My mom took her car there for service and said she received horrible service. Customer service was none existent and she was treated like a number bs a customer. After her B service was done workers there told her they inspected the car and gave her the thumbs up. One week later, while driving she blew a flat and almost crashed into the guard rails. She will not be going back and will be taking it back to the dealership for work. Got a good rate on some fixes for my 2012 Audi A6: After the dealership told me I needed a new battery, and that they could only fix my exhaust issues by replacing the whole exhaust system, Edwin did some tests, and a free inspection, and suggested I not replace the battery yet, and that he could do a partial replacement of my exhaust system = saved me money! I don't know what to say about the owner, Edwin because I'm bit shocked to find out how greedy he was for the past few years and the parts that he replaced for my car was not the genuine parts and my car broke down for the same reasons again and again. I realized that he wasn't the good mechanic I once thought he was and my trust on this mechanic shop completely destroyed. I no longer trust Edwin and regret that I didn't try to find another mechanic long before it was too late. Star Auto is not just a good mechanic, they are a reason to buy a Mercedes. I look forward to my amazingly-engineered German automobile breaking just so I can come in and say hey to Edwin and his awesome team. No.. Maybe that's an exaggeration - but I don't know where I would be without this place. Probably collecting food stamps and sleeping in the back seat of my my E55. I've brought my 2005 E55 into Star Auto on two separate occasions, after having 3 other mechanics work on the car for various reasons. Of the other three mechanics, only one comes even within the realm of Edwin (coincidentally the place is also called Star Auto). But Edwin is the best. Trip 1: I brought the car in because it was leaking huge puddles of tranny fluid all over the place. Edwin was able to have one of his (also very cool, they all are) associates give me a ride back to work at Bishop Ranch so I could work while the repairs were done. I get a call a few hours later saying the tranny is fine, it was the gasket and 20-pin connector that were leaking. Edwin told me this was probably what it was even before he did the work. Many other mechanics would be vague and act like it's likely the entire tranny would need replacing. Edwin is a straight-shooter who will explain to you as technically as you want what he thinks the issue is and how he plans to resolve it. Cost me a few hundred bucks - no biggie. Dealer would probably charge a grand. Or better yet say the tranny needed replacing. Trip 2: The sunroof motor had dropped slightly and wasn't aligning with the body hence my sunroof did not operate without a horrific grinding noise coming from the gears. I asked Edwin if he'd do the work and he initially said he doesn't work on sunroofs, referred me to another place. However, he told me exactly what I wanted to hear which was that it's possible to shim the motor so it stays in place. Instead of replacing everything for $500+. I called back pleading with him to do it for me and he accepted. Brought the car in, got a call a few hours later saying it's done. Go pick it up and he was able to do exactly what he said he might be able to. He shimmed the motor (better design than factory) so it'll last a lifetime - all for an hour and half's labor. Even though it took him 2 and a half. Who does that?? No mechanic I've ever worked with before. When people say, 'Owning a Mercedes isn't that expensive if you find a good indie shop,' this guy invented the definition. Don't bring your Benz anywhere else and consider yourself lucky to live within reasonable driving distance of Star Auto of San Ramon. Edwin will help you max out your kid's college fund. read more

I never really saw a Yelp rating that was 100% 5-Star, so when I was looking for an independent repair service to work on my MBZ S430, I was compelled to try Star Auto (San Ramon) out. I met with Edwin and after a brief discussion felt very positive about his knowledge and competence. I admit to being a pretty capable car guy myself and have maintained several, older, collectible cars, as well as my fleet of 12 motorcycles. I have pulled and replaced engines and transmissions, repaired and rebuilt dozens of carburetors, reworked the innards of many components, and even crafted hard to find parts in my machine shop. Enough about me, just to say that I can sense auto repair double-talk miles away. Edwin meticulously went over my 'by-the-book' dealer maintained car with just over 100K miles and pointed out some things that the dealer in fact, had suggested, but found a few others that should have been part of an overlooked preventative maintenance schedule. He was very complete. His pricing was very fair, and the quality of his work very good. He uses top notch components in the critical areas and did a lot of simple repairs that weren't critical but were nice to get done. I am 100% delighted to find a company like this where I know I can trust every comment and recommendation they make. If I were in this business, this shop would be my business model. read more

