He told me that there was misfire on my truck . He showed me the part that needed to be replaced . He came back the second day and fix it . Overall, this is my default car repair shop. Its family run, they have always been prompt and thorough in their repairs, Best of all, they charged a good price, about half what the dealer would charge. I stopped going to the dealer when they lowered the air in my tires resulting in lower mileage and extra wear on the edges of my tires. I've had my brakes replaced including new pads and rotors in the rear. About a month ago, my AC kept on leaking fluid. They put their diagnostics tools on my car. In a few minutes, they new what was wrong...it was a faulty water pump. They got the part and replaced it all within 4 hours. A few days ago, they did my oil change for $30. And as I write this. they have a yelp deal...$100 for $125 worth of services. Although they work with you if you walk in, you'd be better off making an appointment. What's cool about an oil change here is it only takes about 40 or so minutes depending how busy they area. In that time, you could go to some restaurants within walking distance (Japanese, Sushi, Yoshinoya, Taco Factory, Carl's Jr. Jack in the Box, etc. You could drop off your car, eat a quick lunch, and your oil change is done. Heck, there is even a dive bar behind them... ..just sober up before you pick up your car. Price was great. Timing was great. But when I went under my car myself, I was missing bolts & my exhaust had been leaking. This is a turbo car, performance is needed for it to actually run normally. Having it leak, my gasket melted. So I had to remove my whole turbo & headers myself to repair their mistake they made of leaving my headers with a ginormous leak. Not to mention 2 days after I'm driving with 2 kids in my car & my wife & the metal skid plate falls off and is hanging on my 1 plastic clip. Last time I saw that many sparks was when I watched fast & furious. Anyways, I should've paid the price at the shop. I'm sure they can do brakes and oil changes but besides all the simple things I wouldn't trust them to get in under my hood ever again. Made the mistake of leaving them a great review before I checked their work. Just thought that I'd help anyone else from making the mistake I did. I called him for parts and was pleasantly surprised that he offered to come see my Jeep and make sure that is what I needed, as the parts that I was requesting didn't sound right. I will say that I was quite disappointed on my last trip here. Out of nowhere the island machines did not take cash. I was like whoa whats going on and realized I had to go inside to get gas since I am not a debit card user... I don't want to wake up and hear that Arco's debit card charging system has been hacked so yeah... cash it is here... unfortunately that means you have to go inside and wait behind whatever weirdos are in line in front of you to get gas and any cash back... Talk about a total Pain in the AZZ! Well other than that this is your typical mini Arco gas station. Cheapest gas I know of in Tustin, since I used to fill up in HS here a lot... After getting my smog checked with the so called "Pros", I learned that there are deals that are too good to be true. I was in need of a smog check, so I would do what every other person would do, is to look for the best price. I have been seeing coupons here and there for smog checks, and most of the deals ended up being $29.95 + DMV registration fees etc. So I found this perfect location very close to my work place which had a coupon for $24.95 smog check. This was clearly the best price, and best location. So for the sake of price and convenience, I went to the Smog Pros. *Flash forward* I m handing over my VISA card and getting rolled for $55.88. Whoa whoa whoa.. how did this happen? Such a great deal on paper, but the price ended up doubling from what was advertised? Buyer be warned like they say. I dropped my car off at this tiny all around repair/oil change/ smog shop and spoke to an "Armenian" looking man. I told him I found a coupon online advertising smog checks for $24.95. I also understand that there is a $8.25 DMV registration and a $1.85 transmission fee since it was stated on the coupon. (Apparently they are still using the dial up modem, and they can't afford ATT or any long distance carriers, so I will have to pay for that transmission.) So all in all I shouldn't expect a smog check for more then $35. Which should still sound reasonable right? Apparently not. After talking with the man, he also mentioned that with a vehicle that is "newer" then 1996 will require an ODB II electronic fee of $10. (ODB II is an electronic device they plug into the computer of your car to tell what error codes it transmits from the smog check). Now why would this not be included in the smog check, since its probably going to be required for most vehicles? Is he that naive in thinking that everyone in the Irvine Tustin area are rolling in with a beater to get smog checked? I guess so, but the plot thickens after I sign off on my $45 quote. I come back 30 minutes later and I was standing there still trying to figure out what exactly this ODB II entails watching the man hook my car up to the electronic device. He fired up the car, walked around in circles looking a little confused. Then he opened up my gas tank and loosened up the gas cap and put it back on. He walks over to me and explains, "Your gas cap sir... has a leak". In my mind I m thinking "..you gotta be F'in kidding me here.. " "How much?" I ask. "$10 or I will have to fail". I like how they put you in this interesting predicament. You make a $45 commitment which is a one way street, and if you don't pony up an extra $10, you will end up losing out on everything. Whata shitty gamble coming to this place. Out of frustration I asked, "So $10 and nothing else right?!!" "Yes sir!" in a thick Armenian accent. So all in all I ended up paying $55.80, and heres how it breaks down: $24.95 (smog check after coupon) $8.25 (DMV reg, you owe the government this) $1.85 (shitty modem fee cause the Armenians can't afford DSL) $10(ODB II fee, a fee thats going to be charged because you have a car) $10 +tax (new gas cap, lets add a little KY to your raping charge) In all seriousness, I did learn a lesson about smog checks. I learned that driving a used car is an investment that will cause you to lose money continuously and I m glad I am just borrowing this car. And I also learned that if you go to a smog checking station, you can avoid all these bogus charges in the first place. Wow it's been almost one year that I haven't stopped. Anyways I stopped by because my mom was driving her green Prius and her AC shut off (stopped working). Luckily I've had amazing experience here before