Orange chicken and teriyaki chicken
Liz L.

Why won't anyone post pictures of their food?! I was debating on whether or not to come here for lunch but found no pictures of what their food looks like on yelp, so I decided to be the genie pig. This location is literally at the curb where you drop off passengers to the train. It says it's for drop-off but according to the ladies at Starwok, they are very lenient about it. Upon entering I saw a few trays near emptied. I ordered orange chicken and teriyaki with the lady at the counter and she told me that it will just be a few minutes for the fresh batch so I waited. I got my food about 3 minutes later. I'm glad that I waited because it came out piping hot and the orange chicken was CRUNCHY, W00T!! The sauce was a little on the sour side (like a tarty orange taste) rather if that is your thing. The teriyaki chicken tasted more like stir fry chicken. I consider that a good thing since it's not drenched in a blackhole of sweetness. My only complain would be that the food is a bit oily, but I mean, it's Chinese food! I will come back for sure, maybe tomorrow even...

+ Chinese food takeout is available + One of few places open early at train station + Friendly owner + Outside seating -/+ Prices are a little high I walk by this place every weekday at the Irvine Metrolink/Amtrak train station. Fortunately it is one of the only places open early (6am sometimes) mornings. You can pick up some tea/coffee/breakfast here if you skipped it at home. The owner also works at Donut Star on Irvine Blvd on other days as well as I've seen her there. Very friendly. Prices are a tiny bit high, but nothing crazy. I've noticed the muffins are from Costco (since I buy them too haha). Based on other reviews, this place also has Chinese takeout afterwards. I don't think I would ever be in a spot to come here for actual food, but I'm glad there's the option. There are a lot of businesses close by and it is the perfect area. There is also plenty of outside seating. I've noticed the hours of operations isn't always adhered to strictly. The first year or two I came by, it would be closed at 6:00am. Now sometimes it is open. I try to save money by not buying breakfast here, but sometimes when I'm in a bind, and it is closed, I have to go hungry for a few hours for my train ride to LA.

a plate of noodles and vegetables

Yummy, affordable and so friendly. I couldn't help it I ate the "side" of bbq chicken on my way home not pictured.

The food here is not good at all. If you're really hungry you eat anything. But once I found this metal object in my food.

Simple, quick, and reasonably priced. Good food for grabbing a bite at the station and also had some snack selections to buy for the trip.

When I searched on Google for ice cream near me- chocolate shoppe ice cream popped up then upon looking further I realized it was sold within duck donuts. Still ventured to try it Two guys working, one said he was new, and didn't know where all the flavors were / allowed us to try some b4 we ordered but was a pain bc the flavors were spread between two freezers in front of store and whatever was in the back. Placed an order for 3 double scoop cups (all they had) and took a really long time to make them having to figure out where the flavors were between the front and back of store. Then. They didn't have lids to cover them or a bag to put them in - so we literally covered each cup with another cup and put in a box I had from Costco in my trunk to get them home without dripping everywhere in my car. And I say dripping everywhere bc by the time he finished the last cup/. The others were melted from taking so long. They should probably just stick to donuts if they can't fully support the ice cream products. If I knew now/ I wouldn't have chosen to try there for ice cream. Very unfortunate, bc we probably would have loved the ice cream - but the experience clearly trumped the product.

Upon retrieving my order, I discovered that my ham and cheese croissant was not fully cooked. I even saw the lady cook both of them together, not separately. The mayonnaise and cheese were cold in the center, which was quite unpleasant and disappointing. Mags Donuts, a well-established establishment in Irvine, has maintained high standards for a considerable period. However, I believe it is imperative to conduct regular inspections by health authorities to ensure compliance with hygiene regulations. Recently, I observed a fly inside the donut and bagel cases, which is a clear indication of inadequate sanitation practices. The environment was slow. There wasn't that many people inside. The ladies are amazing and sweet but they do not know English as good!! There is a massive language barrier but I have to give it to them. They are good with recovering. They gave me another food item as complimentary after mentioning how upset I felt besides that, poor experience. Service is what matters now in the world and without good service how will a business become successful now? I should've taken my business elsewhere where but I'm glad I got to experience this for the last time hopefully Thank you! Best of luck. I was not aware there was a different business owner. I had thought the business owner were the ladies and gentleman making the donuts. Maybe it's time to switch up the team for better results..

It was 10 min before closing & idk if the girls were just rushing to close down but one girl in particular had an attitude. There was a miscommunication / misunderstanding with the girl who took my coffee order (I had assumed the seasonal banana latte came with the foam as pictured & because she didn't ask if I wanted the foam, I didn't ask for it more-so bc she asked if I wanted the brittle on top). When they handed me my drink it was a plain banana latte with no foam or brittle. I was ignored when I tried calling for the barista until another girl followed up - however this girl had an attitude. She told me that I must not have ordered it since they ask at the register if I want foam with brittle. Explained they didn't ask. Instead she just said "sorry I'll let them know for next time". And walked away leaving me with my drink as is. Didn't offer any sort of resolution. I walked in and asked they could charge me extra for the foam. The same girl with the attitude remade my drink and handed it to me. No thank you, no sorry, nothing. First time experiencing this kind of service. Not sure if the girl is new but saw someone else share a similar experience couple days ago. Wish I would have asked for her name!

The orange flavor was phenomenal and I have no notes. We also got the strawberry donut and hot chocolate with almond milk, both obviously very good as well. It was my first time getting the hot chocolate and I was honestly surprised with how yummy it was. It was not too chocolatey and not too milky. It was the perfect balance and the perfect pairing with the donuts.

I love everything else about…read moreCream Pan, but honestly, the line to select your pastry and the checkout is so UN-USER-FRIENDLY. The self service, pre-made lunch bentos, sandos and sushi area is fine, but once you need assistance from a worker, it starts getting ridic. How so? You speak to whomever is attempting to assist you OVER and UNDER a twenty-four year old counter area that holds the pastries and/or through a tiny hole in the cabinets. You can hardly make eye contact with the person, because all the pastry is in between where you are standing and where they are standing. Some people are tall, some short, but regardless, there is NO WAY to have a conversation with them. They are trying to see what exactly you are possibly pointing to in the case, but as noted, you're talking thru a case of pastry. This is also true at the Fountain Valley location, where they only have a very small counter to check out with many people standing in line trying to have someone collect their order from the back. Maybe also ask WHY there is never any KINAKO donuts? I was there at 11 am and I got THE LAST ONE! If these are so popular, why don't you make enough to sell throughout the day? Every other time I've been here, you were already SOLD OUT! SMH HAS ANYONE HERE SEEN THE SELF SERVICE process at 85 degrees? All their pastry is individually wrapped and you calmly walk through the SELF SERVICE pastry area with a tray and tongs to help yourself. If you'd like to pass the person in front of you, it's easy and doable because there is plenty of room and it doesn't make anyone feel like you are taking "cuts". Once you get to the end, the cashier totals up your tray and puts it in a bag or box for you. Done & Done. Let me reiterate that your pastry and food are all above par and I know you've been in business since 2002 and let me commend you for 24 years of service, but it's time to CHANGE IT UP to a more user friendly process. It's not appealing to anyone in this busy day and age that there is a line out the door, ONLY BECAUSE THE PROCESS INSIDE NEEDS HELP! It's also more sanitary that the pastry and breads are wrapped ahead of time as I saw a fly inside the case today. Ugh.
