Cool little place to grab a bite. You order at the counter and seat yourself. I'm quite the burger fan, so I was surprised when a friend suggested this place and I hadn't heard of it before. Be sure to be looking out for the building because you'll miss it if you aren't paying attention. There was parking on the street but I don't think there is much of a parking lot. Lot's of burger choices but you can customize them to have whatever you want! Great selection of both local beers and some wines. We were in the area and wanted some lunch. Stanton's came up during our YELP search but we weren't sure if we wanted sandwiches or were in the mood for something else. In the end, "something else" caught our eye and we started driving towards it. But, once we passed Stanton's, we literally stopped the car and turned around! One thing is for sure, Stanton's is EYE-CATCHING you cannot miss the building and it draws you in. It's bright blue on one side with a giant mural of a couple painted on it. Gorgeous. We saw that Stanton's was not allowing dine-in service so we made an order online while seated in the car in front of the building. While we waited, we decided we had to have a mini photoshoot in front of the beautiful mural! And so we did. After getting some great shots, we decided to check to see if the food was ready. We stepped inside to a nice-sized restaurant with more interesting murals on the walls inside. It was very quirky with tchotchkes and Knick-knacks everywhere. It really gives 1950s diner vibes and seems like it was a super cool place to eat in. Unfortunately, all the chairs were turned over on top of the tables making it clear that no one was to dine inside--I'm guessing it's due to COVID. What a sad time we're living in. :( It made me think of all the businesses, especially restaurants, that have lost revenue during this time. It made me feel good to be supporting Stanton's. I know that every dollar makes a difference! Anyway, our food was ready when we walked in and a nice guy behind the counter brought it out right away. It smelled AMAZING! I couldn't wait to dig in once I got home. I'd ordered the chicken club sandwich, on a bun instead of toast, with no bacon. Unfortunately, the sandwich does not come with fries. I'm not a fan of when sandwiches that don't come with fries. Fries are a given and I don't like having to order them separately. To supplement, I ordered the "waffle bites". My sandwich was tasty! The bun was lightly toasted but still soft. The meat was seasoned well and covered with cheese and tomatoes. I dug it very much! The waffle bites were delicious! However they are less waffle bites and more waffle fries that are made in the style of nachos. I would possibly consider a new name for these but, whatever you call them, they were DELICIOUS! They were covered in melted cheese, jalapeños, sour cream and they usually come with bacon but I opted out. They'd gotten slightly soggy on my 20min ride home but they were still so good! I forgot to get a pic of my fiancé's food but she also ordered a club sandwich and enjoyed it. She is a huge burger fan though so, next time, she said she'd order a burger instead. The only great thing about having to report for jury duty at the municipal courts is that Stanton's is less than 1 mile away. Parking is limited (4 spots in front of the restaurant) but free street parking is plentiful. However none of this is important because even if you don't have jury duty and even if their parking lot is crap, you SHOULD check out this Houston fave. It is diner style where you order at the counter. I ordered the Spicy Chipotle burger $9 which was humongous. It didn't come with any sides but I was still satisfied after chowing down the burger. My only complaint is that they only sell bottled water so bring your own water to avoid paying for a $2-3 beverage. read more

Been meaning to try this place forever! One time I did stop by but it was a Monday and they were closed! But today with my family I decided to check it out and was very impressed! Described as a Houston institution. A family owned well known establishment; this place has made numerous best burger lists and being a big fan of burgers I had to find out for myself! My friend swore by it but I just had to find out. It is true what they say. Parking is a pain. Especially during the busy hour! Don't park across the street! There's a sign warning you not to at the front of the restaurant but no sign in the lot. There's a police station in the center so don't tempt fate. Only 4 spots in front and not very spacious either. Street parking is available but you may have to hike it a bit. We circled around for awhile and got a fairly close one. When we walked inside it was hopping. On a Tuesday no less. The menu is on the wall. Simple. Easy to order. The fries are generous. One order is enough for several. The burgers. Very good! Something about them. The flavor. Family recipe I read. Anyways, it's good! It's located within sights of the downtown skyline. On a busy street. Nondescript on the outside but lots of character on the inside! Family photos hang on the wall. There's even an old Astroworld banner. You can tell this is a Houston favorite! I first walked through these doors 10+ years ago with a thundering hangover to get (out of all