It's been awhile since I've done a good burger review, and what better place to start back up than a review of Stanton's? Stanton's City Bites is a no-frills facility located just outside of downtown and at the east edge of the Washington Corridor, but don't let this nondescript establishment fool you. Once you bite into one of their burgers, you'll just assume that all the effort is going into the food, and there ain't nothin' wrong with that! The menu at Stanton's has a good mix of classic, straight-up 1/2 pound burgers, and a plethora of more exotic offerings as well. For those looking to venture beyond the typical cheeseburger, the "Miss Piggie" adds candied bacon on top of an already bacon-infused patty, while the "Luke Skyburger" gives you deep-fried bacon amidst sauteed spinach and mushrooms...just to give you an idea. Now, I'm a fan of burgers of all shapes and sizes, and open to all sorts of toppings, but when I'm visiting a place for the first time, I like to have a good "baseline burger" that sets the standard for all future visits. In my opinion, for a burger to be delicious, you've got to get the basics right, otherwise that extra fried egg and pesto spread will all be for naught! Fortunately, Stanton's seems to know that as well, and regardless of your selection, you won't be disappointed. For this visit, I went more on the conservative side and got the "Truck-Stopper," a bacon cheeseburger with the addition of onion rings for a little extra crunch. Needless to say it was awesome. The burger had the right amount of toppings to make it bulging but manageable, with a well-seasoned patty cooked to perfection (in this case, medium). Grab that and a side of seasoned Italian Fries, and you've got yourself a well-priced lunch and a well-fed stomach. Just make sure that if you're going during the workweek, you don't have a 1pm meeting...you just might end up napping through it! read more

I was trying to find another place and Stanton's was in the list of suggestions so we decided to try. The food is amazing and all the girls working there are so nice and up beat! Second time here in two weeks and it exceeded expectations which were pretty high based on my first visit! Definitely one of the best burgers in the city!! Loved the Cowboy Brunch Burger and the hot and crispy fries. It can be crowded during peak lunch times, but totally worth the wait! read more

So after we left the Yelp art event I was so excited we were down the street from Stanton's city bites. I have been in the Talk room forever now and they are always on the list for everyone's favorite burger in Houston. Food I felt so overwhelmed with choices that It took forever to pick one. I ordered the Turkey burger with gouda cheese-Good Flavor but needed to be more juicy. The gouda wasn't melted and I know its a hard cheese to melt but it can be done and it would have been nice to have that. Chilicheese Curly fries-Really tasty, the chili needed a little more balance but all in all it was decent. Husband ordered-Cowboy brunch burger and he said it was good but not put together right. The way the ingredients were layered they all fell off and the Texas toast got soggy. I took a bite and I agree with him. Garlic parmesan fries-Best part of the meal!!! Soooo freaking good! Nice and crispy with a perfect amount of parmesan, heavenly. All in all it was a good meal but I'm still waiting for what the big deal is??.... read more

After wanting to come here for the longest time, I finally had the chance to go. And yup. It was as good as I had expected it to be. As I'm sure you already know (you don't? Well now you do), Stanton's City Bites is located within a nondescript, building with no big, fancy, or flashy signs. One of my friends who came with me even told me that he'd driven this place many times and never gave this place a second look. And he's a burger lover!! When we got there, there was a short line. Maybe three other customers in front of us. We saw a little sign that explained the ordering process: Get drinks, order, pay, So we did just that. They had many selections for sodas, beer, and what not. But since I knew I was going to get some nice, juicy, burger, I decided to be healthier and grabbed myself a coke, wait for it, ZERO! So it came time for us to order. One of my friends decided to get the Monster Burger. My other friend opted for the spicy chipotle. Yours truly wanted to try the "Miss Piggie" but unfortunately they were sold out :-( Could it be because there was a UYE going on at the time? DAMN YOU OTHER YELPERS!!! LEAVE A FELLA YELPER SOME OF THE GOOD STUFF, WHY DON'T YA?! Anyway, I decided on the Holy Cow. We also got some tots and some Cajun season fries. We wanted the seasoned curly fries. But again, they were all out! DAMN YOU ELITES! Oh wait, I'm one of