The lady from parts department transferred me to another department(also a lady answered) for a simple question as to whether they carry model Subarus, because sometimes you can find them at subaru service locations... This lady goes "well, have you tried at a toy store? Well, we have REAL SUBARUS, oooookkk? BYE!" And then she hangs up on me. Wtf was that? First of all, no sh*t you carry real Subarus. Was wary of Star due to it's reputation in Queens and poor reviews but during today's visit, I had a chance to speak with Phil, their new GM, and it appears the dealership is in great hands. Believe in the past, they struggled with providing cars for test drive but Phil quickly fixed that upon his arrival. Look forward to seeing the changes Phil has in store for Star Subaru. I first spoke with Christine Mangione via email and agreed on a deal before coming in person. When I arrived, she came down and greeted me in person and connected me with Jackson Yuen, the sales consultant. That was a nice touch. Great service! The entire transaction went fairly well, a little longer than I would have liked but that was partly due to how thorough Jackson was in explaining the terms, the vehicle and etc. FYI - for Cantonese speakers, Star is a great option. The only downside is the location of Star's lot in Long Island. I had to wait an hour for the car to be delivered to the dealership. Not a big deal - walked around and got a coffee. Shouldn't be a problem if you are ordering ahead, as well. I prefer to take cars off the lot, unfortunately. Overall, great experience. Star doesn't have all the frills of larger dealerships in the suburbs like snacks, coffee machine, play area and etc...but if you want a great straight forward deal - give Star a try. read more

I purchased a Forester in 2017 and everything went smoothly. Two years later (a few months ago), the owner of Star Subaru, Mike, sent a private investigator to my house without any heads-up. The man was extremely aggressive and wanted to ask me about a cash downpayment that I made to purchase the car. He did not properly identify himself, did not contact me beforehand, and ran away when the police showed up. After I asked around, I found out that Star Subaru sent this man to my house as their former employees stole money from the company. Mike called me, NEVER apologized and insisted on running his mouth to tell me why he did what he did. I never received any apologies from the investigator. Overall, Subaru, the car brand, is great, but Star Subaru, the dealer and the owner, is horrendous. Save yourself the headache and go buy your Subaru somewhere else. I was wary at first given the numerous negative reviews, but the experience I had yesterday was very pleasant. Prior to arriving, I have spoken to Laurie and Diane on the phone and they were very friendly. Once My wife and I were there, the sales person Jimmy Zeng was very accommodative and not pushy. He was very pleasant to deal with and he made sure that my wife and I would walk out of there happy with our purchase. The manager who was in charge of the extended warranty was very pleasant as well. Given that I just bought the car, I don't have any experience with its repair shop. I will update this review once I take my car in for maintenance/repair. By the way, I'm loving my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. read more

I just moved to the Douglaston area and a long time supporter of Subaru and wanted to purchase a new car. I was able to find one so close to me yet I must have called at the wrong time because the young woman I spoke with was so unprofessional and nasty to me, she even hung up the phone on me. as I tried to call back twice she would pick up and leave me on hold. I called back a 3rd time and a much nicer professional woman picked up and she directed me to the manager which surprisingly had the same exact voice as the woman that hung up the phone. I asked was it her I spoke with and hung up on me and she stated it wasn't her but verified that that was a lie because instead of apolo on behalf of her staff she rudely asked if "are you even coming in today?" i will now take my business elsewhere and I would highly recommend no one visit this place. Updating my review because Star seems adamant that I shouldn't have test drove a car I was intent on buying. This is a shame for the automotive industry. The response is the same as what I was told in the dealership. I was ready to buy the car but only an idiot would buy a car without test driving. I love cars. I've worked in the industry and I've been driving and working on cars since I was a kid. This is where passion dies. Failure to allow people an experience that puts them in a car. Terrible experience with the service center. I brought my car in after making an appointment for a factory recall. I was under the impression that the work would take about an hour, but Thomas the manager let me know it would take around four because they're doing the work by hand, not by machine. Fine Before stepping away from the desk, I confirmed that the work would take four hours. Thomas looked hesitant, so I added in, "it maybe around four and a half?" He seemed more content, confirmed, and said he would call me when it was done. Fine Four and half hours later, I give them a call. After being told by the hold machine about trivia tidbits on the last queen of France and on how Canada had parts of it that were located south of parts of the USA, Thomas told me that the work would be done by 4:30, which would be six and a half hours from when I dropped it off. No apology, no explanation. I asked that my car be prepped for me to pick it up, that I was going to take my car to another Subaru dealer for service. The next day, I noticed a significant clanging sound while driving my car. I planned to go another shop, and when I checked for my whee lock key, it was missing. I called to check if maybe it was used to do checks on my car and maybe if it was misplaced and found. The same guy, Thomas, said they didn't touch the tires and so they wouldn't have had to use the key. Quite the mystery after such poor service and a negative interaction. read more