I first came to Star Auto because BMW Concord quoted me a $5,000+ repairs on my 2003 X5, which made me almost choke. my friend told me to go over with the list of repairs and costs and see Edwin at Star Auto. I knew one of the reapirs was bogus, for I knew that a water pump doesn't leak oil, right? Nice BMW Concord, I'm not a dumb Chick! Anyway, Edwin, and his Certified Techs (Tony, in particular) fixed the BMW for less than $800.00, that was supposed to be over $5,000+...They are truly professional, and they do all of my mechanical repairs on all of automobiles now...:) I refer all of my friends over there, as well. Take this review with a grain of salt. I've had 2 interactions with Edwin and both have been polite, insightful, and helpful. I have not had work done by Edwin at the time of this review. My sister's 2000 BMW 328i has had "Check Engine" issues since as long as I can remember. When it failed a smog check for a computer error, not an emissions error, I was referred to Edwin by D&K Service Tire & Repair. I met Edwin, told him my situation, and he came to my car and used his computer device to evaluate the issues. He tried to trouble shoot right then and there. The computer told Edwin that there were 3 errors. It appeared that my car has a bunch of small leaks in the tubes and hosing and the gas cap might have been loose (I'm going to put that one on my sister). He dismissed the errors with the computer and told me to drive it until the light came back on. Sure enough after about 13 miles the "Check Engine" light was back with vengeance. I brought it back to Edwin and he popped the hood to make sure nothing was blatantly damaged. He told me that it would be best if I brought in the car and left it with him for a couple days so he could pin-point the problem. Throughout all of this he never once spoke down to me, he never suggested anything without me asking, and at no point in time did I feel taken advantage of. He also did all of the preliminary diagnostic and examination as a courtesy. When my family actually finds the time to drop our car off here I know that we will be leaving it in good hands. It's not a coincidence that Edwin has so many high-praise reviews. Also, there's a reason why his shop is super busy and PACKED full of cars (that and I think this just confirms my theory that European cars are garbage). You definitely need to go to Star Auto and talk to Edwin if you need someone to diagnose and explain to you any issues you have with your European car. read more

I came across Star Auto via Yelp and also saw their advertisement in a local ad booklet. Edwin is an honest and down to earth person. The staff was also very friendly. So based on yelp, I brought my car here for the first time. I've always brought the car back to the dealership. Edwin inspected the engine components with me in case he found anything that needed to be brought up. The car was brought in for a B service. The only thing in addition to the B service that was needed was the filter and I agreed after Edwin showed me what's been building up inside. Received transportation to get to work(in San Ramon) and few hours later, got a call the car was ready. All washed, paid less than half of what the dealership charges.....what else can you ask for?! This is the first time I have taken my 2015 Audi A3 for any kind of service outside of Livermore Audi (where I had purchased my vehicle). Long story short - I will NEVER be going back to Livermore Audi for servicing. Gonzalo and his team at Star Auto Services did an incredible job. He was professional and was extremely straightforward about the service needed along with cost (which ended up being a little under half the cost of what Livermore Audi was charging for the same exact same service!). One of the main reasons I took my car here was because of a wheel bearing that needed replacing (this was causing a very loud vibrating noise while driving). Excellent for Pre Purchase Inspection. I've done inspection at other mechanics nearby all of them take the car in and come bak with a report - Thats it. Edwin works really good - First he takes the car for a spin and tells you if there are any problems by feeling how the car drives. After that gives a report for the computer check, and finally, racks up the car and shows you exactly wat the problem is (leaks, cracks, etc). You actually get to see the problem. He gives a report and gives the estimate and recommends what is very important to fix right away and what can be done later/if necessary. These folks are very knowledgeable and honest. They are very deep in expertise of high