I've been waiting months to eat at Stanwood Grill and finally had my chance this week. Located in East Downtown, this is one of the fancier places in town for a treat yourself on the town. Reservations are a good idea on busier nights. If you arrive early, check out the shops nearby. For an appetizer I ordered the fried calamari. Tender, lightly breaded and crispy pieces served with a slightly spicy dipping sauce. This was done really well! Now, I don't normally rave about a house salad but this was a nice mix of spring greens, tomatoes, and cucumber spears. Highly recommend the smoked shallot vinaigrette dressing, which is apparently the sauce they use for the coleslaw too. I may get fish and chips next time just to try that. I must have had the largest pork chop ever served in my life, more than the 12oz expected. Done to a juicy medium, it cut like butter and melted easily in the mouth. Seasoned perfectly with a Dijon-white balsamic glaze served on a bed of roasted yams and some type of vegetable - forgive me I am not sure if it was some type of onion and it was crispy. Our friends Suggested the Stanwood Grill when we were planning dinner. We had a terrific waitress who gave us great service. Husband ordered the Manhattan Steak which was one of the best steaks we've had! It was a special but next time we returned it is on their new menu!! I had grilled prawns with risotto and enjoyed the prawns but for me the risotto sauce was too sweet. Our friend had the knife and fork taco with salmon and loved it, and the pork chop which got rave reviews! This will definitely be a regular place for us! We first came to the grill about a month ago with a group of about twenty; despite the number of people, the service was very friendly and the food was absolutely amazing. I got a very good salmon salad, and my boyfriend got some huge steak that he loved. More recently, we visited here with a much smaller group of 4, and had a just-as-wonderful experience as the first time. When the fresh bread comes out, it is hot and a perfect mix of crunchy crust and soft inside, served with olive oil and herbs. No matter what entree you get, it will be high quality, fresh, and really truly tasty. The desserts are also rich and delicious! Often, when you order an entree salad at a restaurant, it'll either be low-quality greens, covered in fried stuff and cheap shredded cheese, or just not filling enough. The Stanwood Grill really knows how to make a good entree salad. I couldn't recommend this place enough! It truly is good, quality food and a wonderful experience. read more

I visited Stanwood Grill at 7:30 on a weeknight with my husband and in-laws. This is LATE for Stanwood. We were the only people in the restaurant, though there was a group on the patio when we arrived. We shared the fried cauliflower and roasted carrot romesco appetizer. The cauliflower was crisp and fried al dente, a little under what I would have preferred. However, the romesco was amazing--smooth and creamy with a nice balance of sweetness and acidity--and the plating was gorgeous. It was the most "upscale" dish of the night. For dinner, my mother-in-law and I each ordered fish tacos (salmon and cod, and we swapped part so we each ate one of each). While the fish was moist and well seasoned, it was so buried beneath the sauces and toppings that it was hard to taste unless I dug it out on its own. I also thought the portion of cod was a little small for the size of the tacos. (The salmon was perfect.) I loved the tortillas, though--tender but sturdy enough for their very wet contents. My husband got the nightly land food special of ribeye steak with mushroom-burgundy sauce and roasted potatoes and asparagus. I found it odd that the sauce came on top of the steak, which made it look a bit like Salisbury steak, and the potatoes and asparagus were just sort of scattered next to it. This was the only dish where the plating seemed really casual, almost sloppy. The flavors were good, though having the sauce on top of the steak ruined any crust, and he only got like four tiny little asparagus spears. My father-in-law ordered the pork chop, which was my favorite dish of the night. It was incredibly moist, and the digon-white balsamic glaze was pleasantly sharp. His dish also came with roasted potatoes and asparagus, but they were piled up together with the meat resting on top of them, which was much nicer looking. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was comfortable. Overall, if you're looking for a nice place to have a family meal in Stanwood, Stanwood Grill is one of your best options. read more