them! Even though the place was packed, our food came out pretty quickly. About 15 minutes or so. The fries and the tots are pretty good. I was informed by the cashier that the seasoned curly fries are ordered from some wholesaler or something so I'll assume that the same goes for the tots and the cajun fries. They were good nonetheless. However, the real money is on them burgers! Oooooo weeee! Mine was so, so, so, so good. Hands down of the best burgers I've had in Houston. Or even everywhere. The burger wasn't too greasy, it was cooked just right and best of all, it was BIG! Yes, it's not as big as the Monster Burger, but 1/2 lb of meat is a lot of meat! My friends had the same sentiment. They enjoyed their burgers very much. I could totally see them coming here a lot more because they live super close to this place. Lucky bastards!! Me? Hands down the best burger place that is somewhat unknown in Houston! Best place to have some of your arteries and veins clogged for a bit of good pure beef, bacon, cheese, and fries! Here are three burgers that I have tried from the past visits in order of greatness. 1. Miss Piggie: Excellent burger with ground beef, ground bacon, and ground canadian bacon mashed up with hash browns on top. I want to apologize in advance to Kermit the Frog for having an affair with his girl but it's really good. 2. Spicy Chipotle: Very sweet and spicy burger that you'll need extra napkins with (especially if you add on jalapenos!). I think I had to use about five napkins while I was eating this burger. 3. Chili Cheese: Wish it was a little spicier but overall it had nice blend of good cheese, onions, and beef. THIS PLACE IS SO BOMB!!! I tried their bacon cheeseburger and their chipotle burger. The chipotle is definitely my favorite one!! The meat was so juicy and well seasoned and not packed too tightly, the bacon was perfect crispy/chewy texture, the bun was soft but held up to the filling and had jalapeños in it!!!!, and the fries were great too (both curly fries and regular fries were crispy on the outside with a tender middle). I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an amazing burger - I dare say it's my favorite in Houston so far! The only downside is their parking situation is very limited. read more

First trip to Stanton's, so we went simple...Bacon Cheeseburger. Pros- Good burger, meat was full of flavor and cooked just right The bun was fresh, as were the lettuce, tomato,onion and pickles. The cajun fries were soft on the inside with a crispy and seasoned outer. Cons- Two small pieces of bacon on a big slab of meat was criminal. The parking can be difficult, a few small spaces by the door and some street parking. The drink selection was not a highlight for me, no refills and no fresh brewed tea. Would I drive a distance to come back...no. If I'm in the area, I will return for another item off the menu and sample another of Stanton's City Bites creations. read more

Super yum! Came on a Thursday around 11:15 am for lunch and it wasn't crowded. (Good thing for a group of 5 of us) The turkey burger is absolutely delicious and flavorful. It also wasn't dry like most turkey burgers I've had. I ordered one with avocado and no bacon and mayo. They also dont put butter on the bun and have it om wheat, thank goodness for those of us who are health conscious. Just a many mentioned they offer bottled water that you have to pay for versus getting it out on tap. Tip for those who don't like paying for water, just bring your own. Finishing it off with the bread pudding topped it. It was served fresh and warm. For a hidden jem like this place you knew they have to have pretty darn good bread pudding and guess what, they sure did! It was worth every bite. Although i tried a small portion of their menu i still rate as 5 stars since 4 other colleagues of mine that joined me for lunch had nothing but positive things to say about their burger, cheeseburger and bacon cheese burger. First visit to this funky spot (but clean and safe) in a funky transitioning neighborhood 5 minutes from downtown. Burgers and burgers - is their game. We had chili cheeseburgers ($6.50) which were great and large. Note described as "spicy but not hot" was untrue. Although I got the jalapeño mustard on the side and applied judiciously - it was HOT! Sides are all sorts of fries. Rated by many sites as one of the top 10 burger joints in Houston - I agree. Note - get their early (we got there ~ 11:30 AM). Soon thereafter a line formed and the wait to get food was a bit long. Many police folks dining there today. read more

