses were not too heavy, and that I probably did not need any options. I haven't seen too many deals where the advertised deal was what you got. One pair of glasses came in on time and it was a five-minute visit to pick it up. The second pair was delayed for a week for an unspecified reason. When I picked the second pair up the store was very busy. The two employees where waiting on two customers, and there was five or six others in the store. It might have taken ten minutes. Very smooth. Very pleasant. Both employees are 5-star in my book. BUYER BEWARE I paid $200 more for my service here over eyeglass world a few years ago. $500 for 1 glasses and 1 sunglasses is extremely expensive. Your Dr is in Florida, and you have a video appt. My glassess are progressive, that is the only add on. The sunglasses came in with barely a Tint. another 2 weeks to correct, Than they sent them to the wrong store to pick up. You will be better off, paying for the prescription and going someplace else. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect, since this is a discount optical place. I had been going to a different optician for years & was happy, but then he retired. I decided that two pairs of glasses plus an eye exam for $59 wouldn't be terrible if I wasn't completely thrilled by the service, but I was pleased to find out that the service - and more importantly, the prices - were extremely satisfactory. I didn't end up getting the "2 pair for $59" deal because I didn't love the frames available in that deal, but the amazingly helpful assistant (I think her name is Sam, but I would have to check my paperwork to be sure) told me that another deal they were running was a BOGO on any two frames in the store. I found two frames that I absolutely loved - one of which are designer - and walked out with one pair of glasses specifically for close up reading books & computer screens (with anti-glare), and one pair of distance glasses for reading the projector screen at school or nighttime driving. I was so impressed by the friendliness & professionalism of the staff that, after picking up my original two pairs of glasses, I decided to buy a pair of prescription sunglasses for daytime driving. Only $99 for any frame in the store *excluding designer* and that price includes the polarized lenses. I will definitely be back again next year for my annual exam. Honestly, the best experience I've ever had at an optical store. Completely no pressure for upgrades, extra features, rush delivery, etc. I never felt like they were trying to oversell things I didn't need, which always helps. The one thing I will note, while not really a con, per se, is that the eye doctor is not on site, so the actual exam (which is better, A or B...) was done via teleconferencing & computer assistance. The absolute worst place to get eye care. The "doctor" was immediately rude and questioned and belittled everything I had to say or ask. He had the worst attitude before the exam even started. He then skyped in a real doctor to do the eye exam and took 15 minutes to re enter the room after the exam was over. They then told me they would email me my prescription because the prescription had not been sent in by the real doctor who "was just out of office" but is permanently located in Florida. I never received the email until I followed up with them, in which they sent me a blank email with no message or subject line, just a PDF. Worst service ever. Went to Stanton Optical for my first pair of glasses on July 6, 2021, because of the commercials I see almost every day. It was certainly not the good experience that the commercials say it is. There was only one person working in the store and he was definitely not having a good day. I wanted the 2 pair for $59 that the commercial advertises and he pointed me to a wall to try on different frames while he helped 1 of the 2 other people in the store. I was disgusted at how dirty the glasses on the wall were. They were so gross that I didn't even want to touch them. They obviously hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. I found one pair that I liked and of course those were $200+ instead of 2 for $59. I decided to go next door to another eyeglasses store and was met by a very helpful staff who guided me along the way, which is what I wanted. There were baskets there to put glasses that were tried on in so that they could be cleaned before being returned to the display. That's how it SHOULD have been at Stanton, especially during Covid. Night and day from what the commercials portray to the reality. I bought the glasses from Walmart. Their service and cleanliness were impeccable. I won't be going back to Stanton again. read more

Great prices, spotty service. My eye appt was via video chat with an intake receptionist, you never actually see the optometrist. They gave me a prescription I knew was wrong and wouldnt work, then insisted I try it out. I've worn glasses since I was 7 years old. I know the process and what works for my eyes, and this was not it. So I went back on a Thursday, the only day an optometrist is there, and she agreed my prescription was all wrong. I ordered 3 pairs of glasses. One came back with the proper prescription, the other two needed to be sent back and took weeks! Good thing I didn't need them asap. read more