Our initial experience in this restaurant was excellent. The steak and salmon were delicious and the staff were friendly. We went back for more take out dinners since we enjoyed the food. However, on our 3rd time today, my husband was treated rudely by the waitress and the cook. After being persuaded to order dessert, my husband heard the cook complaining about the dessert order very audibly that it could be heard all the way to the waiting area! We went to Stanwood grille for the first time tonight. The highlight was our server who was very friendly and worked hard to give us a good experience. The service was the highlight of our evening. The food was not good; the sauce on the steak was overpowering and one of our steaks wasn't cooked to our request. Our drinks were fair and after leaving we had spent over $100 on 3 fair meals. The restaurant was cold the restrooms were even colder the service was excellent and the food tasted great but one of the dinners that we ordered didn't come out right and the appetizer with halibut for $19 had 3 tiny pieces of halibut definitely not worth the money. Supposed to be a higher end bar and grill.... this pasta was so bland the only flavor was the andouille sausage and my friends $40 "filet" was not a filet and it was ordered rare but came medium and charred so she sent it back only to get it back medium rare and fatty... potatoes were so slimey you could tell they had been cooked earlier and left in warmer to serve... super small portions too... the calamari had a sweet taste to the breading... very weird we will never go back.... manager didn't even try to come talk to us after he saw we sent back the filet... soooo not worth the drive ot the money... server needs to be more aware of the temperature of meat as well as where..the meat comes from which we asked and she never found out to tell us. Came in on a rather busy night, took 45 minutes after we were seated to take our order. Water glasses were dirty. Finally got food an hour and a half or more after ordering and our bread basket came after 45 minutes. We ordered fish and chips, salad, and a beef dip. NOTHING should have taken that long to prepare. The fish and chips had very little fish and we were not asked how our food was. Everyone was pleasant, but the service was negligent (I'd expect better from McDonalds). Part of the deck fell off (loudly) next to our small children while we were, and there was 0 acknowledgement of the pieces laying on the ground with exposed nails. We kept waiting for the visit to be redeeming, but we won't be giving them a second chance to earn our business. read more

Hmmm. This is a really cute restaurant and we were so excited to have a nice dinner out. Unfortunately, service was less than stellar. We ordered at the same time as the table next to us (there were only two of us -- this was not a large group). Their food came quickly. We waited and waited ... they ate and got their leftovers packaged in to-go boxes and paid their bill ... and yet we hadn't been served our dinner. Things happen. But our waitress never stopped by to say: Hey, let me check on your food. Or, so sorry about the wait. Nope. She never even stopped to ask if we wanted another drink. When our food finally came, it was OK. Not awful. Not great. My husband's steak was really dry ... the sauce on my pork tenderloin was salty. Meh. The crazy thing is that better service could have made us overlook the less-than-amazing food. Or, amazing food might have made us overlook the lackluster service. Moved to Camano Island recently And this felt like the only restaurant close by for anniversary dinner. Definetly could use some Updating and host wasn't very professional. Bathrooms were terrible. Had the shrimp cocktail with homemade cocktail sauce and Was very good. Server left lots to be desired. Poor service Altogether. Took 1 hour 15 min to receive entree. Never asked if we needed More drinks water bread etc until dinner served and by that time A Little late. I had a special chicken pasta dish. Very good and Checked was Very Tender. The steaks were excellent, the service and appetizer, not so much. We each took a couple bites of calamari and it was rubbery and chewy. The waitress didn't come back for some times, and when she did we told the waitress we didn't like it, she took it and asked if we would like it fixed. We said no since it took so long we were expecting our steaks soon. She didn't stop back after I ordered a drink for quite some time and when I got around to the second one it took twice as long. When the bill came the calamari was still on it and the creme brûlée was comped (cost 1/2 as much as the calamari. So we gave a very minimal tip, for slow service and manipulating the bill in a way to not acknowledge their poor appetizer. read more

One also had a salad entree with chicken and said the dressing was good, but the chicken was tasteless. One had the salmon special was said to be good. I had the pasta special, which had blackened chicken. The sauce was okay, but lacked real flavor. The pasta was properly prepared. The chicken was a real disappointment because it too was tasteless. The portion size was rather small for the price paid. The best part of the meal in my estimation was the bread. I gave this place a try but will not return. read more

Second time eating here about a week ago, after moving to the area late last year. Really good food and great service, very attentive staff. We had a friend visiting us from NYC who has pretty high standards in eating out, and he was impressed as well. We tried two specials and one menu item, both were very well prepared with decent portions. The Standwood Grill could hold its own anywhere, in downtown Stanwood it's the best "fancy" dinner place in town. I have to say I'm surprised at some of the comments though, especially the ones that start with "considering the prices they charge..." I mean, our three meals were around $14-15 each plus an appetizer. Seriously, do you people get out much? These are like Red Robin or Boston's prices, and considering the quality and atmosphere plus the location this is a deal! I'm not sure how it could get any better. read more

Big disappointment. Wanted the salmon tacos and they were out of salmon. Very limited menu. It was cold in the restaurant and bathrooms and did not warm up. The bathrooms were also ratty and run down. The fish we did have was over cooked and the portions were way too small for the price. The dessert was mediocre and small for the price.