I've heard about this burger joint for a long time but I never had the opportunity to eat around in that particular part of Houston until recently when I was summoned for jury duty. They let us out for a hour and 15 minutes lunch and since I didn't want to lose my spot in the parking lot, I remembered this place was walking distance from the courthouse. When I got to the front, I was a bit confused as I did not know the history of this establishment being a grocery store at one point. I looked at the menu and oh man, do they have a good selections of burgers. I just go with the cheeseburger with fried egg and a side of curly fries. They don't have fountain water so you have to buy bottle water here. But the price for this full meal just under $10. There's a small amount of table and there's actually a good amount of customers of all kinds here. The food came out fairly quick and I couldn't wait for a bite of it. The patty is simply amazing as it's juicy, thick, and evenly seasoned for a great grilled taste. This is definitely one of the best burger for the price here in Houston. The fried egg definitely enhance the over all flavor. The curly fries were good but not as salty as certain burger chain that's known for curly fries. I only wish that I live and/or work around this area so I can come here more often for some burger goodness. I was really excited to try this place out considering all the awesome reviews! It was located in one of those old corner grocery stores, and did not look like it had been updated much. It really reminded me of the corner grocery/ restaurant you find all over New Orleans. No frills, just good food. I had a burger and some onion rings. The burger meat was very flavorful, and the lettuce, tomato, etc all tasted really fresh. The bun even had a nice shine to it, making my burger really photogenic. The onion rings were perfectly cooked. When you bit into one you did not get the rest of the onion sliding out from the fried part. Here the onion bit off just liked the fried part. I may go back just for the onion rings. To wash it all down they had the Mexican bottles of Coke... the ones made with real sugar and not corn syrup. I swear you can taste the difference. Zabiha halal legit burgers in Houston? Yes please! Stantons never fails to please. Service is excellent. I've always placed my order with the same girl every time I go and she is great at explaining the menu and she gladly enters the request to cook your zabiha burger separately. They do not offer halal turkey bacon. My favorite burger is the chipotle. They make the chipotle sauce in house and it's the perfect blend of flavors. Burgers are served on fresh buns and the patties are very juicy. I have also tried their chili dogs which are ok. They serve halal chili, hot dogs and chicken breast as well. After hearing that Stanton's has the best burger in Houston, I had to visit and see for myself. While it doesn't quite hold that position in my opinion (Bernie's Burger Bus does it for me), it is definitely up there in the top 3. So far, I have tried the Grilled Mushroom, Miss Piggie, and Luke Skyburger. While the burgers come a little too cooked for my taste (close to a medium well while I prefer a medium rare), a heavy hand with the seasoning and creative toppings win me over. The Grilled Mushroom covers my standard burger order and the simplicity in comparison to the rest of Stanton's menu allows the patty to shine through. The Miss Piggie was truly a feat of meat, a bit heavy for my taste but good for anyone craving a hearty meal. Not to mention the ingenuity of the candied bacon alone makes this a burger worth ordering. I tried the Luke Skyburger purely out of my curiosity about the deep-fried bacon and my love for mushrooms. Now, I have to say I am not one to shy from fatty foods - almost always ordering pork belly when it's on a menu and making a beeline towards fried Oreos at the rodeo, but the deep-fried bacon here was a tad too much for me. The bacon seemed to be composed far more of fat than meat and the batter wasn't as crispy as it needed to be - a crucial factor when you're eating something with as high a fat content as this bacon. Besides, something with a crunch factor would have greatly improved a burger already laden with sautéed spinach and cheese. As I've mentioned, Stanton's tends to serve fairly heavy burgers. Come with a big appetite and plans to enter a food coma. My boyfriend and I made the mistake of stopping by once before a concert and left nearly regretting our decision of such hearty fare. Overall, however, Stanton's has managed to win me over. Very good hole-in-the-wall burger joint! Came across this randomly when looking for a lunch spot between my office and downtown. The inside is very minimal and kind of seems like it was an old corner store. From the outside, it doesn't even look like anything exists so don't be confused if you don't see this place at first! I got the grilled mushroom burger w/ a fried egg and my friend got the spicy chipotle w/ fried