At Stars you get slightly upscale diner atmosphere, better than diner food and prices at the high range of diner prices (slightly higher than say Denny's but so much better) and better than diner service. Decent place for dinner, extensive menu, I recommend sticking with the basics as a menu this large must be difficult to execute. Tonight I went with the ribeye special. The meat was cooked perfectly, well seasoned. The garlic Texas toast was soft and toasty good. The tomatoes in the salad had been either cut to long ago or had been frozen at some point and was breaking down. There was no vegetable included and could have swapped out the starch for broccoli, but that came with a hefty up charge. So I passed. Clean restaurant. This place is great. The food was perfectly cooked, and the service was excellent. I ordered a breakfast burrito-sans meat- and fruit. The burrito was crispy outside and just the right softness inside. The filling was a perfect balance of scrambled eggs, hash browns, and avocado. The creamy avocado slices played off the crispy hash browns. Yum! And it was served with REAL fruit, not some lame mix. My friend and I came here for dessert and I was astounded by how huge my slice of chocolate cake was. I ended up taking half home. The place puts umbrellas in everything. Service was not the greatest. Our original server took our orders and some time later told us her shift was over and that another server was going to help us. Ordered potato skins + a lot of other food from them on door dash. No ranch was put given to us. We hop in our car and drive down to ask about our ranch, lady says you have to chose ranch or sour cream from door dash menu, (we were given neither btw) take her word for it, she stingily gives us one small side of ranch for 8 large potato skins. We leave and go buy a bottle from store adjacent to them. Get home check door dash menu, realize she was full of sh*t. There is no menu to chose ranch or sour cream and any menu I can pull up says it's served with ranch. Foods average, now being cold since our trip to retrieve ranch. Stars has changed a lot over the years. From the girls only wearing skimpy bottoms to different management. The food isn't like amazing but it's always been pretty good. Recently it has gotten better. They increased their prices and the quality has gone up to make up for it! The wait staff and management have always been nice and accomidating. I've always liked the food here, the service is always quick and friendly, it's the staple of a quality diner Today my gf and I ordered through door dash, and door dash took a little extra bit of time to get to the food; it wasn't the worst experience but I have to say that I called the restaurant to check on the order and I talked with Danny, who I confirmed is the General Manager Danny went above and beyond to track my order and communicate with the door dash employee with so much patience and kindness, it can be hard to start your day hungry but when you have someone that goes so much out of their way to accommodate your needs it makes a world of difference. We had been going here well before the pandemic.....was always good, food and service and very affordable. Now it's still great with the service and food but the prices have gone way up.....used to get breakfast for 2 for around 25-30.....now it's like close to 50 +.....and lunch was over 60 !!! After eating at a casual dining chain restaurant the night before (with unappealing food and bad help as a result), I desperately sought a place where the servers were friendlier, the service more personal, and the food was far superior - this is exactly what I received at Stars. The diner was rather quiet that night which I did not mind and actually preferred. I found the location to be calm, the décor to be inviting, unique, and pleasant, the menu to offer a wide variety of enjoyable foods, and the service to be very friendly. I ordered the French Toast Special with bacon and it was prepared perfectly. I enjoyed every last bite (and this is coming from a very picky eater - so trust me when I say that the food was exceedingly tasty). I do not live in the area, but I am glad to know that when I do visit I can rely on a place that provides both great food and service. I would definitely recommend Stars to others. read more

Good as it gets for diner food. The french dip had well seasoned beef and tasty fries. Sounds simple but it's amazing how many people can mess up french dip. Thumbs up to Stars for getting it right. The Apple Pie Overload is big enough to be a meal by itself. Molten caramel over apple pie covered in 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream and what must be a pint of fresh whipped cream. I've never had a bad experience stick in my head for so long. I asked for a recommendation, the manager said "The Pasta is better than Italian Restaurants" and recommended an overpriced Pasta Dish. The Pasta was SUPER overcooked and lacked flavor, they obviously didn't salt the water or the pasta. The portion size was enormous. If you'd like to fill yourself up until you burst at the seams, you might as well buy a $10 bag of dogfood, it will be a lot cheaper and just might taste better. I took my mom here Monday night (8/18/2014) around 8pm. We both had minestrone soup which was good. The mushroom Swiss burger I had wasn't that great, seemed expensive. My mom had open faced roast beef which was ok. But for $31 we could have gone someplace better for the money. What really angered me was how the manager treated us when we went to pay for our meal. My mom asked about the senior discount (she is 78) and he seemed a bit offended. He didn't like when I asked how much it was (10%). He pointed at our receipt "that's for HER part not yours..." Ok, were we offending him by asking about it? Don't get angry at a customer and talk down to them when they ask questions, if there's a problem with a senior discount then don't offer one. Also, I was really upset that he was talking to my mom like she was a stupid idiot. This is unacceptable. He was impatient waiting for her to give him the right amount of change due. I won't be going back there with my mom again. We've been regular customers but don't plan to be anymore. I'd rather go somewhere where older patrons are treated with more respect. read more

