Got my pants hemmed here. Lovely job - I expected serging to show, but it's neatly tucked under so no fraying will happen in the future. Super efficient! Work was done perfectly and on time. Came out on a hanger covered neatly with dry cleaning plastic. You might feel like balking at $16 for hemming a single pair of pants, but the quality of the work makes it totally worth it. First I would like to say I was that awful customer that needed an invisible zipper fixed asap for an event. I was referred from my dry cleaner who did not have an onsite seamstress. I showed up late morning/early afternoon to see if they were able to have the dress fixed by....the following morning. I was half expecting them to laugh in my face. Thankfully all I got were some raised eyebrows and a premium charge. I was happy to pay for the expedited service. I practically skipped out the door. The next day I promptly arrived to pick up my dress. My dress was ready and hanging awaiting my pick up. You could not tell one bit that the zipper had been replaced, altered or messed with. I wore it later that day to a wedding and it helped up beautifully throughly sitting, standing, and dancing. I will definitely use them again and recommend to my friends! read more

I had an appt elsewhere to get a bridesmaid dress hemmed, unfortunately it was cancelled so I found this place since it is local. Tony was awesome! I took my dress in on Monday and he had it ready for me by Friday since I told him the wedding was on Saturday. He was very straightforward and he spent no more than 5 minutes taking measurements. I want to add my great review to the ones below. My wife and I have been coming to Tony for years as well. Recently bought 2 pairs of Levi's jeans that had to have the legs shortened, not by much. Levi's doesn't do 29" lengths. Tony shortened them with the same color thread that Levi's uses. You can't tell the difference. My wife bought me a Levi's trucker jacket that had to have the sleeves shortened, by about a 1/2 inch. Picking them up next week. Can't wait. I've gone here twice and had great results both times. Once I found a gorgeous little black dress at sears (of all places) that made me look like I was a size zero, but the zipper was a little wonky. It was six dollars, yes, six dollars, at sears. I took it to Star and he fixed the zipper good as new. Last week I dropped off some curtains to be hemmed. One was a sheer eyelit-type and one was heavy black out with a liner and he hemmed them in three days for $20. Will definitely be back for any tailoring needs. read more

I got my wedding dress altered here a little over a month ago, I was actually recommended by a lady that works in the alterations department at Macy's. After going to 4 different places that either were going to charge me anywhere between $250-$400 or couldn't alter it at all because of the beading, Tony was an absolute godsend. He didn't try over charging me like the other alteration places try to because they figure they could mark up the price since it was for a "wedding". I read the reviews and figured I'd give it a go. I'm really short (5'5) and lean so it's really difficult finding pieces that fit me as I would like. I took a pair of wide leg dress pants and asked to have them taken in for a more fitted look. At 20$ they came out pretty good. So I decided to take my chance with a pair of button down shirts. I asked to have the sides and the width of the sleeves taken in and to raise the cuffs on one of them. The shirt that was taken in was fine. The seams were clean and the fit was great. The shirt with the cuff alterations however were disappointing. The seams weren't clean, there were stray threads everywhere and the stitches caused the fabric to pucker. Not a very good look if you're going for clean, sharp lines. But I wasn't too concerned by it as I tend to fold the sleeves up anyway. I still take pieces there but only those that need minor adjustments like shortening pants or taking shirts or pants in. read more

I went here based on the majority of reviews but now I see all the good ones were quite a few years ago. I went here to get three pairs of work pants taken in, he quoted me $25.00 a pair. Whoa! Way high. But I thought they would do good work so I ok'd it. He took them in way too much and now I'll need them redone, if I can. Furthermore, I couldn't pick them up for a couple weeks so they called me after a week and said they didn't have room and I needed to come and pay for them asap, very pushy. Also, CASH ONLY, they don't take any cards. I've since been going to another place on Fletcher another reviewer mentioned, prices are much more reasonable and service has been great. read more

I'm so glad I found this place through Yelp. I read reviews of other places in town and most shops had both good reviews and some not so good. I had two very expensive coats that needed alterations and I was extremely hesitant to take them to just any shop. I was most concerned about the quality of the workmanship and not the cost. This place has great customer service and does quality work. The prices are excellent, and they get even large batches done in a few days. The tailor and owner is Tony, who is very kind, and never makes me feel uncomfortable, even when taking measurements (even though I am super shy and self-conscious). He is the consummate professional. He takes careful measurements so everything is always the perfect length. The establishment is clean and nice. I grew up in Fletcher Hills, and have been coming here since I was a kid. My family has short legs, so we need to get a lot of clothes hemmed. My entire family has been coming here for years, since before they moved locations (their old location was also on Navajo, but a few blocks down). I think we've been coming here for about 30 years. I have since moved to Mission Valley, and even though this is no longer a particularly convenient location for me, I will continue to drive out of my way to come here. I would not consider going anywhere else. They have hemmed everything from dresses, skirts, shorts (including board shorts), and jackets for me. They once hemmed a jacket with decorative sleeves with buttons, so they took the length in above the decorative part, and it doesn't show at all (you can't tell it's been altered). I think they usually charge about $8 to hem something simple like jeans or shorts, and a little more for something more complicated. They did an excellent job hemming my formal bridesmaid's dress with sheer, delicate fabric. They have also fixed several holes for me. They charge hardly anything, and do quality work, so it's easier to bring it in than to try to do it myself. I once dropped off 8 sweaters with little holes, and they were done in less than a week. I think he only charged about $5 per sweater, and did such careful, neat work that you can't see where they are mended. Definitely worth it. I once got a little hole in my nice duvet cover (probably from my dog's sharp little nails). I brought it in, and we discussed how they would fix it. I told Tony to do whatever he thought would work best, a patch or whatever. I picked it up and didn't think to ask them how they had repaired it. When I got it home, I could not find a patch. But the hole was gone... I searched all over it, and finally gave up. It was like a miracle, I could not for the life of me find where the hole had been or where the repair was. It was months before I finally spotted it, and only because I happened to look right at it when I was laundering it. Tony had taken the tiniest little pintuck to hide the hole, and carefully did it right along with the brushstroke pattern of the fabric so it really doesn't show at all. He used the tiniest, neatest little stitches. It was genius, much better than a patch would have been. One time, I called them to ask how late they were open. They told me they closed at 6. I tried to get off work early enough to come by, but I was a good 15-20 minutes late. I almost didn't go at all, but I decided to try anyways just in case they happened to still be open. Not only were they still open, but they had stayed open late for me. I hadn't even said I was definitely going to be able to make it that day, but they stayed open late just for me, just in case. I felt really bad, and apologized profusely, but they were not upset at all. They are so friendly, and have great customer service. They really go the extra mile to treat their customers well. read more