egg. The food kind of took a long time to come out considering it was just burgers so it seems like they're understaffed. However, the burgers looked delicious when we got them! They come with seasoned fries on the side. Overall I think they could improve on their decor/outside image, putting more seating and bring out food a little quicker. Spicy Chipotle: flavor explosion, well made burger with fresh ingredients! Smoked Turkey: meat was smoked to perfection and complimented the Texas toast that it came on! Cajun Fries: no fry left out of the seasoning! Found this place while searching through Yelp and happened to be in the area where we were going so put it on list of Houston ToDo's. When we parked it looked like a gas station convenience store. My wife gave me a questionable look! I too was nervous. The inside is nothing fancy and has lots of seating. The gentleman at the from took our order and we sat. The fries came out a lot earlier then the meals. The fries did feel like standard frozen fries that were cooked. However the seasoning was applied generously and have it a great flavor! The Chipotle had the perfect blend of flavors. The lettuce, tomato, bacon tasted so fresh and almost healthy and it made it so pleasurable to eat. The bacon was fresh and thick cut not cheap bacon! My only gripe about the burger is that on the bottom but was placed the fixings: lettuce, pickles, tomato, etc. the burger was put in top of this and then crowned with a top bun. Well with the burger sitting on the fixing it causes the burger slip out. This was the only annoyance. Other then that this place was an amazing hidden find! read more

I've eaten so many burgers in this town, and many have left me completely underwhelmed. (I'm sorry, Lankford; I really wanted to love you so hard.) After browsing photographs posted by Yelpers, I found myself somewhat aroused. Stanton's is located off of Edwards (just past Washington) on Houston Avenue. How on earth have I passed this place so many times without even knowing?! Even better: it's not terribly far from where I live either... My first time here, I came with my friend Hayley; we got here a bit after 11AM after yapping about burgers/what we would eat all morning long. There were a handful of people already inside eating their meals; lots of cops as well. I'm not too picky about decor or clientele - as long as the place is clean and the food is good, I'm game. The interior is a bit rough: part convenience store (think iodine salt and toilet paper) and part restaurant (burgers and bread pudding!). That being said, Hayley, myself, and this other older woman were the only females there. It was actually a bit surreal. No bother - I'm here to eat! We placed our order and paid. I decided on the bacon cheeseburger and fried pickles with a Mexican Coke. I thought about getting a Holy Cow, but since I put off going to the gym to eat here, I better be a bit responsible with my health. The burgers, IMO, are priced quite fairly. My bacon cheeseburger was just $6, but with a side (varies from $2 - $5) and a drink ($2.25), the price of your meal can quickly add up. The more premium a burger is, the more expensive will be. Stanton's also allows for customization, but each add-on can get pricey quickly, too. I totally LOVED my burger. Loved, loved, LOOOOOOVED. I also feel that it was the perfect size for me! It was juicy and seasoned well, but thankfully, it wasn't so wet that it completely fell apart when I was eating it. The burger patty did crumble a bit, but no bother! I just popped those chunks right into my mouth. The highlight of this burger was the bread: toasted with a shiny top and oh-so airy and pillowesque. Surprisingly, the juices didn't turn this sandwich into a sloppy mess - another huge plus for me. I love how my burger came with romaine lettuce instead of iceberg, and I was pleased that the tomato wasn't squishy and mealy. Unfortunately, the fried pickles were a bit of a disappointment. They were actually kind of hard and overly crunchy - more batter than pickle. The seasoning and flavoring was good, but it just wasn't enjoyable to eat. I also wasn't a fan of the ranch dressing that was served with it either. Hayley ordered onion rings, and I liked them, but they are a bit more bready than I typically prefer. Update: I've been here a few more times since, and their fried pickles were actually quite good. I'm guessing the first time was a fluke. My personal preference now is tots, and as you can see, it's what I order regularly. :) Bottom line: Stanton's is my burger husband. There's commitment here. read more