and didn't feel intimidated to try this place again . I've always had impeccable service here however this time I Felt as if I walked in a Ritz Carlton of Mechanics. Roger was in the front desk and I was amazed on how he was pro-active and efficient In seeing what was wrong with my moms cars AC and effective in taking care of my needs. Ultimately he plugged in some machine and told me the problem and fixed it. The short of it: - DO NOT COME HERE FOR SMOG CHECK - UNRELIABLE The long of it: Made an appointment the day before to get a smog check. They took down my name and number and I was all set for my appointment at 11:30am the next day. Next day comes around, I arrive from my appointment and one of the repair guys says the smog technician is not here. And that he's not coming in today. WTF. Apparently there's only one smog check technician...so I asked the guy why did he bother setting up an appointment?!? Sadly the repair guy had no answer for me. He was nice enough to refer me to another smog check place. Another thing which bugged me was why didn't the smog check guy call me to cancel the appointment. Yesterday I went back to get my car. They changed my timing belt and water pump. However my car still doesn't work. They told me it's the cylinder head that is messed up and it'll be around $600 (low estimate) and can be much more depending on how badly it's damaged. $350+$600 for my car!? It's a 94 camry, I don't even think it's worth that much! So I called a friend who recommended another place. We had it towed from here to Alfa Auto Repair. They said they'll look through it and see what's wrong before they quote me a price. I went to eat lunch with my friend while we wait for my car. They called me and told me my car works now. WHAT? How's that possible?? Tustin Auto Care told me until I change the cylinder head it won't work. The new mechanic told me the cylinder head is fine, what was wrong was Tustin Auto Care messed up when putting in the timing belt, they did something wrong. New mechanic redid the job and said it works fine now. So how do you think I felt when it was JUST the timing belt and I didn't need other things done to my car. Saved $600! I'm angry at Tustin Auto Care, they didn't do a great job, which I thought they would've since so many people rave about them. I guess only come here to get simple things done like smog checks and oil changes, other repairs-- go somewhere else. Now time to write a review for Alfa Auto Repair in Santa Ana. read more

I have always had good service by this place until I needed to go again 2 weeks ago. Now I am the lone dissenter among the glowing reviews. I decided to try this place again due to the reviews. I went there on a Saturday morning as the reviews and Yelp stated that they opened at 8:30. They actually open at 9. When I went up to the desk for service, I was told that the person who did the smog check was no there so the man called him and said that he wasn't answering his phone. I asked when he would be in and he could not answer my question. I ended up going somewhere else who was ready, willing and able to take my money and get me in and out of there. The moral of this story is don't advertise yourself as such a business if you cannot provide the service. I'm usually very cautious about where i take my car because i've heard so many horror stories with mechanics ripping people off and using cheap parts on their. The sticker in the window encouraged Yelp Reviews so here goes. I would give 0 stars but that's not an option. I called a day or two prior and made an appointment for 9 am today. I showed up for an oil change and after over 20 minutes with no one in sight, I left. I had my 11 month old with me and was uncomfortable waiting in front of a gas station on a busy intersection with people in and out. If that's the service I got with an appointment then how was my car going to be treated? The woman working at the gas station did her best to reassure me that "he" (whoever he is) should be there soon. I understand things happen and I called before I left and told the answering machine that I would no longer need an appointment because I was no longer waiting. The fact that it's now the end of the day and no call back apologizing or anything of the sort tells me that they don't want or need my business. I'm not looking for anything in return but it's good business to follow up as someone like myself may go online and share my experience, or lack there of. UPDATE: I was contacted by someone who worked at this Smog repair via Yelp, could be the owner for all I know. He cursed me out, told me I was stupid and more I don't think Yelp would let me post. So I've been one of those "silent majority" types of Yelp users for years now, and had such a great experience at this place that I wanted to get started on reviewing. I came in to get my Automatic Transmission Fluid gasket and fluid changed. Quick easy and no crazy mark up. They removed and replaced my gasket with the an actual gasket not that silicone crud other places put on! Also, they added a new filter and dealer recommended ATF fluid without the 3x dealer markup. Love these guys, a few weeks later my father was looking around to get his big Dodge Sprinter a smog (diesel smogs can run super pricey) so he was getting crazy quotes and then I told him about this place. They hooked him up for the smog They have a crazy deal going on that costs $30 for a smog including certificate when the cheapest I was finding was around 60 bucks including certificate. Came here for a smog check without an appointment and was in and out in under 30 minutes. Very efficient :) The people working were all very nice. Make sure to mention the yelp check-in when they're taking in your info though. I mentioned it at intake, and the employee kind of nodded, but didn't mark the price change. When I was paying, a different person said I had to tell them at the beginning :/ luckily, he let me have the discount when I told him what had happened. I've been here countless times due to their quick services and reasonable prices. Manny is very honest and always tells you what should be worked on and what you can hold off on. With one of my recent visits, I went in to get a second opinion about my front brakes and rotors (I was previously told they both needed a replacement.) Manny showed me how warn my brakes were but assured me that new rotors was not necessary. If you are there when they open or make an appointment, you'll be in and out fairly quick unless you have major problems with your car. Smog tests only take them about 5-10 mins! They work quick! If you notice on the low star rating reviews no one is complaining about the quality of work they do. The low rating stars listed on there yelp are problems any mechanic can have.
