First time visiting today with my family and things could of been better if they improve the service/attentiveness/friendliness. As we came in, the older lady dressed in all black just looked at my wife and asked "what do you need"....Not a welcome or anything. Again as first timers not the best first impression. She then went on to ask if we were there for pick-up, order, or dine in. Once we sat, we scanned the QR code to review the menu and placed our order with a younger lady. Food Overall, the food was good and had a great flavor. We went with shrimp and scallops, fries, chicken strips, and rice. Service This lacked big time. The entire hour we were there no one asked if we needed anything else, another order of drinks, water, etc. I had to flag the staff for water and then again had to get up to ask for our check. The staff primarily hanged out in the back talking instead of being in the front attentive to customers and people coming in for pick-up orders. The older lady has a bad demeanor and attitude. ------------------------------------------ Ownership needs to take a look at the team and make some changes fast. The takeout here is extremely inconsistent. Half the time the shrimp is cooked perfectly, with great flavors in the sauce, and half the time none of the shrimp are deveined and super mushy and difficult to peel. My guess is it depends on whoever is working the kitchen, but some quality control would be nice. read more

This was my first time ordering from this spot and i wish i would of had a better experience. I order seafood a lot so I can pretty much point out the difference between quality seafood and not really quality seafood. I ordered my food for delivery and right off the bat the smell was not pleasant to me. Smelt like old used grease. I still went ahead and opened my bag. I ordered a shrimp bag( with the head) with corn and sausage. When I usually buy my shrimp with the head on they still devein and clean the black stuff out but that was not the case here. The shrimp had this mushy texture to it as well as the sausage that threw me off very bad. Because of this mushy texture I could only take 1 bite out of the sausage, the sausage also had a pinkish color to it that did not sit right with me as well. The food here has gone really downhill, we've gotten more bad day than good. The shrimp is never fresh and always stuck to the shell, the crab is always skimpy. Not to mention the service.. seems they can't ever hold on to actual good servers, but continue to stick with the mean ones that have an ugly attitude. Given this place too many chances and the servers ruin the experience most of the time. They hardly come by your table or check in on you, you constantly have to get up and ask for a refill because they're too busy talking or on their phone at the front. We have been ordering from Star Crab since 2020. We've always had good service, with good food. Once we've had to report an issue with an order, but it was resolved. Tonight I placed my order thru Yelp, picked up the food and got home to find all of the shrimp in our bags was soft and mushy. The shrimp was sticking ti the shells, a clear indication the shrimp wasn't fresh. When I contacted the restaurant the man who answered said maybe I let the food sit too long once ordered. He said to drive all the way back, and he would make me a new order. I explained that wasn't possible this time of night. When I explained it wasn't overcooked, it was spoiled he said to call grub hub for a refund because he wasn't going to refund me. Contacted grub hub as suggested, and they too said the restaurant refused to give a refund. So they refunded me anyway. W have spent close to $1k over the past few years here- with each visit averaging $125-$160. Never again will they get a cent from me. Just be honest, and don't serve old food. Two stars because you didn't use to suck. read more

Went on a little lunch break here and let me tell you the food was DELICIOUS!!!! Did not expect such a good flavor shrimp was so flavorful and the calamari was super delicious as well ... the service was a little bit off there was only one more table inside beside my table and it took over 10 minutes for them to come and take my order or check in no one was in sight to take the order. I've always been a Boiling Crab girl but this place may change my mind. The prices are similar, and they have combo menu options! We got the combo #2 which had the snow crab clusters, crawfish, shrimp, sausage, potato, and corn which was a pretty good deal in my opinion. The flavor was really good and the seafood was cooked well. The fries could be better. Lemon pepper and Cajun. I called to order ahead to cut the wait time but when we arrived they said that we never ordered (confirmed the phone number and everything). There was also nobody eating at the restaurant which kind of made me think twice on if I wanted to get seafood from an empty restaurant. But I am glad I did because it was really tasty and would come again. (Always get the full house flavor, medium spice, and make rice or noodles and eggs at home to cut some of the costs!) read more