Oh. My. Goodness. The burgers here are fantastic. We have ordered delivery from Stanton's City Bites several times during COVID. The burgers are always tasty and they're huge. Our favorites are: the Cowboy Brunch burger, the Holy Cow, and the Grilled Shrooms burger. We've also tried a number of their appetizers. We've enjoyed: the waffle bites, the bacon cheese tots, the onion rings, but hands-down the best appetizer is the fried pickles. Even ordering via delivery, they still arrive crispy instead of soggy. I've been to Stanton's twice. The first time it was good, but I wasn't super impressed. The second time all the sides I had were still good, but I tried the Miss Piggie (after hearing lots about how good it was) and strongly, strongly disliked it. Couldn't eat more than 2 bites. I think the issue here is that I'm not into fatty meat. I KNOW it's a bacon (fat) burger, but I guess I was picturing well-done bacon. In any event, I'm not saying Miss Piggie is an objectively bad burger. I'm just saying that I subjectively hated it a lot and learned a very valuable lesson (never to order it again). Otherwise, their food is pretty good. The variety of bottled cokes is fun. The place is very no frills, but there is a cardboard cutout of Rudy T - which brings back lots of fond memories for this Houston native. read more

I will just chime in and add to the raving reviews-- Stanton's has really good burgers! They're average in price, large in size, and abundant in taste. To make this review somewhat useful, I'll just add that I got the turkey burger (which comes with spinach, smoked gouda, caramelized onions and bacon) and it was also really good! It was flavorful and not dry, unlike a lot of turkey burgers. I could definitely taste the smoked gouda, YUM. But I would still recommend getting a beef burger here if it's your first time or you're averse to anything that sounds remotely healthy :P. Gotta try the classics first! The beef burgers are definitely juicier than the turkey burger, and if you get a speciality one, they. are. HUGE. If you haven't tried Stanton's yet, you should definitely come check it out! What a disappointment. Hubbs and I came straight here after biking at Buffalo Bayou Park for an hour. Needless to say, we were famished and I wanted a burger. I saw that this was highly rated and super close, so we headed over, parked and walked in. When we walked in I was welcomed by the old diner charm; black and white subway tile with black 50's style booths. You order at a counter, take a number, seat yourself and wait for your food. Since the burgers were half a pound patties, hubbs and I decided to share a bacon cheeseburger, normal fries and onion rings. We picked a small table and sat down. 20 minutes later we were still waiting for our food. For one burger and two sides. Hubbs went up to the counter to get some water and they said they didn't have tap, so we had to buy bottled. He only had a dollar in his wallet, but since it was $1.08, they wouldn't give it to him (and the cc machine has a minimum of $5). So he had to go to the car to get 8 cents. Finally our burger came out and it was actually pretty small. The bun was big but actually kinda airy and the patty was thick and meaty flavored... But brown all the way through and not as juicy as I would've hoped. We finished it in 2 minutes, starving at this point. We finally got our onion rings and fries about 10 minutes later. This would've been whatever if there weren't two large parties who came in after us (about 10 people/kids each) who got their food right away. I mean, really? Where's the logic in that? Was the burger/onion rings fries good? They were pretty good. Are they worth waiting 20 minutes? NO. Why should a burger take 20 minutes, especially when it wasn't fresh right off the grill? Plus the no tap water and water bottle thing, this place is just meh. What a disappointment. I've been looking for a delicious burger place in Houston and this place came to my attention due to the TV show "Burger Land". I wasn't about to follow his advice as his first place was Christian's Tailgate (not a fan), but when I looked it up on Yelp with 4.5 stars I said sure why not. Not to mention David N. gave it a 4 star rating so I had to be at least decent. Came here on Sunday around 1 pm, and they were pretty busy. I love specialty burgers so we ordered the Miss Piggie and Cowboy Brunch. The Miss Piggie were both our favorites. It comes with ground bacon and hamburger meat, candied bacon, hash brown, cheddar, lettuce and tomato. The patty was juicy and great porky flavor! The candied bacon adds a nice sweet touch and the hash brown on top was just awesome! This burger definitely had me squealing for more! The Cowboy Brunch has mayo, mustard, bacon, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, swiss and american cheese, and fried pickles and egg all on texas toast. This burger was delicious and messy too. It literally had the grease running down my fingers. The winner on this burger