We happened to walk by at 11am on a Tuesday and there was no line, so we popped in. I think they were on their last 20 cinnamon rolls and everything else on the breakfast menu was sold out. But we got two and they were indeed the best cinnamon rolls I've had. Not greasy or cakey, perfect with a cup of coffee, and held up the next day with reheating. I wouldn't have stood in line for an hour in the sun, but I'm glad we went. But the best thing was the interaction with the staff - the person at the register was friendly and kind and we had an unexpected heart-warming exchange about a hat I was wearing about an Indigenous land defender in Honduras. We went to Papi's Ohana 3 times this trip. We did a 5am wake up call for cinnamon rolls, cookies and scones for one visit, pizza for another and lastly strolled in at 11am another day to grab more scones and cinnamon rolls. Must haves: The mango and pineapple scones are amazing. Our 3rd trip in was just to get scones, because I couldn't stop talking about them! I liked to put them in our fridge, and just break off pieces as I walked by. I swear they are even better and more flavorful the next day! The cookies are so good! My son called them the best he has had, and is wanting us to try and recreate them when we get home. They come in a box cold, and 10 seconds in a microwave really brings them to life! We got a second box with our pizza, because they were that good. I'd eat again: the cinnamon rolls are good. It's what they're known for, and I agree they are delicious and well worth the cost. I'm not sure I'd get up at 5am again for them. However, when we rolled through at 11am and they still had some, you best believe we picked some up! The skip: I would not get their pizza again. Is it good? Yes. Is it "stand-in-line-forever" good? Not for me. I'm just past the stage of chasing hype, but based on the crowds wrapping around the corner, I'm clearly in the minority. The cinnamon rolls, though, are the real deal: soft, gooey, draped in glaze and yet somehow isn't overyly sweet, and when they're warm they just melt in your mouth. If you don't feel like reading my whole review, here's the short version... the hype is real and worth the trip! My wife's sister, who just moved away from Hawaii told us about this place. She told us we had to come here. She made sure to mention to carve out a couple hours of the day, because we'll be waiting in line. As you can see pictures from other people's reviews, that's definitely the case. We took an Uber over there, and as soon as we got in the car and the driver mentioned the address he said, are y'all ready to wait?!?! I think we got there around 10 AM and the line was already long! We knew we would have to be very patient this day. Luckily it wasn't super hot outside so that helped with the waiting process. They did have someone come around and offer coffee and water to purchase while we waited in line. I thought that was pretty smart under the circumstances that everyone has to deal with while waiting here. After probably a 2 hour wait... we finally got in! They have other options of things to eat. Scones, croissants and things like that. We were there for the star player... the cinnamon roll! These things are huge! My wife and I said since we waited so long, we might as well get two and enjoy one of them for later. I never envisioned myself waiting two hours for a cinnamon roll, or any other type of treats, but this was well worth it. We wanted to have one while it was fresh out the oven, so we found a bench to sit at around a bus stop. It was so soft, pretty much melted in your mouth. The icing was tasty. It was so fresh, it's the best cinnamon roll I've ever had in my life. I'm sure spending two hours of your time being in Maui you don't want to sit in line waiting on something like a cinnamon roll, trust me I felt the same way. After doing this, I WILL do it again the next time I'm there! This is such a special family business! We usually stay on the south side of the island, so it's about an hour's drive to Papi's for us--but the drive and the wait are always worth it. Can't believe no pics were taken. That's how you know food and company were both incredible! Finally tried their pizza and it did not disappoint. Had the veggie pizza and it was simple yet flavorful. We had 2 separate pickups, one for my brother and one for his in laws, 4 pizzas in total. I think all together we had vegetarian, pineapple/pepperoni, Hawaiian and vegetarian plus pepperoni. Everyone from the kids to grandpa enjoyed the pizza and dare I say it might even be better as cold leftovers? Crust isn't heavy so it's easy to want to grab another slice. So! Was it worth it? After 2.5 hours wait, we made it. Come early if you wanna get some cookies or croissants, they ran out quick. They were very nice, before the shop open they walk around offering folks for ordering coffee or water, they also offer umbrella to beat the heat and chairs to sit down. PRO TIPS: - Come