We really enjoyed the food here and the ambiance was good (think not too quiet) for our 15 month old grandson. Our adult children enjoyed the menu and there were plenty of vegetarian options. We had been to Star Noodle when it first opened by Top Chef runner up Sheldon. It used to be in a funny industrial area but has since moved to Lahaina and sold to a new chef. However, the menu is pretty much the same and the food is both tasty and fairly inexpensive compared to most of the restaurants in the area. I would definitely plan if you want to sample the food as reservations fill up months in advanced. We decided to do take out and called in our order at 4 PM. We were told our pick up time was at 5:40. We had tried a few days earlier but the phone was always busy and hard to get through! My favorites are the pork belly buns, Singapore noodles (you have to like curry) Pad Thai and the miso salmon. I highly recommend the place as we always get food every time we visit. read more

A fellow passenger on our flight recommended this place, and it was a crowd-pleaser. We came for a late lunch so the restaurant wasn't packed. I asked our great server about veggie options, and she stated just about everything could be made vegetarian. She also confirmed that I could have tofu added to dishes so I went for that with the garlic noodles. It was a great addition, and I think the noodles would have been too plain without it. We ate most of our dishes family style other than the hapa ramen that my husband ordered. He said it was a good ramen but not a standout. After having numerous excellent meals at Star Noodle both in the old location and new it was a very disappointing experience yesterday for lunch. We had touted what a fun place it was to our guests visiting from Portland, and excited for them to have a good meal there. They are vegan, we are not, so each couple ordered 2 plates to share between themselves. The server, Sarah, was nice enough, and we ordered right away. After a relatively short wait the served arrived with 3 of the 4 meals ordered, saying enjoy your meal and walked away. We assumed my wife and I would received our 2nd plate immediately after. After waiting 5 minutes I asked the server if our noodles were coming. She just nodded her head, and walked away. 10 minutes later we received our dish while our guests were almost done. No apologies, no explanation from the server. I have been in the restaurant business, and worked the finest restaurants in Seattle, and would never leave a customer sitting there wondering why their meal had not arrived without an explanation. The server clearly forgot our order, and didn't seem to care. It was kind of embarrassing to encounter a server with such little regard for their patron. It doesn't matter how busy you are, you should treat all patrons like they are the most important person there. Likely won't be raving to new visitors about Star Noodle in near future. Wow, even 4 years after our first visit to Star Noodle, the food is just as good, if not better! We made a reservation for 4 a few weeks prior to visiting Maui over the holidays and lucky for us as the place was packed even at 4:30 pm! We started with the Ahi Avo, which was on special that night. Yum, incredibly fresh Ahi served with lemon pressed olive oil, sambal hot red pepper sauce, and usukuchi soy sauce. It was toped with lots of scallions and we were instructed to mix the sauce in after it was served. This was a perfect way to start the meal with sashimi, but taken up a notch and not overdone with the sauces, but very delicately applied as to enhance the flavor of the fish and avocado. Another special not on the menu that night was the 16 ounce rib eye. Oh boy, this was a delight. Seasoned perfectly and cooked just right at medium rare. They applied a tasty spicy miso glaze to it, which complimented the steak beautifully. We devoured this dish with aplomb. We also tried the pad thai, which was also very enjoyable. More traditional in style than the other dishes, but a quite large portion and the texture of the noodles plus the garlic chives made the dish. We ended our meal with both the malasadas and mango pudding. Loved the malasadas. Crisp exterior and fluffy/slightly chewy inside. Accompanied by choclate and butterscotch caramel sauce and peanuts. I thought the sauces were overkill and absolutely unnecessary, so I ignored them, and just savored the delightful portugese doughnuts. The mango pudding was good, and offered a very bold, sweet and slightly tart mango flavor, but it did not compare to the malasadas. Overall we had a fantastic meal at Star Noodle. We were suggested this place for lunch. It took us weeks in advance to book a reservation. The place looks like it is operating on limited capacity due to COVID. However, if you come at 11am you could possibly get a walk in table. If you get in, the scenery is beautiful. Located right at the edge of the beach with the ocean wind cooling the outdoor restaurant. All of the food here is amazing. I particularly enjoyed the fried chicken appetizer, pork buns, and the signature garlic noodles! the ramen was also great but I would say the star was definitely the garlic noodles. Combine all of those amazing features with great staff and you've got yourself an extremely hard to beat place to eat. We read a lot of good things about star noodle so decided to stop by and try it out. At first you can't tell if they're busy or not and wonder why reviewers say to book a reservation. Well, after you check in, you soon notice the seating area outside around the corner! So if you don't have a reso, expect to wait 45-60 mins as a walk in guest. The food... is definitely Asian fusion, no Asian cooks in the kitchen and the flavours are definitely Asian influenced. We ordered the Hapa ramen and the soup was bland and the noodles were machine made and the taste and texture was strange. We also ordered a plate of Gai Lan but got Yu Choi instead, not sure if they know the difference, but if your Asian you know Gai LAN is much more expensive! It was also a bit over cooked so it was soggy The Thai chicken wings were tasty but it had a hard thick crust of something over them. I had the Saimin stir fry which was also light on flavour. Star Noodle has been a long time favorite of ours when we visit Maui. The new location is amazing and I love that COVID has made them reservation only. The food is as great as it always was, but not waiting for 45-60 minutes in the parking lot was great. I hope with the expanded capacity of the Front Street location that reservations will remain a thing once COVID is over. With regard to food, the Vietnamese Crepe, Garlic Noodles and salmon are our go to dishes. We also tried the Singapore noodles and gailan. Everything was delicious and served quickly. We tried so many great dishes like the pork buns which are t on the menu, teriyaki chicken and shrimp tempura were wonderful