Reviewing for my sister: she brought her car in because Subaru notified her of a recall. Dealer did whatever they needed to , but told her she also needed to replace certain parts including her battery. Sis said to give her an estimate and she would think about it. She got the estimate and after a while she got her car back and drove home. The car was running when they returned the car to her. The next day when she tried to start the car, it wouldn't for a while. Eventually she got it started. When she brought it to her mechanic, he pointed out some corrosion marks on the battery. Sis is 100 percent sure they weren't there when she brought the car to the dealer. And the mechanic never mentioned anything about the battery corroding just a few two weeks earlier when he checked out the car for routine maintenance. Very, very strange. Sis will never use these guys again. read more

Was so excited to purchase my first car and went in knowing exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I dn know about was window tints. I asked to have windows tinted in the car and definitely not dark. I was not given the option of looking at a chart, given a scale, provided any info. as to how light-dark measure. After about a month of driving car, I was pulled over by cop and given a ticket for having too dark of a tint. He stated he was going easy by fining me for only 2. Usually would be for all. Long story short, manager stated I would have to pay to have them removed. They use 3rd party vendor to put tints on and have no control over what they do. Nor is there a scale they give customers to view. However, after complaining to corporate office, was told they would take off tint at no charge, but would have to repay to put on lighter ones. Extremely deceitful practices at this place. Be very leery when dealing with them!!!! read more

Horrible service dept. Bought wifes car in for takata airbag recall, Had minor repairs done to the tune of $1036.00. Steering column had no issue when car was bought in. Wife drives and said extremly bad vibration and screeching. Car "supposedly" went through MULTI POINT INSPECTION. No mention of problem when car was picked up. Bought car back they charged me another $239.00 for drive belts. Thats absolutely wrong, if car went through again I say MULTI POINT INSPECTION, why was this not bought to my attention. Reached out to get a quote on a 2020 Ascent Touring and received an email from Sonia with a, what she called an "very aggressive" quote. It was very aggressive but when I went in to meet with her and make the "deal", it was a BIG joke...."sorry that was for the limited edition". But I had a very clear email exchange with Sonia and she clearly said, in writing, it was for a 2020 Ascent Touring. Couldn't come through on her deal. Classic bait and switch...WOULD NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH STAR SUBARU. Wish I read the other reviews before I went in. Just can't believe they would put it in writing and then back out. Worst experience ever. Bought my car from this place and then bought the service contract (don't bother paying the money for that btw) and was promised I would get a loaner car when I had service work done there as well- now clearly a lie to get you to buy the service contract as they have yet to come through. But my biggest beef is with the service center that knocked a bunch of wiring loose in my dashboard when they replaced a recalled passenger airbag on my Subaru forester. Now I have to go back to this hell hole and they refuse to believe they might be responsible- except all dashboard warning lights flash on together and stay on until I hit a bump and they all go off along with my lighter plug no longer working- clearly loose wires and has been corroborated by my local mechanic so I didn't waste my time going there for nothing. Staff has been rude, unprofessional and lying regarding the managers availability for a simple phone call to attempt to get a loaner. They also tried to scam me about work needing to be done at the last check up saying a bunch of lights were out (I checked later since I decided not to do the work there) which were perfectly fine and functional. The manager has just returned my phone call and agreed to the loaner because he saw my other review left on a dealership site. They lied, would not disclose the cost of LoJack, lied about my credit score so they could manipulate me to buy overpriced LoJack installation that I did not need. Or at least that's what he told us when we asked if and when we could make an appointment to come back for a test drive. We never asked about driving one of the showroom cars. If you "know how great your product is" you should have cars for test drives. My question still stands: how do you expect people to buy a car without driving it. There is no receptionist and they will bait and switch the Internet price vs the managers and salesman out the door price. Star did not go below the invoice price of the car with accessories. Picked up a 2014 Impreza Premium with services sold by the financial manager such as "free oil change" for every schedule service which cost $50 bucks per visit and a 2015 Forester Limited at invoice with a three month lead time. Was in the market for a 2015 XV crosstrek limited and star wanted $400 bucks above invoice with accessories. We walked out and decided to go to Has It Subaru where they ordered the car for $400 below invoice with accessories but it was just a hassle to drive 30 miles out to the island but none the less Has It did Have the Right Price so they do Have It. read more