things) tater-tots. Mr. Stanton took one look at me and said "you should get a cheeseburger too" and that's how a cheeseburger love affair got started! While much has change Stanton's is still serving up some of the best burgers in H-Town. The menu has grown tenfold but the classics remain including the tater-tots that are as delicious as ever. This visit I ordered the Blue Moon a savory blue cheese, bacon, grilled onion combo served on locally baked buns that is sure to satisfy even the meanest hangry. One of my top places to get burgers. I've had Blue Moon, Cowboy Brunch, and Luke Skyburger and liked all of them. Cajun Fries taste like regular fries with the tiniest cajun seasoning ever. There's barely a difference, so you might as well save 50 cents. Both are crunchy, pretty good. The restaurant is also huge. I've came with a party of around 20, and there's plenty of room. It's a self-serve place. Get your drink and condiments; then toss your trash in the bin and pack to-go. Cashier was very nice. Saw this place recommended on Yelp, and it was a close walk from our hotel. So, I thought we'd try it out for breakfast. It's tucked back from the street, but it's a lovely find. I just popped in to order take-away, so I sat at the bar. It is a cheery place, and cool enough to shake off the sweat and enjoy a cold beverage. I'm from Texas, so one of the things that drew me to this place was that they had tacos on the menu for breakfast. WINNER! While these tacos weren't necessarily something I'd get from a taco truck here in San Antonio, they were very good! The pancakes were hot and fluffy, all in all nothing spectacular, but still very enjoyable. This was my first time to visit Grand Cayman, and I was confused as to the exchange rate and why my bill was different than what the day's exchange rates indicated it should be. The bartender was unsure, but he called the manager right over, and she sat down with me and took the time to explain it to me. I was so grateful, and honestly, those short moments she spent with me made the rest of my trip so much easier. This is a definite recommend for island visitors. I also took some time walking back to my hotel to stop and feed the chicks - they are pretty cute and VERY demanding! I ended a twenty year stint as a non-red meat eater with a Holy Cow at Stanton's City Bites, and it's safe to say that it's my favorite burger place in the city. Their menu features twelve different half pound burgers in addition to the classic. They off several sandwiches and salads as well as few meatless options. They have a variety of different seasoned fries to choose including waffle fries, curly fries, and tater tots. Egg rolls are available, which I thought was strange, until I learned Mr. Stanton emigrated from China. Anyway, they have something for everyone, and I'd highly recommend at least glancing at the menu ahead of time to narrow down your options. I have tried many of their burgers including the Cowboy Brunch, the Lukeskyburger, the Grilled Shrooms burger. I most often stick to my original order, which was the Holy Cow. You just can't go wrong with five different kinds of cheese and bacon. They burgers are always cooked to perfection and the toppings do not disappoint. My favorite sides are the tater tots and Cajun fries. They make mean fried pickles too. They have a good selection of bottled beers, and other beverages. My biggest problem with this place is that I have to remind myself to eat slowly when I am there. It doesn't always work as planned. I've been there a few times and I do like that you can add grilled mushrooms to any burger but please be advised that it will make the burger a lot greasier than it actually is. It seems like you can customize your burger like ask for no Mayo and contrary to some other places - they actually listen ! I have not tried their fries because their burger is just that sizable and I haven't been hungry enough... yet. It's a counter service type of place but it's still comfortable and the staff is pleasant and courteous. I think someone mentioned the opposite. I also like that there is a sink between the bathrooms so that I don't have to actually go into the bathroom to wash my hands. As someone who has to wash my hands right before any meal that's nice. Was drinking at a bar just up the street from SCB, got hungry and decided to make a trip to get food and bring it back. The restaurant is pretty easy to miss from the street if you're not paying attention, it doesn't stand out since it looks like any other house near the street. However, there is usually quite a bit of cars parked out front - so you may have to look for street parking. Once you walk in, it's like you're transported to a diner from the 60's - very diner like decor and basic counter to order (they have alcohol as well). However, the hostess / registrar was friendly and quickly took our order. We sat in a corner with some ancient coaches and browsed some random ads. We ordered a monster burger, loaded waffle fries, and two other burger. Drinks are self-serve - food was ready in 15 minutes so fairly fast. Quickly took them to go and go back to the bar to devour them. I got the monster burger, it was humongous and delicious. One of the juiciest and most flavorful burgers I ever had. The sauce was great, and no flavor