Went to Stars with some family members. The staff was actually pretty nice and was communicating with everyone waiting to be seated (we were there on a Sunday, after church time). After we were seated it took the waitress awhile to take out order, when she did she asked everyone else at the table what they wanted to drink but ignored me...thanks... Our food took awhile, but again it was during a busy time and many guests were starting to leave anyway. I noticed my family members were low on their coffee, the waitress NEVER refilled their drinks and she NEVER came up to our table until delivering the food...the thing is that we saw her attending to other tables but just didn't come up to us. This place was so good that we actually went out of our way to eat here 3 times on our trip to/from LLW! Stopped here for lunch with friends just to waste time, as we got up to Ukiah a bit early and, well, the folks at LLW werent gonna feed us until dinner anyway. Stopped here blindly because it was called a "family" restaurant (LOL), translate to "diner" food... and well, kill me; we love diner food. Anyway, wasnt expecting much more than basic food choices from a "greasy spoon" sort of place. We were greeted immediately by a cute, young hostess, sat right away and had our waitress introduced to us. Nice touch. Actually, everything about the place is a nice touch. Right down to the silly little crepe paper fruit decorations on the top of the toothpicks they put through the sandwiches and the little toothpick umbrellas they stick in the fruit that's bobbing out of the iced tea. Yeah, they are serious about their toothpicks here. But it's very cute. In 3 visits, havent found a bad item yet. and their fruit salad... OMG. It's actual FRUIT! not just some little chopped up pieces of pectin tossed by the wayside, but honest to goodness (oh, so good) whole fruit wedges (not just little pieces or chunks) of melon, apple, orange... total yum! I went to STARS today for lunch with my wife. We got a table quickly, even though it was busy. I ordered a corned beef sandwich. When it got there it looked a little dry. The corned beef was like leather. I almost choked to death trying to eat it. I think it was sitting under a heat lamp for hours. I don't even know if it was cooked that day. I complained to the manager. They assured me they cooked it fresh, even though it was clearly dry as the Sahara desert. Another manager came over and repeated that everyone loved the corned beef and it was a local favorite. I told him it was disgusting. He said something about having to keep the temperature at a certain point. I felt like I was being lectured. All restaurants have to deal with the same thing. They gave me five bucks off. I was born and raised in this town. I would avoid this place. The food is over priced and the management is pretentious as hell. If you want to choke to death on old corned beef while getting a lecture on food preparation, go ahead. I would suggest the Denny's next door. The service is better and the food is about the same. I must say that I am so very happy to have finally eaten at this place. I've been living in Ukiah for over two years and always defaulted to Applebee's. After messing up my order twice in a row, I decided it was time to branch out. I'd heard about Stars from a few elderly people while waiting for a light at a crosswalk and decided to try it out. In my opinon, you can judge a diner by its burgers and Stars nailed it. The meat was not greasy at all, perfectly cooked, and actually tasted like meat. The bun was fresh and proportionate to the patty. The fries were on point. Service was awesome. Even the manager took the time to talk to us. Their Sierra Mist didn't even taste like tap water, like at most places. I am thoroughly pleased with Stars and it is now my go-to place. read more

Well long story short, we were on a road trip for my birthday and on the way back home we were going to eat at Olive Garden for my birthday dinner... but our rental car breaks down 2 hours away from the restaurant, so we had to find a place to eat close by which was this place. I was disappointed at first because I really wanted Olive Garden but once I got my food it smelled so good I couldn't stop eating it. I ordered their breakfast burrito and caesar salad. I'm sad that we don't live close enough so I can eat at this restaurant more often. It would be nice to try more things on their menu.