end Mercedes-Benz vehicles. They expertly repair my AMG SL55 and are cautious about spending your hard-earned money. Gonzalo is very polite and helpful and really knows his stuff. The ABC suspension system on an SL class MB is very technically complex and they understand it very well. I appreciate their integrity and how they will say "the car will need X, Y and Z the NEXT TIME it is in for service" rather than try to get you to perform maintenance on your wallet. To start I usually don't write reviews but this is an exception. - Just brought in my Cadillac Escalade to Star Auto services today for a check engine light. I brought my other car( a Mercedes S550) in the shop before and remember they do free engine check light. Called them 5 mins before while driving in the same direction and they took me in even though they were very busy and immediately one of the mechanic( didn't get his name)started working on my car right away, even though he was swamped with other cars, but at this point he wasn't getting any reading. So after troubleshooting come to find out it had a blown fuse( my car)before even getting started with the OB2 reader could get a reading. After the mechanic replaced the fuse, mind while he was juggling with other cars and phone on the shoulder talking to a customer, he was still determined to find out for me. After a few minutes, Edwin came out and started working on my car, it finally gave him a reading and he found out the throttle body was causing the engine light to come on and he then immediately started working on it, pulling out the covers and the duct to the throttle body, it was a little challenge but he got it out to expose the valve and sure enough it was dirty. He cleaned and blew out the gunk and put everything back in place, and he even checked out the fluids if they were ok, noticed the steering fluid to be low and replaced it, not add but drained it and added new fluid. I was actually just speechless that they were going out of their way to find the problem and cleared it when I just came there for a free check engine light. I left out of there, after thanking so much for the going above and beyond the call for a free diagnostic and his time. All I can say is the guys there at Star automotive are true class act people that show professional, high exceptional service coming from knowledgeable technicians. You can count on the guys working there and Edwin for running a tight ship in his garage. Well above and beyond with work etiquette! Five stars is not enough to describe Star auto. Took our 2001 C320 for the B service. We were greated by Gonzalo. He explained what would be done during the service and that the car would be done in a couple of hours. His quoted price was almost $200 less than our previous service shop. When we arrived to pick up our car, Gonzalo took time to explain the work that was performed. He was very thorough. He noted that the transmission fluid was very clean(it changed at the last service) and that the plugs were new. He pointed out a small oil leak at the rear main seal. Recommended that we should monitor the oil level and that if it was slow then we need not worry. Gonzalo is very thorough and honest. We will highly recommend Star Auto to all our friends. read more

Truely amazing! I've been taking my German vehicles to Edwin for years and this last time I was beyond amazed. Our Mercedes had a problem holding a battery charge and after having the battery checked at Monument Auto, turned out to be bad. They suggested we charge it overnight and see if it would hold a regular charge. Did this but the next day car would start, then immediately die. Had car towed to Star Auto and Gonzalo and his team started their diagnosis. After leaving it overnight and much time his mechanics looking into it, they solve the issue to be a partially blown fuze. Since it wasn't fully blown, it would start then die. The real amazing thing was they did not take a single penny from us to resolve the issue even knowing that they must have spent a few hours looking into the cause. Real heros. I want to give another 5 stars review to Star Auto. Today, I took my car 2003 Porsche to replace the front bumper lip. They removed the old lip and replaced them with a new. They spent roughly 45 minutes, and did not charge me a penny. Which repair shop will do so in this day and age. As a note, I had taken the same car to them to replace the hydraulic lifters for the rear spoiler. They charged me parts and labor $2980. I got an estimate from European Auto in San Ramon for $3300 + tax ( the part is for about $2700 from the dealer, I am sure repair shop get a discount ). I would say if you have a European car and it is out of warranty, try them out and see for yourself. Just compare their prices from other repair shops. I do not have any affiliation whatsoever with Star Auto. I am just impressed and humbled with the quality of work, service, honesty and prices. read more