What a hole in the wall, tiny, awful dealership with less than friendly workers. My husband and I walked in to look at some cars the other night. My hubby went to use the restroom and I started looking around. I walked past a group of about 3 dealers to get to a cad, but none of them so much as said hi or greeted me, a potential customer even though they all saw us walk in. When my husband walked out of the restroom, that's when they said hi, asked if we needed help, what we were interested in, etc. Ummmm, why? Because he's a guy? The man helping couldn't really answer our questions about the car without referring to the sticker on the car and kept repeating that the car "comes in leather". This was the 1st dealership we walked into and were glad we did. We sat down with Mario who was straightforward and answered all our questions with no pressure at all. He brought us to Mike D. who gave us a great deal on leasing an Impreza and set it up that the specific car we wanted would be available on the day we would come back. we shopped around and mike gave us the best deal by FAR. When we showed up again, we looked at the car, Mike did some magic with the numbers and we were out of there pretty quickly. The establishment itself is decent- clean space, nice valet parking, polite staff. What's worth 2 stars was the experience I had with one of the sales rep- Paul. From the beginning to the end of our discussion, he appeared disinterested and distracted. I had a few questions to ask about my intended purchase, and he kept responding "I don't know." He pretty much just sat there in silence the whole time while I was trying to get some info about the car and the accessories. Now I went out for a test drive as well, and the entire time while we were in the car, he was busy texting on his phone; looking completely bored and unconcerned. I am not sure if he's a car sales actually- there was no attempt to sell any cars or packages. I made an offer and he just declined it outright which is completely expected, but he didn't even bother counter-offering and continue to stare in space while sitting in his office chair tucked in a corner. The experience was mind boggling. I heard great things about the other car sales and in fact they have a board in the back room indicating the no of sales each person has made. Worst service experience ever. Brought my 13 wrx in for service and they said I needed a new axel. At first they said they would warranty it. And when I brought it in, they said they wouldn't replace it because I have an aftermarket clutch and the axel was damaged during the installation. Funny thing is, I had my aftermarket clutch installed about 3 months back but I had an issue with my axel for over a year ago before replaced the clutch. There is no proof that it was damaged during an aftermarket clutch installation job nor during my throw out bearing replacement job at a different dealer. Now I need to pay for an axel that should have been covered if I came in before I did my clutch and they also slap me the bill for removing the axel they said they were going to replace. Never buying a subaru again and deal with such bullshit. read more

And I didn't get pay off , didn't get my plates. 3 weeks !!!!!! I called couple times they said nothing to be worried it was all set. Made an Appointment with the Service Department for 1pm on 12/29/17. The battery isn't holding past 10V when not running. Since this is a lease and has under 20k on the vehicle it is "Most likely under warranty" as per the customer service # listed on Subaru's main website. It is a leased vehicle. Upon arrival (I was 15 minutes early) the gentleman at the desk looks at me and says it will be at least 3 hours. I ask why it would take so long especially if I made an appt. He says "I don't have enough Techs." I had my 2 year old daughter in tow since my wife had to work and its her car. I pressed him a bit and he changes his timeline to 1 1/2 to 2 hours before the car is even looked at. I again asked why didn't he call me or my wife and notify us that they were so backed up.it is also a 20 mile trip to get to this location. ( We would have rescheduled) He just gave me the blank stare. I left at this point. My problem is this besides the obvious that I had an appointment. It is apparent that this "Service" Department or in fact the entire location does not care about YOUR time. The whole basis of an Appt. system is so that customers can be serviced in a timely manner. I was prepared to stay 1-2 hours if need be. But that is finished time. Not "we won't get to it for 1/2 to 2 hours time. Can you imagine if you told your business partners/customers that 1pm actually means 4pm. With no prior notice? I wouldn't be in business if thats how I operated. Subaru actually tried to sell us a "upgrade" for scheduled maintenance when we leased the car. What a joke...pay for this and get treated like that by the dealership. Thank goodness we didn't fall for it. Hopefully neither will anyone else who reads this. The other issue is why do you not have enough techs? Being short staffed is not the customers issue but the business. I understand things happen but once again the failure to communicate has caused this customer to seriously consider not to lease or even buy another Subaru even though I do really like the car. They could have easily called us and we would have understood and rescheduled. This is a direct reflection on Mgt. and their lack of service training or forward thinking. Im sure most people would not be happy about a 2-3 hour wait especially if your life involves a young child. If they had offered to keep the car and sent me home in a loaner or even Ubered me home we would have done it. But it is obvious this is how they do things and are not prepared or trained to handle an unforeseen circumstance like being "Short Staffed" I am just happy that when we actually leased this car we didn't do it through them we actually went to Subaru of Stanford in CT. I brought my 2010 Subaru in for a recall, since the inspection was expiring I had them do inspection as well. Was told when I brought in Pass or Fall $37, Thats normal. and besides Ive never failed an inspection before.... Well Got a call a few hrs later I FAILD! I was told over the phone when asked... Wipers, 3 bulbs were out and Tires... I told them to just do the recall, Ill take it to my own mechanic. I was having NO ISSUES with my wipers before I brought it in... After I picked up car I of course looked at everything....My Driver side windshield wiper had a nice clean cut in it. So off to my mechanic who I trust and have been using for over 25 years. He informed me my tires were not fail worthy, and there was a nice clean new CUT IN MY AXEL. So theres that.....I have no Proof that Subaru did anything..... But something to think about. .... read more