appetizers, they come with 3 but asked for 4 for an up charge. This little cozy place came highly recommended and did not disappoint! Currently you MUST have a reservation and there are no same day reservations available. The on line booking will give you options for future open booking times. They will take walk-in customers IF someone cancels or no-shows, but I wouldn't count on it. We arrived 30+ minutes early and they were able to seat us rather quickly, but they didn't have tables for other walk-ins without a reservation. Most of those people ordered take-out. We had their special cocktail which was a tasty watermelon margarita, the miso salmon, fun chow, and egg plant, plus 1 steamed rice. LOVED every bit of it! The reception and wait staff were awesome. Yet another Hawaiian restaurant with decent reviews on yelp that didnt live to the hype and charged $$. We went here since this was one of the few restaurants that was open in the tropical storm. We tried the garlic noodles with shrimp and Singapore noodles. Both were sub par. Garlic noodles barely had garlic and had the tiny shrimps Singapore noodles had exactly 3 shrimps in them! Cmon guys, if you charge us a decent $$, least you can do is throw some shrimps in the noodles. The single biggest reason why this restaurant deserves a star is because even after 4 hours after the meal, I am still recovering from the excess oil and MSG. I have come to a general conclusion that i need to stay away or disregard a place if I see a certain kind of review. Unfortunately, Star noodle succumbed to my hypothesis. Maybe it's the bougie SF foodies scene but I did not think Star Noodle was held to the standard of it's reviews. 1. Staff seems like they can careless to be there. 2. We had 2 appetizer dishes which came out pretty quick, so that's a plus. 3. Pork Bao looked good. Pork wasn't juicy or super flavorful. It was just okay. 4. Garlic Noodles didn't taste as though it had any garlic. The noodles were thin, not the type of noodles I've seen for garlic noodles. We added pork and shrimp. I have a thing with small shrimp. I often feel I'm being gypped when I get a plate with small cup of noodle frozen shrimp vs. real shrimp. In addition, they are pretty greasy. 5. Our bartender brought us 2 Sapporo beers by mistake when we said 1 and still proceeded to charge us for his mistake. Sure dude, that's fine. 6. The space is small, so I don't recommend for big parties Overall, I would not wait the amount of time people are waiting to be seated. I want to start off by saying that the staff here was super attentive and friendly. That is from the hostess​, to the waiter we had. But right off the bat, one thing that was a sticking point was that I called, and they wouldn't put my name down. Rather the policy was that you had to physically be there to have your name added to the list. Anyways, my family came here and we tried a couple of things. Maybe it was a case of anticipoinment because the reviews sang​ such high praise, but nothing here wowed us. I had the pad thai, which they could not make spicy and did not have a chili powder for me to add in myself. Instead,​ they had this weird chili garlic paste I could add in, which wasn't spicy and didn't have a good flavor. I thought that the Pad Thai had a nice smoky flavor to it, which I liked, but other than that, it was kind of a letdown. My parents got a chef special, which they really did not like at all. And we also ordered a special of vegetable rangoons, which were my least favorite rangoons ever. They tasted like hot mushy spinach/broccoli with a slight crunchy coating. I wasn't a fan. We made reservations weeks before coming to the islands and tried to get another one later in the week but no luck. Everything out doors on a wooded property next to the Old Lahina Luau. We arrived at 7PM and got to hear the show next door with our dinner. Mixed drinks are pricy at $14 but very tasty. The tempura shrimp were the biggest I have ever had and perfectly cooked. I was skeptical about the clams with black bean sauce but it was very good and served with steamed buns to soak up the juice. Singapore noodles were very tasty. Everyone orders the pork buns and now we know why. The shrimp and buns come in 3s so they ask if you want 2 each. This is not a freebie and we decided that we would just spit the odd one. The setting was perfect, right on the water. Good service by Max F. Watch out for the default 20% tip. You can change it but that is what is programmed on their electronic hand held charge machines (like they use in Europe). I would give this a 4/5 and the Vietnamese crepe was absolutely perfect. The wrap was crunchy and he flavors worked really well together. And it's savory rather than a traditional sweet crepe. If you come, you have to try the Vietnamese crepe! I didn't like the Singapore noodles, but that's because I'm not a fan of the curry taste. The noodles in the fried soup dish were too soft (would have been better if it were chewy). The ramen was pretty bland. The Vietnamese crepe is what redeemed the restaurant. We were starving on our way to our hotel from the airport and randomly found this place for an early afternoon meal. Even though we arrived at an odd time, the restaurant was still pretty packed! We were originally going to get to-go but a pair of seats opened up at the bar so we decided to dine-in instead. My husband and I decided to split the Hapa Ramen...even though we only ordered one item, it took almost forever and a day. The bartender was very friendly and tried to rush our order so that kind of helped subdue our hunger. The broth was not the traditional ramen broth you would expect but it's still good. The meat was VERY fatty and the egg a bit on the salty side. We decided to stick around a little longer for their malasadas because it's a super popular dish and we kept seeing it coming out of the kitchen! The best Asian Fusion Option we were able to find during our short stay in Maui. The place is in a random corner of a dead end street but it is always full. They don't take reservations ahead of the time so you have to show up and put your name down. They are good about letting you know when your table is ready and giving you 10-15mins to show up. Since it isn't very far from the most popular resorts in Kanapali you can always drive back to your hotel and come back if the wait is 30mins or more. There are also plenty of cafes and grocery stores in the malls next to it to help you kill time. The food and service were great. There are only two vegetarian starters and two vegetarian entres but they were nice enough to modify one of the meat dishes to veggie for us. We had the Vegetable Rangoons (they are like gyozos but crispy and were DELICIOUS), the veggie dumplings and the Garlic noodles straight off the menu and then had the Singapore noodles modified with the chicken and shrimp replaced with Tofu and Shrimp on the side.