overpowered the other. It was definitely huge though, I shared this with one other person and between the two of us we could barely finish it. The loaded waffle fries were decent, but I quickly learned any fried food to go is never a good idea as it quickly gets soggy steaming in the styrofoam. What more can possibly be covered that has not already been said once, twice, possibly thrice? This place delivers on the front lines of the burger brigade. My most recent trip I opted for the Cowboy Brunch Burger ($9) fried egg, house fried pickles, grilled onions, bacon, Swiss, American cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, Texas toast - but hold the mayo on mine! Somehow everything between fried egg and Texas toast was overlooked (honestly I think those two food items are on automatic bold font in my brain), well not the mayo part but I was surprised by the fried pickles. Not bad surprise but oh my goodness like a hash brown but still getting the pickles kind of goodness combination! It ultimately made the whole idea of brunch on a twisted traditional burger that much more delightful. I say sit at the bar top because your order gets to you faster, in terms of they don't have to bob and weave through the tables and chairs; kitchen doors swing open, number connects with eyes (make sure its pointed strategically in an easy fashion for eyes peering from kitchen door), and delivered within 10 short steps. As aforementioned parking can be a find and seek game, there are now signs posted that clearly tell you not to park in the cleaners across the street which is generally serving our service men and women uniforms of Houston. read more

Can I say this is one of the best burger joints in all of Houston?? Definitely tops all the other places such as Fuddruckers, Smashburger, Five Guys, Tornado Burger, etc. I was surprised the first moment I walked in. The place looked like a run down gas station convenience store. But a second thought reminded of how the best food come from ghetto, hole-in-the-wall joints such as this one. And I was correct. The burger consisted of an extremely fresh and juicy patty, not greasy at all, and perfectly seasoned. You can tell it wasn't pre-made and frozen. The patty is laid between a set of firm yet fluffy warm toasted buns, which does not collapse as your squeeze the burger between your hands, making a great burger to bun ratio. The toppings that came a long with my bacon cheeseburger were all fresh. Cheese was nicely melted and the egg yolk from the fried egg flowed out smoothly. My only concern was the extra dollar I paid for only one small piece of bacon. But once I took a bite, as everything melted together in my mouth, nothing else mattered. So I came here with high expectations after reading the reviews, but I was slightly disappointed after my visit. We arrived and browsed the menu. After making our selections we went ahead and ordered with the cashier (who was not the friendliest). She took our order correctly but she certainly didn't make us feel welcome. I ordered an art car IPA, which is always a favorite of mine. I went up and asked for a water and I was told they told have tap water, which is fine, but they also don't allow cards unless you have a $5 minimum. I find it quite ridiculous that I have to spend 5 dollars to get a bottle of water, I don't mind paying for a bottle of water but either don't have a $5 minimum or offer tap water. As far as the food I had the chipotle burger which was absolutely delicious! It was tasty and fresh. I got the sweet potato fries which had an odd taste. Although my husband had the regular fries which were really good. I also had the egg rolls(which I had to order in order to get my water), and they were pretty good as well. Came out very hot too. All in all, I may come back. I'm not 100% sure after the negatives I've had here. I truly hope that management listens to this criticism because I'm sure I am not the only person who feels this way. This place is legit! After finally making my way over here for the first time, I've determined that the glowing reviews this place gets are well-deserved. Definitely a must-try for burger lovers. This place is located the First Ward in an assuming building which is nestled in a residential area. Love the vibe of the place and it hosts a very diverse crowd; people in business clothes to people who look like they haven't showered in weeks. We ordered at the counter, where a very affable and pleasant young lady took our orders. In fact, everyone who worked there seemed super nice and friendly. We got the Truck Stop burger and the Chipotle burger. Both burgers were excellent...the meat was juicy, nicely seasoned, and not too salty. The buns were impressive too - for some reason I really liked the shape of them and how they felt in my hands; perfectly toasted and from other reviews it seems like they make them in-house! Cool! For sides, we tried the onion rings and the Cajun fries. The Cajun fries were OK, and the onion rings good....nothing mind-blowing, but a great complement to their amazing burgers. As other reviews have pointed out, they have an impressive drink selection; both in beers and other sodas and specialty drinks (many of which I had never seen before). My brother and I spent a good few minutes just perusing