early! Doors open 7am but I'd recommend jumping in line at 6:45am at the latest. We came at 7:30am and were here until closer to 10am. - Another option is coming closer to 10/10:30am for less wait time, but it is a gamble because they have sold out before. If you're looking for fresh, delicious humongous cinnamon rolls made daily, this is the spot for you! They make dozens of cinnamon rolls and have a system in place to to keep the line moving. I hate to be the bearer of bad news for those who don't like to wait in line, but the line is totally worth it. I honestly did not want to stand around in line for a cinnamon roll, which are not my favorite (so I thought it wouldn't blow my mind) but I'm really glad my boyfriend convinced me to wait. We were in line for ~40 minutes at 9:40 AM on a Monday. There's plenty of coffee places nearby (including Papi's own coffee service) to help pass the time. I heard about this from Yelp's Top 100 list and then from multiple friends that come to Maui often. The line is no joke - waited 45 minutes in the rain. The mango scone tasted like a regular scone to me and I didn't get any mango chunks in mine, so maybe just mango flavor? I feel like this business gets a pass on their operations because they are genuinely kind and good people, but a woman fainted while waiting in line (the owners wife shared that medical emergencies happen often due to waiting so many hours in the heat), so the lack of identifying a better solution is risky in a way that is actually causing harm. Man I'm bummed to not give 5 stars because I wanted the hype to be worth it but unfortunately for us it wasn't. We came on a Friday morning around 7 am and waited for over 3 hours. Thankfully they didn't sell out of anything, so we were able to get a cinnamon roll and a tropical scone, but did hear of folks waiting for over 4 hours and not being able to get what they wanted which is tough. Maybe it's because I'm an avid baker and have specific tastes when it comes to cinnamon rolls, but this one was not worth 3 hours of waiting in the sun. It was for sure very fluffy and VERY sweet, but there was almost no cinnamon in ours and the frosting didn't have that classic tang you usually get in cinnamon buns. If you told me it was a sweet bread then sure, A+, but for me this didn't hit the mark for "cinnamon roll". I was also very excited for the tropical scone, but when we took it out of the bag it was VERY overbaked and almost charred, and tasted bitter from being so dark. There was only 1 piece of pineapple in the entire scone (which was massive) which I was really sad about. The actual scone was very fluffy too and had good flavor, but it wasn't a tropical scone. Both items had a good base, but needed much more oomph in the filling dept in my opinion. All in all, I'd recommend coming later to avoid the huge initial wait (though you might risk them selling out), but I'm not sure if I'd say this was worth 3 hours of our time. read more

Oh my goodness! This is the best cinnamon roll I have EVER eaten. My only complaint is that I live in Arizona- I want to grab a flight just to come eat here again! The cinnamon roll is everything I was looking for, and it's also huge (bigger than my face!). No part of the roll is dry, and the dough is soft. The frosting is indulgent without being heavy, and the cinnamon filling is pleasantly spiced without being overly sweet. Don't get me wrong, though- this cinnamon roll is RICH- in the best way! One thing I will say is that I am not kidding that these are huge- unless you're looking to enter a food coma, these rolls are definitely sharing size. Once we returned to where we were staying the two rolls we bought were devoured as the compliments flew. Being able to buy these was not so easy. Papi's Ohana is an old building with a small, tight, parking lot and no other obvious parking spots nearby. We ended up just being dropped off and while we stood in line one of us took the car somewhere else and drove back once we had our treats. There was a line, fairly long, but the wait wasn't so bad as we anticipated the prize at the end. We were greeted with an Aloha and a smile when we reached the register to place our order. Everything about the cinnamon roll was so so delicious!!! It is so pillowy soft, gooey icing. EXTRA LARGE!!!!! Serving size is enough for two people I also ordered the sausage and cheese croissant which I was pleasantly surprised about because they use a Portuguese sausage so there's a bite to it. The cheese was also gooey. The croissant itself was super buttery and flaky I was in between the ham&cheese or sausage&cheese croissant and I asked the woman working to decide for me. Her attitude was so pleasant. It really makes the experience that much more amazing, especially since it was early in the morning. I do advise you to go early, maybe before they open so you can get the items you want. Once they sell out, they close I did wait about an hour but I do think it's worth it.