was the fried egg and texas toast. Eggs and burgers just go so well together! After eating both burgers, I would definitely want to order the Miss Piggie and put a fried egg on top. We also got the Italian fries, but I wasn't as impressed with the fries as the burgers. Doesn't really have much of a kick but all each ingredient in that burger play their role to perfection. That's the only burger I get, but I have had bites of others and I recommend any burger there. I ordered the Holy Cow, and Holy Cow, after I took the first bite I almost cried, literally! This burger is the BEST burger I have ever had in my life. The meat was moist and perfectly seasoned. The cheese was nice and gooey but not messy. The bread was soft yet crispy in all of the right places. I also had the italian seasoned fries- nice and crispy and cheesy, delicious. I prepared myself and came on an empty stomach and still took home 3/4 of my meal. But it was cool, because I was surely thankful to have it the next day for lunch. Even then, nothing was soggy. It tasted just as a good as the day before. All in all this is a great place to come on a Saturday or Sunday Funday: There were so many beverages to select from, soda and specialty beers. After reading the rave reviews about Stanton's, and given that my cousin and I were craving burgers, we decided to give it a try! This place is a little hidden treasure near the Heights! It looks like a renovated house, and the inside is nothing special to look at, but in all honesty we're simply there for the food, right?! My cousin being the teenage food-disposal that he is, took the challenge and ordered the three-stacked Monster Burger! (See picture below) he finished in less than 8minutes and loved every bite of it! Since I don't eat beef, I was a little skeptical that the other menu items wouldn't be as tasty, since it was known for Beefy burgers, but- I ordered the turkey burger, anyway. WOW! It was, hands down, the best turkey burger I've had in Houston!! So much flavor. We weren't sure how filled be, so we opted to share a basket of the Italian fries. And, though they were good, they weren't my favorite. In all fairness, the hostess did tell us the two house fave's, and Italian wasn't one if them. Next time I'll be trying the Cajun fries basket! Yo what's up its ya boy back at it with this bomb burger spot! My girl surprised me and took me to this burger spot. And what a surprise it was indeed! I love the Simpsons artwork in the interior. It sets a great vibe to the atmosphere and reminds me of all the times Krusty Burger was featured on the show. Moving on, back to the main entree. The burgers were so good we had to get our own. No sharing out here fam. I ordered the grilled shrooms burger, cheese fries, and a Mexican coke. It came out juicy, flavorful, and wanting more. The cheese fries were perfect as expected. And the sugary Mexican coke to wash it all down brings a smile to my heart. If you're looking for a good local burger spot in Houston that isn't a chain, this is it right here fam. i had the miss piggy and man was it worth the drive. Place is not that cute, but food is soo good. It tastes so fresh!! I didnt hit the lines since it was probably the after lunch crowd at 1:30pm. Tons of parking but its kinda feels like youre in the ghetto but totally safe inside. Wow, this place is amazing!! It is a bit of a drive and the parking could be hectic but good thing when I came there was one open right in the front (YAY!) There are a good amount of tables, the menu is listed on a board behind the cashier. I forgot my glasses at home so I wasn't able to read everything off the menu.. (not happening again- but I read Yelp reviews so I had an idea.) I opted for a basic bacon cheeseburger. You can edit your burger however you like and the cashier will be kind about it. We got an extra side of sautéed mushrooms and also Cajun fries with tots. The drinks are provided in a fridge, let them know you wanna order one because they're all the same price and basically self serve. We sat ourselves with a number, the food came out in about 10-15 minutes. They bring it out to you. UGH the burger is such good quality and the bread is amazing. Super flavorful and juicy - they pair very well. I usually can't finish a whole big burger, but I did today. Took some togo for my boyfriend (spent an hour in traffic otw home - boo) but the burger still tasted great even lukewarm. Will definitely be coming back! To assist with any confusion, we didn't know whether or not to throw away our plastic plates ourselves or leave them there to be cleaned, but there's a bin and trash in the middle for you to empty your plates! read more

The inside is kind of shabby, not what I was expecting since I did not look at the pictures, but it made no difference to me!