everything in their fridge. Stanton's is another one of those places that reminds me why I love Houston. It's your American classic 1/2 lb burger with chipotle butter, BLT, thick jalapeno jack cheese, grilled onions, all between toasted buns. Such simple ingredients yet so delicious! I don't even know what kind of buns they use but it compliments the burger so well. The only problem was that it was a bit messy to eat because of it's saucy nature and stack up height, but who cares! I highly suggest it. Definitely order the tator tots with this burger... or with any burger! The tots here come out hot and crunchy from the deep fried goodness. Once you pop, you really can't stop. Tator tots are $2.50 extra. This place used to be an old local grocery store back around 1961, and it's still very apparent to this day. The old classic cash register booth is still being used, canned goods remain on small shelves, and random products are stacked up like they are ready to sell. I admit though, a lot of it remains for decoration, but it adds a lot of character to the restaurant. The lady at the cash register was nice and made small talk. She explained to me what most people ordered and suggested the Spicy Chipotle to me. Great choice! Next time though I'll be sure to try the "Holy Cow" and "Luke Skyburger" because they sound delicious. Extra points added because of the super clean bathrooms! There is a reason this place was voted the best burger in Houston. After having this place bookmarked for a long time, I finally got the chance to go here on the way back from an errand. There is no designated parking lot, but a lot of residential/street parking. I walked in and was charmed by the old timey feel. The counter is actually an old school coca cola cooler and they have counter seating along with these comfy looking black booths along the wall. I liked the sports flags on the walls and the chalk art Simpsons board at the front. The menu has so many amazing-sounding, gourmet burgers. They also have gourmet sandwiches too but I had to go here for "the best burger in Houston." I got the Truck stop, which is a 1/2 lb burger with American cheese and all the fixings and 2 onion rings. I opted for bacon on the side and no mayo. The burger was huge! And so well presented. In comparison to a Red Robin burger I had recently, this was far far far superior. The flavor was so good, the meat was so good, juicy, seasoned just right. Sometimes, when I eat Whataburger, I have trouble digesting it, but the meat here must have been good quality because it was easy on my stomach, despite my consumption of 1/2 lb of meat (which if you know my size, is pretty stunning). The fried onion rings were still crisp after driving 15 minutes back to work. They held on nicely because they were glued onto the patty by the melted slice of cheese. The burger is very tall but I managed to squish it down a bit and take bites. It was so good. The amount of mustard applied is a good amount, like Whataburger, so you can taste it in there, but not so much that it overpowers. Everything melded together. I was only going to eat half, but it was so good and I couldn't let the onion rings go soft so I devoured the whole thing. I am a convert. I love Stanton's City Bites. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and it tasted like a homemade burger; something I could have made myself. While taking a bite, the burger patty came apart . Comes on a toasted sesame bun! I got mines cut in half. I usually don't eat the bun, but I gave it a try... I devoured it within minutes! Service... self service. Nice cashier. Very helpful with suggestions. Pricing... kind of pricey but decent food Environment... clean and great for large parties Food is decent. I wouldn't say it's the best but it's pretty good. Fried pickles was good. Italian fries weren't that good. The cheese that was sprinkled on top just hardened and clumped together. Yeah, the parking situation isn't the greatest, the service isn't the fastest, and boo on carrying only bottled beverages. However, the old timey charm, tasty burgers, and a great selection of all that deep fried battered goodness stuff we're told to avoid are all defining factors that have elevated this nondescript convenience store and morphed into one of Houston's most beloved burger joint. Try to get here a little early or a little late, because this place tends to get pack during peak hours. The menu displays their selection of burgers, sandwiches, vegetarian offerings, and random snacks. I like to keep it simple and usually end up with a classic burger. While the meat of the burger is delicious, when I order it medium, the amount of liquidy juice that pours out of that burger makes an awful mess and is a little gross when your hands/ basket is drenched with grease. The patties themselves are on the thicker side. Their defining feature is that they are actually flavorful and beefy tasting like they should be. The sturdy sesame seed topped buns hold up fairly nicely despite the hefty contents. The bacon use in the burgers is disappointing. I also wish there was more of a sear. Overall it's still a darn tasty burger. Anyway, there's a ton of reviews already about this establishment so I won't continue on, but yes it's worth the visit, and yes you will want a nap afterwards.