Initially I was a bit nervous to try this chain because I'm so used to a certain restaurant for years. I have tried many restaurants that have shrimp boils and I've been disappointed but this place took me by surprise. The quantity of food was perfect. The quality of the food was perfect. The City of Pico Rivera has a variety of restaurants that appeal to people who want diversity. Of course you can go to any of the local restaurants for a burger, chicken, or carne asada. However, something different and exciting came to Pico recently and I had to check it out! Star Crab is located on the corner or Rosemead Blvd and Washington Blvd. Take the Washington Blvd exit west off of the 605 freeway or the Lakewood Blvd northbound off of the 5 freeway to get here. It's on the northwest corner of Rosemead Blvd, in a small shopping center. It's easily missed when driving by so look for LA Fitness in the same lot and you'll know that you're in the right place. As stated earlier, Star Crab is new to the neighborhood and it replaced the old Rubio's location. They open a bit later in the day, around noon and closes at 10:00 PM. The interior is dark with an ocean inspired theme. Bibs are placed on each table for people who plan on grubbing on crawfish! They'll even give you gloves if you don't want to get your hands dirty while eating. The menu features typical Cajun dishes, including seasonal live crawfish. When my friend asked about the live crawfish, we were told that they didn't have any at this time and that they really didn't know when they'd be getting some in. I don't eat anything that's cooked live so this was a conversation for my friend to have with our waitress! In the end, I ordered fried catfish, white rice, and Cajun fries. My friend ordered the crawfish and corn on the cob. While we waited for the food to arrive, we couldn't help but notice that their sound system was having issues. They were playing some 90s pop but then after a song or two, it went radio silent. Then out of nowhere, music was bumping again! Once again, it would just completely shut down. The owner was working on the sound system throughout the duration of our visit and that did serve as a bit of distraction. However, all that I wanted to do was to enjoy a great meal! I'd say that we waited about 10-15 minutes for our food to arrive. My friend's crawfish was served in a bag that was oozing Cajun spice. She put on her gloves and began to eat. She said that it was ok but that The Boiling Crab was better. I've never been to their competitor's restaurant so I was less biased when it came to my meal. The catfish was deeply coated with cornmeal. It was nice and crunchy on the outside. I applied some Cajun spice to my fish to give it some more flavor and then it was actually pretty good! People wrote about poor service at Star Crab in their Yelp Reviews. However, our waitress was always checking on us so our experience was different from others. Plus, the owner checked in with us several times, bringing us silverware, gloves, and more spices. He's a young guy who really is focused on making sure that this business becomes well-established in Pico. I really like what Star Crab brings to Pico Rivera. I grew up in the area and have seen many businesses come and go. I really hope that Star Crab is here to stay! If you're in the area, stop by and hasome Cajun food. I visited this place on Monday Oct 16th. We had shrimp, fries & rice. My 2 kids and myself were up all night sick from our stomachs. I called in on Tues Oct17th to speak to manager "Steve" and I was told he would be in after 6pm. I then called @ 6:30 and was told that he wasn't there at the moment so I asked when he would be there the employee who answered than chuckled and said "she didn't know" than she said he wouldn't be there today & he kind of just shows up whenever. So a manager just shows up whenever umm ok. So I guess Mr. Steve wants me to show up in person and request this refund for his no good food in front of his customers. read more

Just know this place is average at best. Your best bet is to head over to Ritters or stinkin crawfish. I'm not a food snob, but my family is creole, so I'm a little harder when judging food from a place like this... The gumbo is terrible to be honest, the Roux is really bad, and the sausages they use are not even close to being decent andouille sausages. Way to much Okra, and rice already put into it which causes it to mush. No real signs of meat in there besides the two hot dog looking sausages. It was basically vegetable soup. So id avoid the gumbo it's not worth it's price. Real gumbo cost money because it's expensive to make, so I should have known better. The catfish is okay and it's not to bad, but the shrimp is flat. This place seems to stay neutral with their seasoning which takes away the entire point of having Creole/Cajon food. Maybe it was a bad day but I for sure wouldn't come back, or waste my cash... Today was a 3-star experience, but I'm rating it 4 because Ive rarely been this disappointed at SC. Why I almost rated 3: Sooo pretty much all SCs are my favorite but today was so mediocre! I had to scrape the bottom of the bag to snag any lil sauce that came with it. ??? Why ??? This never happened before. My bag was essentially flavorless & I've had bags with little amt of sauce before but not to this level where I had to really work for it. & I also don't remember them using frozen corn before, but the mushy, soggy, flavorless corn was sooo disappointing. Why I kept the 4: Today has been the one time where I've been decently disappointed here! I visited many SC around socal & this was def not my first time visiting the one in pico rivera. This is my favorite Cajun seafood joints in the area! This is our 3rd time dining in & we must say it's as good as The Boiling Crab and super close to our home. Way better than the Cajun seafood spot in Downey and decently priced. My wife and I got 1/2 lb of shrimp, 1 lb of green mussels and (regular) crab legs with the full house medium sauce & 2 corns/Potatoes. Cooked to perfection, it was super easy to peel the shrimp. The seasoning was on point, perfect amount of garlic and spices. We really enjoyed the king crab we got last time - sooo much crab and flavor! Totally worth the $45. The location is nice, spacey and usually doesn't have a wait. The food is fresh and comes out quickly. Love the fact that they give you gloves. & friendly staff. Many clams were shattered therefore created a crunchy meal. It was painful to chew through it and could not finish it. An easy rinse would suffice to continue eating but there's not need for extra steps considering the price. The shrimp was good and the green muscles were amazing with salt and lime. Overall, not satisfied. I was looking forward to the remainder of the clams and actually pushed through a few until it became unbearable on my teeth . Conclusion, I will not reorder from them. Very Tasty! Their Family deal is excellent for 4 people and their garlic cajun sauce (mild) is our go-to. If there's ever leftover sauce after our family devours the meal, it makes for an excellent seafood based red sauce (like a spicy cajun version of garlic noodles) for pasta. read more

We walked in which was not on a busy day! Me and my husband walked in and there was no acknowledgment at all! There was a heavy set female in the front by the cash register who walked right pass us. We waited for about 10 minutes then my husband walked up and asked if we are going to get any assistance. This other grouch girl pointed where we could sit then came back up to us 5 minutes later asking what we wanted to order. We told her that we didn't have a menu and she said we could scan the QR code. I told her that would have been nice if she instructed that while we were seated.