Mario is fantastic and was very transparent with us! We wanted a Crosstrek but wasn't interested in orange ones on the lot nor did care for the new 2019 models. We were able to view the different cars on the lot and he was very informative about the models! He went above and beyond and even my parents were very impressed by his polite demeanor and professionalism. Around noon on Friday 6/9, my wife and I stopped in to compare 2 vehicles we were possibly interested in. We had done all the research we could online and wanted to see the cars in person. While I understand the condition of the showroom due to "renovations", I couldn't believe how tiny and cramped the place is. We were looking to see an Impreza 5 door and a Crosstrek. There were people in and around the only Crosstrek in the showroom so we started with the Impreza 5 door. We spent 5-10 mins looking through it and wanted to move on to the Crosstrek. The same people were still in and around it. As we stood there waiting a salesman Jerry approached us to ask if we needed help. We expressed our interest in looking at the Crosstrek to compare the Impreza. Jerry informed us that the Crosstrek (the ONLY one there) was being delivered to the customers that were in it. How does a dealership have only 1 of each model in a showroom? Why would a dealership have a car in the showroom that is being delivered (especially since it wasn't one from your inventory but one that was ordered as we were told by Jerry)? Jerry informed us that you keep your other cars in "storage". Then he said let me see if we have one "outside". He walked about 5 feet away, stood there for a minute and walked back to say the Crosstrek comes in different models. We told Jerry that we were going to go somewhere else where we could actually see and drive the vehicle. He said "Ok". Some sales team you've got there. "Ok" is the response to a potential sale walking out the door. After leaving, we drove straight down Northern Blvd to East Hills Subaru. Within 2 1/2 hours of leaving your poor excuse for a dealership, we looked at numerous Crosstreks in different trim levels. We were given a full description of all the features available in each one. We each took a lengthy test drive in a Crosstrek (something that's available by appointment only at your place). By the end of our visit we purchased a 2017 Crosstrek premium that we'll be picking up next week. That is what your dealership and salesman allowed to walk out the door without much of a fight. I have never been to a dealership that is so unprepared to deal with potential buyers both by the stock on hand in the showroom and the lackadaisical approach of your salesman. Maybe that is what is in more need of renovation. read more

Came here looking to get a 2019 ascent because the 2020 came out and they have like 10 of these left over. Sat down explained my situation and guess what, they didn't even make an attempt. First off they gave me a price of a 2019 as if it was a 2020. They did absolutely nothing. Now I'm not expecting it to be so much more cheaper but why pay 40 on a 2019 when I can pay 40 on a 2020?! Common sense. I purchased many new cars in the past and the few times I purchased a left over model they took around 2k off or so depending on the dealer of course. This place didn't do anything. Not only that but they just kept telling me get a better down payment get a better down payment get a better down payment. We can't help you unless you get a better down payment. Eventually I left because I know when someone can do something and just doesn't want to. I went over to Koepel Subaru got myself a 2020 ascent and get this not only did they knock off a few grand off the sticker price on a brand new 2020 but they got me the deal within minutes with a great apr with no down payment. Goes to show what this place could have done but chose not to. Trust me drive over to another dealer. This place isn't doing you any favors and if you think they are, go do your homework before signing. read more
